@AstroTheGamosian That was a very well-written insight. Showing that you're still very much a Nintendo fan, but acknowledging that it'd be great to see Nintendo try a more simple route in regard to game development once without relying on a specific console's strength.
I enjoyed that read. Though I do still enjoy a lot of things about those "misses" you mentioned, I understand where they could've excelled more. Amidst them, though, the Wii U was the greatest of ideas and I am sad it was never fully realized. GameCube being a close second.
@AstroTheGamosian Meanwhile, me sitting in the corner over Kirby GameCube being announced at E3 2005, confirmed for a late-2005 release date and then being pulled because they could not find a gimmick with co-op, lmao.
I am well aware Harvest Moon 64 is the black sheep of the golden era games. Many people think Back to Nature is its replacement, but that is not true at all and Harvest Moon 64 strongly stands as its own title in the franchise. Hell, Back to Nature was supposed to just be a port of 64 to PSX, but I digress.
Licensing would not be an issue since that would have meant Harvest Moon 64 would not have saw release on the Wii U Virtual Console in 2017, three years after Natsume split with Marvelous. And if it was a present issue now, then Harvest Moon 64 would have to be delisted on the Wii U first for that argument to make sense, such as was the case with the Donkey Kong Country games disappearing for a little while from Virtual Console.
This is simply the case of Nintendo most likely summarizing that the west does not care about Harvest Moon all that much and Story of Seasons' lack of sales is most likely to blame for that. In Japan, the franchise still sells modestly well, but has failed to keep up those numbers overseas. As such, they were already thinking this way as early as us losing the first Harvest Moon on the Super Nintendo, which Japan has on their SNES emulator.
Finally, in regard to people talking about localization, the game was originally in English already. It literally came out ten months after the Japanese version. Only PAL regions lacked Harvest Moon 64 until the Wii U in 2017. It really is as easy as them just putting in the English ROM for us, but they will not do it. I genuinely have no idea why when the work has already been done. And it is not like these games are on individual sale, so they do not have to worry about it "not selling" when these games simply come with the subscription that is already overpriced to begin with and thus, has much more room for games.
And I say that with the Super Nintendo game as well, though I will admit Intuitive Ranch Master is the much better method to play that one. Preferably with the Infinite Night version so that the game is properly beatable. That aside, I am baffled that one missed the release window overseas as well.
I would personally love both of those games, especially Harvest Moon 64, to make it onto the Switch. They are easily amidst the best in the franchise and it will be a shame if newer generations of people miss out on them since the Wii U was too forgotten for that release to count as a return besides the happy PAL gamers who got to experience it for the first time that way.
@HotGoomba "Come on Nintendo, just add GameCube and N64 game services at a higher yearly price!"
@Muddy_4_Ever "Those games can get 'remastered' editions that sell for $20 or more. The "included with subscription" games will be NES/SNES bottom feeders."
I disagree with both of these. Nintendo should just do this:
Add a new button to the emulators that looks like a shopping icon.
Give the emulators offline usage, but still lock online multiplayer to the service as intended of course.
Allow players to add games from developers that do not want to opt into the subscription part.
And any games in your menu that you decided not to buy independently will be grayed out, perhaps even just not on the menu at all to keep it clean. And any new games you add onto the service from developers who preferred their games to be bought individually get added with the "NEW" icon showing up as usual. And the offline usage of the emulator allows you to play your purchased titles regardless of being subscribed, just not with netplay.
Too expensive? Artificial scarcity? Can't the haters just leave these comment sections already? It's starting to get annoying reading dumb crap like this. The controllers are fine for their price. And they're loaded with hours of battery life. Only real bad thing about them is not having a home and screen capture button. They're fine and at least they're not being forced into a bundle like the NES controllers.
Got real excited, then immediately disappointed. I only associate this game as "Harvest Moon: Friends of Mineral Town" so I won't call it anything else. But, I am letdown the remaster is very low effort. And also, that Harvest Moon 64 was not the chosen one to be remastered. I always did prefer that one over Back to Nature.
If this is cheap and at least has the same gameplay, remastered soundtrack and story, as well as running at 60fps (I see no reason why this should not be able to, but 30fps would be real sad when you consider how bad this looks for a console game), then I will consider it because the original Friends of Mineral Town is very memorable to me and I still have fond memories of playing and loving the atmosphere.
I would much rather the Switch gets the original Friends of Mineral Town, as well as Harvest Moon 64, than remasters if they are going to look like this. Even Magical Melody looks better than this.
Alright, we got all of the classics. Except Goemon! Come on, let's bring him back! Or at least a rerelease of his localized games. Possibly, even localizing the remaining SNES games and DS one.
Natsume really should consider adding ConcernedApe to their development team. The creator of Stardew Valley could do so much by simply having the Harvest Moon brand name. Story of Seasons doesn't feel like the original to me anymore either, very standard gameplay and most of the charm is gone. But, I'd like to believe ConcernedApe could bring it back.
@ItsOKToBeOK I agree and disagree on ARMS. Should be worth thirty bucks or less, but the motion controls are what made it really fun. Nintendo is usually the best at utilizing them (Smooth Moves on Wii made excellent use of the Wiimote), Twilight Princess aside, and I've seen some cool plays with people using the curved punches for some great strategies. I believe motion controls always have a place in gaming as long as you're programming them correctly. And not just so you waggle it and something happens. Another prime, non-Nintendo example is VA-11 HALL-A on Switch. It's really fun to literally mix the drinks yourself and makes it feel a bit more special than the other versions.
@ShaiHulud You do realize Gyro Aiming is the best use of motion controls, right? Why are you phrasing this as though we're still in the waggle phase from 2006? Stop spreading stuff that will make people compare the Joy-Con technology to the much older Wiimote.
NO WAY. I have such a huge collection of these games. I never would've thought they'd make it to Switch. I have a lot of faith in Cotton 2 and Boomerang showing up if this one is going to be on the eShop. I love these games and having a more convenient way to play them at home beyond their console of origin will be amazing. I will pre-order every single one of these.
I always preferred the more cheerful and tan Mario from the N64 era. I'm sad he got so angry, GameCube era onward. Maybe the anger on the anti-piracy site is where it began.
I want SNES games, but not for the same reasons everyone else does. If I want to play them, I can do that right now on the ones I have. I want them on Switch because they will have netplay and also the fact the datamine had them briefly. I just want to know why Nintendo has been waiting around so long with them.
N64 games would be amazing, especially if they have netplay as well. The Wii U N64 emulator can already do amazing things, so a Switch one would be messed around with for so many months. I wouldn't even care if they were separated from the service and made available for individual purchase. Just as long as they retain netplay.
That's the best incentive toward why I even played the NES games to begin with. SMB3 online with my buddy was very fun and I don't regret playing it that way, especially the comical gestures you can do during the game. The menus being accessible at all times is also great, as well as them being able to watch you navigate them. I expect the SNES and N64 emulators to have the same functionality then, since the Wii U pretty much had the same interface across the board with its emulators, PC Engine aside.
Though, I hope they have control options as well. I hate that you can't remap the inputs on the NES emulator. It makes the GameCube controller unusable due to the position of the buttons.
@bluemage1989 Oh wow. Come to think of it, if you're not a big cartoon fan, you should really stay away from video games, especially the majority made from 1980-2001.
The 3DS has a huge backlog. Honestly, I don't think it's possible for anyone to look at the entire library of games and go "I want more" for it. I highly doubt you could dislike every current game that has been released on the system in the past eight years. Thus, I believe it's perfectly fine for the 3DS to come to an end.
For now, the Switch needs all of Nintendo's development behind it. It has had a lot of amazing games come to it the past couple of years, but the 3DS still has tons of amazing games as well. It has had a full life and, despite how well the DS sold, it did end in eight years as well, beyond some third-party releases in 2013, similar to how the 3DS will be getting some in 2020.
It is not the end of your fun. Chances are, Nintendo will support the 3DS servers for many more years, but shutdown Wii U servers long before those ones do. Nintendo knows the user base is still there, and just released a new revision not too long ago, so there is no way it is going to shutdown its servers for at least another half of a decade or longer.
So, enjoy your huge backlog, 3DS fans, and let the Switch finally get full development. It needs it due to how much more detailed the games are.
@MarioBrickLayer I wouldn't get your hopes up that high. Remember that Nintendo themselves developed those two games you mentioned, and we've established that Nintendo games, under their own development without any second-party studios, are always of premium quality. Maybe they will have the Nintendo EPD assist with Metroid Prime 4 though, who knows. I feel like Yoshio Sakamoto needs to as well if they don't have anymore veteran staff.
Would prefer Chronicles. If it does not end up on Switch, however, then eSports. Do not play the 3DS anymore, so have no incentive to buy a localized Chronicles unless the game itself is up and running properly on Citra.
3 - Varies on me. Maybe they will add SNES and N64, and if those have online multiplayer, I have high hopes for that part of the service.
4 - Well, it's also one of their most popular franchises and the other games aren't ready to be shown yet.
5 - Yeah.
6 - Yeah.
7 - Thirty bucks per controller (if you think optimistically of the bundle) isn't too bad when you think about it. Sucks they don't work with any other games, though. They even have shoulder buttons, so I don't see why not with, say, Shovel Knight or Shantae.
8 - Based on their current infrastructure, it's understandable, but they need to update that system to add backups of multiplayer-esque games like Splatoon 2, so that users keep their data and the cheaters are gone too. Based on how it is, I'd prefer no cheaters over backups, but they really need server-sided saves so that Splatoon 2 players can come back to their data and the hackers are gone.
9 - They're putting effort into the next one is why they didn't mention it this year. It's still coming out by next year, most likely, if it was announced over a year ago. And it's also an adequate doing it, so they won't screw us over as badly as certain other companies do that announce things way too early.
10 - The Switch is too weak to handle the main game, so that's also understandable. Sucks it's only viable in Japan, but I'd say that's more our fault for not having adequate enough internet to support the idea yet. And it was never released outside Japan anyway, so I don't see why this bothers you.
@Octane This is sickening to me. So many of the animations in both Stadium games are miles better than Let's Go, both of which are, more or less, spin-off games.
Hell, Stadium has better animations than the main series games.
I can understand people hating on the services and hardware, but it's pretty dumb to say "typical Nintendo" over one of their games. They're usually not "miss" unless it's any of the ones they put on Wii U besides Sm4sh and Splatoon.
Also, Nd Cude developed this, not Hudson. They're a division of Nintendo known for putting out mediocre games as it is. Don't blame the normal Nintendo developers for this. If they worked on it, the game may have been a lot better. Or Hudson.
Perhaps, Konami should develop the next Mario Party. Nearly all of Hudson went over to them anyway.
Only above average games they made were Maximum Velocity and Pocket Camp. I believe they were originally made to be the backup developers for whenever Nintendo is too busy with Super Mario or The Legend of Zelda, but they only made one F-Zero game and Nintendo didn't consider the series important anymore, so they were left out of developing anything for years until Hudson became defunct. Then they had a reason to dust off those backup developers.
Besides Shuichiro Nishiya and Atsushi Ikeda, the majority of the Hudson developers did not return to Nd Cube. That's probably why the Mario Party games still have a good charm to them and fun minigames. There's at least some veteran staff involved. Kenji Kikuchi, of course, directed the best Mario Party entries. And Ikeda started producing during his final entry, so the quality hasn't dipped dramatically at least. Sure wish Yasunori Mitsuda composed every entry though. The first Mario Party always did have the best music. I suppose they change the composer frequently to keep each game fresh.
Besides the online though, Super Mario Party maybe the best game they've developed in their many years as a company. Nd Cube really outdid themselves here, bringing in Nintendo's level of quality over to this game. I sure as hell know the ninth and tenth entries were busts (the latter only prospering in the creativity of the Gamepad with Bowser), but Super Mario Party is great. Just needs bigger boards. Or more of them.
Then they can work on porting the first Mario Party to the Virtual Console, assuming the datamines are true.
@FX102A Uh, cartridges were smart with the N64. Faster load times and it was stronger than its competition. Only downfall was the high production cost. But, the N64 still houses many games that people come back to.
Likewise, the GameCube was very powerful and the smaller discs made load times nonexistent. And again, many games people come back to. Hell, a controller everybody comes back to. And Nintendo too.
Why not have a voice chat app...and built-in support? Oh wait, Microsoft did it, so I guess that's not "different" now.
Discord forever, I suppose. Better audio quality and I can use it in the menus too.
Also, I can't think of a single reason why you'd use the app away from your Switch. Doesn't it need the Switch to even function? You can't even create or join chatrooms! If it at least had that, I'd consider it useful. It tethers itself to specific games. Why do games need support for this?! It's ludicrous.
@StephenYap3 Of course it only goes up to the Imperfect Cell and Perfect Cell Sagas. Unlike the first Budokai game, it is very forgivable here due to the fact that the Cell Games Saga literally just aired a few months ago. At least, the games have always appeared to take more notice from the anime than the manga, which is why they didn't go farther than the anime. That always seems to be the case with anime games as well.
And it's really dumb to bring up the obvious fact it doesn't have elements from Super in it. People aren't brain dead around here. They're well aware it's a nineties game and that Super only aired a few years ago.
HAHAHAH, I KNEW IT. PEOPLE ARE COMPLAINING AFTER THEY RELEASE THEM FOR INDIVIDUAL PURCHASE. I KNEW IT!
I saw an article a while back list some of the NES games as "(single player offline)" and I figured that meant they'd be for Virtual Console. Sadly, no online multiplayer it seems.
Hey, don't mean to come off as rude here, but for those people that are complaining at this guy for saying he should've done a new Katamari, you should remember people often test franchises to see if they will do well before making better products.
Case and point, DOOM. It did well on Switch, so now DOOM Eternal is also coming to it. I imagine more Katamari games will come to Switch since this one will do well. But, there's nothing wrong with starting off small. I enjoyed the first entry in the series a lot, so I welcome this with open arms.
However, I also agree with his opinion. Got bored of Breath of the Wild and Odyssey, but don't think they're bad games. I just wasn't a fan of the vast, open world and Odyssey spamming Moons instead of Kingdoms. Primarily because I like dungeon items that I can mess around with (A Link to the Past is still my favorite) and I like to have a hub world with tons of levels inside of it, as opposed to a bunch of hub worlds.
Also, pretty comical Luigi is not playable in Odyssey. I don't need Luigi in the story, but it would've been cool if he was unlocked after you beat the game.
@TheDanslator The NES controllers appear to have a Screenshot, Sync and Home button on the top, based on its design, so I don't see what additional functionality the Joy-Cons have that warrants the controller being obsolete for anything but NES games.
Oh, and as that other guy said, the Mega Man Legacy Collections. Those would have been amazing to play with these controllers! There are so many examples that it's just sad they didn't think to let you use them with more games.
@TheDanslator People are asking them to allow the NES controllers to with with Shovel Knight, VS. Super Mario Bros. or say NSMBUD. Is it really...no, I'm dead serious, is it really that difficult to think about the games that do support limited buttons? Shovel Knight would be incredible with this controller.
@aaronsullivan I mean, unless you have that 8Bitdo Wireless Adapter, which lets you sync a Wiimote to it and thus, your NES Classic controller is no longer all that short.
@C-Threep “Why? So you can pay $5 to $10 per game you’ve already bought twice before? Why not pay $20 per year and get 20 or so games and counting? I don’t see your logic."
The logic is that Nintendo is finally making what they advertised as their account system going forward, meaning if they were smart enough to reuse the Virtual Console, you could re-download the ones you got already. It doesn't work this way from Wii U to Switch since that's Nintendo Network ID to Nintendo Account.
Why they didn't stick with the Nintendo Network ID is beyond me.
“You do realize these controllers are 100% optional, as is the online service? Were you actually looking forward to playing Xenonlade 2 with two freaking buttons?"
No, people were looking forward to playing Shovel Knight and NSMBUD. Way to not bring up any other example than a game that makes full use of the controller! What a smart lad.
“Really? Really?! Last I checked PS and Xbox had one standard controller per console since the dawn of time. Did you have a Wii U? You could play many games with a Wii U game pad, pro controller, wiimote, wiimote and nunchuck, wiimote and classic controller, and even a 3DS and gamecube controller for Smash. Heck, the Switch can be played with a pro controller, on a TV, handheld mode, tabletop mode, 1 joy con, or 2 joy cons. Typical Nintendo? Smh."
But, the NES controllers not being usable for other games, something that may not be sold separately from the sixty dollar bundle, and even has its own controller icon, is pretty dumb.
These people aren't spewing nonsense, they're stating good arguments to Nintendo's dumb practices. You seemed to not list any good examples in an effort to make your counterargument toward them seem more fruitful, but in not listing the good sides of your points, you only make yourself come off as desperate to defend Nintendo.
I'm not a hater of them! I'm just saying that I have learned to notice visibly flaws in a company. And you should notice those flaws too instead of attempting to White Knight their bizarre stance on these controllers.
Not only Wiimote, but the Wii U Pro , PS4 and Xbox One controllers work as well! The Wii U Pro doesn't rumble for some reason though, but the other controllers do. And yes, any Classic Controller you have also works perfectly when attached to the Wiimote.

Re: Dead Or Alive Xtreme 3: Scarlet's First Trailer Shows Exclusive 'Soft 4D' Joy-Con Feature On Switch
@Yosher I imagine being asexual would do that to you.
Re: Sega Still Thinking About Releasing Puyo Puyo eSports Outside Of Japan
Would prefer Chronicles. If it does not end up on Switch, however, then eSports. Do not play the 3DS anymore, so have no incentive to buy a localized Chronicles unless the game itself is up and running properly on Citra.
Re: Analysts Believe Nintendo Will Fall Short Of Its Target To Ship 38 Million Switch By March 2019
@retro_player_22
1 - Yeah.
2 - Yeah.
Re: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Faces Massive Online Data Dump
@Daldra Whether or not the game is significant doesn't rectify spoilers. I bet you'd be another person to dump it online from the sounds of it.
Re: Nintendo Wins $12 Million From Trademark And Copyright Infringement Lawsuit
@Joeynator3000 There are NES games on Switch, egghead.
Re: Nintendo's Reggie Fils-Aimé On Why The Switch Uses A Mobile App For Voice Chat
@FX102A At the cost of funner games, apparently.
Re: Hold Me, Virtual Console Data Has Been Discovered In The Nintendo Switch eShop
@mikegamer Huh, I guess a datamine of the official Switch eShop is an information source I should consider invalid. Let me grab my notebook.
Re: The Pokémon Let's Go Series Could Progress To Johto If Players Enjoy Lets Go Pikachu And Eevee
@Octane This is sickening to me. So many of the animations in both Stadium games are miles better than Let's Go, both of which are, more or less, spin-off games.
Hell, Stadium has better animations than the main series games.
Re: Video: Super Mario Party's Online Mode Is A Real Party Pooper
Re: Nintendo's Reggie Fils-Aimé On Why The Switch Uses A Mobile App For Voice Chat
Re: Nintendo's Reggie Fils-Aimé On Why The Switch Uses A Mobile App For Voice Chat
Re: Nintendo Adding Three More Games To Switch Online NES Library Next Week
Wonder how many more months it'll take until people stop whining.
Re: Super Butoden Will Remain Exclusive To Dragon Ball FighterZ Pre-Orders
Re: Hold Me, Virtual Console Data Has Been Discovered In The Nintendo Switch eShop
@mikegamer Love that eShop datamine coming in to further help much argument a little while ago.
Re: Nintendo Switch Is About To Get Its First VR-Style Headset, But There's A Catch
For VR games, this seems worthless.
For Virtual Boy emulation, perfect. Would love to play Teleroboxer with this if Nintendo ever gave it compatibility.
Re: Hold Me, Virtual Console Data Has Been Discovered In The Nintendo Switch eShop
@mikegamer Except Nintendo is the one who's doing it.
Re: Hold Me, Virtual Console Data Has Been Discovered In The Nintendo Switch eShop
Re: Random: Katamari Director Wasn't Impressed With Mario Or Zelda On Switch
Re: Duck Game
Might as well slap on "2019" for that release date.
Re: Wireless NES Controllers Won't Work With Other Games On Nintendo Switch
No, TheDanslator. No. That wasn't it at all.
Re: Wireless NES Controllers Won't Work With Other Games On Nintendo Switch
@TheDanslator I see you ignored those other points I made, so I'm wasting my time here. Have a good day.
Re: Wireless NES Controllers Won't Work With Other Games On Nintendo Switch
@TheDragonDAFan Exactly.
Re: Wireless NES Controllers Won't Work With Other Games On Nintendo Switch
@TheDanslator The NES controllers appear to have a Screenshot, Sync and Home button on the top, based on its design, so I don't see what additional functionality the Joy-Cons have that warrants the controller being obsolete for anything but NES games.
Oh, and as that other guy said, the Mega Man Legacy Collections. Those would have been amazing to play with these controllers! There are so many examples that it's just sad they didn't think to let you use them with more games.
Re: Wireless NES Controllers Won't Work With Other Games On Nintendo Switch
@TheDanslator People are asking them to allow the NES controllers to with with Shovel Knight, VS. Super Mario Bros. or say NSMBUD. Is it really...no, I'm dead serious, is it really that difficult to think about the games that do support limited buttons? Shovel Knight would be incredible with this controller.
Re: Wireless NES Controllers Won't Work With Other Games On Nintendo Switch
@aaronsullivan I mean, unless you have that 8Bitdo Wireless Adapter, which lets you sync a Wiimote to it and thus, your NES Classic controller is no longer all that short.
Re: Wireless NES Controllers Won't Work With Other Games On Nintendo Switch
Re: Wireless NES Controllers Won't Work With Other Games On Nintendo Switch
@aaronsullivan The company infamous for having the same production value as Nintendo, 8BitDo!
https://www.amazon.com/Wireless-Bluetooth-Adapter-Nintendo-Switch-Raspberry/dp/B0786JC6VW
Not only Wiimote, but the Wii U Pro , PS4 and Xbox One controllers work as well! The Wii U Pro doesn't rumble for some reason though, but the other controllers do. And yes, any Classic Controller you have also works perfectly when attached to the Wiimote.
