Minecraft clones are hitting the Wii U eShop thick and fast these days, and just in case you've not already had your fill, here's a fresh look at the forthcoming UCraft.
In this trailer - which is accompanied by some of the most obnoxious guitar playing we've heard since Spinal Tap last toured - the game's modular credentials are showcased. This is apparently one of the "PowerPack" mods which will be available alongside the game, and turns the whole thing into a racing title.
With Cube Life and Stone Shire already available, will you be bothering with this? As ever, share your thoughts on UCraft by posting a comment below.

I will laugh if Minecraft is announced next week.
I am going to stick to Cubelife and this.
Oh god, that trailer is hilarious, between the music and the star wipes, I'm dying
I think the guitar was the best part of the video. Sounded like the opening to every song in every Guitar Hero game ever. I think the word is - generic.
Banana peel items in a kart racer? Wow, lot of thought went into that one. Must have used up all his creativity in calling his Wii U clone of Minecraft Ucraft.
I'll keep playing Lego Worlds, thanks. (ride-able fire breathing flying dragon)
Ucraft is the only one with an actual infinite world generator.

"You can walk for years and years and never reach an end in UCraft."
Sounds like a right hoot.
that looks awful...
Looks pretty bad.
Why is it I immediately think of the Slide Music from Mario 64 while watching this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M-otEdq-Ozo
It's funny because there exists at least one (free) Kart Racer in Minecraft proper.
https://hypixel.net/threads/welcome-to-turbo-kart-racers.324576/
@Damo the plot twist: that person is the developer.
@Morpheel Incorrect.
Lol they seriously used the banana from Mario kart xD
@Twiilight_Prince plot twist to the plot twist
@morpheel
Not sure about this one!
I really want this game to do well. I want a good Minecraft clone on my Wii U, and also, because I designed the Ucraft logo for this game! (seen at 1:20)
That being said, i see both good and bad things in this trailer. I really hope he pulls off a good game in the end.
@Damo It may sound like a "right hoot" (whatever that is) but UCraft does in fact have infinite worlds. The limits of the game are only set by the amount of freespace available on your Wii U and UCraft save files are extremely small.
@MoeTheDestroyer Thanks for the logo once again!
@Collinhall Yes but that is only for Minecraft + PC not consoles. Our goal is to deliver a great out-of-the-box experience without the use of hacked / exploited code
As always Thank you all for the support and comments!
@Statusphere according to Google, Hoot is slang for "good time".
@MorpheelStaff I Googled it before posting but "right good time" still doesn't make sense to me. Guess it's over my head.
Anyways thanks for your comments.
The video is hilarious in its self, but the camera is way too far away.
Now if this game promises to be what it is at launch (which I doubt as it seems this game will be like PS4 launch titles) I will buy it but if not I will probably turn to Stone Shire or that other one.
Nexis Games using assets from another company? Quelle surprise!
@Statusphere Sorry, I didn't follow your project closely: will the final game have a backstory/objective and sidequest? Will it have online multiplayer too? If it will have these things, while not being plagued by too many bugs and glitches, I think it'll have a strong chance to do well. All the best.
@AlexOlney As I'm sure you (NintendoLife) already know Nintendo does not own banana peels. Aside from that I do not have access to Nintendo Assets but I guess you'd need to be a dev to know that.
Thanks for your comments.
@andrea987 Yes to all of those questions, UCraft will actually deliver on its promises unlike many other eshop titles. UCraft will also have machines and copperstone which has not been mentioned by any other Nintendo sandbox voxel devs
We don't take the easy way at Nexis and if being last to the eshop means I'll lose a few sales then so be it. Its about quality over quantity for me and like I always said I don't want your money I want your heart!
@NintendoLife You can write all the Nasty articles/snide comments you want to about me/Nexis but as I'm sure you have come to realize I am not going anywhere. NL may be huge but the gaming world is bigger than this site
It's no surprise that so many devs have issues with articles from NintendoLife but sadly I'm the only one brave enough to call you out on your childish behavior. Correct me if im wrong but wasn't an NL editor recently let go for unprofessional articles/reviews?
Anyways thank you for your "support" of our games!
@Statusphere No, no NL editor has been let go. Not sure where you heard that.
@Damo It's been mentioned by a few sources on several different occasions, so I assumed it to be true. Thank you for clarifying.
Let's play nice, ladies... The game will speak for itself in the end. Like I said earlier, I would love to see this game be a success in terms of game design and functionality.
I do see some valid points above though, the "speed/wind lines" do seem very distracting. Perhaps if they appeared at the edges of the screen instead of directly in the center they would work better?
Just a thought! Best of luck!!!
@NexisGames What are these 'sources' and rumours? I'm genuinely curious, as they clearly just made stories up from thin air.
@ThomasBW84 I believe you know this is not the case and your post is merely a form of damage control. You also know me well enough to know that I do not disclose my sources so we should just end this now and focus on "UCraft" which is ultimately the point of this thread.
@NexisGames I'd appreciate it if you didn't spread mis-information citing 'sources'. Last I checked I was the editor, Damien is the editorial director and Jon Wahlgren is the Editor at Large and based in the US. That's the entire editorial team and has been for quite some time. We have a sizeable team of writers, reviewers and contributors beyond that core of three editorial staff.
What I know is the case is that your post is definitively incorrect, that was why I was asking about where the story had come from. I think I would know if one of the three editors had been 'let go'.
Hope that clarifies the matter for you.
Ok my mistake,
A NL "Reviewer" was recently sanctioned in some shape form or fashion for unprofessional reviews according to multiple sources. I apologize for confusing reviewer with editor but unprofessional is the word you should be focusing on here.
In any event I hope this adds a little clarity to the situation for you as well.
Well, that was... something. The world itself doesn't look too bad from a sandbox-creator perspective, and I really like how this is trying to differentiate itself from Minecraft with more detailed (and less blocky) characters, as well as the SDK Paint implementation. But that kart stuff really needs some clear reconsideration in terms of visual presentation (especially that camera angle).
@NexisGames C'mon now, that's the stuff that always backfires. Don't accuse others unless you really want to drown your reputation in a kitchen sink. What is true or not is irrelevant, just like the matter you brought up has nothing to do with your game - just don't write such provoking stuff as a developer. It's not going to do you any good.
@Kaze_Memaryu Thank you for your comments. I asked NL staff to keep the thread on topic, I intend to do the same.
@NexisGames Greetings from Cube Life developers.
You posted "Ucraft is the only one with an actual infinite world generator.
The limits of the game are only set by the amount of freespace available on your Wii U and UCraft save files are extremely small."
You probably refers to Cube Life long save time... Wel, we are curious and really need to ask: Can you confirm to Nintendo community that Ucraft infinite world is fully modifiable and the save files are extremely small ?
This is getting hilarious, I need to get more popcorn.
@Cypronia I wasn't talking or referring to you but yes, I''ll upload a small video later today. Also, please do not compare our engines as they are not in the same league. Your world is 100% static and you pre-load blocks. Seems to us you purposely poorly executed the backend of your game in an attempt to beat the comp at the consumers expense. Those loading times are 100% unacceptable and you know it.
UCRAFT first to announce, last to release, says it all right there. Effort.
@gage_wolf Im not the developer of Ucraft but if I had to guess, the thing of it is, that camera is only like that in this video, but not in actual game. If I had to guess I would say Nexis zoomed it out to let people see the world and the drastic improvement over what is drawn in CL & SS as he is racing. What's more is he is accelerating really quick and to pull that off on a voxel engine on a Wii U (with the only infinite world generator of the bunch) putting all its resources of Wii U into this constant loading state as you travel rather than a fixed state like CC and SS really speaks to the games strength, and now in craftykart you are now accelerating this process 100 fold, I think that is maybe why the presentation of this video is at it seems, to make a clear point in the community which I think has went over manys head.. as for the speed lines, in the game when camera is in rightful location they wouldn't be as visible nor distracting.
just my 2 cents. peace.
@NexisGames I'd dearly love to see these "multiple sources".
@Damo poop in one hand and wish in the other, see which fills up faster.
edit
@Damo I'd love if you guys were a little more professional and treated NintendoLife like a gaming site instead of "Days of our Lives". Sadly, it seems neither of us will get what we want.
@NexisGames
LOL. You are wrong, because Cube Life world is 100% dynamic. You can change every block on it, save it and it will be changed.
You wrote: "Seems to us you purposely poorly executed the backend..." seems you try to provoke us... why?
You haven't answered to my direct question. Can you modify every single block and save it very quickly in your infinite world? How long it will take to save the game in Ucraft on the Wii U, btw?
Thanks for your answer.
@NexisGames
Also, Let us comment your post above "UCraft will actually deliver on its promises unlike many other eshop titles."
Hmmm, it was Nexis Games (you) who:
You should think about it and do not criticize other developers, and Nintendolife staff... it seems very unprofessional.
None of the things you mentioned about Nexis seem as bad as promising features you fail to deliver in your published product. Lets try to stay on topic here please.
@NexisGames
For the third time:
1) You haven't answered my direct questions. Can you modify every single block and save it very quickly in your infinite world? How long will it take to save the game in Ucraft on the Wii U?
2) Can you list the features we promised and have not delivered, please?
@Cypronia Yes you can modify every block, is that even a notable feature for a sandbox game? UCraft uses on the fly terrain generation utilizing perlin noise/worms which is what allows for infinite worlds. From the looks of cube life you guys simply designed your world post run-time scene by scene in unity making your environment static not dynamic like you claim.
UCraft is 100% dynamic, the real deal!
Thanks for your comments!
I LOLd.
"Island" survival, not infinite
Edit:
And I like how these editors are behaving like this as a publicity stunt. They have all of our contacts, I personally mailed this video to Damien and Tom 5 minutes before this article went live. They really dont care about who the misinfo source is or else they would have atleast tried and emailed somebody lol instead they run circles in comment sections of their articles after baiting developers in their writings and that is how you know people that what is said about NL are true.
@Cypronia It takes about 3 seconds to save and I'm being generous here.
I hope I've answered your relevant questions
@cypronia To answer your query even further, each individual face of a single UCRAFT block can be individually textured using SDK Paint. That is 1 block with 4 sides and 1 top 1 bottom illustrated using 6 individual user generated textures.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=TJkwPz1XCT0
This customization is offered free to those who own both software
@NexisGames Notable features of "sandbox" in games mean an open-world with non-linear play. Even games like Arma or Far Cry, they are open-world games and have limited maps.
Sandbox game genre does not mean Infinite world...
@NexisGames
You have not answered 2) Can you list the features we promised and have not delivered, please?
Also, Cypronia has announced Cube Life in January, targeting Q2 release. US version has been just released, EU version is going to be released on June 25th. This is how WE do it...
@Twiilight_Prince So, let me ask. Is it possible to texture every single block with its own (different) texture? I doubt this is possible...
@Cypronia I haven't answered that specific question because this is a UCraft thread and you have a habit of notoriously appearing in the threads of other developers in shameless attempts to advertise your own games.
If you'd like to discuss UCraft features here then I am all for it, if you would like to further discuss the shortcomings of your own game then we can do it in a CL thread or twitter
Have a nice day.
@cypronia yes, of course. Every single block with 6 different textures each, 1 per block face. (see the above post).
"So, let me ask. Is it possible to texture every single block with its own (different) texture? I doubt this is possible..."
@Cypronia it's very possible and quite simple.
@Twiilight_Prince There is a limited RAM (and other HW limits) on the Wii U for infinite world itself... and it will be very challenging to run an infinite world including main hero + NPCs + UI + weapons + items + crafting + custom textures + 16 online players and keep everything on smooth playable frame-rate. We have doubts until we see this working...
Challenging? Yes. Impossible? No. Thankfully for Nintendo Gamers we are up to it.
@Cypronia Tell that to the dev-kit its running on. Just because you can't pull it off doesn't mean I can't
@NexisGames wrote "I haven't answered that specific question because this is a UCraft thread and you have a habit of notoriously appearing in the threads of other developers in shameless attempts to advertise your own games."
Sorry, but it was YOU who wrote that we (Cypronia) failed to deliver features as promised. You did this on Ucraft forum. It would be fair to explain.
@Cypronia You were already here advertising your game long before that comment was made. I have never shown up on any CL threads yet you are here advertising your inferior game just like you did on Stone Shire. Unfortunately for you I am a much tougher opponent than Finger Gun.
@NexisGames
What are you talking about? Advertise? Look at the end of the article. Both Cube Life and Stone Shire are mentioned and linked there!
FYI, I bet almost everybody here knows CL, it is in the TOP10 on the eShop, it is doing VERY well... just look at the Miiverse, take a look at "HOT GAMES" below this comment and you will see Cube Life there. So what are you talking about?
There was a question to @Cypronia which we answered on Stone Shire thread. It is about our policy and approach to Nintendo community. We do our best to communicate and answer everything.
If somebody mention Ucraft in any CL threads, you are very well welcomed to answer. We will not accuse you of " shameless attempts to advertise your own games".
Also, you haven't listed the features we "promised and have not delivered". If you are afraid to advertise our game, feel free to put it on CL thread... but the problem is, that it was just your fiction, you have no facts and you just try to escape to give answer...
@cypronia Exactly my point thank you for making it for me, You aren't even in the same league and yet these editors who obviously do not understand what they are even talking about put you on the same scale LOL, do you understand the words that are coming out of my mouth? "island survival". Have fun with tiny patch of land. You'll be able to build castles bigger than the entire game of CL in Ucraft, and paint them. and race in them, and kill people in them. You are not even in competition with Ucraft, and yet look at your comments of comparison and your self reassurance stats it really is besides the point which is being made. Congratz.
@Cypronia For now, but congrats on your launch none-the-less - I'll upload that infinite terrain video demonstration in a few as well
@Cypronia Also since you seem to be confused on how to handle RAM limitations I figured I’d give you a small lesson on how real voxel engines work. UCraft handles world generation procedurally and has the ability to Create and Destroy voxels as needed. In order to bypass the Ram limitations all I needed to do was figure out exactly how much the Wii U can handle at one time.
Once I figured this out it was a simple matter of creating/destroying voxels as needed to stay within the limitation of the system. To avoid excessive save and loading times UCraft save files were broken down into region files and are only referenced as needed.
It would be a novice move to load the entire stage at one time. This seems to be the case on CL.
@Cypronia here is your proof - http://nintendonuggets.com/cube-life-inexperience-and-lack-of-faith-in-wii-u-exposed-along-with-nintendo-life/
It's looking really, really promising.
@RikuKH Thank you for your comments!
@NexisGames Nice try LOL.
1) It is Nexis Games who is inexperienced, you announced Ucraft due before the end of 2014, then Wii U exclusive, later multiplatform, later Wii U exclusive again. You have never answered which features we promised and have not delivered, to call us inexperienced, sorry!
2) We do not have lack of faith in Wii U. How can you say it to the developer, who published 7 games for the Wii U in a year?
3) Thanks for the proof. We suggest to change the name of the video from "Infinite World Generation" to "Infinite Plain Generation".
What we wanted to say, is that it is not problem to create a tech demo with infinite world on the Wii U. But it is not a GAME! When you try to include changing blocks, other players, NPCs, items, effects, UI, crafting, music and sounds, save/load system, etc in your infinite tech demo - we think it will not work together on solid FPS.
Regarding your video in this article. Do you really offer 10+ items in a game with name U"craft" ? It looks like a solid crafting
@Cypronia The more you speak, the more you show your ignorance of programming logic. I've wasted enough time on you. I've already proven my point and have nothing else to say. In the future please don't base my or any other studio's abilities on your own limitations.
Have a nice day.
PS
10+ Items/Weapons for CraftyKart, UCraft itself will have 200+
@NexisGames We base your abilities on what you have done so far. Lets see if August 25th is the final date as you promised or it will be delayed again and again...
have a nice day too and good luck with your development
@cypronia Such rubbish. He never promised Aug 25th. He said between Aug and November. The launch is as soon as the new bad ass Unity 5 becomes master submittable on Wii U which is what he uses (pay attention). That isn't a tech demo of terrain, it is the actual game, and he turned the flat mode on so he could cover a large area in the Kart without any climbing and wasting time, an area of which is larger than your entire game itself. Cry more please. You want to see generation with flat turned off? Look at any trailer previously released and know what you are looking at buddy. You can disable and enable flat mode so users do not have to waste several hours destroying every block to flatten an area to start constructing a new world as an option. Not hard to understand. Now if you are finished with this stunt, e3 is upon us.
@Twiilight_Prince
between August and November... around 2014 to 2017... ))
Please, set the release date once you have confirmation from NOA, OK?
otherwise it is just your imagination, not a reality.
( ・◇・)
Wishful thinking @Cypronia but you will have some real competition this holiday season on eShop .
@Cypronia They already have infinite worlds, it shouldn't be too hard to rearrange the blocks once they appear. Lots of games are delayed, usually for the reason that they are polished and actually finished. NexisGames, you really shouldn't bother with this discussion anymore....
@RikuKH You are 100% correct, thank you and have a wonderful day
"A delayed game is eventually good. A bad game is bad forever" -Shigeru Miyamoto
@NexisGames
Hi, it seems that campaign against Cypronia you started during the weekend reaching a turning point! Ucraft fans purchase Cubelife. Cube Life jumped from #9 to TOP#5 best selling eShop games over the weekend. Thank you!
UCraft is going for #1
hahah
Cube Life looks better, to be honest.
@NexisGames @Cypronia Seriously I have never EVER seen such a big argument between 2 developers! looool omg.
tbh Cube Life looks better but until I see reviews/trailers of Ucraft I just cannot say at the moment which one I think is better.
@NexisGames @Cypronia
I'm uber excited about U-Craft. From what I gather people will be able to customise textures on blocks, create adventure type 'games', kart racing and even possibly FPS?
I've been singing U-Craft's praises on Miiverse. As well as HullBreach who also have a great vision for the Wii U. I love those guys.
I just want to know is U-Craft still coming out between August and November?
Perhaps some more teaser vids to tide your fans over?
I also salute Cypronia for Cube Life. I got the game and absolutely loved it. Many of course compare it to MineCraft. Even on the Miiverse folks are slating it for being inferior. Consequently most of this lot didn't buy the game.
However myself and other fans have been singing this game's praises. We've even got a few folks to buy the game.
Personally, I find Cube Life's survival mode much more fun than Minecraft's. The graphical effects are also a nice touch. Anyway, I'll spare the review for now.
The point is some of us gamers appreciate what you lot have done for us Wii U gamers.
But all I've heard from both Nexis and Cypronia recently is arguing. How about listening to us gamers a bit more?
Trailers, news on releases and updates and so on.
Hull Breach takes time out to thank their customers.
And that guy who made Sanatory Hallways constantly graces the Miiverse to thank and talk to his fans.
Intresting clone, will see how this will turn out. Im still looking for the best minecraft clone on my wiiu, hopefully this one fit.
Ha. Two devs of trash clone games had a fight in the comments. But tbh the trailer for this game in this article looks better than I remembered it but I'll never get it. Same with Minecraft now that it's announced (aka paid for by nintendo)
