Capcom lifted the floodgates on its Virtual Console lineup through its Unity blog today, announcing 18 retro titles on their way to North America and/or Europe by the end of the year. A few titles anticipated for later release were also revealed.
Mega Man makes up the metal bulk of the coming games. Mega Man 5 and Mega Man 6 will round out the NES series on Wii U, while Mega Man 7 and Mega man X3 will teleport in from the SNES. The Wii U Virtual Console will also see the GBA titles Mega Man Zero, Mega Man Battle Network, and Mega Man Battle Chip Challenge.
European fans who weren't in on the six Game Boy titles released across the Atlantic during "Mega May" are now expected to receive them on the 3DS Virtual Console this August. That includes Mega Man II-V as well as the two Mega Man Xtreme installments.
While the Blue Bomber is prominent, some red is also making an appearance. SNES cult classic Demon's Crest will hit the Wii U on both sides of the pond, while its NES predecessor, Gargoyle's Quest II, will land on both the Wii U and 3DS. The classic RPG Breath of Fire, brawler Mighty Final Fight, and action game Street Fighter 2010 round out the expected 2014 offerings.
Mega Man Zero 2, Mega Man Battle Network 2, and Mega Man Battle Network 3 are expected in the future, but do not have any firm release windows as of yet.

Cool
I really need to get into Mega Man... looks like a great time to start!
Gargoyle's Quest II has me the most excited.
It would be great if they re-released Mega Man 9 and Mega Man 10 in the eShop as well!!!!
FINALLY my long-awaited MMBN series is coming! This can't come soon enough! Hopefully we hear more about DS VC tomorrow, giving them a chance to show off Star Force at their Wednesday night event.
yeah, that's probably hoping for too much. The E3 bear doesn't help greedy kids like me.
Yes. Yes. yes. yes. yes.
I still want the Anniversary Collection, but... BATTLE NETWORK! YES!
X3!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Man, Thank you Capcom, you FINALLY came to your senses!
I LOVE Mega Man 7. Woo!
It will be nice to give X3 a proper spin. I've only ever played that on the Anniversary Collection.
I've played most of those Mega Man games. MM6 and MMZero are particularly good.
YESSSSSS!!!!
I was hoping Megaman Battle Network 2 was coming to Virtual Console.
Meh.
Yes yes YES! Was honestly not that much a fan of Demons Quest but love Gargoyles Quest 1 and 2 so much!
Dang, Capcom is supporting the VC service better than Nintendo itself. There are so many of these I was never able to get, so I'm excited about VC for a change!
I wish my other fav 3rd parties of the past, Konami & Square Enix, would open a floodgate of NES, SNES, GB, and GBA games to VC. They barely acknowledge that anything but smartphone gaming exists these days.
If only Capcom could give us Strider HD and Ultra Street Fighter IV, but I'll acknowledge that they at least remember Nintendo gamers, which is a rarity these days (even 3DS 3rd party support is tepid right now).
I'd like to think this marks a real revival of Virtual Console, and inspires Nintendo to more VC support!
this is amazing! Hoping for Mega Man & Bass eventually as well.
I almost fell out of my chair when I saw Demon's Crest. Must get a Wii U
The original Breath of Fire? Never thought I'd see the day
Neato! Can't say that Might Final Fight or Street Fighter 2010 have aged all that well but cool nonetheless.
YESSSS DEMONSSS CREST!!!! ive always wanted to play it but never could find it cheap.
BoF! Hellz yahh!!!
yes gargoyles quest 2 i was worried it would only be on wii u
It would be nice to see some of their arcade games too. And not repeats of the wii Vc arcade games.
love how the 3ds cant handle BREATH OF FIRE but the vita can.
nintendo always drops the ball and allowing sony to make sure Sony is the king of RPGS
Demon Crest finally after mine was stolen. I can hopefully beat the game now.
Wow Demon's Crest, Mega Man X3, Mighty Final Fight, the first Breath of Fire, Mega Man 7, Street Fighter 2010? Capcom is on a roll, my wallet will be very busy soon.
So Square-Enix and Capcom have finally reached an agreement and let Capcom take rein of the first Breath of Fire's license (as back in the '90s it was released in America by Square)? Awesome!
Could care less for Mega Man VII (honestly didn't like this one), though I'm glad that Mega Man X3 is being rereleased in its original 16-bit glory (this one, on the other hand, I actually like). Demon's Crest is a game I would be willing to play (when it comes, and when I get the points).
@WanderFan91 Actually the first Breath of Fire game for SNES had always being own by Capcom, Capcom just so happen to let Squaresoft localize it for NA at the time probably due to Capcom's busy work on their many other games.
I have most of those Mega Man games already on PS2. I will pick up that Mighty Final Fight game though. I want Captain Commando, the arcade verison not the SNES version.
I really want to try out the Mega Man series. It's a good thing Nintendo and Capcom are expanding the Mega Man library from so many vintage Nintendo consoles on Wii U and 3DS! Now if only SEGA can release all the classic Sonic games in 3D on the 3DS I really enjoyed 3D Sonic and I really want to play the others too.
@retro_player_22 - this was Capcom's first RPG, and since they weren't experienced localizing lots of dialogue at the time, they had to enlist the help of Ted Woolsey, a SquareSoft employee. It'd be understandable if there was an issue that prevented it from being rereleased (the Game Boy Advance version was made and released by Capcom in America and Europe for the first time). If they've always owned the first Breath of Fire (Westwise, there's no doubt they have full control of it in Japan), then what excuse do they have for nixing the first Breath of Fire in favor of Breath of Fire II back in the time of the Nintendo Wii Virtual Console in the West; the fact that the second game wasn't involved in any way by Square and solely exclusively by Capcom, so they get a free pass there? That's just unfair negligence if that's the case, in the same way that ActRaiser always gets a rerelease while the other five Quintet/Enix games don't receive the same treatment and remain 16-bit exclusive (which should not be the case, the license holders for Quintet are wasting their opportunity by not introducing current gamers to the Gaia trilogy, ActRaiser 2, and Robotrek).
To each their own
@FilmerNgameR Should give it a try the series is amazing.
I see they're getting all the fluff announcements out for the major bombshells.
Looks like ill be getting a few games on that list
@ModestFan93 I'll first start with the first Mega Man on 3DS once I get the money.
I gave my Mega Man Zero Collection to my brother, so I'm looking forward to getting that one back.
Breathe of fire hec yeah, demon crest yes please, did you say battle networks yummy.
Demons Crest and Gargoyles Quest II, day one downloads for me. Thank you Capcom.
B-B-B-Battle Network!? I didn't think I'd see Capcom give that particular franchise any love any time soon!
Mega Man 7, X3, and Zero are all top notch. Can't wait.
Now if only we could get the Saturn on the VC so we could get 8 and X4...
Er, well, never mind. Just found Mega Man Zero Collection for DS on Amazon.
Capcom seems to be more supportive and excited about the VC than other other publisher! Including Nintendo.
@Discipledoctor agreed, and if Gamecube games do come, battle network transmission would be welcome. Man capcom is showing some SERIOUS megaman love. Seriously has me rethinking about buying all these again, just show they'll be nicely displayed on my wii-u menu.
Booya for Mega Man 7 and Demon's Crest!
Still hoping Nintendo does that unified account thing. Would be nice to play some of these on both systems for one price.
Is Breath of Fire the GBA version or SNES version?
@craigmoss19 SNES
I wouldn't be surprised if the GBA version came down the road, though.
YES! BN SERIES IS COMING! I ALWAYS DREAMED OF THIS DAY! 8D Now, hurry up GameCube VC for Battle Network Transmission and DS VC for Starforce! 8D
veddy veddy nice!
Lol and Street Fighter 2010, AVGN did a great scathing review of that one.
Looking forward to Mighty Final Fight, I never played it.
Oh, man! This is some good news! Looking forward to rounding out my MM collection, as well as GQII, DC, SF2010, and MFF. Geez, I'll have a whole page on my Wii U menu devoted to classic Capcom before the year is over!
Don't want any of those games.
Konami, where's Contra???
Mighty Final Fight is instant buy for me.
X3 and Megaman 7! Great success!
Dang! The Wii U and the eShop games is cheaper than buying loose Mega Man 7, Mega Man X3, and Demon's Crest SNES. Carts. The Wii U seriously is the best deal going right now.
Though I can STILL think of other Capcom games I'd rather see, Mega Man X3, Breath Of Fire, Demon's Quest II and Demon's Crest sound like a great starting lineup. Let's keep this going Capcom!
I've almost beaten Gargoyle's Quest, so I'll be ready to pick up it's sequels.
Gargoyle's Quest II, Demon's Crest, Mega Man 7, X3, Zero,
Battle Network... This is just great!!
You know, it's too bad we'll never get Mega Man 8...
I LOVE YOU, CAPCOM. YOU MAY REFUSE TO MAKE NEW MEGA MAN GAMES, BUT I LOVE YOU.
Ahem...I'll be getting Mega Man 5, 6, 7, and X3 (I have the PS version on X collection, but I want the SNES version and in HD too!) I'll also get all the Zero games on Wii U when they release! I love the Zero series!
@Philip_J_Reed Same here! Personally, I think the SNES version of X3 sounds way better. Can't wait to actually play it as I only have the anniversary collection version like you do! You'd better be ready to review some more Mega Man games! But I'm sure you're always ready...
Still, it seems odd that they didn't release these Mega Man games during Mega May. Well, I'm not complaining! I'm happy because I figured Mega May would be the last we'd see of Mega Man for like the next decade.
@WaveBoy
I can't speak for the gameplay, but Mega Man X6 and X8 have incredible soundtracks!
@WaveBoy If you ignore the control chips in X3 and just go for the ultimate gear it takes out a lot of the extra stuff nobody cares about. Also, Zero can be used to get you a very important tool if you use him in the right place.
X3's a great game once you get used to it.
Say what you will about Capcom(I know I have) but their VC output has been outstanding for both the Wii and 3DS
This is amazing news! I have waited for so long to play Mega Man 6,7 and X3 and now they are finally coming to the VC! I am also very excited for Demon's Crest, Gargoyle's Quest II and Breath of Fire! Keep the games coming Capcom!
Finally Battle Network gets a digital release!
Mega Man Zero is also fantastic news.
X3 & Battle Network!!!! I've been hoping these games would b release on wii u for over a year especially battle network. The gamepad is perfect for it!!
I'm pretty sure we had the Mega Man games in Europe on 3DS? Are they on discount or something?
Wooo hoooo! I can finally buy all Megamans on my Wii U. My wallet is ready!
Now I wish Retro Studios will make a Megaman Prime game (ala Metroid Prime Trilogy).
Good news!
@Tsurii897,
Its a strange platforming spin-off, that's very hard! The AVGN made a episode about it. You can look it up on youtube.
@TLatshaw
Should the Breath of Fire link direct us to the demons crest page?
@Donjwolf
And Castlevania 3 here on EU. In still waiting for it!
Oi, Capcom! Why you aren't putting ALL the NES VC titles onto both consoles? I want to play Mighty Final Fight on my 3DS!
@Noelemahc But that is exactly what they are doing. Just follow the link in the news.
This is great news, indeed. Despite owning a copy of Mega Man 7, I may get it anyway so I can have it in another form. I haven't played the SNES version of X3 much, so I'll definitely be getting that. I do like the music in the PS1 port better, though.
Now we just have to wait for Mega Man & Bass on GBA, but I'd much rather have the Super Famicom version. I'll still get the GBA version, of course.
@KeeperBvK Ah, thanks, the text list is wrong, then, as it marks Mighty FF and SF2010 for WiiU only.
Before anyone mentions about it, i wonder if the lack of Battle Network 4/5/6 might have been because of the Boktai IP, i mean Inafune might have been friends with Kojima, but Konami could be a bit fussy about Django's inclusion...barring that they haven't simply planned VC games that far yet.
Either that, or they're just aiming for halfway points before deciding on whatever else, like they planned for Battle Network up to 3 and Zero to 2. bit of a shame that the 3DS isn't getting any GBA games besides the Ambassador ones, just because part of MMBN was the battling and trading.
Pretty sure there's some parts of sidequests that are impossible unless you have opposite chips.
Demons crest & mega man 7 are day one downloads for me!! Wish other 3rd parties would jump on the wii u vc train! SEGA where are you???
So cool!!!
Nice. Hopefully other companies start supporting both VCs in the west.
So awesome! Mega man was one of my favorite games back in the day but never got to play anything but mega man 3 for NEW, mega man x for SNES, and mega man zero for GBA.
X2 on Wii U was a blast, as was mega man 2. Sweet!
@Noelemahc You're most welcome.
Well... And now something aside from Mega Man, please.
YAY Demon's Crest
Yeah, it 'd be great if Mega Man in SMash Bros is the beginning of a beautiful friendship, in which Retro IS finally enabled to bring that Mega Man (Prime style) game to Wii U retail! Maverick Hunters, was it not? I imported Anniversary-, X-, and Zero collection, and own a few MM games on the side, so I'm fine for OLD Mega Man games. My collection needs a NEW one, a BIG one.
As pleased as I am that Capcom is bringing all these titles to the VC, it's very much just cashing in on a series that it can not be bothered to continue with, which is pretty disappointing.
What they should do is add CPS1 and CPS2 to VC Arcade whereas Capcom's Arcade output is pure gold. The SNES output is of very indifferent quality for the most part.
Megaman 2/3
Megaman X
Demon's Crest
(Even Super Ghouls n Ghosts they have the fixed version they used in the collections.)
X4 is good but the Saturn version is the best so the one I am interested in. (And it is less than the Gamecube collection cost me for the Japanese one)
Rather have the content of the 2 PSP Collections. (Separately or together.)
I would really prefer these SNES/GBA titles on the handheld instead.
I prefer old Capcom than current Capcom, so I am happy with this. I want to try Megaman Zero and BN for the first time.
They should put 3rd Strike on the VC. That would be awesome. Yes I know it didn't come out on Nintendo consoles, but I can dream!
When I saw Battle Network, I was super excited! Then I read on and figured out it's only for WiiU. :-/
DEMON'S QUEST! With a Wii U and 3DS all the FIREBRAND is here!
@sinalefa You can get the whole Megaman Zero Collection for not much more than just one on the Wii U VC.
Pro tip: don't get Battle Chip Challenge, it's just RNG duels with no story.
@Rafie
It would be cool to have 3rd Stike on VC, but I don't see that happing. . Better off getting it on PS3 or 360.
Sorry, CAPCOM, but unless 3DS gets GBA or SNES support, I won't be buying anything on your NA list ... well, except for Gargoyle's Quest II.
rare downloads begins soon...
I'm pretty sure we had the Mega Man games in Europe on 3DS? Are they on discount or something?
The NES games are available but the GB games are not.
Viewtiful joe ?
@outburst "Now I wish Retro Studios will make a Megaman Prime game (ala Metroid Prime Trilogy)."
Actually...Retro studios was going to. It got cancelled.
https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2013/04/the_story_of_an_abandoned_mega_man_fps_maverick_hunter_emerges
@Giygas_95
Wow thanks. I didn't know that. Why???
@sinalefa If you want to try Mega Man Zero, I would recommend this:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003FBL86Q/ref=s9_psimh_gw_p63_d7_i1?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=center-2&pf_rd_r=1B8ANATK1V0FV9NT7SR0&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=1688200382&pf_rd_i=507846
And it's cheap too!
@outburst I guess the same reason Capcom has canned so many other Mega Man games. Pretty odd coincidence that you mentioned a Mega Man Prime game made by Retro Studios without even realizing there almost was such a thing!
Edit: Actually, it was a team of people that used to work for Retro called Armature Studio.
@Giygas_95 @unrandomsam
Thanks for the recommendation. I will keep it in mind, since playing these on a big screen sounds very tempting.
Demons Cest !!!!!!! Finally !!!!!!!!!
