One release that popped up out of nowhere last month was Jump Rope Challenge. It's a free Switch eShop download that's available until this September. The aim of it - as you probably already know - is to jump at least 100 times per day.
As basic as it is, it seems Switch players around the world are sticking with this new exercise routine. Following on from the last update on 19th June (which recorded 200 million jumps), players have now jumped over 590,000,000 times in the game. This latest update was shared during Nintendo's 80th General Shareholders Meeting Q&A.
Here's exactly what was said, according to translator and Nintendo Life contributor, Robert Sephazon:
Director Takahashi goes onto say that Jump Rope Challenge was created by Nintendo developers during remote work. Over 590,000,000 jumps have been recorded by the time of the Q&A.
As limited as this game is, we actually gave this game eight out of ten stars in our recent mini-review and said it was a noble attempt to get Switch owners active during these difficult times - and would perhaps even put a smile on your face, too.

Nintendo - sneezes
Nintendo Life - Yeah, that’s a solid 8/10
Thank you Nintendo, the industry needs more developers like you. Too many are scared to do something different and against the grain. Gaming would die again without yall.
Wait I'm confused... what do you mean by it's available until September??
So, sooooooooo many jumps.
So many.
@Chibi_Manny In September, it will leave the eShop. You can still play it if you already downloaded it.
Wish they would've made a game full of minigames like this and gave it free alongside the Switch.
@Chibi_Manny From Nintendo's official PR:
"Get up and get moving in the simple new Jump Rope Challenge game, now available for free as a limited-time release until the end of September in Nintendo eShop on the Nintendo Switch system and on Nintendo.com"
tbf me and my lil bro cheesed it one time and just swung our joycons in a circle with the strap on until we reached the max 1000 mark for the day, so who knows which ones are from actual jumps lol
Wish you could exceed 1,000 jumps per day.
@nessisonett seriously, the game is so basic, it makes no sense! It's kinda like one of those games you launch and try it out for a few mins and then hardly ever come back to it again and they are giving it an 8/10. It isn't even very accurate and totally miscounts your jumps! If this wasn't a Nintendo game, they wouldn't even waste their time reviewing it.
@Alztru
That's the whole point. It is meant to be basic. Not worth the 8/10 score maybe. But I've been playing it daily.
And yes, you can cheat and it can recognise jumps incorrectly but that usually means you aren't jumping fully as you can just run on the spot which defeats it's purpose.
@Alztru It's free. It doesn't hurt anyone. It doesn't take profits from anyone. The only think it takes is screen time, but for good reason. It makes people move in an era where it can be difficult to since some people live in countries where they can't go outside. You should be more virulent about full price game that are basic and don't have any game design idea and only get good reviews scores because they have big budget development. The videogames industry is too much alienated by big money and this game is far from being the biggest problem.
@glaemay I didn't argue about the price! Because it's free and doesn't take money from anyone is hardly a good reason why it should be given 8/10. It looks bland, sound is dull, isn't very accurate, and has no variety or options but because it's from Nintendo and it is free they are suddenly talking about it like it's the next Ring Fit Adventure. I bet if it wasn't from Nintendo, you would have been one of the people that would've come to the comments to talk about how Nintendo is letting the eShop get flooded with crap.
I live in an apartment, so I guess I shouldn't be stomping on my downstairs neighbors :/
@Alztru It's just a good game design idea in the good time and you complain it doesn't have a big budget. Videogames can be a form of expression for everyone even if you're game is small. There's no point arguing with you, you contantly move the goalpost and you're too blinded by money.
I think the game is neat, but it needs to be better at counting your jumps accurately. It also needs to let you jump past 100 without having to hit a button prompt to continue jumping. I hope they make more games like this
@glaemay Please mention one place in any of my posts on this article I talked about money? I just hope you're not one of those people who everything Nintendo is automatically = wonderful regardless of reality? Go see the reply on my comment from @dazzleshell and ask yourself why I didn't reply his comment. Because he simply understands that my argument is that this game is given so much absurd recognition and high ratings simply because it is a Nintendo game and I also clearly understood his point. I don't think it's terrible game so to speak but it is totally unremarkable.
@boxyguy yeah I mean sure people could do that, but then it begs the question, why even bother? Surely you have to have better things to do with your time and life no? For those of us actually implementing this into our workout routine, keep kicking butt! I use this as part of my warmup before Ring Fit.
Given how popular it has been, i don't understand why it has to be available for a limited time...
Only reason we will keep hearing about this app is Nintendo's name attached. Next up 1 trillion jumps.
@Ks123 yeah which is why we only ever did it one time, even my bro at the end of it asked why we just did that lol. it wasnt a game we were planning on planning regularly anyway, so we just tried out the free game and stopped after that
@ummyeahnintendo
You need to change your daily challenge amount from 100 to whatever you prefer. I set mine to 300 just so it generates the new background earlier. Then I carry on to 1000.
