Re: You'll Need A Bethesda Account To Play DOOM And DOOM II On Switch

Mii_duck

@KingPatrick24 - I had a similar problem, every time I tried to create an account in the game I got an error message.

I tried the website, but no confirmation email arrived. However, I tried the username and password I'd selected and the game accepted it.

Utterly stupid, user unfriendly way of doing things.

Re: Video: Ciri And Yen From The Witcher Netflix Series Read Fan Reactions To The Teaser Trailer

Mii_duck

Dear NintendoLife,

I wish to complain about voluntarily wasting minutes of my life reading posts by people who wasted minutes of their life complaining about voluntarily wasting minutes of their life reading an article they have no interest in.

Also, why oh why base a televisual (internetual?) series on a rich series of books and short stories rather than a game? I for one would like to see a whole episode dedicated to side quests and working out how to use a crossbow.

Re: Anniversary: Pokémon GO Turns Three Years Old Today

Mii_duck

I got to level 36, then a few weeks ago decided I just wasn't having fun with it.

It was great while it lasted though. I live in a smallish town (pop. around 22,000) and there are gyms and stops everywhere, I used to enjoy my little walk everyday to collect gifts etc.
Slowly got to know the local PoGo Facebook group too (not that I'm on FB) - I'd see the same faces... well, tops of heads looking at their phones - walking around town, got chatting and eventually we'd meet up for raids and ex-raids, messages would go out asking if anyone was doing xxxx raid at xxxx.

Cool too, having a record of places you've visited in the country, the gyms and stops spun. The local group used to have a 'don't knock people out a gym unless they've been in for eight hours' rule but human nature being what it is, that descended into conflict. Another reason to quit.

And... it became the same old same old. Nothing new in the raids, same old 'mon for the weekly bonus - it became a bore and a chore rather than a pleasure.

I confess though, I've started playing Wizards Unite instead...

Re: Animal Crossing: New Horizons Will Not Support Cloud Saves

Mii_duck

Ah, I can still remember the creeping horror when I realised my 3DS SD card had corrupted and I'd lost 650 hours of Animal Crossing.
Though to be fair I was pretty much done with the game by then, in some ways it was a relief to break the chore/habit of going in every so often to make sure Walt wasn't moving out.

Re: The First Patch For Saints Row: The Third On Switch Rolls Out Later This Week

Mii_duck

@OorWullie - I'm nine hours in, playing docked. I honestly can't say the framerate has bothered me, it seems perfectly serviceable. Neither have I seen much slowdown yet, certainly nothing as bad as certain areas in LA Noire.

I'm not particularly 'high maintenance' when it comes to framerate and pop-in etc, so maybe I'm more tolerant than most. (As someone who started out on a Spectrum and Amiga.) OK, the graphics aren't state of the art, but moments like standing on your penthouse balcony, looking over the city at night and down at the cars and pedestrians moving around are still impressive to me.
There is a lot going on at street level, and the driving can be frantic so there isn't a lot of time to find fault with the scenery when you're tearing around.

I'm enjoying the game, it's a giggle and I don't regret the purchase.

I've had two crashes, both when accessing my crib, so my advice is always save first!

Re: UK Charts: Saints Row: The Third Has Decent Switch Launch, Big Names Stand Firm At The Top

Mii_duck

@Gs69 - yep. There are optional side missions to do like stealing certain cars or assassinations, but also things to stumble over as you explore. Buy shops, customise cars, attack gangs etc.

As for reviews - the graphics aren't amazing and won't blow you away, but they're perfectly serviceable. Can't say framerate or slowdown has bothered me either. You're usually too busy to worry!

Aiming your weapons is a touch annoying, trying to be accurate but you can alter the speed in settings. In eight hours play I've had two crashes, both when accessing my crib.

Basically, if you aren't just looking for a game to 'wow' you visually, if the premise sounds like fun then go for it.

Re: Review: Saints Row: The Third - The Full Package - The Next Best Thing To Grand Theft Auto On Switch?

Mii_duck

I'm a couple of hours in, playing docked and so far it's all been fine. No noticeable slowdown and can't say the framerate bothers me. I haven't played it on any other console, but for me the graphics seem serviceable enough on Switch. Not mind blowing (on a tangent - Hellblade on Switch is just amazing) but good enough.

Had one crash when I tried to access my 'crib' but that's it.

Aiming isn't the easiest, but you can fiddle about in the settings to improve that.

So far I'm happy with the purchase, I'm enjoying it - the pace of the action and the humour.

Re: Review: My Time At Portia - An Engaging Life Sim That Will Eat Up Your Spare Time

Mii_duck

@TempOr - that made me smile happily.

I have friends in a same sex relationship who went the adoption route, their excitement at the arrival of the little one was amazing and beautiful to witness.

I'm a straight man, but I wish for a world where there was more acceptance for love and stable relationships, regardless of sexuality/gender.

As a father I see broken (heterosexual) relationships at the school gates regularly - I'd much rather see a child raised in a happy environment, regardless of the orientation of their parents.

Re: Hands On: Getting Our Hands Dirty With My Time At Portia On Switch

Mii_duck

@vorpal - I admire your calm restraint there! I had to check the clock to make sure we hadn't gone back a few hundred years.

As a straight man I welcome games having the option of same sex relationships, I'd hope it'd help show kids that there is nothing 'wrong' with that or that it's a - and I can't believe I'm quoting this - "mental illness".

Re: Hold Tight As TT Isle of Man Races To Switch This May

Mii_duck

I was massively excited to learn of this game - riding around the real TT course!

But then I read the Pushsquare review (apparently there is this new niche console called a PlayStation?) and... this is going to be another V-rally style let down, isn't it?

Re: Snooker 19 Pots A Spring Release On Switch, New Details And Trailer Shared

Mii_duck

@RyanSilberman (and @JaxonH to an extent) -

Snooker is similar to pool in that you use a cue to hit balls, but the game is different to all forms of pool. It's played on a larger table, 12 foot by six, and is, more of a slow burn sometimes, more tactical. Or dull, depending on your view point. Personally I love it.

Put very basically you start with 15 reds in a triangle and six coloured balls of increasing value on spots.

A red is worth one point, you have to at least hit a red on your first visit to the table and once you pot a red you can go for a colour, black being the highest at seven points. Then another red, then colour, then red etc, then finally (it's very rare to make a total clearance) the colours in order.

Highest points wins the frame.

Re: Feature: The Best Racing Games On Nintendo Switch

Mii_duck

Is Mario Kart 8 DX really a racing game though?

I hate to sound like an old curmudgeon or poor player, but the whole shell thing ruins it for me, I just don't see the fun in racing and getting to the front if it can all be undone by a random shell.

Re: Here's Your First Look At Some Lovely GRID Autosport Switch Screenshots

Mii_duck

Isn't this the mobile version though?

David Stephen, Managing Director of Feral Interactive -

"GRID Autosport's AAA production values and deep yet accessible gameplay will make it a fantastic addition to the Nintendo Switch. Following its success on iOS, we're thrilled to bring it to Switch players."

So it's the iOS version if I'm reading that right?

Re: Review: Fight Of Gods - A Comically Bad Crossover That Nobody Asked For

Mii_duck

Hmm. I do not believe in a God, but neither do I consider myself an atheist. Being an atheist seems a contradiction - having a belief system built around opposing something you don't believe in.

I'd rather think - I'm open minded, so prove it to me, and until then I'll choose to be sceptical.

It is a fact that the Bible has been rewritten several times to suit the needs of the influential and powerful of those times, and as such it shouldn't be taken as gospel.

But... if someone has a faith, if that helps them in life, then let them have their personal belief system without scorn, as long as they aren't pushing a 'one twue way' on others.

Re: Video: Watch The Official Reveal Of Mortal Kombat 11 - Live!

Mii_duck

Hmmm. It looks amazing and I loved the first game (on the Amiga) but now... I dunno, it just seems the law of diminishing returns, the ever increasing gore. It gets boring.

Just a straight fighting game please, no fireballs or other malarkey. Dead or Alive would very much suit, I really enjoyed the 3DS version.

Just speaking personally of course, I'm very happy the Switch gets MK11.

Re: Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen Is Slashing Its Way To Nintendo Switch This April

Mii_duck

@ThanosReXXX - I confess I may have had a cheeky glass of wine - but yes, RPGs are my thing and I'm very much looking forward to this one.

Sometimes it's the flaws that make a P̶e̶r̶s̶o̶n̶ game interesting. Reaches for the bottle again.

Your enthusiasm and @JaxonH 's is endorsement enough, you two post without agenda and that's appreciated by us casual readers.

Hic.

Re: Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen Is Slashing Its Way To Nintendo Switch This April

Mii_duck

I'd not heard of this game before today, but I'm suddenly very excited by it.

Reading reviews it seems flawed - but the flaws seem like, while absolutely should be mentioned in a review, something a buyer could accept and live with.

I sometimes wonder what the young me would have made of open world games like Skyrim (630 hours played on Switch), the young me who was stunned at the advance of Donkey King Jr over Donkey Kong as a child.

Yet here we are now, these amazing games yet we still notice they aren't perfect, and bemoan 'ports'.

Rather like relationships, I don't care about your past or where you came from - I'll embrace your flaws and just celebrate that you're with me now.

Re: Review: Fitness Boxing - Rhythm Trappings Help This Limber Wii Fit Successor Land Its Punches

Mii_duck

I'm insanely sceptical about the calorie count, having played the demo.

But it's fun, if you treat it as an interactive rhythm game. It's not going to teach you how to box (Tis very different trying to actually hit someone) but it's a giggle.

From the demo, the music isn't that important either, it fades into the background as the instructor shouts over it.

I'd buy it at half price, you will get a bit of a sweat on, and it's satisfying pulling off combinations.

Re: Feature: A Recap Of Nintendo Life Reviews In 2018

Mii_duck

@antdickens - cheers for that, I love a good set of statistics.

And I really rather enjoy this site. The you're doing it wrong-ers may be the loudest rattle, but I've always found it a genuinely warm place to ask questions and discuss games - there are some really good people here who are happy to talk and exchange information and opinion. It's a good place. It's also the first place I come to for reviews.

So a happy new year to you and yours, and to all who are open on here to chat and discuss the games.

And the ones who moan about something being clickbait but read anyway, to those who say a review or review score is wrong without having played the game - may your mirror reflect back how others see you.

Re: Nintendo-Published Fitness Boxing Gets Free Demo On Switch eShop, Full Pricing Revealed

Mii_duck

My wife has just looked up, took one look at the trainer and said "where have all her clothes gone?"

"Um, I unlocked a new outfit, I just wanted to see what the shorty short shorts and crop top looked like, in the interests of fully researching the game."

Anyway... I haven't really noticed the music, the trainer talks almost constantly and I've been concentrating on the combos. It's more like lift Muzak.

Re: Nintendo-Published Fitness Boxing Gets Free Demo On Switch eShop, Full Pricing Revealed

Mii_duck

It's actually quite a good giggle - but maybe not £40s worth, unless you genuinely are going to do a 30 minute work-out every day.

The music is instrumental, fairly in the background and you have the trainer shouting over it all the time anyway - which may get very repetitive.

OK, it's not the same as going to a proper fight class, but to be honest I used to get a bit bored of being punched in the face during sparring. Games don't hit back.

Re: Nintendo Is Currently Recruiting For A New 3D Legend Of Zelda Game

Mii_duck

@Spectra - "Anything but another BOTW please. Or if they must, it'd be nice if they remembered to actually put something in their open world this time..."

I didn't have that feeling at all, quite the opposite (though of course your opinion is just as valid as mine).

A lot of words have been said about the 'triangle' system they developed in the game design, where you can always see three points of interest wherever you are.
I'd come home from work some days with a little plan of what I wanted to achieve in my little slice of free time, but instead spent time just exploring the world, just looking around, just because.

I found it a little brain cleaner, a reset if you will, a chance to chill.

Having said that, I've spent four times the amount of hours in Skyrim on Switch that I spent in BotW, and I can see how Skyrim is more packed with things to do, but it doesn't have the beauty and vibe of Zelda.

Re: Saboteur! Brings Retro Ninja Action To The Switch eShop Next Week

Mii_duck

I had tingles reading this article! Saboteur was one of my favourite games on the ZX Spectrum, it was so atmospheric right from the start when you arrive on the dinghy. (Hold on... Saboteur is Snake's dad?)

Finding the train and the helicopter in the article screenshot felt like real, amazing events - simpler times and game pleasures back then!
And I think I'll leave this for memories, it could never feel the same now.

Re: Horizon Chase Turbo Speeds Onto Switch At The End Of The Month

Mii_duck

Hmmmm.

I love driving games, Outrun, Lotus Challenge etc... but I got bored of the whole just go left/right thing - actually I moved away from gaming altogether.

It was a yellow TVR Cerberus drifting at night, the freedom of movement, in a TV advert for Gran Turismo on the PlayStation (1) that got me back into gaming. This was a dream come true - real car physics.

So not for me, but I'm glad these sorts of games are still being made and that the audience is still there.

Re: Random: Bowsette Has Been Recreated By Fans In The New SoulCalibur Game

Mii_duck

@antdickens -

I hope it was clear my previous post was in sarcasm!
I find it a little tiring, the whines that the site isn't how some people feel it should be.

So, from someone who visits the site everyday and is able to decide if an article is one I would like to read and doesn't mind if it isn't - it'll appeal to someone, thank you (and the rest of the team) for all the hard work.

It is appreciated.

Re: Random: Bowsette Has Been Recreated By Fans In The New SoulCalibur Game

Mii_duck

Dear NintendoLife.

I wish to make a complaint. I, of my own free will, spent a minute or two reading an article on your free website about something I'm not interested in and knew I wouldn't like.

Please, in future tailor all articles to my personal preferences and specific definition of news or I will be compelled to spend more minutes of my life moaning about it in comments.

Furthermore, could you please consult me before you give a game a review score, even though I haven't played it. I'm convinced you are doing it wrong.

Many thanks in advance.
