Earlier this month, Saber Interactive said it was hard at work on an update for its Switch port of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Complete Edition. While it was originally thought to be a minor update, a recent comment from the developer suggests it might be a lot bigger.
In response to a question on its official VK social Media page, Saber said the update would be "worth the wait" for Switch owners, which is a rather interesting comment to make for a game released last October.
According to Wccftech, modders previously discovered additional graphics options in the month of the game's Nintendo release, which has led to theories that these options could be made available to everyone at some point in the near future.
What updates would you personally like to see for the Switch version of Witcher 3? Comment down below.

Developers, "Witcher 3 update will be worth the wait."
Patch Notes: You can now pet Roach.
If it's an option to improve the graphics but may make the game less stable no thanks. I think the game looks fine as it is now. If they can somehow make it look better without any sacrifices then I'm all for it.
@DrDaisy not exactly
Good to know. haven't even started the game lol - to many backlog games and dbd of course ;D but now, i'm waiting even longer - so i can start the game with this new "mystery-patch"
@Xylnox That'd be worth it.
Good on them for the continued support. Can't wait to see what else they can get out of the Switch
I am having so much fun with this game!
Thank God for this port. Awesome game!!
@DrDaisy that comment just hits the ear wrong.
You can now play with a green Link hat
If they can get the handheld resolution up to 720p, I'll buy it.
@Dezzy Wait for a Switch Pro for 720-1080p resolution support.
The improvements are very likely not for graphics (this would not take that long for implementing) but for cross-save with Steam and/or GOG.
Witcher Battle Royal! I knew it!
Wonder if they’ll improve the graphics a bit, I can play the game but the bluriness does affect the appearance quite a bit. a small resolution boost might do it
Downloadable language packs would be nice! You know, the ones we were promised. So we can play the game we bought in our language of choice. All of the language content is already there, it really shouldn't be taking this long to add it in.
@Max_the_German : That sounds like a genius move that will persuade many more into purchasing the Switch version. I can't see why the developers would continue development of the port otherwise.
But I am peeved that they hadn't delayed the game to ensure that the refinements were on the cartridge. The current update is already 3GB (and the cartridge already had room to spare).
What I would like though are some amiibo costumes.
I want to doll Geralt up in that Bayonetta gear.
@NINtendo242 @Dezzy would be amazing in 720p handheld!
@Spoony_Tech the options to do that were hidden at the start. If this is a graphical update it’s taken this long because they want to make it better without risking the stability of the game.
Others have done it, released updates that have improved graphics so why not this one. I just hope I’m not too far in before I finish it(probably months away)
$20 says they're made available at the same time the Switch Pro is announced...
@NINtendo242
I'm not buying a Switch Pro just for that!
Since this was apparently such a good port (I haven't bought it yet) i'm curious to know what they have been cooking up. Going by what's said in the article, it sounds to me like it could be something similar to how Grid Autosport has different option modes for performance and graphics. But, I got no idea, I'm just not sure what else it could be, considering it's the full experience already.
I've become quite keen to pick up Switcher after watching the show. I have it on Steam and didn't feel like I needed another playthrough yet, but...
The dream is mod support. I'd gladly have gotten Skyrim again on the Switch but for the inability to use my favorite mods from the PC version (on my non-hacked Switch). How amazing it would be if we could get mods for the Witcher!
Hmm interesting! I have finished the main game and playing the Blood and wine DLC but the game is very buggy at this stage so have left it to wait for the update. I have LOVED playing it, hope the update isn’t too far off.
I would just want to be a bit more stable as I had crashes very often. For the graphics I can say I played 120h+ almost exclusively on TV and for quite some time my mom though I was watching a movie...
@ozwally You can turn off "blur" in the options menu and it improves the graphics massively
I'm certainly excited. I've logged 150 hours so far, more than any game on my Switch except Breath of the Wild (300) and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (220). It's my first time playing a Witcher game, and I'm completely hooked.
@Liam_Doolan any idea where the header image came from? I absolutely love it! I can't seem to find it on the CD Projekt website, though.
@The_Mysteron thanks for the tip! Is that motion blur, or blur in general even when things aren’t in motion?
This makes me glad I haven't started playing it yet. I've had it since launch and have thought about it a couple of times but have always ended up picking something else from my backlog instead. I guess I'll just wait till we find out what this update does before I start it now.
So they're improving it? Great!!
I'd prefer a patch for Vampyr, tbh. That game needs a performance and graphics patch. The Witcher 3 already looks amazing, Vampyr not so much (still a fantastic game, though).
I'd like an update to fix the random bugs and frequent crashes the game has. I'm saving excessively just to keep from losing stuff from the random crashes. Sometimes dialog/voices don't even sound...I've walked through random locked doors(like walking through walls) and into areas that you're not supposed to...I've had his armor go a million different colors out of the blue(like confetti). If you start a quest by talking to a character and make the mistake of talking to them again before it's completed sometimes the options get screwed up for talking to them again and other random bugs....and with that said....
I LOVE this game! It's an awesome game but man please fix it! Damnit love the gwent too(hated it at first but you just have to build your deck up by buying every card you can and just playing til' you win. I never lose now). Gwent is addictive and the quests/hunt for more cards is so much fun. Just got past the part where I sent triss off and she's gone not to return, could have told her to stay but chose to be "loyal"...but man that part of the game was so awesome, thinking man....did I mess up lol. Hoping to see her character again before the game is completed...in spite of her lectures lol.
Please fix the game, like it a lot....cannot stop playing it. FIX IT, at times it's frustrating enough to almost....nah...
@JJtheTexan At the very bottom of the Witcher website, it should be within the media / wallpaper section.
Playing the game and enjoying it. Happy they ported it as Switch is my only videogame platform of choice.
"Saber said the update would be worth the wait for Switch owners, which is a rather interesting comment to make for a game released last October" Shouldn't be the normal thing for companies to support a 59$ game after just 3 months with major updates?
ok they are putting link here arent they
As we know all games are improved on Nintendo consoles with Mario hats.
So no news on roughly when this update is expected for??
Geralt in Smash please while yer at it.
@dimi There was a time when games were released after being thoroughly tested, and they couldn't be updated but rarely needed to be anyway. Of course, one may argue those games were much less complicated... But still, the fact remains that they usually took more time to make sure the product was finished before releasing it at such a high price, and I think that should be the standard again. But yeah, they should indeed support them for a while after releasing, now that every system has online functionality and built-in storage capacity.
Ps: you might want to say $60, just for yourself, as the 59(.99) is basically that, but the capitalists screw with your mind by making you and the seller say "fifty (something)" instead of "sixty", at the "cost" of 0.01, making your brain think you spent 10.00 less.
I wouldn't be at all shocked if it was a performance improvement announced for the rumored switch pro
I don't think a boost in resolution would be a realistic expectation. But a slightly better framerate would. Like, ensuring a constant 30fps everywhere, including in cinematics. The game sometimes drop some frames when a lot is going on.
I haven't got a lot of crashes (maybe one or two in over dozens and dozens of hours played), but one other thing that could be improved is load times. When in smaller areas of the map, load times are manageable, but whenever you travel to Novigrad or Velen regions, load times are quite bad. If they can improve that, it would be very welcome.
Oh, and can they add more variety for NPC designs through a patch? I know some models were removed for this version to cut on size, the result being that it happenned sometimes in my game where two completely different characters (in optional missions) shared the exact same model, which ended up being a bit too weird.
Oh, and some pop-in, pop-out graphics I've seen flickering in the background a couple of times. Like the asset is moving in and out of the limit at which it clips. An easier transition between those rendering zones might look better. Although this a pretty minor detail that doesn't affect gameplay at al.
would like to play The Witcher 3 at 30 FPS and not 20 FPS
@Spoony_Tech I don't think they would announce just gphx options menu. I think they're working on optimisation.
I'll be looking forward to it! I got the game for Christmas and have barely put it down since!
@ozwally There are options for both, but I'd keep the motion blur if I were you. Makes the action a bit more visceral I think. Turning off just the "blur" setting makes everything much more high def. Dunno why they set it on at default. Maybe to hide some texture pop in or dynamic resolution, but it definitely looks better without blur if you ask me.
For the most part, this port has been excellent and it doesnt take long to get used to the graphics as they are as you get sucked into the quests and story etc. It would be great to see a performance boost and for the game to crash a bit less often. I'm 70 hours in and probably get 1-2 crashes a day at the moment, its particuarly noticable in merchants that you have sold a large number of items to (like the armourer in Novigrad).
Now with success of Wither 3-the Trolls are coming out in full force. But that hasn't stopped Witcher 3 as it marches forward. Their support is the reason Witcher 3 will keep selling forward. I haven't gotten chance to get back to W3 because of the Switch backlogs but when I get chance I fire it up and give it a run over and over.
I'm getting ready to sell my physical version . Had the game crash on me like 8 times and I just got to velen . I don't put up with game crashes ,especially for ports that should've had more time to be worked on .(my copy of everspace froze on my 2nd run ,so I immediately returned it) When i first played it on switch my first reaction was "wow I'ma buy a PS4 to play this with full graphics !" . But as the hours went buy I get this feeling that the open world is more empty than it leads you to believe . Add In the fact that there is a 3gb update with more on the way and yea the physical version becomes pointless .
It seems Witcher 3 doesn't run much better on PS4 so I might just give this franchise a pass.
@The_Mysteron you just made my day, thanks! Never realised that setting was there
Just let us disable the antialiasing.
Maybe it's a patch for the new pro switch
@sixrings I would actually be super excited about a switch pro! The Switch has been my goto since having my second back in April xD
@Liam_Doolan brilliant, thanks!
@Max_the_German
I’d love cross save with my PS4. Not counting on it though.
@Mommar @sixrings
It's a crazy idea, but if the rumors of a summer launch of a new Switch Pro model end up coming true, then this Witcher 3 update could rollout graphics vs performance options akin to PS4 Pro games.
I strongly believe Nintendo will avoid Pro-exclusive titles, and will instead go the PS4 Pro route, offering Pro-exclusive performance and graphics improvements to games available on all models.
I’ve been wanting to play this game forever, but I’m not sure what console to get it for. I have a 4K TV and all of the switch games look so blurry when played on 4K TVs. I went out and bought a 1080p/1440p gaming monitor along with the Mclassic and now my games look pretty on switch. The question is should I Get it for switch? BTW I set my switch to 720p and the mclassic upscales to 1440p on my monitor
@Dezzy if xenoblade chronicles 2 can't do better than 480p for the most part in handheld mode, there's no way witcher 3 could do 720p without being a slideshow. I'm very picky (not cuz i want to be), but since my eyesight isn't as good as when i was younger, i don't notice most of the things that would probably really bother me 10 or 20 years ago.
Darn, I still need to play the DLC i PREORDERED on Xbox....smh.
@Ulysses I really don't think it's that crazy. Clearly Nintendo doesn't want to go for that split in exclusive's between sku's like what happened with the two games made specially for the New 3DS, I think proper scaling for something more powerful makes sense. The Witcher 3 already does that well on every other device.
Patch I look forward the most: “While this game is installed, Bloodstained will run faster!”
I think we got HomeBrew users here. I played it many hours and no crashes so I suspect HomeBrew users are causing their own problems here.
Switch Pro-support:
4K 60fps 8hrs battery life handheld mode, 8K 120fps docked mode
Enhanced Pro Dock: 12K 240fps
@eRaz0r wow, you're so me😂😂😂
I wish for the cross platform cloud saves -_-
Unless it's a noticeable improvement in visuals and/or an increase in performance, I'm not sure what else they could do at this point that would qualify as a significant update.
@Ratherjolly somebody down voted you being excited about the possibility of a switch pro because they are too cheap or poor to upgrade. Cest la vie.
@HardcoreDaBoss I guess people don't like your comment for speaking the truth that games look blurry on a 4k tv run from the switch. Kudos to you trying to get better performance from the Mclassic. I have decided to go the route of 1080p monitors since I agree the switch doesn't look great upscaled. Maybe we're too picky and we should be shamed for having elitest standards.
Turning AA off would be great. Would reduce the blur. And speaking of blur...
Does anyone know what the difference is between the motion blur and "blur" options are in the post-processing menu? I understand the motion blur, but I don't get the standard "blur" option at all.
All I want is gyro-aiming controls.
