Re: Pokémon Unite, An Online Team Battle Game, Revealed For Switch And Mobile

NookMiler

This is freaking ridiculous. The backlash this presentation got is COMPLETELY warranted. When you announce an entire presentation on this new Pokemon game, expectations are going to be high... there is no need to hype people up for something like this.

This has got to be the biggest bait and switch The Pokemon Company has ever done. I hope their Unite game tanks hard and they take full notice.

Re: Hacker Group Not Happy About Nintendo's "Censorship" And "Legal Scare Tactics"

Hacking and pirating for profit is condemnable. That said, Nintendo has to know that homebrew exclusively for homebrew is completely legal (under niche circumstances). There is no stealing of intellectual property when you run unsigned code fitted for homebrew applications. I think this is where they are coming from. Yes, the products or software that release can be conditioned for piracy, but it doesn't mean that the custom firmware and homebrew itself is innately illegal. This is especially more true after the warranty period.

This is the same situation as the emulator you have to run GBA roms is not itself illegal, but the downloaded roms that you grab off the Internet are. People need to understand this important distinction before labeling all forms of tampering with the consoles that they own as illegal. Obviously, it is 100% in Nintendo's right to sue people who have pirated games already on their consoles preinstalled and attempt to sell it for money.

"Maybe now people will quit "bugging" Nintendo for a throwback Paper Mario"

Actually I hope that this prompts Nintendo to reconsider going back to the old formula in the next iteration after Origami King. If the game sells well, this will be indicative of that. This game deserves a 9 or 10, I am really enjoying it so far and impressed by how polished of an experience it is.

Re: Feature: Super Mario Galaxy 2 - 10 Years Of Nintendo's Straightest, Greatest Sequel

@ISoleilI Yes, I personally would be more hyped for a Galaxy 3 over an Odyssey 2. I'm probably the minority on this one, but I had a much more fun time with Galaxy 2 over Odyssey.

64 and Sunshine represent the pinnacle of 3D Marios for me, with the Galaxy games slotted right behind them. I clamor for a 3D Mario as difficult as Sunshine; we really haven't had any 3D Mario of comparable difficulty since.

I adored 64 for its isolation, and Sunshine for its sheer difficulty. I always felt that getting a star or shine and getting booted back out of a level felt more satisfying than any moon in Odyssey. Odyssey felt like more of a methodical Zelda title if anything, with an assortment of puzzles and easter eggs everywhere. Whereas 64, Sunshine, and the Galaxy games focused on platforming prowess.

@DarkKirby I'm of the opinion that the game looks nice, but the art style is not nearly as timeless as 64 and TTYD. Which is why I wished they ditched the whole sticker look altogether. Even the snippet of the battle system in the trailer (although there is much still to be seen) seems a bit stiff and less fluid than the two best games in the series.

Don't get me wrong though, the game has potential. But this was not the direction visually I wanted to see.
