The box looks like the NES console while the 3DS itself just has a controller slapped on the front. WHY. They should have designed it just like the NES-styled GBA SP. I dig the red buttons though.
As I was typing this, IxC posted essentially the same thing, but I think it's worth stating twice in a row.
I'm surprised the review didn't mention my biggest complaint with this game. Nearly every enemy has some type of shield. I don't expect to mow through every single enemy in the game completely mindlessly, but the books -when they're actually there- are a chore to fight through.
The hell? I thought SF2010 was coming to the Wii U VC. Aw, man. If they're not gonna implement cross-buy, they could at least just have the courtesy to do a dual release.
@Kasplat So you're saying that Jumpman is a whole different mustachioed man in a cap and overalls? If we're going to split hairs, then DK shouldn't show up until 1994, since he's the current DK from DKC.
Sweet! SF2010 will complete the Capcom page on my Wii U menu!
MM1-6, MMX1-3, FF2-3, SF2T, Duck Tales, and D&D, in case anyone was wondering. Once Gargoyle's Quest II and Demon's Crest are available, I'll have to kick the two non-VC games out.
I can't wait for Yves' inevitable "SEE? We told you Wii U owners don't buy mature games!" when W_D tanks. It'll have nothing to do with the fact that everybody bought it for every other system imaginable and found out that it was all hype. I don't know anyone who's played it who didn't find it to be a huge letdown. Which is a shame, since I wanted to try it, but I already bought a ticket to the Ubi hype train before. (Zombi U)
If Ubisoft crafted games half as well as they concoct their self-fulfilling prophecies on Wii U owners' buying habits, they wouldn't have to release these statements.
@ThomasBW84 This design is in full violation of 'less is more.' It doesn't need the character lineup and the title; they should have just picked one. Honestly, I would have preferred a big Smash logo. I was waiting until a Smash edition XL was announced before upgrading, but now I think I'm going to hunt down a Zelda edition.
I imported Last Window. It's the only video game I ever gave my girlfriend as a gift. (Its the only one she'd want as a gift.) I'm still bummed that I'll never see a release of Another Code R in the States, though.
@Mega719 Apparently the Saturn is notoriously difficult to emulate, hence the appearance of the PS1 version of MM8 on the Anniversary Collection. It's a shame, too, as the Saturn version has more content, like the optional Cut Man and Wood Man fights (no weapons though), and the fan design galleries.
This video made me realize how useful the Chaos Orb actually is. That thing tears through bosses! Also, I like how the VO never calls the Phase Locket by its proper name.
Oh, man! This is some good news! Looking forward to rounding out my MM collection, as well as GQII, DC, SF2010, and MFF. Geez, I'll have a whole page on my Wii U menu devoted to classic Capcom before the year is over!
I never played the sequels, but the original DKL always seemed to me like a case of "coulda" over "shoulda." The pre-rendered graphics lose quite a bit when your reduce them to four colors from the SNES' 256. Combine that with a tiny screen, and you've got a formula for running into Kremlings. The 8-bit renditions of the tunes were great, though.
@Spoony_Tech The Earthworm Jim music is pretty subjective. I prefer the music in the SNES version. The backgrounds looked nicer too because of the larger color palette. Of course, the Gen/MD version has better animation and an extra stage.
People who are clamoring for another "Year of ___" have completely missed the point. Luigi was almost always in the background, whether he was relegated to Player 2 in Super Mario Bros or off having (possibly more interesting) adventures in Thousand Year Door. Hell, even when he was brought to the forefront, he was either shown as a coward (Luigi's Mansion), a coward (Superstar Saga), or a coward (partners in Time). If anyone deserved some spotlight time after 30 years, it was Luigi.
Other Nintendo characters don't need their own year; they just need more games.
@ungibbed Yeah, man! The NA SNES was so bulky. Thing looks like a Buick. Even the redesign that come out at the end of the SNES' life didn't look like the Japanese and PAL consoles.
I'm glad they made their goal. This has been a painful Mickstarter to watch, mostly because I just don't have the spare cash to donate to this kind of thing. If I did, I'd throw that $350 at them to put my art in the game. But there's just one little detail, WayForward: artists don't have money. That said, who'd like to donate $350 to put MY art in 1/2 Genie Hero?
I managed to do the first Coin Rush DLC course in NSMB2 without picking up a single coin. Don't think I have the patience to go through an entire game like that.
@SteveW I'm actually with you on this, Steve. I think there's nothing more immersion-breaking than the whizz-whizz of a motor over the sounds in a game. (Yes, some of us have to have the volume low enough to be able to hear a rumble pak once in awhile.)
I remember getting the promotional VHS in the mail telling me all about the Rumble Pak. It had some embarrassing skits featuring a pair of witless spies from Sony and Sega trying to get the dirt on Starfox 64.
I also got a promo VHS for Banjo-Kazooie, narrated by Jon Lovitz. I wish I still had those stupid things. Some collector would love to have them, I'm sure.
@snoox It's pretty much a traditional JRPG. All of the M&L games have had turn-based battles, leveling, stats, items, towns with shops and NPCs, etc. Of course, all of that is mixed with platform ing elements because it's the Mario Bros.
The character design in the M&L series has so much personality! It's touches like this that are sadly missing from the main series. The platform games are still fun, but aesthetically they're just so safe and sterile. Alpha Dream really understands that Mario, Luigi, et al are essentially cartoon characters and treats them as such.
I enjoyed NSLU, but I think it works better as a companion piece to NSMBU. NSLU is like a Hard Mode/Rush version of the original game, and it's better appreciated when you've played the other levels. By itself it would just seem like a bunch of really short (but challenging) stages.
@kimaster That's only a sampling, though. A full-length release with all the songs the orchestra performs would be amazing. Live, in-studio, doesn't matter. The disc with Skyward Sword left me craving more.

"ADDICTIVE GAMEPLAY!!"
(Cut to generic rocker chick [red] repeating a single swing)
I'm all for arcade brawlers, but this looks awful. Those jerky walk cycles, the samey characters, no co-op, and worst of all, the band has no drummer!
