The Kickstarter for The Wonderful 101: Remastered was a huge success - with the campaign raising more than $1 million in just over 12 hours.
Now that the game is out on the Switch, PlayStation 4 and PC, PlatinumGames' president and CEO Kenichi Sato has revealed the Japanese company is already considering more self-published games. In the same blog post, Sato said Platinum would continue to work with other publishers:
We’re already thinking about self-published games to come. But don’t take that to mean we’re going to stop working with other publishers, too! That will continue as well.
It's reassuring to know Platinum is still focused on its work with other companies. For example, it's currently "hard at work" on Bayonetta 3, which is a Nintendo-published title.
While the Kickstarter of The Wonderful 101 has certainly paid-off for Platinum, physical copies of the game have unfortunately experienced delays in both North America and Europe due to the coronavirus outbreak.

If it means getting stuff like Scalebound and The Wonderful 102, I'm down
Good then they can also focus on making Wonderful 101 on Switch a good port.
Please focus on a sequel.... I've been waiting a long time now.
Forget about the Kickstarter haters. Keep doing amazing games Platinum.
Can't wait for my free DLC
I still really enjoyed the game despite the performance issues, even in the original Wii U release. I just think they still should've made a decent effort on the "remaster" especially on Switch. I guess they got lazy since it's a multi-platform port and if you don't like the performance on one platform you can jump to the next. Especially true for backers that received free steam keys for the physical release delay.
Hoping for decent performance updates.
I haven’t had a single update about getting my physical copy. I got a steam digital code, even though I chose a switch physical.
Perhaps a sequel to Transformers: Devastation?
Did this game sell poorly again? I have not seen the game in the US eShop best sellers list.
All well and good, I'm happy for them. However, they should have realized long before they announced the delay of the physical version (of which I'm not opening) that giving everyone who backed it a Steam code was probably the worst option. I myself will never support Steam, Valve, or Newell on moral reasons, but the decision to offer a digital code in apology for the delay should have resulted in a digital code for the respective platform they backed it on. While I wish them well on self-publishing, this was the first time I used Kickstarter and even though their apology/offer was kind and unnecessary, it was severely misguided. That move alone ensures that next time, I'll wait for it to be released proper.
In the end I was grabbing the digital version to play and physical to collect anyway, so it didn't hinder me, it just sits funny and soured what should have been a good experience.
@Zyph I don't think they got lazy.. I think they just didn't have the human or financial resources to devote to the game. They have at least 3 other games they are working on right now in a company of roughly 200.. So they probably only had a really small B-team put on the project.
But I think they screwed up by doing a Kickstarter because if they are going to do a Kickstarter, they need to take the project more seriously or they really let down their fans. Making it so their backers get the game well-after it's released is bad PR even if there are extenuating circumstances.
Good. I like to hear this.
I wish Nintendo would just purchase them. Have them, Retro and Monolith be their divisions for more mature IPs while they focus on the Mario/Zelda stuff.
Please make an "Astral Chain 2" on the Switch. I know y'all working on "Bayonetta 3". But I hope y'all make Astral chain sequel immediately once Bayonetta 3 is completed.
ASTRAL CHAIN IS ONE HELL OF A GAME ONE HELL OF A GAME INDEED!!! I LOVE IT!!!!!
Astral chain is some form of magic. I like more of that too
@RPGamer Viewtiful Joe? The Capcom game
It seems that this game was not re-released for sales, but for collecting money from suckers through kickstarter.
Their quality control might get even lower if they start publishing their own games.
@alecseus Literally. They admitted that they didn't need the money for developing the port.
Awesome, more ports that run worse than the original versions.
@SeantheDon29 Absolutely, I'd be all over a sequel! Even a port of the original to the Switch would be gratefully received at this point.
Mad world port please. Underrated Wii game, sure it's nothing amazing but it's a fun beat em up.
@kingbk Please no. Platinum should have the autonomy they desire, and some of the collaborations they’ve done wouldn’t be possible if they were stifled by being owned by any of the console manufacturers. Look what happened to Clover under Capcom.
@Rpg-lover
Was my game of the year loved it and really really want a sequel to
Vanquish on Switch Let's go!
@TheLightSpirit I'm surprised by the level of excitement around the Wonderful 101 port. It seemed like it got mostly shrugs of indifference when it originally came out on Wii U. I was really active on Miiverse, and when people talked about their favorite games on the system, I don't remember anyone mentioning Wonderful 101.
@RPGamer You are half right. Viewtiful Joe (along with okami) was made by clover studios (Which was Kamiya-san’s studio when he was there) at capcom. When capcom closed clover, Kamiya-san grabbed most of the staff and made Platinumgames. That being said Capcom owns Viewtiful Joe, so short of a remaster there likely won’t be any new games in the series unless capcom is willing to lease out the franchise to a publisher willing to bankroll development like with sony and street fighter V.
Pardon the inconsistency in capitalization as I am on my phone.
@RPGamer Uh... What? On second thought, I'd rather not know.
This game is so awesome and unique! Nothing like it out there ! I'm glad I missed out (avoided) the Wii U. Actually I'm glad I missed the Wii U in general because most of the good games are now on the Switch 🤷♂️
@BlueOcean but they admitted it was for publishing.... so.....
oh yeah they still have metal gear revengence version
