New Super Luigi U has been available in the Wii U eShop for a good while now and plenty of people have picked it up and completed the 82 extra levels starring Mario's green-glad brother.
Upon finishing it you can check out your records, which is handy to see just how you got on, and now the game's director Masataka Takemoto has opened up a new competition on Miiverse to see who can get the least coins on a playthrough.
To enter, all you need to do is attach a screenshot of your result to a comment on the Miiverse post shown below. Takemoto is accepting entries until 18th August.
Have you managed to play through New Super Luigi U without picking up a single coin? Let us know in the comment section.

Just bought the game. Gimme Nabbit, and I think I could do that without a single coin!
I'm holding out for the retail version
I find the competition ironic considering the last NSMB game involved grabbing the MOST coins, not the LEAST.
Awesome, might try it! It sounds very hard though
They should make it work like Sonic 1: Omochao Edition. That'd be hilarious.
I guess this is more of their ways of trying to force people to get the DLC. I've already pre-ordered my retail copy on sale for the same price as the DLC, so guess I'm out.
I wonder what the prize is, if there is one
i assume the optimal path is world1->5->7(using ghost shortcut)->8(using first level shortcut? or is this an every level thing?
Aw man, wish I had New Super Luigi U and a Wii U. :/
The prize better not be disappointing like NSMB2 prize was...
*green-clad
I don't think the prize is going to be anything worth writing home about, probably just an upload of your screenshot & Miiverse name to the Nintendo website...
Anyway the competition has already been won, before this news post was put up haha. Check the comments on the competition announcement post & someone has already beat the game with zero coins, thus they've won already.
Personally I managed to do World 1-1 without getting coins I tried for the big shortcut but I just couldn't even get to it without picking up a coin & had to restart each time.
Edit: Ah, I see the person who won didn't even take the big shortcut, well played
Yeah, this contest totally excludes North American gamers who want to get the disc version.
Still, it was better to get the DL version when there was a gap to fill than now to get the disc version with Pikmin 3 and M&L so close to it.
I managed to do the first Coin Rush DLC course in NSMB2 without picking up a single coin. Don't think I have the patience to go through an entire game like that.
@Samurairu Where did you do the preorder at? I could definitely get in on that deal...
Well, if I would have known sooner, I would have collected less coins! But, I have like 2000 to 3000.....
wahoo, contest closes 7 days before retail comes out, guess I'm passing on this ¬¬
to play as nabbit, hold down ZR or ZL and enter a level
@WiiLovePeace looks like the shortcut forces you to take coins, thus no shortcut
@JumpnShootMan It was during an e3 sale, not offered any longer.
I might give it a shot, just got my awesome retail copy yesterday:)
@hydeks lol same boat
Guess that's a fail...
Lest play a little more!!!
@Samurairu Ah, Dangit. Thanks for the info though. I probably would've spent a while looking for that nonexistent deal.
@JumpnShootMan No problem, the deal was in Canada, that's probably why you missed it.
@Samurairu That's definitely it. Thanks again.
Would definitely do this if they do it again after the retail one is released!
I have well over 10,000. So I know I ain't winning.
@Samurairu You in the US? I can't find a discount ANYWHERE for this game. I have it pre ordered on Amazon for $30, but would love to know of a better place to go...
This seems like an interesting competition. I know I have no chance of winning myself because beating the game alone was already a good amount of challenge for me. I sure hope there are more of these in the future.
He only stomped 5 Goombas???
How can you prove that it's not made in the original NSMBU?
Took about 2 days, but managed to beat the story without picking up a single coin. Very hard in some levels when the level design just likes to chuck coins at you, but it's not impossible, providing that secret exits were used to bypass the 1st Bowser Jr. Boss. The fortress levels, with the exception of World 6, are usually the most frustrating levels to finish coinless.
I doubt the winner or anyone who got 0 coins will receive anything special besides bragging rights, but it was quite an accomplishing challenge nonetheless.
