Re: Talking Point: How Good Are You At Games?

Nintendo_Pone

Terrible, but much better than I used to be, I am happy playing on normal and even dropping down to easy if needs be. Before the switch I just played life sims and Pokemon.
Still struggle to read maps properly, and since I've expanded on the types of games I play my competitive Pokemon skill has tanked hard (I peaked in gen 5) I mostly play JRPGS and Rhythm games these days, I try and think how far I have come and how much I have improved rather than worry how crappy I am compared to other people and since I play single player games anyway, it doesn't matter. I was actually quite good at splatoon for a while, but that skill quickly evaporated once I started fretting about losing my high rank.

I'm stealing @Anti-Matter's list:
Rhythm = Not bad, a big improvement at least
Platformer = shocking but improving
Shooting = god awful except for those couple of years in Splatoon
Fighting = god awful
Life Sim = Amazing
Party = don't play them
Tactic = terrible but they are fun
Puzzle = nope I have 1 brain cell
Racing = Ok if i'm with noobs
JRPG = Ok I can usually overcome things these days
Western RPG = where am I?

Re: Nintendo E3 2021 Direct To Air 15th June

Nintendo_Pone

All my faves have had representation on the switch tbh and some are even getting sequels. I'm not wanting anything in particular I can think of so any suprises will be welcome, maybe a new IP that could take the world by storm like Splatoon did. And for the love of god please stop nagging them for BOTW2. do you want a half baked game/something that is an exact copy of the first one without the magic?

Re: Switch Pro Rumours Intensify As New Retailer Listing Appears Online

Nintendo_Pone

@vio
Yeah I did. I only skimmed the comments before commenting and all I saw were ravenous people wanting it. Really nice to see someone else that realises it will be a stupid amount of money that we don't have for something that is slightly better, not to mention not all games have cloud saves, but yet somehow feel like we are missing out because we don't have money coming out of our sweat. I could tolerate the handheld console revisions but not this, such a middle finger to all that bought one last year with the state of the world as well.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (May 29th)

Nintendo_Pone

Been in the worst gaming rut imaginable ever since I finished YS VIII a couple weeks ago (lots of personal life stuff probably didn't help this) but I was desperately trying to enjoy something; you know the kinda game you turn on and then suddenly it's bedtime but I just haven't found that spark yet despite flicking through my backlog for the 'hook', so i'm playing Moero Crystal H just for the sake if it because its solid, consistent and I loved the previous game. Probably would have enjoyed Digimon Cyber Sleuth if I wasn't a Diginoob and my brain didn't get fried from all the branching paths of digilutions.

Re: Pokémon Trading Card Scalpers Are Causing Some Ugly Scenes Right Now

Nintendo_Pone

The people defending this behaviour. OOF.
I do understand that people need money right now and that's completely understandable. I have sold things that were precious to me at the 'sold listing' price when I needed to, which in theory makes me no better than them really but these guys are not poor or struggling, this was clearly a pre meditated orchestrated thing, not a desperate move to make ends meet. I got to enjoy my childhood so why ruin it for other children? All the kids holding their Pokemon plushies in town when I go out, its wholesome and adorable that a franchise has transcended generations even though it may not be for 'me' anymore with GF/the Pokemon company's recent decisions. Why do us grown men and women who grew up with it think that this behaviour is ok? I would feel bad buying a happy meal at this point, let alone this.

'the figure will save you a little time and hassle by allowing you to transport at will'

Oohh so that's what my ma meant by time is money, I always wondered.

Wonder if this argument works in different contexts?
Imagine getting so used to being tortured that you come to expect it.
Getting to used to it that you've come to accept it however...
well thats a might different now isn't it

Re: Talking Point: When Was The Last Time A Game Cracked Your Top Five?

Nintendo_Pone

Oof this is so hard. Funny that the majority of our top 5's are nostalgia driven, I never even thought about this before tbh this article blew my mind a bit because there have definitely been some amazing games in the Switch era.

I think as random as it is, Dragon Quest Builders was the one to make it into my all time faves, as well as farm together and Littlewood at a push (yeah I know it's weird I loved those games)

Splatoon 2 is one of the most important games of my life because it's the reason I bought a Switch. That's all well and good but before Switch I only owned Nintendo consoles(still do) and would play only Ninty first parties and Harvest Moon/story of seasons and now I feel like I have dabbled and enjoyed most genres because of this little machine. I would not be typing on this site if not for splatty 2 because yeah I was always a Nintendo fan but hell I'm on a whole new level now.

There are some games that I love that I would describe as genre enabling for me (games that I played of a certain genre that I loved so much that actually got me into enjoying that kind of game)

Pokemon mystery dungeon and by extension Moero Chronicle Hyper- dungeon crawlers/1st person dungeon crawlers respectively
Tales of Vesperia- JRPGS both turn based and ARPG's
Hatsune Miku mega mix - gateway drug to rhythm games even though muse dash and groovecoaster are my faves now
Mario and Rabbids- tactical RPGS
Megaquarium- management sim games

Special mention to Pokemon Y in which I had the max amount of hours on the 3DS 999:99 and that was all active play. I have never beaten the record on time spent since, closest thing was New Horizons with 675. Most games by the 50 hour mark I am burning out so yeah that amount of time is crazy for me.

Extra extra mention to the N64 Pokemon games because the memories of playing them with my mum are literally the fondest of my childhood, and new horizons for similar reasons. I actually like new leaf better, but with the events of last year me and my sister teamed up to buy mum a switch and I think that game and the interactions we had within it are the reasons she mentally survived the lockdowns. She is going to buy actual real bug nets to hit eachother with now for old times XD

So I guess top 5 even though the games I have mentioned are just super important to me.

ACNL
Story of seasons (the first one)
Harvest Moon AWL
Pokemon Heartgold/Soulsilver
Dragon Quest builders (1 specifically) but I love 2 as well

Re: Soapbox: Be Happy, This Is The True Golden Age Of Gaming

Nintendo_Pone

Wonderfully written beautiful article.
As someone who sits back and looks at her backlog physical or digital and remembers how lucky she is, How grateful she is to have them, and feeling just raw hype thinking about playing them it's nice to see someone from a similar financial background feel the same way.

I never had holidays but I did get Pokemon games on release day and honestly it's exactly the same in my adult life. If I was asked if I wanted to go abroad every year or just be able to keep up with the releases I'm hyped for, I would pick games every single time.

The fact that this site and others are a thing, the fact that games that are revealed give us so much hope and drive and something to look forward too (or at least me)

The fact that no matter how crappy life gets we can just load up our switch (or whatever inferior console of choice you desire tehe) and just zone out, be someone else, go on an adventure live in the absolute moment.

I know some will call us spoiled and entitled, but I think gaming puts things in perspective, I really don't buy crap I don't need (other more useless less value for money) material things anymore. heck I make my clothes last until they literally need to be binned because to me, I know what my priorities in life are. Well other than food, warmth feeding my cats y'know the boring stuff XD

Yeah this is the golden age, some may call us sad but I wouldn't have my life any other way and if games didn't exist or come as far as they have, well I'd be a different much worse person because of it.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (May 8th)

Nintendo_Pone

I gave up with DQ11 and traded it in because I was just wasn't a fan of certain events late game (act 3) despite adoring the whole thing up to that point.

So with that void that needed filling I finally started Ys VIII with the sequel on the horizon and all. Probably some snap in between as well, I feel like you can just play that on the backburner forever like AC in a way.

Edit: I missed a day on Cozy Grove yesterday and now I feel bad...
welp I guess they are already dead so nothing I could have done for them would have helped too much XD

Re: Soapbox: Hurry Up And Release The Switch Pro Already, My Switch Is Dying

Nintendo_Pone

I was on your side with how much travel and use you get out of it in both your job and leisure until I realised you don't have a case XD
You're on your own there love
Though for the anywhere anytime mentality that Ninty are trying to push, maybe all consoles should come with a case for the tight asses who don't want to shell out the extra £££ for accessories (I don't even have a pro controller so I can kinda feel you there)

Though I did cheat a bit compared to how long you had yours. I had the OG switch until the LGPE edition came out and I swapped it for it. So even though I have owned a switch since Splatoon 2 launch (funny that's what I bought it for) I've only had this one since 2018 and dread to think how many hours I've had on it. It does travel with me (just to my mum's house) and I will admit I had to replace the Joycons just last week because of drift, but other than that, it's pretty much mint.

Re: Great, Now Pokémon Card Scalpers Are Ruining Cereal, Too

Nintendo_Pone

I'm getting more and more ashamed by the day for being a Pokemon fan. This is disgusting and it's all people my age I bet, 90's kids.

We had our fun, there were no horrible 'grown ups' stealing our freebies when we were little were there? now let this generation enjoy it for goodness sake.

Re: Talking Point: Do You Miss Instruction Manuals?

Nintendo_Pone

Yes and no. They are kinda obsolete now. Grown ups (I use the term loosely) are farrr too experienced to consult a manual of all things now THE NERVE! And kids these days would probably rip the plastic cases in to just to get to the game let alone read a manual.

And if every game had a manual how on earth would these limited release companies be able to sell us games with loads of unnecessary junk with them and make us feel like we are getting a good deal? that and full price chonkas of game related art books such as Zelda ones published by dark horse.

That being said I have a giddy excitement when I feel heft to a game, I don't think it has to be a manual, it just has to be stuff. The cards that come with YS 8 and the artbooks that come with the trails games on switch spring to mind. I am a child and I haven't opened them yet because its exciting (don't judge me)

I do relate to that feeling of looking through the book to build up hype for the game you just got though, I used to do that all the time. The original Pokemon game's manuals were beautiful that old art style was just gorgeous.

Tangent incoming:

But I feel that's emulated another way now, at least for me. Watching trailers of games, watching/reading reviews and talking about them, looking at them all sealed on your backlog shelf/sitting on your home screen and generally just taking a moment to appreciate what I have. Like I have such a big backlog but thinking about what I have to play genuinely fills me with happiness thinking about how much i'm looking forward to playing them eventually, heck sometimes If i'm particularly hyped about a game i will leave it for ages on purpose before I get around to playing it just to savour it for longer, I know that's weird but its what keeps me going and gives me things to look forward to.

Back on topic I think there should be 'stuff' in all game cases depending on the game. Maybe not a manual, but art of the characters, some lore some clues to puzzles if that's kind of game like the braille in pokemon RSE, maybe a map if its an open world game, you get the idea.

Dat ham ham manual though, that took me back so many years then.
Now I wanna play ham ham heartbreak again OOF.

Re: Random: Boy Has To Choose Between Nintendo Switch And Pizza, Chooses Pizza

Nintendo_Pone

To those saying this article is pointless I disagree, I think despite the simple and silly topic it opens up a lot of room for debate.

I personally think he DID make the right choice, just because if he chose essentially a takeout (which i'm guessing most moderately wealthy families have at least once a month or so as a treat anyway) over a console then he obviously didn't want it that much to begin with and the parents would have wasted their money.

Even at that age I was more than prepared to skrimp on meals (have toast and spaghetti hoops) if it meant I got the newest Pokemon game on release day, and I have and always will love my food, so kids are very much capable of rational thought. Even into adulthood, i'm fine being a bit short at the end of the month if it means I was able to buy some games, think of me what you will. Adulting is overated.

Re: Story Of Seasons Gets A DLC Trailer To Show Off New Marriage Candidates, New Area

Nintendo_Pone

DLC like this rubs me the wrong way. Buuut Raeger though...

I married Klaus in the OG story of seasons and things were going great, fell hook line and sinker for him, but I just couldn't keep my eyes of that sexy chef. One of the biggest regrets of my life. I treated Klaus so poorly once we were married, he would always say my cooking was bad and he would stay in bed all day with a 'headache' just wanting to be away from me.

(Remember when these games used to be actually good?)

Still have the game sealed until they patch the issues out anyway, so by the time I get to it all the DLC may be out and my finger might slip on the DLC that adds the one that got away

Re: Feature: Pokémon Origin Stories - The Inspiration Behind Your Favourite Pocket Monsters

Nintendo_Pone

Really interesting read, I love reading about where Pokemon inspirations come from. Funny enough despite all the nightmare fuel I feel I finally have some closure regarding the trimmed down Pikachu, although he had so much more personality back then despite the limited animation and the supposed THICC that stopped him being as expressive as they would have liked.

2nd article when?
