Re: Review: Mega Man X3 (Wii U eShop / Super Nintendo)

Mr-DNA

I'm surprised the review didn't mention my biggest complaint with this game. Nearly every enemy has some type of shield. I don't expect to mow through every single enemy in the game completely mindlessly, but the books -when they're actually there- are a chore to fight through.

Re: Watch Dogs Will be the Only "Mature" Ubisoft Game on Wii U in Upcoming Lineup

Mr-DNA

I can't wait for Yves' inevitable "SEE? We told you Wii U owners don't buy mature games!" when W_D tanks. It'll have nothing to do with the fact that everybody bought it for every other system imaginable and found out that it was all hype. I don't know anyone who's played it who didn't find it to be a huge letdown. Which is a shame, since I wanted to try it, but I already bought a ticket to the Ubi hype train before. (Zombi U)

If Ubisoft crafted games half as well as they concoct their self-fulfilling prophecies on Wii U owners' buying habits, they wouldn't have to release these statements.

Re: Beautiful Limited Edition Super Smash Bros. 3DS XL Console Bundle Revealed

Mr-DNA

@ThomasBW84
This design is in full violation of 'less is more.' It doesn't need the character lineup and the title; they should have just picked one. Honestly, I would have preferred a big Smash logo. I was waiting until a Smash edition XL was announced before upgrading, but now I think I'm going to hunt down a Zelda edition.

Re: Capcom's Mega Man 7 Is Dashing To The Wii U eShop

Mr-DNA

@Mega719
Apparently the Saturn is notoriously difficult to emulate, hence the appearance of the PS1 version of MM8 on the Anniversary Collection. It's a shame, too, as the Saturn version has more content, like the optional Cut Man and Wood Man fights (no weapons though), and the fan design galleries.

Re: Game Boy Classic Donkey Kong Land Is Coming To The Japanese 3DS Virtual Console

Mr-DNA

I never played the sequels, but the original DKL always seemed to me like a case of "coulda" over "shoulda." The pre-rendered graphics lose quite a bit when your reduce them to four colors from the SNES' 256. Combine that with a tiny screen, and you've got a formula for running into Kremlings. The 8-bit renditions of the tunes were great, though.

Re: The Year of Luigi Officially Ends on 18th March

Mr-DNA

People who are clamoring for another "Year of ___" have completely missed the point. Luigi was almost always in the background, whether he was relegated to Player 2 in Super Mario Bros or off having (possibly more interesting) adventures in Thousand Year Door. Hell, even when he was brought to the forefront, he was either shown as a coward (Luigi's Mansion), a coward (Superstar Saga), or a coward (partners in Time). If anyone deserved some spotlight time after 30 years, it was Luigi.

Other Nintendo characters don't need their own year; they just need more games.

Re: Shantae: Half-Genie Hero Hits Funding Target to Confirm Release

Mr-DNA

I'm glad they made their goal. This has been a painful Mickstarter to watch, mostly because I just don't have the spare cash to donate to this kind of thing. If I did, I'd throw that $350 at them to put my art in the game. But there's just one little detail, WayForward: artists don't have money. That said, who'd like to donate $350 to put MY art in 1/2 Genie Hero?

I'm kidding, of course.

No I'm not.

Re: Feature: Taking A Look Back At The Nintendo 64 Rumble Pak

Mr-DNA

I remember getting the promotional VHS in the mail telling me all about the Rumble Pak. It had some embarrassing skits featuring a pair of witless spies from Sony and Sega trying to get the dirt on Starfox 64.

I also got a promo VHS for Banjo-Kazooie, narrated by Jon Lovitz. I wish I still had those stupid things. Some collector would love to have them, I'm sure.

Re: Video: This Mario & Luigi Trailer is the Stuff Dreams Are Made Of

Mr-DNA

The character design in the M&L series has so much personality! It's touches like this that are sadly missing from the main series. The platform games are still fun, but aesthetically they're just so safe and sterile. Alpha Dream really understands that Mario, Luigi, et al are essentially cartoon characters and treats them as such.

Re: Watch the Japanese Pikmin 3 Nintendo Direct - Live!

Mr-DNA

@SyntheticPerson

I enjoyed NSLU, but I think it works better as a companion piece to NSMBU. NSLU is like a Hard Mode/Rush version of the original game, and it's better appreciated when you've played the other levels. By itself it would just seem like a bunch of really short (but challenging) stages.
