EA's FIFA 21 has reclaimed the top spot in the UK charts for the week ending December 26th, dethroning the previous top dog, Assassin's Creed Valhalla. FIFA 21 sold 8% more physical copies compared to last week.
The embattled Cyberpunk 2077 slumped to eight place (it was third last week), and several evergreen Switch titles also saw their sales totals drop – but, unlike CD Projekt's title, they rose up the charts instead of falling.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons shot from fifth place to third, despite its sales falling by 20% compared to last week. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe also jumped up the chart to fourth, even though it sold 8% less than last week. Ubisoft's Just Dance 2021 shed 28% of its sales yet rose one place to seventh, as did Super Mario 3D All-Stars (up to ninth, despite a 25% slump) and the Switch version of Minecraft (up to tenth from eleventh after losing 26% of its sales week-on-week).
Here's a look at this week's top ten all formats chart:
Last Week | This Week | Title |
---|---|---|
4 | 1 | FIFA 21 |
1 | 2 | Assassin's Creed Valhalla |
5 | 3 | Animal Crossing: New Horizons |
7 | 4 | Mario Kart 8 Deluxe |
3 | 5 | Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War |
6 | 6 | Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales |
8 | 7 | Just Dance 2021 |
3 | 8 | Cyberpunk 2077 |
10 | 9 | Super Mario 3D All-Stars |
11 | 10 | Minecraft (Nintendo Switch) |

The UK gonna UK.
Really surprised Konami haven't put Pro Evo on Switch yet.
bought used fifa from kijiji. couldn't be happier
Another impressive week for Switch.
@Anti-Matter
You aren't doing a very good job then cause you keep bringing it up!
You don't like the Just Dance games, we get it.
Maybe get on to the people who make the games you do like about releasing more but it isn't Ubisoft's fault or the people who do like the Just Dance games.
@TheFullAndy
I don't even play any Just Dance games.
Just only looking at the gameplay style and songlist, i never like them in the slightest. 100% Terrible.
Dance Dance Revolution and Dance Evolution by Konami are miles way better than Just Dance games.
DDR and Dance Evolution are two genius games with miles way better songlist.
@Anti-Matter
None of the games you mention appeal to me but I don't see the point in slagging off a game series when you haven't even played any of the games.
Also "I pretend Just Dance doesn't even exist or even disturbing me" would be more believable if you didn't comment specifically about it.
A lot of people are enjoying the Just Dance game and it is no coinicidence this years version has sold better than it has for a while as people are stuck indoors and it gives them some joy. That can only be a good thing.
@Anti-Matter both DDR and JD suck, the only current rythem action game worth playing is Beat Saber - and with an active mod scene the track listing is pretty cheap endless if you play on PC. Unfortunately I'm on PSVR so no custom tracks, I've yet to get bored with the track listing but I only play in short bursts
@TheFullAndy
And thus i pretend Just Dance didn't even exist so whatever happened to Just Dance games, i don't even care with their existences. They can keep making terrible games with terrible songlist all the time and i don't care.
Btw, if i want to play Just Dance, the songlist must be killer as Dance Dance Revolution and with better choreography.
Just take a look Dance Evolution from XBOX 360 by Konami.
@AndyC_MK84
The problem is there is NO better Rhythm games as Dance Dance Revolution on current gen consoles as Konami completely abandon all Rhythm games on consoles. They put on mobile instead, with worse performances.
I really really want DDR returns on consoles, not that Western rhythm games with horrible Western mainstream songs.
I don't even like songs by Pitbull, Sean Paul, Kanye West, LMFAO, Nicki Minaj, etc.
They are really horrible for my ears.
Seems like an argument about nothing. Dancing games 🤷🏻♂️😆
@ChaosBadger777
You have no idea how beautiful playing DDR with masterpiece songs from BEMANI teams. I have been playing DDR for 17 years, no jokes.
As FYI, BEMANI teams have several dedicated artist with very awesome songs such as AFRONOVA / MAX 300 / Fascination MAXX by Naoki Maeda, ride on the Light (Hi Great Mix) / Airflow / Fly Through the Night / Xenon by Tomoyuki Uchida, Kakumei / AA / No. 13 / Trill Auf G by Takayuki Ishikawa, etc. And from commisioned artist such as DM Ashura songs (Delta MAX, Your Angel, Go! Mahalo Mix), Jakazid (Pierce the Sky on DDR X2), MAX 300 Super Max Me Mix by Jondi & Spesh.
@AndyC_MK84
"the masses do tend to enjoy dancing around to trash."
Well... That's a tragedy for me to see a lot of peoples enjoy something worse.
@TheLightSpirit
I never like soccer too.
The most unattractive sport ever in my opinion.
I prefer watching Baseball for team sports or K-1 (Kickboxing in Japan) for combat sports.
Ubi should have made AC Valhalla as a streamed game on Switch. Basically became the new game to play over Christmas.
Just put it up like Control and HitMan3 - give the option for people who want it but do not have the hardware like on PC.
Until Just Dance Motorhead, Rammstein, Nine Inch Nails or Metallica editions appear, I'm out.
Argument about dance simulation games shouldn't exist. Pick your own poison and be on your way.
@Mii_duck a "Mosh Mosh" game would be awesome, it would have to include some Nu-Metal though for that late 90's early 00's flavour!
I lost a tooth my first time in a pit when Korn's f***t erupted.
@TheLightSpirit i know this is UK only, but it's not just the British though, FIFA does well around Europe, better in Britain than anywhere else in Europe though.
@Agramonte yeah they tried that with Odyssey and as decent as Odyssey was, it just didn't do well as streaming only game for the Switch. Which really, isn't a bad thing.
Personally i wouldn't touch them either and i could be wrong, but i think im in a clear majority on this one, especially when it comes to the Switch.
I mean, a dead give away is the absolute radio silence you get after one of these games drops. If they were some huge runaway success, you would know about it.
If even 10% of Switch owners streamed Odyssey on the Switch, Ubisoft would have made some noise about that, they'd have put Valhalla and every other AC game for the last 6 years on the Switch available to stream. But that didn't happen.
Thankfully.
I enjoyed the extra detail and stats in this week’s UK Chart article, appreciated @NintendoLife, thank you!
I mentioned this before, but Just Dance 2021 looks to be the fastest-selling 3rd party Switch game in the UK.
@westman98 I always look forward to your contribution each week for these chart and sales articles, thank you.
@GrailUK well its not huge surprise. PES didn't do well in 3ds or even Wii. But its sad
@dimi I have faith in Konami in 2021 on Switch.
@AndyC_MK84 Indeed. They were up there with some of the best games ever made. Mind you, much of their arcade history is coming to Switch (courtesy of Hamster. Waiting with baited breath for The Main Event) so it's not all bad.
Kind of amusing how the comments section kicked off about the dream of a DDR-comeback tour. A highly unlikely venture though.
Going back to the Top 10, seems like the regular, expected entries this time of year although I guess word of Cyberpunk has spread; although I’d need to see a worldwide chart of sales to see if the majority of potential sales were in the first 2 weeks; and how many refunds were enacted.
@Bizaster
And you are just a bit sad and pathetic.
@TheLightSpirit "Ireland is not a soccer nation"?? Gotta disagree with you there. Yes Gaelic Football is more popular but that does not mean this country is not fanatical about soccer. Its the 2nd most popular sport here. And FIFA is hugely popular here too.
@westman98
Any idea of the platform split for the game?
You are usually in the know!
@TheFullAndy
The Switch version accounted for 89% of Just Dance 2021 sales at launch. I can't imagine things have changed too much since then.
@westman98
Cheers! Pretty much 5 Switch titles in the top ten then!
@TheLightSpirit
The person made a sweeping baseless statement about the people of the UK so if you agree then yeah you are.
@TheLightSpirit
You are correct they said "U.K. gamers" so still a sweeping baseless statement.
Also what has people getting angry playing Fifa online got to do with anything?! Not mentioned anywhere here until you brought it up after their comment so how can you possibly know that is what they meant?
@TheLightSpirit you said yourself you hate soccer and have no interest in the other sports either. You probably associate and play with other people who have similar interests to you so it makes sense none of your friends play or watch those sports.
Everyone I know has Sky Sports to watch the Premier League. By that same logic you used that makes soccer extremely popular here.
@blockfight
Here in Northern Ireland football is very popular, as is Fifa.
Well, can't blame people for buying an annual series game which EA simply copies and pastes for the Switch version. It's basically just expensive and glorified football merchandise.
@Anti-Matter
You don't really have a real opinion on Just Dance because you've never played it, so don't expect people to let you go easily if you keep saying it's "terrible" despite not actually knowing what the game's like. As an important note, playing a game is different from watching it, so even if you've watched the game's, you don't have a real opinion of it untill you've played it.
@TheLightSpirit
No worries bud.
@NathanTheAsian
I know how to play Just Dance.
It basically same as Dance Evolution XBOX 360 and Arcade but with horrible licensed songs.
Just by looking at song list, i don't even like at all. If the songlist was terrible, don't even think i want to play the games.
What is that songs by Nicki Minaj, Pitbull, LMFAO, Kanye West, etc ?
Ew....
Really terrible Western licensed songs.
Just compare with Dance Dance Revolution and Dance Evolution.
That's i called the REAL Rhythm games.
That's i called MASTERPIECE songs, created by Japanese artists with very unbelievable vibes.
That's why i really need new DDR games on upcoming consoles so bad.
Just Dance don't even have catchy musics like on DDR or Dance Evolution such as MAX 300, Fascination MAXX, MAX. (Period), Over the Period, Valkyrie Dimension, Votum Stellarum, B4U, etc.
I can assure you that Dance Evolution from XBOX 360 have way much better songlist than Just Dance after you watch this video.
@Anti-Matter
Yawn.
@TheFullAndy
Whatever you said but i keep pretending Just Dance is not exist so it will not bothering me because that game always have very bad songlist.
@Anti-Matter
And you are still doing a horrible job of pretending it does not exist, because you keep talking about it!
Regardless, have fun partying on into the new year on your DDR mat!
@TheFullAndy Northern Ireland have a decent team at the minute too.
@blockfight
The team has certainly been punching above its weight the last few years, getting to the last Euros was amazing!
Unfortunately we lost our great manager Michael O'Neill but it is good to see him turn Stoke around in the Championship.
@Anti-Matter please do not derail threads with vaguely-related discussions.
@GrailUK hope they wont go the EA route with a PS3 version
@dimi Say what you want about Konami, but with Bomberman, Contra and Momotaro Dentetsu on Switch, they are at least making games FOR the Switch. heck, they were even developing a new Track and Field before it got cancelled (shame, I would have loved that to return)
@Anti-Matter I played DDR 3rd Mix on the arcades in a mall near my home. I sucked at it but really had fun. You really had to learn the choreography to get nice scores. It was a really fun game which made you feel like you were really dancing and the songs were supperb, not only commercially acclaimed pop hits.
I hope they make new console games and bring the mats back lol
@Anti-Matter
Noted, but almost contradictory to how you said you don't play any Just Dance games.
Whatever the case may be, if you're complaining about Just Dance's music, then you're pretty much complaining about today's music basically, and I can definitely see your point there, but Just Dance isn't to blame for crappy music if the music comes from artists.
Dance Dance Revolution may be more rhythm-oriented, but did it become as successful as a painstakingly-milked franchise that's based all around simplicity? If you really do like DDR more than JD, that's your opinion. Agree to disagree with people who like Just Dance more.
