Re: Wireless NES Controllers Won't Work With Other Games On Nintendo Switch

Notshane

This really goes back to one of my previous theories that would make Nintendo consoles way better, being when they care about the smaller things.

Remember how the Wii U has Wii Mode, but the simplest things like having the Gamepad and Wii U Pro function as controllers, or the Wii firmware getting one final update to support the GameCube Adapter so that the Wii games that have it as an option still do, were not present?

This is the same exact thing. Nobody is really enraged by this, but they're admittedly upset that the NES controllers, that you pay sixty bucks for, only work with NES games. Yes, the majority of games on Switch are nearly unplayable with only four buttons to work with (I believe the buttons on the top of the NES controller, from left to right, are Screenshot, Sync and Home, respectively) and all that, but think about the people who own VS. Super Mario Bros. These people probably wanted to use the NES controllers with that game, but it will never be possible.

These controllers, which have their own unique controller icon on the Switch (I assume the GameCube Adapter will follow suit after Ultimate comes out) and only cost ten bucks cheaper than a single Joy-Con is absurd.

For those confused, I'm using the theory that, since two Joy-Cons are eighty bucks and one is fifty, the NES controllers are sixty and one must be forty. Just like the Joy-Cons, you're saving twenty bucks by buying them in bulk, assuming they ever decide to sell them separately. But, for a controller that will most likely not have HD Rumble and a Gyroscope, I can only hope its high price tag is due to its beefy battery since it has no additional features preventing it from being drained and I imagine it will last an easy 100+ hours, but knowing Nintendo, I bet one of them will still be the same battery as the Joy-Cons, despite them probably not having any functionality beyond inputs.

These NES controllers are a waste of your time. Do not buy them. Wait until Nintendo releases an update that allows them to work with other games, because as I said before, why scoff the small things? If it's so small, then just do it! Another small thing would be the GameCube controllers rumbling. I have another adapter I use that actually lets you use a PS4 controller on the Switch and that rumbles just fine with its SD Rumble, so I see no reason why the GameCube controllers can't do the same.

Nintendo, you're selling people NES controllers for sixty bucks. If these controllers don't have a very hefty battery in them, there is no excuse for them to not be forty bucks for both of them. I have another adapter that lets me use the Wiimote with my Switch, and thus my NES Classic controller. This works with all of my Switch games and this will be my default option with the NES games on the Switch as well since you failed miserably with these controllers. The only upside would be they have the aforesaid Screenshot, Sync and Home buttons, but I don't care about that. I won't have a reason to ever screenshot my NES games very often and even if I did, I can just turn on a left Joy-Con and use that instead.

You really messed up badly, Nintendo.

Oh, and I would like to point out that, since these controllers will be Bluetooth, they're not entirely worthless. Just sync them up with your PC and you have some nice controllers for it that are wireless and first-party Nintendo.

Re: Your Nintendo Switch Cloud Save Files Will Be Lost If Your Online Subscription Expires

Notshane

And to top it off, I find it quite dumb the NES games do not have local saves. Must mean they are only playable through cloud. That means that we don't even get an offline way of playing them, killing the whole "portable nature" the console has to offer when you think about it.

But, there is one major upside. The games look and play significantly better than the Wii U NES emulator, it seems, so I really don't have a more convenient way to play it at home unless I pay for NSO. I suppose the Wii had a solid NES emulator, so I can just fire that up again in Wii Mode.

Re: Your Nintendo Switch Cloud Save Files Will Be Lost If Your Online Subscription Expires

Notshane

@dps5pt You just said it. Not having a backup of your save data. Some people, well it's rare, could have an accident with their Switch on the day the service expires or they simply don't have enough money to afford to renew it on the very day it expires.

I suppose, being as rare of an occurrence as these are, Nintendo simply doesn't care for these people. Just a few thousand less Switch sales to them, I suppose.

Re: Wii U Receives First System Firmware Update Since 2017

Notshane

People have very little reason to remember the Wii U.

Meanwhile, I sit here remembering how it made Harvest Moon 64 convenient to play after a couple of decades, as well as its first time being legally available digitally. A game they claimed impossible to run, but they just told us that to throw us off the surprise. It's unarguably the best Virtual Console game it received.

If possible, I'd love for the Wii U to get Rondo of Blood before they stop Virtual Console releases.

Re: Nintendo Shares Image Of Super Mario Bros. 3 In Action On Switch

Notshane

@BlueOcean That's absurd, though. It's all I've ever wanted from them. And just cause I haven't owned any past Nintendo consoles doesn't mean I should be shafted of releases on the Switch. Yes, they're out there, but you didn't think about it this way.

The Wii is very old and can only output at 480p. The Wii U has a very, very bad NES emulator. It's so bad that the homebrew community hasn't put in any real effort to get more games running on it since that would require injecting onto the existing emulator, which isn't fun to play games on.

The Switch, however, looks to be addressing the horrid problems with the Wii U emulator, plus the online multiplayer. I'm astonished this is a "niche" audience. Cause what are your other options? 480p or an option that makes the Wii look better by comparison! Even thinking about it logically, it makes sense they should end up on Switch. If it emulates anything like VS. Super Mario Bros. does, then that would make it the best.

Oh, but wait, there's still the 3DS. SMB3 had multiplayer, but it was limited to Download Play. And even if it had online, the 3DS isn't the coziest way to play these games. It is rather sad it has the best NES emulator between the Wii and Wii U, though.

So yeah, I don't care if it's niche, I don't care if people cling onto the past and force me to buy old consoles, I want these games on the Switch and I guess I'm the first person to be thankful for them. Not so much the subscription part, as I would prefer to buy them separately, but I appreciate them having online multiplayer.

Re: Ubisoft Will Not Release Rainbow Six Siege On The Nintendo Switch

Notshane

Nintendo really needs to release an upgraded dock so heavy-duty gaming is possible at home. If it had some hardware in it instead of overclocking abilities, then Nintendo would not be shafted of releases.

I like the Xbox One controller a lot, but ever since the new version of the Switch Pro Controller came out that has a normal directional pad, it's way better for these kinds of games. Nintendo needs them.

Re: Nintendo Shares Image Of Super Mario Bros. 3 In Action On Switch

Notshane

Really, I'm surprised at you people. You're young now and I'm sure some of you have buddies locally to play retro games with, but you don't realize what potential this brings to be able to play games like these online.

Once you get older, your buddies will be off to college. Strong chances are that you will not be in the same college with them. Or they will leave your town to pursue a career. And eventually, you realize you barely see each other at all.

But, with this online service, you can still play your favorites with your buddy, no matter where they are. It's rather comical that people are now being hypocrites yet again and saying this is a bad idea, when in actuality, I'm sure many of you have buddies that you used to love playing retro games with that no longer live near you. I'm sure you miss those moments and this service will only let you have more of those fun times together.

I'm not defending the aspect that the games are tethered with it, as I would much prefer for them to be singular, offline purchases. But, the online multiplayer part is amazing and I am genuinely dumbfounded to hear the lot of you say it's a bad idea. With how bad net codes are on most emulators, alongside the fact most of your buddies probably won't care enough to take the time to set them up, this is a godsend.

But, I suppose I will be the only one to appreciate it. I also find it funnier for those saying "how will we play SMB3 online" when you forget that the game does indeed have multiplayer. Meanwhile, I sit here thinking how I can not wait to use that swap button and listen to my buddy rage quit every time he misses a jump over voice chat. It's like a live Let's Play that you can participate in yourself.

Sorry if I am coming off as rude for those that do appreciate this, but this is mainly to point out the potential for those that don't. I notice the majority of the comments here are just scoffing this feature off, but I am very happy it's with us. And obviously NES won't be the only thing we get, but it certainly will be the only thing we have for a while. I am excited to play those Pokémon Stadium minigames online and patiently await for its release.

Re: Duck Game Is Set To Make A Splash On Nintendo Switch

Notshane

This was confirmed since the first Switch event last year, but you know, it's nice to know they didn't freaking FORGET ABOUT IT considering they haven't mentioned it since last, last January. And somehow, still no confirmed release date.

At least the developers of Ultimate Chicken Horse were kind enough to inform us that the Switch version was delayed. We all expected Duck Game on Switch last summer, given the game's simple nature. We haven't even heard of Pocket Rumble in a while either, but that was SUPPOSED to come out last March.

Whatever, I'm happy we can finally see it running on a Switch, hopefully meaning it will come sometime in spring at the very latest. I can't see summer for this unless they're really lazy.

Re: Preview: Fire Emblem Warriors Could Be The Best Musou Game Yet

Notshane

@HeroponRiki That's such an outdated complaint for any modern video game. With people prioritizing heavy graphical detail and the like these days, video games will naturally take much longer to make. And as such, whipping out extra content in the form of DLC isn't a bad thing since, without it, we'd probably be waiting for 7-9 years between major game releases.

Granted, it could at least be in free updates and not priced.

Re: Poll: Nintendo's Switch Arcade Archives - Is It the Retro Gaming You Want?

Notshane

I will come clean and say it. Very angry that Nintendo did not convince HAMSTER to tone down the price. They charge eight bucks for all their Arcade releases, but really now. Nintendo should have told them that the vast majority of their Mario games for the past couple decades have been bundled with Mario Bros. Be it on the GBA re-releases of the trilogy, World or Superstar Saga. You should have published these yourselves.

As far as Arcade goes, I am happy the Switch has an Arcade anything. We haven't had Arcade on any shop of Nintendo's since the Wii Shop Channel and I am very grateful for the idea of Arcade games returning. I will only buy a few from Nintendo's own archive, given this is their first time being re-released and the only legal means to play them, but I won't buy all of them. Too overpriced. I would gladly pay even ten bucks for The Revenge of Death Adder, however. Amazing game. Very dumb the Saturn did not get a port. I digress.

But yes, this is the retro gaming I want. I want Arcade games. I don't care too much about the Nintendo ones, but please, PLEASE put SEGA ones on. They have so many damn good ones that it hurts to even mention them since I just want to play them so badly on the Switch once I do. Neo Geo has tons of great ones, but SEGA has a far superior library of Arcade hits that they published in the nineties that I would gladly pay a lot to play on the Switch.

HAMSTER, partner up with SEGA soon. And Nintendo, well, please don't make me buy the same games on Switch again once your actual Virtual Console service comes out. If I owned the Wii U and bought a ton there, then I expect to head to the Switch downloading a ton- oh who am I kidding. They already established that the Switch accounts are, once again, brand new and unrelated to the previous service. I will be paying for my favorites again.

All I can say is thank goodness that the Switch has amazing modern games. That is really all it has going for it. Complete opposite of the Wii U, which has an amazing selection of Virtual Console goods now that only improve with homebrew.

Re: Stardew Valley Has Been Finalized on Nintendo Switch

Notshane

@SwitchVogel Um, no. The real Harvest Moon was when the creators were developing it. They left after Harvest Moon DS and Island of Happiness onward is new people. Still MARVELOUS, but not the creator and key developers of the Harvest Moon series that left. I think anyone should have picked up on that, given Pete was no longer the protagonist anymore. Well, that was the second character's official name in Harvest Moon 64. He is Mark in A Wonderful Life and goes by the fan name of Jack in the SNES game since he has no name there.

But yeah, Stardew Valley is real hype. I considered every Harvest Moon "Story of Seasons" ever since Island of Happiness, but I'm open to another one of those on the Switch as well. Hopefully, A Wonderful Life makes it to Switch Virtual Console in the future.

Re: Nintendo Download: 23rd February (Europe)

Notshane

CONSARNIT, NINTENDO LIFE. IT CAME OUT IN NORTH AMERICA TODAY, TOO. WHY DIDN'T YOU MENTION THAT?!

Also, for anyone holding off buying this cause of Switch Virtual Console, please note that was delayed and won't be present at launch. Expect it mid-2017 cause, as per the case with their recent consoles, Virtual Console services usually don't kick in until four to six months after launch.

So, speaking of kicking, stop kicking yourself to wait for the Switch Virtual Console and buy this for your Wii U already. I first experienced this glorious game on a real N64 a year ago, was also the first time I ever played it, and the nostalgia glasses did not blind me at all. I chose it as my new favorite over the one I played when I was younger cause it was just that good of an entry.

Re: There Are Currently 'No Plans' For Final Fantasy XV On Nintendo Switch

Notshane

Thank goodness. As popular as the series is, it has gone downhill and I don't care for it being on Switch. If they give us the old Final Fantasy games on Virtual Console, that'd be even better.

Hell, I am still hyped for Nocturne in the Moonlight to be on Switch. Ever since SSF proved the Saturn could render transparencies via software manipulation, Nintendo could take advantage of the Saturn port of Symphony of the Night since it's in SEGA's hands and not Sony's.

Re: LEGO Worlds is Indeed Coming to the Nintendo Switch

Notshane

Why are people concerned that a LEGO game will look bad on the Switch of all games? Smh.

Also, this makes me feel nostalgic. I remember when Blockland was supposed to be a LEGO building game until Badspot lost the license. I play the beta every now and then.

Re: Review: Gotta Protectors (3DS eShop)

Notshane

I want my Wii U to have this, not Noitu Love: Devolution!

That is still a good game, of course. But, that game clearly proves that they could port a game like this over as well.

Ah well, I bought this on my 3DS. I have never been excited to play a game on my 3DS in months. Most of them have been unimpressive to me, so I can not wait to try this. I love the anime style it has and it looks captivating.

Re: The Dolphin Emulator Can Now Play the Entire GameCube Library

Notshane

I am not the hugest fan of Dolphin myself for being slow on most games, but once I played Brawl on it, I was astonished. I have a high-end rig (yes, this proves that the emulator is the one with the problems), so I can run at maximum settings. And the results were breathtaking. It made Sm4sh look inferior, which is laughable as it reminds me how cartoony that game's artstyle really was. Oh, and Mario for sure looks much better in HD Brawl than he ever did in Sm4sh. Anti-aliasing is miles better as well.

As such, I only play Project M on Dolphin now. I could not go back to the Wii, let alone the Wii U due to no homebrew allowing the GameCube Adapter to function the same as the motherboard version on the Wii.

However, I am still stuck in a rough patch between playing The Twin Snakes on Dolphin or Nintendont. Dolphin had hiccups with the game, though it looked amazing. I was also sad because it had an HD texture pack left unfinished.

If this new version of Dolphin finally fixes that game for me, I will have two games to play on there.

Re: A Duo Of TurboGrafx-16 Games Hit The Wii U Virtual Console In North America This Week

Notshane

I feel like most of you guys are being jerks here about this. Most of you wanted Turbografx-16 and yet, you are like "meh" when it finally shows up? Also, remember that GameCube hardware is in the Wii U, as proof of Nintendontn being able to run all GameCube games on Wii Mode. Nintendo just does not feel like putting them up, so do not say they lack it because of how "hard" the "emulation" would be. Nintendo is just being lazy.

Still, though this is a long shot, I would love for them to import both Rondo of Blood and Madou Monogatari whenever they get the chance. If all else fails, VC Injection is finally a thing and, with three games released, should be a breeze to put some of my favorites onto the Wii U. Someday, I hope there is a way to also place the cover art, title and other such things so that you do not have to track the games down when you hack into the ROM file.

Re: Poll: The Wii U GamePad - Where Do You Stand on Nintendo's Hefty Controller?

Notshane

Yeah, to me, the Wii U Gamepad will have the same experience as the Wiimote. Even though the Wiimote proved its worth with Skyward Sword and the benefits of Motion Plus, people wanted to move on from it due to how much it was only used for Waggle® even though most games after Skyward Sword began to use Motion Plus in a beneficial way. They aren't very popular games, however.

As such, the poor Gamepad will endure the same fate. Everyone will be like "move on" even though it has all these cool features. I can agree that, had it had GOOD uses of it, people would not be upset over it "adding onto" the price tag of the main package. Cause I imagine many enjoyed waggling for many years, despite their "hatred" for it, and I imagine not many thought it was wasted at all.

However, should that second screen controller peripheral on the NX prove to be true, I hope Nintendo tries to make games that incorporate individual screen multiplayer much better. Say, they put Black Ops III on it and do split-screen, have BOTH screens do 60fps and lower the graphics if need be. If the NX is going beyond the PS4, then the graphics would simply be lowered to PS3 standards for two-player split-screen.

That was my only complaint about the gamepad was the split-screen turning most games, especially Hyrule Warriors, to gloop. Graphically speaking, they turn into PS2 games at times and more horsepower would result in better performance. So, I hope the NX is more powerful so that its downgrade with the two-player experience is only minor and it still retains 60fps. THAT would be doing something revolutionary, as even PC struggles.

@Notshane - pls mind the swears

Re: Soapbox: Nintendo Was Wrong To Turn Its Back On The Wii Remote

Notshane

After reading all of the opinions expressed here, I agree that the Wii U should've used the Wiimote more; provided said new games would actually use the MotionPlus.

I mean, just look at the comments here. I bet if, like you said, had MotionPlus been there sooner, many more people would agree that the controller had potential.

So, to me, yeah, the Wiimote was HEAVILY underrated and it's fun as hell navigating menus with it. I hope the NX lets me use it once more, alongside being able to play Wii U games again. And, please, return the gamepad; I loved every game that utilized it properly and Off-TV Play was such a good idea that it got a Wikipedia article.

And, lastly, PLEASE put Neo Geo and more back onto the Virtual Console. And, possibly, SEGA saturn. Also, please make a universal USB so we can use any Nintendo controller. I'd pay for them, especially if each one had all ports onto them for their respective systems, such as two for NES, four for N64 and so on.

Re: Rumour: Super Smash Bros. Planned as NX Launch Title, Bandai Namco Working on "Several" Games

Notshane

Maybe the enhancement can throw in the Ice Climbers, given they were finished on the Wii U version and failed on the 3DS version. So, I want to say they have a concept that is ready to be made into a fighter and it would barely take any time if they worked with their Brawl versions, tweaked a few things here and there for Sm4sh's speed and released them for the NX version.

Re: Feature: Exciting Wii U and 3DS Games to Play in the First Quarter of 2016

Notshane

Next month is the biggest hype for me. But, how could you forget about the infamous Pokémon Virtual Console release date that will put out the three originals with TRADING compatibility? It's a beautiful dream because we can now do it once more on an official Nintendo system and it will be quite wonderful.

But, since the DLC for Sm4sh has no release date, I sadly want to bet that it will come out in late-February. It seems likely, given Cloud came a little ways after his reveal and it was not exactly a month later, either, but little over. I predict either February 18, 2015 or later.

But, that picture reminded me that the NEW 3DS XL HAS SUCH GENERIC BUTTONS. How come that big one never got awesome buttons? My big mitts can barely hold the little one, but its matte finish feels so much better than the glossy XL and the buttons look better. I wish it were BIGGER, though.

Re: Rumour: A List of Unreleased Titles for the eShop and Virtual Console Just Leaked

Notshane

@Grumblevolcano It is not nice to ignore people.

At any rate, you are still in the wrong. Do you hear yourself talking? "We know that updates are coming to Super Mario Maker though" yeah, but Nintendo would not add MULTIPLAYER to it within these updates, so it still makes sense to re-release that entry. I am pretty certain that their aim is for the single-player department due to that feeling the most retro as this was not really an existing feature until the Wii iteration of the popular reboot, New Super Mario Bros.

Honestly, most of my friends actually hated the co-op in the Wii iteration and we never actually played it that often at all; the last time was probably half a decade ago. Actually pretty sad, but what can you do?

We all grew up from Mario games and have moved on with our lives; only coming back to the ones we did grow up with, that Super Mario Maker conveniently provides through its various graphical options.

So, in my opinion, they are not losing a whole lot with it being exclusively single-player and they are CERTAINLY not doing anything wrong by re-releasing the old ones again onto the Virtual Console. The Nintendo-made levels are still phenomenally fun whenever I play them.

As I said before, not that you read it given how obvious it was that you scoffed me off, you are basically saying that they should go ahead and remove all the originals due to them "mimicking" Super Mario Maker.

Re: Natsume Planning Wii U and 3DS E3 Reveals, More Harvest Moon DLC and Loads of GBA VC Games

Notshane

I hope they choose Harvest Moon 64 over Friends of Mineral town. Being both the same, would make sense that they choose the updated version.

But, the original is a lot more fun and entertaining to play; I believe they referenced drinking in it, too, and forgot to censor it as they did before.

It might look a bit grainy, but emulators can not run it at full speed at all and nobody has done an injection on it for the Wii. I want to play it real badly.

Re: Video: Mario Kart 8 Isn't The Only New Mario Kart Game You Can Play In 2014

Notshane

If Virtual Console Arcade from the Wii Shop is ported to the eShop, ALL OF THESE SHOULD BE IN IT because they are arcade games, same as the other ones they did in that section.

I really want to try that freaking fusion thing, and the graphics don't look overly detailed, but remind me of the retro days so this is awesome. I'd love to play all of these on the Wii U, cause Mario Kart is known for its good music and stages and having THREE WHOLE games to put on my Wii U would be fantastic, I wouldn't even care if it took up a lot more gigs than usual just cause its Mario Kart and cause all the courses are brand new, I'd gladly pay even $10 for each game, maybe a little higher but if so I'd probably buy them not all at once if that were the case.

Re: Weirdness: There Are Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS Demo Codes Being Sold on eBay

Notshane

I'm starting to come to the sad realization that demo codes are non-existent now. That really stinks, because I took a break from the internet that weekend, so of course it's only natural the game comes in demo form that very weekend (probably has thousands of new demo users now, courtesy of the generosity of the Nintendo players, at least most of them...)

If anyone does have one left, though, by any chance whatsoever, I'd really appreciate it if you sent one to my email I've been looking for about...well, the entirety of my day today, for one. Email again is [email protected] all help is greatly appreciated

Re: Weirdness: There Are Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS Demo Codes Being Sold on eBay

Notshane

I might be far too late for this, but....anyone got any NA codes? I've been waiting for this game for a while now, I also have another friend whose crazy about this game and he'd flip if I could show him a demo of it! I pre-ordered the Wii U version and so that'll take a long time...send to [email protected] if you have a spare North American code, I also agree I hate people who take advantage of this in a profitable way, I mean geez haven't we all been waiting long enough, it's to the point where they're aware we're desperate....which makes sense, but still that's a horrible thing to take advantage of for money.

Well, yeah. Anyone who has a spare NA code, please send one If I had a platinum account, God knows how I'd ever get one of those, I would've shared mine with my other 3DS friends for free! Tho I only got my two bros who own a 3DS lol, so the last one would've went to the internet!
