Re: Sadame

MoeTheDestroyer

I signed on today specifically to defend this game. A 7 out of 10 rating is far too low for this brilliant game.
The graphics are simply beautiful. You can choose between several color combos for each of the 4 characters which might not seem important, but they really give a custom feel to the sprites. The animations of the characters and enemies are dynamic and fluid.
The sound effects are excellent. Especially the swooshing sound of your weapons and the slashing sound when thwy hit.
The music is fun, memorable and suited to the genre.
The bosses, while a little easy, are huge and really call to mind the visual quality of Muramasa.
There are also a whopping 8 save slots, so my son and I can each play as and name each of the 4 characters. The shared inventory makes it easy for my son to use the better equipment I gather on my play time.
With 3 attacks, and up to 8 spells the combat system is varied and a real joy. Each of the 4 characters feels totally unique. And at times the sprites change when you equip different weapons (shurikens vs. Darts for example).
I got this game on sale for $8 but honestly I would have been delighted with it if I paid $20.
I would honestly give this game a 10. No question.

Re: Review: Animal Crossing: Amiibo Festival (Wii U)

MoeTheDestroyer

I think they are using this basically as a spring-board for the real game. First we had the free Animal Crossing Plaza app. I think that came about when they were finished rendering all of the characters in HD. They wanted to show them off and keep up interest in the AC universe.

Now they seem to have finished with rendering the environments for an HD Animal Crossing, so now we get another item to keep us interested. However, with this terrible review, it seems like this game should have simply been another free app. The trade-off for Nintendo providing it free would be the increased likelihood of us trying to buy AC amiibo and cards.

But my point stands, I think these previous entries are stepping stones to a full game.

Re: ZombiU Servers Reanimate After Being Down for Several Months

MoeTheDestroyer

i absolutely loved this game and it terrified me every time i played. i got the best ending, but never completed it on the most difficult setting. the one-death survival mode is an incredible feature to the game. no other game i've played puts it all on the line like that and truly gives you a sense of danger. i mean, the fact that you might be 15 hours into the game, putting in a lot of thought to how your supplies are spent, searching carefully every nook and cranny, and yet, at any moment, almost any zombie could take you down...

I may go back and try to beat it on survival... but im really not looking forward to the gladiator arena area... that was super, super difficult.

Re: Review: Swords & Darkness (3DS eShop)

i love this demo, but it takes forever to defeat even basic enemies, and you are constantly walking around them or trying to move out from in between two of them. if you could take them down in a few swings and move on the game would be hugely improved. everything about it is fantastic except for this horrible problem of just sitting there, slashing away forever to defeat an enemy...

Re: Review: Watch Dogs (Wii U)

MoeTheDestroyer

For the 200th comment, here is a little anecdote from my experience with the game.

I was spending the evening driving around scanning hot spots (places of interest or historic value in the real Chicago). I was speeding around on a motorcycle, stopping quickly, scanning the spot and hopping back on the bike and continuing on my way.

I stopped at one spot and hopped off my bike only to get bumped into by a car sending me to the ground. This had not happened to me before in the game so I decided to get out my gun and kill the driver.

As I got up and pulled my gun out, the driver also got out of their car. My scanner identified them as a hacker! (another player online trying to get some street cred by stealing my info). The nice looking lady pulled a machine gun out and a gun-battle in the middle of a busy downtown street ensued, similar to the movie Heat.

Just a classic example of how the online feature of this game is done very well! That kind of random, surprising, instantly intense experience is very rare in gaming these days.

Re: Review: Watch Dogs (Wii U)

MoeTheDestroyer

This is a very harsh score. I bought the game at full price long ago, and for several reasons never got around to playing it until about 2 weeks ago. I am having an absolute blast with every aspect of this game and would easily give it an 8 or higher. I don't see what all the complaining is about.

I love speeding away from the cops or chasing an online hacker, setting off traps, cutting corners, and trying not to send pedestrians pin-balling off into lamp posts and mail boxes...

Sure, the gamepad could have been used more, but i feel it is perfect for setting points on the map and then driving to them quickly. i never feel lost in the big city due to this feature, it is really like having real world gps in my car, but way better! i feel at home in this city and never like im struggling to find where i want to go.

i can't imagine this title being any better on another system. sure you might get a few more FPS, but if that is your biggest complaint, you are reaching for something to complain about. This game is good at any price!

Re: CIRCLE Entertainment Highlights Early Sales Figures and Success for Mercenaries Saga 2

MoeTheDestroyer

I highly, highly recommend this title. I'm about 15 hours into it (i have gone back and replayed previous levels to grind my stats and earn cash). Still not done with the main campaign. I'm on level 30 something. Incredible amount of content for the price.

The fact that you can upgrade to new classes, then upgrade each skill within that class, across the 10 playable characters makes for a huge amount of progress to make with each of them.

Probably my favorite part is that when you equip new weapons they actually show up in the character graphics! A great touch!

Re: Nintendo President Satoru Iwata Passes Away Aged 55

MoeTheDestroyer

As so many others have said, thank you for all of the joy you brought me and my family. Yes, Nintendo is a business. But through their care for their fans and the pride they took in their work it feels like more than just a business to me.

Your game may be over, but now you start a new one. Your spirit moves on to the next level, and i hope you bring as much fun to that world as you did to this one.

Continue..?

Re: Cypronia to Offer Future Release for Free as Celebration of Cube Life: Island Survival Sales

MoeTheDestroyer

@Cypronia i know you heard my complaints, but i also want to be clear that i love this game. Im on day 50, and ive only scratched the surface of the game (only visited 3 islands, no metal tools, no bow, etc.) This is a plus for me, not a negative; ive enjoyed the deliberate, careful nature of my experience so far. And it feels like i have a whole world to explore.
As the title suggests survival is the name of the game. I love the tension i feel as night approaches, trying to make it back to safety, and balancing my stats and supplies.. By the time the update arrives i should have a tree fort base on several islands. Congrats on creating an excellent game, that borrows from Minecraft, but is forging it's own path!

Re: Cypronia to Offer Future Release for Free as Celebration of Cube Life: Island Survival Sales

MoeTheDestroyer

There are a few annoying flaws in Cube Life. However, I am confident these will be addressed in the first patch and I have had an absolute blast with this title. It really shows how perfectly suited the Wii U would have been for Minecraft.

However, I really enjoy the differences between this title and Minecraft. There is a bit more story to this one, and the island hopping theme really works well.

My complaints (i know they have been listed elsewhere):

Cannibals are far too powerful. If you are not camping out on the Native's island they you have to hide in a skyloft-type structure until morning.

You cannot open your own chests in your own house on Native's island without angering them.

Weapons, raft, lantern break very quickly. (my solution so far is to build primarily with sand. you can break it down quickly with only your bare hands.)

Re: Review: Cube Life: Island Survival (Wii U eShop)

MoeTheDestroyer

I am approaching Day 50 in the game. I have had a blast with this title. The only suggestion I have, that I have not already seen mentioned, is that the cannibals are FAR too powerful.

I would love to be able to put up a fair fight in a secured building. As it is, I have survived by making a spiral staircase 24 blocks high (2 block tall steps to keep the cannibals from jumping) and then a platform that goes far away from the staircase. So i sat at the far end of the platform every night to keep the cannibals directly under me just circling and not damaging my structure or shooting through my walls. I thought I could take some supplies out to sea and be safe, but they swam out into the open sea and shot me!

Please make them more manageable! Thanks!

Re: Veterans Of 3DS Title Xeodrifter Will Get The Upcoming Wii U Version For Free

MoeTheDestroyer

The price was a little high considering the overall length of the game, the recycling of boss graphics, and the lack of visual variety in the weapons. However, the game was a good one, with impressive retro-styled graphics, catchy and atmospheric music, and excellent controls.

This free Wii U version really makes me feel better about the original purchase. It's a great treat for the fans! Thanks Renegade Kid!

Re: Feature: Nintendo Franchises We Want to See at E3 - Animal Crossing

MoeTheDestroyer

New Leaf is amazing. It's just a perfect game, especially for someone like me who has little time for gaming (I'm a parent, a teacher, married, lots of demands on my time) So being able to jump in my town and back out again quickly (using the sleep function of my 3ds) is perfect for me.

I admit this would be a drawback for a Wii U version, however, I love the game so much, and so does the rest of my family, that there is no question whatsoever that we would purchase a Wii U Animal Crossing. I would love to see this revealed at E3

Re: Video: UCraft's CraftyKart PowerPack Mod Gets Its Own Hard Rockin' Trailer

MoeTheDestroyer

Let's play nice, ladies... The game will speak for itself in the end. Like I said earlier, I would love to see this game be a success in terms of game design and functionality.

I do see some valid points above though, the "speed/wind lines" do seem very distracting. Perhaps if they appeared at the edges of the screen instead of directly in the center they would work better?

Just a thought! Best of luck!!!

Re: Cube Creator 3D

MoeTheDestroyer

The demo is really good. Very close to Minecraft. The water doesn't flow like in Minecraft and I'm hoping that is something that they change in the full version. I can't wait to see what they do with survival mode. This has a huge amount of potential, if they pull it off.

Re: Review: Azure Striker Gunvolt (3DS eShop)

MoeTheDestroyer

@BakaKnight yeah, sorry! maybe i should have said it another way without revealing so many details. just didn't want you to think this game was one of those that they never let you fail. the bosses are a decent challenge and you will die several times in the course of the game.

Re: Review: Azure Striker Gunvolt (3DS eShop)

MoeTheDestroyer

@BakaKnight about your comment, there are rare instances (only happened twice to me so far and i've played through the whole game and gone back over the levels a couple times each) where, when you die, you are brought back to life by the song of this young super-psychic girl you are trying to save... you are surrounded in blue flames and have infinite electricity, but you are still vulnerable to attacks... it's been very surprising for me both of the times it's happened and it gives a bit of excitement/unexpectedness to the game. it's not something you will have a problem with. it's pretty rare that it ever happens.
