Re: The First Review For Bravely Default II Is Now In

Mii_duck

I dunno, I loved the first two on 3DS but this one isn't grabbing me, I didn't even feel inspired enough to try the demo(s).
Maybe because I disliked Octopath so much, or because the Switch has had such a range of good games that I don't feel like going back to this type.

Re: Solve Space Mysteries In Outer Worlds' First Expansion, Now On Switch

Mii_duck

Loved The Outer Worlds, only the second game on Switch I've started a second playthough on as soon as I finished the first (did the same with Skyrim).
I'm not sure I have a save from before-the-point-of-no- return though, which means I can't start the DLC. So that'll be a third playthrough then, but I might wait until the second DLC drops.
I know it looks and performs much better on other platforms, but I only have a Switch and it was fine for me, I was perfectly happy with it.

Re: Hades, Ikenfell, And Immortals Fenyx Rising All Nominated For GLAAD Media Awards

Mii_duck

I thought the same sex romance in The Outer Worlds was presented extremely well. No comment made at all about the gender of the people involved, it was simply presented as a romance.
Also, no mysteriously effective armoured bikinis in the outfits. I mean, I like implausibly skimpy armour as much as the next Dragon's Dogma player, but yeah, it was refreshing.

Re: Nintendo First Shared Switch Launch Details Four Years Ago Today

Mii_duck

I remember nipping to the loo at work and hiding in trap one so I could catch up on the launch.
I was worried that the Switch was too bitty and just wouldn't work, I thought it was a great idea but not many people would 'get' it.

Obviously I got that wrong...

Won tickets to the launch event in London too, which was brilliant and really sold it to me (my avatar is the pin badge and lanyard from that event.)

Re: Video: Check Out Hitman 3's Moody Opening Cinematic

Mii_duck

I've no problem with cloud gaming in principle, but sadly Control showed that my Internet/Switch combo isn't robust enough to make it worth it.
A shame, because I'd love to play both this and Control.
Wonder if there is any chance of older Hitman games coming on Cart or download?

Re: Review: Control: Ultimate Edition - A Highly Convincing Proof-Of-Concept For Cloud Gaming On Switch

Mii_duck

Nearly bought it after the first free trial, (graphics mode) ran really well apart from a tiny bit of stutter. Oh, and the horrendously sensitive camera.
However, I decided to have a second trial (performance mode) the next night. Sat in the same place, but it was unplayable. The graphics were just a mush, impossible to see anything.

You only get two trials so I can't try again, so it's a no sale for me, unfortunately.

Re: Talking Point: Cloud Gaming On Switch – The Pros And Cons Of The Cloud

Mii_duck

I've tried Control twice. Last night on graphics mode, sat about eight foot from the router. Ran fine, clear with only a tiny bit of occasional stutter (camera control was way too sensitive though!)

Tonight using performance mode, sat in the same place... it was horrendous, pixelated and blocky, like watching a VHS tape. Couldn't make out a thing when using melee attack.

And this is a shame. I've no objections to cloud games, especially if we get games the Switch normally couldn't run (and I would have bought Control) but there is just no point if they run so badly they are unplayable on my Wi-Fi.

Can't help but wonder if the Switch is up to this - I learned long ago not to even attempt to watch videos on the eshop.
My worry is it's going to create two tiers of Switch gamers, those who can get the big new games on cloud and those who can't, who get left behind.

Re: The Switch Version Of The Outer Worlds Is Getting A Patch Next Week

Mii_duck

@Rohanrocks88

I played though AC3 after the patch. Didn't experience any of the audio issues that were widely reported.
There was some graphical pop-in and the textures aren't great, but I wouldn't say there was anything that negatively impacted on the experience, for me at least.
If you fancy the game (as a game I found it 'OK to 'good', nowhere near as enjoyable as AC4) then I'd say go for it, don't let the pre-patch reviews put you off.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (September 5th)

Mii_duck

@dartmonkey - will there be a write-up about the Atari VCS somewhere?
I'd love to read it as it was my first console as a child, I can still remember the excitement of hiring a game for the weekend from my local toy store.
Favourites were Pitfall, Empire Strikes Back (the colour of the sky!) And the driving game - not pole position, Night Driver or something?

Re: CD PROJEKT Takes On Pokémon GO With The Witcher: Monster Slayer

Mii_duck

@EmmatheBest - I've played Witcher 3 without having touched the first two.

Of course you miss a little history of the characters (and the odd reference made in dialogue to past events) but it's not a deal breaker, reviews cover enough of what Witchers are, and you can pretty much pick up the relationships as you go.

I really wouldn't let that be the reason you don't play it.

Re: Soapbox: I’m Super Excited About The Future Of Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Mii_duck

@NintendoPok - I've 390 hours in Skyrim, 150 in Breath of the Wild, 215 in Witcher 3, 130 in Assassin's Creed Black Flag etc etc so yes, I am aware of other games.

This article is an opinion piece, and as many have commented here and elsewhere New Horizons is missing many features of previous games, so it's not a lone option.

It's not a rant or major complaint, but yes, some of us are speculating what else may be added in. It's part of the fun of the game, not pointless or dumb.

Re: Review: Space Invaders: The Invincible Collection - 40 Years Of History In One Package

Mii_duck

42 years? 42?

When I were a nipper, my mum and dad used to go to a pub on Saturday nights to meet up with friends. After we'd finished playing on our bikes between the trees next to the pub, me and the friends kids would go inside to play on the tabletop version of Space Invaders. I can still remember the sounds of the game, and the smell of the room.

It was such a step up when Space Invaders got replaced with Donkey Kong... and here we are now, casually playing Witcher 3 and Doom...

Re: Civilization VI's New Frontier Update Is Live, And Some Players Are Having Issues Again

Mii_duck

@dartmonkey - I don't think NintendoLife covered this, but Saints Row IV had similar problems. Some players (myself included) can't even get to the menu screen without it crashing during loading. The only solution - a quick Google found this is a common problem - is to turn on flight mode before starting the game, which you can't do if playing docked. (You can turn airplane mode off once it's loaded and remove the joycons to play docked.)
There is also one item of clothing in the DLC that crashes the game if you scroll past it or try and select it.

Volition issued a patch a few weeks ago, but it didn't cure it, for me at least though reports say the DLC is now visible to those who couldn't see it to start with.

Re: Recovering Your Animal Crossing: New Horizons Save Data From Nintendo Is A One-Time-Only Deal

Mii_duck

@sanderev - thank you muchly for finding and posting that, I'll quote it again -

"This game does not currently support the ability to transfer your save file from one Nintendo Switch console to another. However, a function specific to Animal Crossing: New Horizons to move users and save data to another console is planned for later this year."

That answers my main concern.

As for save files - I lost 600 hours of New Leaf on the 3DS when my SD card corrupted. The situation on Switch is no worse. Or better.

Re: Explore A Futuristic Open World In Cloudpunk, Coming To Switch This Year

Mii_duck

We do have a right to choose what we play, but for men that's rarely a worry in a game. I don't have a female perspective - I'm not faced with the choice of having to play as another gender or miss out completely on a game - or more realistically be a bit sad I can't be represented.

I didn't have a problem being Lara in Tomb Raider and I played Saint's Row 3 with a female character (Skyrim too on my second play through, as a female dark elf).
But even so, being a male character is the industry norm and I don't think that's fair. It's not a case of 'if you don't like it, don't play', that isn't realistic - and a man boo hooing because he has to play a female character is risable in the extreme.

Re: Plot Your Escape From The Complex, An FMV Sci-Fi Thriller Coming To Switch In March

Mii_duck

The interactive movie thing appealed to me, so I bought Late Shift.

I played it through making the choices that felt right to me... and got a bad ending.

Which is OK, but I made my choices and don't feel like playing through again making choices that aren't right for my personality just to get a different ending.

It's both a strength and weakness of these sort of games - the production values are great and I can imagine some would enjoy the set-up and replay a lot. But they aren't for me.

Re: PlatinumGames Wants To Bring The Complete Bayonetta Series To Other Platforms

Mii_duck

If Nintendo recouped their investment I don't see a problem with Platinum (ultimately in business to make money) wanting to take Bayonetta to other platforms. Bayonetta 2 can't be selling in significant numbers anymore? This wouldn't hurt sales on Switch.

Maybe make 3 a timed exclusive - 1 (again) & 2 would drum up more interest in the Switch if it's the only way to play 3 for now.

Surely a bit of sharing (like Cuphead) is only a good thing for all gamers, and could lead to even better things in future.
