Earlier today, while trainers around the globe were trying to claim a shiny version of the mythical Zeraora in Pokémon HOME, there were some other issues playing out in Pokémon Sword and Shield.
Game Freak rolled out a brand new Max Raid Battle event including various Steel-type and Rock-type pocket monsters. Many trainers, as you can imagine, were eager to try it out - but got quite the shock when their games kept crashing.
@JoeMerrick And the raids in this event are buggered too as they call an item which doesn't exist which crashes the game. What a morning already
As noted above, players were encountering issues because the battles contained item 1604 - believed to be an "Armorite-ore variant" for the second DLC pack, Crown Tundra. Obviously, it's not even available yet.
The good news is the Max Raid Battle event was fixed within a few hours and the item has now been removed. Just remember to update the Wild Area News in your game. How have you found the new Max Raid Battle so far? Leave a comment below.

Incredible how much of a shambles these games are. Perhaps the incremental updates are just highlighting the creaky programming skills in GF. I mean, these are the people that accidentally made Psychic types immune to Ghost in the original games despite Ash specifically catching a Ghost type to beat Sabrina in the anime.
There was a problem which they already fixed but sure, let's have another comment section full of hate!
Because no other game has ever had a bug that got fixed. Nothing from studios like Bethesda or Activision or Ubsoft or 2K or Nintendo or anyone else! Bugs that get fixed, unforgivable! GF should be ashamed!
Me, I'm gonna keep enjoying the game like I have been. Looking forward to series 5 VGC starting tomorrow! Already got my new team ready.
Way to defend them still after the shiz they pull off lmao
Well, usually i like to mock these games too since they were very dissapointing, but yeah, that's a thing that doesn't only happen in pokemon SwSh. Many games have already gotten updates which were broken and needed to be fixed and appearently they already fixed the bug, so whats the problem
I feel like GF get a lot of the hate that should be directed at the Pokemon Company. They had a bug and they fixed it. What more do you want?
It took them an entire one or two hours to fix it. My disappointment is immeasurable, and my day is ruined.
I say, as I stare at the screen trying to find another diglett.
Discovering something that doesn't exist
@HydroTendonMan How about some proper testing before they release it?
But, at least they fixed it, some games get bugs introduced that take weeks to fix (looking at you Civ 6)
@HydroTendonMan Like AndyRogan said: Some playtesting before releasing it?
Sure, they fixed it quickly, but one person playtesting for 15 minutes could have spotted this bug before it went live...
@AndyRogan Every game has bugs and especially since the advent of constant updates and DLC some of these issues inevitably make their way into the game. In my experience the publisher has more of a hand in this than the developer because they very much rush the testing along to meet target dates. People are super harsh on GF.
In this case, it's not a bug with the game itself, it was likely a user error in setting up the event.
Entirely possible that someone put in a wrong item ID for the raid rewards pool by mistake.
@Heavyarms55,
Always the same fella, people that do not like these games will never miss a chance to tell us about it.
@HydroTendonMan,
At last some common sense on here for a change, but my feelings are you comment will be simply ignored by the people who do not like this game.
Stuff like this is why people don't trust computer science: it is flimsy at best. Why didn't GF had a check in place to prevent stuff like this from happening? Could it be that they are relying on user testing the game for free rather than paying proper playtesting? More examples of how much GF is greedy imho.
@nessisonett it is not clear if it was a programming mistake or not. First, that crap anime came 1 year after the gen 1 debut, so the game didn’t use it as reference. Also every gen 1 ghost is poison type as well so it wasn’t meant for you to use ghosts against psychic.
On other hand there are npcs talking about ghosts being strong against psychic, so we just don’t know it it was or not intended, and if the error was on the guy who coded or the guy who wrote the npcs lines.
Does anyone else remember that bug that Terry Bogard had with the Ice Climbers back when he was first released? Bugs happened, what matters is how fast they get fixed. This isn't a big deal, so people need to please back off on the GameFreak drama!
@HydroTendonMan The Pokémon Company International, a subsidiary of The Pokémon Company in Japan, manages the property outside of Asia and is responsible for brand management, licensing, marketing, the Pokémon Trading Card Game, the animated TV series, home entertainment, and the official Pokémon website.
They have nothing to do with the mainline games and TPC is a company that Nintendo, Gamefreak and Creatures all 3 own 32% each in. Gamefreak is to blame on this since they wasted their time making Little Town Hero over making sure Pokemon SwSh had some serious upgrades
@johnvboy what common sense? The Pokémon Company International, a subsidiary of The Pokémon Company in Japan, manages the property outside of Asia and is responsible for brand management, licensing, marketing, the Pokémon Trading Card Game, the animated TV series, home entertainment, and the official Pokémon website.
Does it list Video Games as something TPC manages? The answer is no. TPC is owned by Nintendo, Gamefreak and Creatures. The main line games are made by Game Freak so the blame falls on them. They should have worked on making SwSh a better game instead of focusing on trash like Little town hero
@Heavyarms55 I partially agree with you, but let's not pretend they didn't bring this on theirselves.
If the games had had less controversies and lies, and more effort and polish, then certainly people wouldn't be waiting for GF's corpse to float down the river like a bunch of vultures every single time.
People acting like this is the end of the world and harping on GF have never played any other game that receives patch updates and it shows.
@Uzukage,
The games on the whole are fine, and in reality very few people have issues with them, the sales have also been very good for these titles as well, if you and others do not personally like the games then it's up to you.
Most games that are developed to a time frame have patches and additions, with Nintendo first party games we are lucky, as they will delay rather than release games with slight issues, which in the end of the day all this is.
@tsukipon,
Exactly, but lets be honest here, some people will complain about these games no matter what GameFreak do.
@johnvboy the games are fine? So recycled assets, poor animations etc are fine? The FPS drops, online multiplayer, trading system etc are all awful as well. Nintendo needs to drop Gamefreak as the developers and give the series to someone who knows how to program a game and build a complete story. They have more control over the IP then Gamefreak does due to the Pokemon Trademarks being owned by Nintendo themselves. The others also own the copyright but Nintendo has more authority
@Heavyarms55
Bethesda is so bad it's a meme. No one defends Bethesda.
Activision and Ubisoft are extremely hated by the wider gaming community and often seen as the worst devs/publishers around.
2k is average but gets more than it's fair share of criticism.
Nintendo titles rarely have game breaking bugs. I can't think of any from this generation that weren't from Game Freak
The problem is people like you give GameFreak a pass for everything they do. These other companies don't get a pass for their bad behavior but in your mind if anyone points out that SwSh has been a complete crap shoot from start to finish then they're just a mindless hater.
@johnvboy it's so true. They get mad anything something with pokemon shows up now.
@PlaybunnyLucy Nintendo games have plenty glitches.
Like, both original "Mario & Luigi" games on the 3DS had huge glitches that were extremely simple to perform. (Seriously look them up, you can just wiggle your way through walls in those games. It's rather amusing!)
Not to mention there's new glitches being found in Breath of the Wild basically every other week.
Anyhow, this was more of an inconvenience than 'game breaking'.
We're never going to get a glitch as unintentionally cool as Missingno., are we?
@tsukipon,
Which is a shame as we already know they dislike the game, it would be nice for the fans of the game to have a comment section where they were discussing things without the constant complaining that litters every single article.
@Heavyarms55,
Same here, just keep enjoying these games and having fun with them, if other people do not like them it's up to them.
@Eel game breaking means the game ceases to be functional. IE: an event being entirely unable to load in all circumstances. It's kinda odd you bring up glitches in general which will never be 100% removed then acknowledge that I said game breaking in your last sentence.
@PlaybunnyLucy excuse me, but stuff like, for example, letting the user walk through walls and skip important story sequences that could result in the player temporarily or permanently messing their game (like in Mario & Luigi), is also a game breaking bug.
For another example, in Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword, there's points where saving would leave the player forever stuck with no ways to continue. And some of the bugs in BotW can lock up the game too.
@Eel the first thing is not game breaking. The second is not this generation. You're just continually proving that you didn't actually read what I said and you're just fishing for excuses.
@PlaybunnyLucy Huh. Yes. I see.
That was an interesting outburst. Thanks.
Just kinda sad we couldn't talk about glitches a bit more.
@PlaybunnyLucy Because people like you - say things like "SwSh has been a complete crapshoot from the beginning" - is being a hater. Sorry if that offends you or you cannot deal with it.
And if Activision and Ubisoft are so hated, why are tens of millions of people buying their games nonstop? Please. A tiny angry and loud group of haters is all it is.
This "game breaking bug" was fixed 2 hours later. 2 hours later. Oh no! No one gives GF a pass for anything. It's fair to call out legitimate issues with the games, yes the game lags in the wild area, yes some textures are subpar and yes Y-comm is irrational and impractical - nearly everyone who plays the games agrees with these legitimate critiques.
But the games are no where near bad. Millions of us have had an absolute blast with them, doing raid battles, playing VGC competitive, shiny hunting, trading, single battles etc etc.
If you don't like the game, you don't have to play it. But if you're gonna follow the game around and insult it and people who play it - be prepared to be treated in kind.
If you don't like it, leave us alone and go play whatever game you do like - there are literally thousands to choose from!
@jcboyer515
outburst
noun
a sudden release of strong emotion.
What's wrong with it...?
@jcboyer515 yes, that's possible. It would be nice if you helped me improve my English then, so please go ahead and give me more details.
@jcboyer515 I'm being honest, English is not my first language. It would be really nice if you explained why was that word inappropriate. (And what other similar cases have you noticed on my posts)
@jcboyer515 ok that's fair, now don't go outbursting at other people.
@Northwind oh thanks! It means a lot, really.
I knew I was probably being a bit hyperbolic, but the way this person reacted made me feel like I said something offensive or something, so thank you very much for explaining it like that. I will keep this in mind for next time.
Also, your Spanish looks great. It reads very natural.
I'm more concerned with the fact that as a current player of the game, they claimed it's fixed already but I'm still having the issue of all of my three star and higher raids that I've attempted have ended with the system error message booting me from the game.
@Dadpool17 maybe you need to update the wild area? Hopefully that's it.
@jcboyer515 y'know, while I'm aware of many who have their own thoughts on how behind these games are. How on the spot you were when mirroring how even I feel about them. I, too, have Sword. But to introduce us to such dismissed potential, even with the DLC. Did I feel robbed as well. I gave the Isle of Armor a try, but when I ventured and I saw not just the limitations handed to us, but seeing the past trainers including the gym leaders just. .standing around with little words, the disgust won me over from there. How much they've lacked with this game does it even have me hoping that GF sees what the hell has been said, just so maybe something hits; because given what we've put our time into, I'm actually happy that we didn't get any remakes. To see these half-asses come out and disappoint, I'm concerned for whatever remakes they decide on futuristically.
@Uzukage how agreeable these things are in reference to what these games have given us. When seeing the attacks, you're facing letdowns. When seeing the characters, names(Hop?), how expansive they can be with their roles, even the gym leaders. The region not at all living, to me, up to its truth in structure. The reasons lost when wondering why so many buildings were around, and asking yourself what more. It's seriously how lacking they are, and how on point you are I again. Couldn't agree more.
@nessisonett its funny that "psychic was immune to ghost" despite it not being that way.. Also, who are you to speak of development or the rest of you haters?? Like y'all iq is below average and literally dont have yourself a company nor popular franchise game... This includes you too sad kid @Uzukage but before your stupidity gets the best to insult me over development too, i didn't say i was the best nor at the least stoop so low to be a literal fool.
@SokudoFlash This includes you along with the other group of idiots sure its a disappointment in its own way but literally, its like you with your "circle" are burning trash, in a way your income of games is.... Nil. I forgot you guys blank screens for your "games" and by the way did it even at least sell over 1+ million copies???
@Heavyarms55 sadly they cant make their own games so they criticize the company's that sould over a million while the haters sold... Oh god 0. @Eel the games has glitches because some people tend to take advantage such as the 5 iv ditto thing, competitive battle, etc. but how does mario even relate to the topic? Like literally its from the same company sure and i understand that developers rush things, which leads to the game being "trash", but straight to the main point; do you have a game that sould over a million copies, programmed it yourself, and also created the extensions/dlc to it? If so, please tell me how exactly you are better than the company. Just a few simple questions like the ones above
@LawlBoi Despite it not being that way? Go out and buy a copy of Red or Blue and then tell me again that Psychic isn’t immune to Ghost because it literally is.
@LawlBoi lmao imagine a complete idiot insulting others intelligence and using y'all, i, etc. Stay salty but a lot of the community agree that SwSh was a mess. Now stop sucking game freak like a push pop and actually educate yourself
@Heavyarms55 I agree. The game has been out for almost a year and for the most part it's a solid game. Anything "game breaking" gets fixed in a matter of hours which is more than I can say for some AAA devs... EA, Activision, Bethesda... This isn't like Mass Effect Andromeda which is still a very broken game despite being out on the market for way longer.
GameFreak, I feel has not gotten enough praise for how much better Isle of Armor has been compared to the main game. It looks better, lags less, and is just more fun to goof around in. One little coding mistake that could happen to anyone that they fixed in a matter of hours won't hamper my overall enjoyment of a fantastic piece of content.
@jcboyer515 I dunno, seems like something definitely bursted overnight in this thread.
Hopefully it was just emotions and not a vein or vessel.
@LawlBoi being called whatever is fine, as it's only among the points proven of having a indenial state of mind. Those who strongly 'trash' the game and so on which I see is of preference that many call what's done, I'll have to disagree with. I can't call this trashing the game if you simply see potential for what holes you're clearly seeing, as it is a serious surprise that you don't yourself. I'm willing to truly say also, that today's modified Pokémon games with the storytelling has, to me, bested what Sword and Shield could have given us. It's simply where capabilities weren't met, and more so can I call it frustration too.
@Uzukage I'm the "idiot" over grammar which wasnt related to the topic? Also insult me fix yours too its literally a 9 year olds work right there. By the way, nice dodging how I mention your development of a "game" which is probs a tissue. @SokudoFlash Even if it had holes and problems in its programming, release, details, storyline, etc. its still a game that multiple people bought, in which they should've known the consequences of purchasing any game and a common thing to know in life if its worthy to buy it or not, and majority of the time is idiots that cant make a game. This is what I referred you to one of those people but as you have replied you have shown me that you are highly educated than the apes that cannot see this in another perspective or have an influence to deliver your point across.
@jcboyer515 Oh wow... so scared of the failure that was targeted earlier to suck off the assaultant. I literally can't wait for your "outburst". @Eel show me your "outburst" too, please. I mean the only vocabulary word you use is "outburst" but so condescending over a simple reply, you still got your primitive brain in you? Gonna dodge this again with his outburst just like the one question from earlier, its so obvious. @nessisonett Dear god... "not being that way" I checked sites bro and all statistics say they can literally inflict damage to eachother lmao. Is it the correct sites I looked into? well they are all commonly saying the same thing with dragon being the last typing of pokemon in generation 1. How exactly am I in the wrong to say that in the old days psychic was **not** immune to ghost?
@LawlBoi please stop that
I'm not sure what's up with you, or why did you think I was bashing these games, but this is not the place for this kind of behavior.
@LawlBoi much appreciated to be given such. It's simply facing the embryonic when you're questioning why, on that personal level, that even if it's by choice? How much Sword and Shield feels. .undeveloped you could say? While it's fun and not at all am I knocking the fans who were excited for this, as I was among that list, like you also. But also in likeness to how I define the sensible, how much the game lacks can give many a thought of eventual regret. Again. What the DLC gave us, many agree with how meager its entry was. An example being the core characters just. .standing there.
@Heavyarms55,
So true, the complainers always state they are simply dismissed by many on here, who just brush off their concerns and label them haters, and then go on to ignore and dismiss anyone who actually like the games and does not agree with them.
They say the defenders are rude in some of their posts while at the same time posting comments like "SwSh has been a complete crapshoot from the beginning", which is just intended to rile people up, as if they wanted a civil discussion on the subject they would not begin with a comment like that, of course they then are surprised when the games defenders react to this.
@johnvboy you realize you guys have been nothing but dismissive from the start before I ever arrived?
It's amazing how you guys can act like this to people then try and claim everyone else started it. I treated you how you treated everyone else. Stop pretending you're the good guy.
@PlaybunnyLucy,
Never claimed to be a good guy, whatever that means in a comment section, and I have only ever responded to negative comments which I do not personally agree with, I have never stated that people do not have a right to complain, or their issues do not have any validity on a personal level.
My issues have always been they always post controversial comments intended to cause a reaction, then get surprised when people react to them in a less than positive way, also a lot of the complainers post in a way that suggests everybody agrees with them, when in fact it is a very vocal internet minority that does not like these games.
@johnvboy you should probably reread what I replied to because you cut out over half of your own statement to make this argument.
I don't interact with dishonest people so until you actually address what you've said instead of pretending it doesn't exist, I'm just writing you off as an instigator.
@PlaybunnyLucy,
I read what you posted and understood what you were getting at, you feel I and others have dismissed concerns raised by people on the various comment sections of the Pokemon sword and shield articles, but in fact all I have done is state facts, if these statements do not support your views of these games then I can't help that.
As for instigation as you put it, there would be no need for me or others to defend something if it was not attacked in the first place.
@johnvboy that is not what I said showing you did not understand it. I pointed out that numerous comments as soon as this article was posted were PREMPTIVELY fighting back against any and all criticism with complete strawmen and that your characterization of me coming in AFTER all this as being unreasonable is moronic at best and an outright lie at worst.
This is a fight you and yours start every single time before anyone has a chance to speak yet you constantly blame everyone else for it. It's sad.
@PlaybunnyLucy,
I wondered when you would bring out the old strawmen argument, always a good one when you own argument is failing.
And I also fail to see how anybody agreeing with you points or not makes any difference to them, I am sure you and others are not likely to change your minds.
As for calling people moronic, sad and liars tends to suggest you are not as welcoming to an open debate about this as you seem to be indicating.
@johnvboy continually dodging the point while accusing others of not being open to debate. Absolutely pathetic. I'm sorry that a description of your bad behavior makes you think that everyone but you is in the wrong but if that's your reaction to people constantly pointing out how innaproprite you are then there's no reason to ever speak with you. Ignored.
@PlaybunnyLucy excuse me for meddling, but I figure I may as well explain my other post.
The way you replied to me, after mentioning a few examples of bugs in games that could cause game breaking scenarios (Mario and Luigi, Zelda), admittedly as a tangent, because I find the topic enjoyable, and also because this bug is a bit of a special case (being a human error in a live service), it felt off to me.
Maybe it wasn't your intention, but to me your reaction felt like "I decide what's game breaking, now shut up". This was unreasonable to me.
I do apologize for retaliating, but it was a bit of a knee jerk reaction.
@PlaybunnyLucy,
I could say exactly the same of you and the complainers, all the time making out they are the innocent parties in all this, by simply pointing out these games are bad, and are only trying to educate the sad deluded people on here that actually like these games.
I thought you were only acting like an idiot, now I know I was wrong.
@Eel,
I would not apologize in the slightest, your knee jerk reaction was probably justified as these guys always claim people do not take their concerns seriously and dismiss them, while at the same time ignoring people with an alternative point of view.
It would not be so bad if it was just the Pokemon articles that were on the games reveal and leading up to it's release and review, bit on every single article about the DLC, which by the way should really just be the people enjoying the games by that point, and actually wanting to discuss the new content, I mean if you have not bought the games by that point and still dislike them and the DLC, whats the point of still commenting with your complaints?, if it's not just to wind up those happy with these titles and excited for te DLC.
@Eel it's not that "I decide what's game breaking" it's that "game breaking" has a meaning already. If game breaking means "literally any bug in a game" then what's the point of calling it a "game breaking" bug?
You're looking at something with a qualifying statement and saying that the qualifier has no meaning at all and that's an issue.
@PlaybunnyLucy you see, that's the thing, for a game to have a game breaking scenario, it doesn't even need to involve a bug. In the case of game breaking bugs, game crashes are not the only kind.
This is what I was trying to talk about.
In the case of the modern Nintendo games, most "game breaking" glitches are usually random crashes. Some of them also have exploits and glitches that can end with the user being unable to progress (softlocks), though these are less and less common now.
The worst type would probably be save data corruption glitches, which as far as I know is not common at all on the switch, thankfully.
@Eel you're trying to weasel out of what I said. I was extremely clear, concise and SPECIFIC in what I said so your comment doesn't mean anything. I intentionally laid out my points in a way where you guys could not twist them which is why I'm being so hostile when you guys consistently cut out words, phrases and sometimes multiple sentences of mine in order to a argue with me.
@PlaybunnyLucy the only one arguing and twisting here is you tbh.
No amount of cherry picking, manipulating, and strawmanning will improve your point. So I'd suggest stopping.
@Eel where have I manipulated anything, strawmanned anything and cherry picked anything? Because mindlessly claiming fallacies without evidence and without additional purpose is literally a fallacy in and of itself.
I was polite with you at the start but it's clear you're just here to lie your ass off and hope no one notices but the only one agreeing with you at this point is someone who openly admits they only comment to attack people.
@PlaybunnyLucy,
I know you like to play the victim in all this, and claim people have messed with your posts to argue with you, but it's simply not true.
If your first comment had actually just bean a reasonable argument to why you do not like these games,and did not include purposely inflammatory comments like " SwSh has been a complete crap shoot from start to finish then they're just a mindless hater. ", then I am sure you would not be arguing with people on here in the first place.
I assume from your last comment that it's myself who only comments to attack people, which seems a very strong stance to what amounts to simply disagreement on an internet comment section.
@Eel Please stop with your outburst already. I mean its sad that you put your descriptive details on someone else.
Its not being fun compared to you now, clown.
Kinda shocking how someone's first language "isn't" english but speaks it fluently...
@LawlBoi Don't attack other users please. It is very common for people to be fluent in a second, or even third language.
Please can we calm down this comment section. If you feel a user is insulting you or another member, please use the report button.
@Chibi_Man true, but that was more niche, it only occured with them in a specific manner. I'm not saying Game Freak deserves ALL the hate they get, but this glitch affected tons of people, possibly in the thousands
