Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (April 24th)

Same as last weekend, had some health issues (not serious) that have led to me not being able to play/enjoy games as much the last week or so but now I'm pretty much back to my old self, yay!

So, DQ11 S (honestly Sylv never fails to put a smile on my face)
Muse Dash
and some more daily Cozy grove (I wish it would run better and you had more inventory spaces because I really like it)

Gavin Lane/Nintendolife staff can we start a 'what have you bought this week/month?' article as well do you think?
Cause I'm sure I am not the only one who buys a lot but they stay in backlogs for years after that, but it's still fun to discuss what we have picked up. It doesn't have to be who has the most
£££'s competition either since so many games are on sale a lot of time, would just be fun to know and maybe give us a chance to pick up things we wouldn't normally have considered/known about to broaden our (new)horizons' see what I did there? a bit, just a thought.
Happy gaming everypony :3

Re: Talking Point: Is "Cheesing" A Legitimate Strategy?

Nintendo_Pone

Hey, you bought the game you play it however you want to and don't let anyone tell you that you can't. Sure there is a correct way, but I think cheesing means you are just thinking outside the box
Reminds me of the animal crossing time travel argument that's always going on. As long as you are not rubbing the stuff you got early in other people's faces, its all cool by me.

When it comes to multiplayer there's a bit of a grey area but I think if one person is doing it so will thousands of others and doing it will probably force the devs to patch whatever it is to make it fairer quicker. I remember the days of the godly tri-slosher in splatoon fondly.

Also I am not ashamed to play on easy, or start on normal and turn it down, i feel like higher difficulties are an arbitrary way to waste your time and heighten your blood pressure personally

Playing Dragon Quest XI S and so far I adore this game so much. Dabbled in the previous games but the random encounters were too grating for me. This however, not one bad word to say about it.

Also will be playing my 3rd day of Cozy Grove later, reviews were middling yet its so perfect for when i'm too tired/burned out to play anything else and fits into my life perfectly. Also chipping away at Muse Dash.

I voted in all of these and now I feel... dirty.
Also 17% would eat Yamper at the time of voting you sick twisted fruits you.

Great (If not very bizzare) article.
I mean I thought about something I never have before thats skill right there, I'm a very deep 1am thinker after all, so kudos to Kate XD

Hopelessly addicted to Littlewood I absolutely LOVE this game, how people have only played 40 hours on it on HLTB is beyond me, I've played it for 10 hours straight the last couple of days and gotten nowhere and I LOVE that feeling <3

I bought Olive Town (still sealed) but I just know I am going to enjoy this little indie much more than that AA game, I can feel it... Oof

@BenAV
That sucks so hard, so frustrating as its not exactly cheap either, I can expect a few hitches with indies but for that price point you'd expect it to run without a hitch. Saving shouldn't even be something you are forced to think about, big bummer. Hopefully they will be able to salvage it with future patches, but I'm thinking not enough people will actually buy it and stir up a fuss for that to happen.

I still believe there should be a refund option for games that just break like this. Don't blame you for not starting again, there is just too much competition on the switch for your time without wasting it on a game that could nuke your progress at any time.
Super disappointing.

@BenAV
A-train crashed? OOF.
I wanted to get this one soon and now I'm having second thoughts, I can never get motivated to play again if I lose progress through no fault of my own. Welp guess I will pick up the new story of seasons instead as my main (£40+) game this month then even though i was gonna wait since I bought Harvest Moon recently instead to give it a chance.

Re: Review: Harvest Moon: One World - A Poor Imitation Of A Once-Great Series

This idiot DID get married. And the events following made me uninstall the game after 70 hours. I married Gabrielle. We sleep in separate beds for some reason (which i can get over) and despite her cat being a big part in her life and looking like it was gonna move in as well it was nowhere to be seen but that's not the worst part...

The girl is a late riser so one day after being married i waited by her bed like a creeper seeing what time she woke up so i could speak with her, y'know as you do in all farming sims...
Nope. She just vanished from her bed, no walking animation or anything and returned to outside the house she lived in prior to marriage and what did she have to say?
'How is that request coming along?'
350k and not even the chance to speak with her in my home or even so much as share a meal with her, no difference whatsoever.

This was the last straw for me and was a massive middle finger for someone who was trying her best to enjoy the game despite its faults. Yesterday I may have said 3/10 was a bit low and it deserved just a little more because i did enjoy parts of it, but lol nope.

Edit: you were sane enough to not play long enough for your animals to die because they do, no matter how much you take care of them and in only one year as well.

Playing Harvest moon one world since i wanted to have my own battle of the farms experience and I am actually really enjoying it. The criticisms so far are definitely valid, it does look trash, there is no way this game should be skipping frames and everywhere does look very barren but it really did change up the formula a bit with the seed gathering instead of buying them from shops, and how everything is just controlled by the A button is sooo refreshing i have never understood why you need so many menus to switch between different tools. The characters (and their models) are actually quite interesting as well and i actually care about them, though sadly the repeated dialogue over and over is grating but even the mineral town remake had this problem.

If i need downtime from my crops will probably have a breather on one of my rhythm games.

I am also crying into my drink about how much i am interested in the A train game that just came out despite its steep price but alas that will have to wait since i went nuts on sales earlier in the month, that and those last 2 ff games that i want to snap up are on sale too OOF

Re: Soapbox: It's Time To Normalise Giving Up On Games Early

Nintendo_Pone

It's gotten very easy for me to give up on a game with one simple thing;
If I am ACTUALLY noticing the hours go by; that's when I know I'm bored and not enjoying the game. If you are loving a game you turn it on and OOPS it's bedtime, that's how you know it has its hooks in you, no matter what kind of game it is.
At that point i just uninstall it, maybe i will try it again one day, maybe my tastes will change but not right now. And if its a physical i will 100 percent know if it's not my thing because i will instinctively want to trade it in or sell it to get something else, but if i have my reservations, i keep it.

Sometimes it's not even the game's fault, or the need to grind or git gud I love harvest moon/story of seasons too as well as rpgs yet with rune factory 4 special i just couldn't get past the 50 hours mark no matter how desperately I wanted to and i still don't have a good reason why, all i can put it down to is I think games being so cheap to get in sales now leads to a lot of neverending backlogs and when all those gems are competing with your time its hard to justify wasting your time on a game when you would be having more fun elsewhere. In THE 90'S sure even if you hated it you (or probably your parents) paid top dollar for that game and you are gonna enjoy it son, whether you like it or not. But we have so much more choice and freedom now.

Re: Video: Check Out Harvest Moon: One World's Launch Trailer

@k8sMum
this.

I couldn't agree more, i actually liked the last 'Harvest Moon' game when you look past the graphics but for the original bokojo, dang they could be doing so much more with the hardware. I get the style for the mineral town remake but for the next mainline game yikes, they look like HD 3DS games. I keep telling myself they are making these budget looking games while they work on a wonderful life remake but I doubt that's the case.
