Update: Just to avoid any doubt, Hitman developer IO Interactive has reconfirmed that the upcoming Hitman 3 will launch on Switch on 20th January alongside other versions of the game – in its Cloud Version form, of course.
Original Article (Tue 15th Dec, 2020 11:30 GMT): The official opening cinematic for Hitman 3 has been released, giving us another juicy tease of things to come when the trilogy finale arrives on Switch.
If you need a quick catch-up, Hitman 3 will be the third and final instalment of the World of Assassination trilogy after Hitman and Hitman 2. It'll launch on Switch in January alongside other versions, but Switch owners will have to make do with a cloud version – meaning you'll have to stream this one to your console with a solid internet connection, rather than being able to download the game itself.
The trailer shows the series' famous star Agent 47 leaping into action in Dubai. We'd argue there's a decent chance that this could end up being the setting for the game's first sequence, but we'll have to wait and see.
If you missed the original announcement trailer, you can also give that a watch below.
Are you excited to see Hitman on Switch for the first time, even if it is just a cloud version? Will you be giving it a go when it launches next year? Tell us below.

Bracing for all of the cloud hate, but im genuinely excited to play the bigger releases on Switch and hopefully cloud gaming will take off and we can get a subscription service like GamePass on Switch.
The Hitman games always look cool, but I've never tried one myself. Maybe having one on the Switch will convince me to go for it
...or I can wait 10 years and be a moody bald man myself, either option works 🤷♂️
Nah, not for me thanks. I like my game to come in a box with a playable version of the game straight off the cart.
I'm an archaeologist and often work abroad for a few weeks at a time in places that still have steam trains let alone decent internet. I'm lucky to get dial up.
No physical = no purchase for me
(Unless I used my Nintendo reward points from registering the carts)
“ It'll launch on Switch on 20th January 2021 alongside other versions..”. Wait, what!!! I did not know that. In the announcement it just said coming soon or something like that..
Not for me. Getting it on series x
Could never get into these games. Got Hitman 2 free on Stadia, must give it a whirl and see if they've changed much in recent versions.
I'll pass.
I don't understand why they bother with these cloud games on the Switch, i mean if any was a blockbuster hit that millions of people wanted to play, we would of heard something about it.
When something is successful, you tend to hear snippets of news on its success.
We haven't heard a single peep from any cloud game that has EVER been released on the Switch after it gets released.
You'd have thought that the companies would just give up on the idea, but i guess they all want to have a go before declaring that horse dead.
Maybe they should make some sort of cloud gaming app(a la psnow), instead of releasing them one by one.
I've no problem with cloud gaming in principle, but sadly Control showed that my Internet/Switch combo isn't robust enough to make it worth it.
A shame, because I'd love to play both this and Control.
Wonder if there is any chance of older Hitman games coming on Cart or download?
No thanks, ‘Cloud’.
@Razer Thankfully there is a middle ground between blockbuster hit and abject failure. These cloud games seem to be falling somewhere into that space which is apparently good enough reason for the devs to get a cloud version up and running.
I am NOT buying a game that I will NEVER own! Cloud gaming will just make devs lazy on Switch. Control is virtually unplayable and has so many glitches it is pointless. Cloud gaming is bad for gamers in general. Here, have my money but don’t give me anything in return! Great for the publishers as they rake it in but lets just see devs working hard to get greta games running rather than taking the easy way out.
@Indielink Cloud just means easy money for least effort.
It is a start. Hopefully GeforceNow and Shadow PC get on Switch (Maybe make it you need NSO so Nintendo makes some cash) Where it is your own PC game collection, not something you buy on a service.
Played Cyberpunk 2077 over Geforcenow when I was away this weekend and it worked great. And my progress was waiting for me on my PC via GOG cloud save when I came home.
GeforceNow can get shut down and it has nothing to do with my games and saves. Happy to stream that way.
It's a shame there's no 'downgraded' physical game, because I'd have been interested then.
We're just not there yet internet speed wise, everyone's spec is wildly different and everyone lives different differences from exchanges. One day this will be the way we play, but it's just a few years early right now.
Having said that, the more they keep trying, the more the infrastructure will improve. Eventually we'll be playing RDR2 on the London Underground on the iPhone 17!
Still kind of surreal to be on the Switch boards and hearing about a game like Hitman.
I still don't like the implementation of weird small-fry streaming services being used, though. At least if it was Nintendo-hosted or one of the major vendors there's some assurance it will remain available long-term. Paying full price for game rentals services doesn't seem like a healthy format.
Maybe because it's Hitman, I'll give it a try on Switch, Control worked well at the end. But, I have to say that I didn't like the fact that on the other two Hitman, half the game was locked under DLC.
Hitman 3 literally can’t run on Switch. They’re not being lazy here, instead they’re making it available to people who may have a Switch as their only console.
It’s better than nothing. Would you rather just have these games not come to Switch at all? That’s the alternative, Hitman III will barely run on my GTX 1060 never mind a Switch.
@SimplyCinnamon53 @nessisonett
The minimum system requirement is literally a gtx 660 for this game.
Not saying this would offer a great experience, but I am pretty sure the Switch could run this.
"Next year" you say?
It will never beat the live action hitman game:

I really wouldn't mind cloud games if companies went all out on them if they didn't charge full price for them. I would love to play all the new PS5 and Series X games on my switch as long as it doesn't take away from any actual games getting ported
Don´t think I´ll play it as it´s not my kind of game, but it´s nice to have this kind of stuff on Switch too, even if it´s in the cloud.
I wish they'd give you the option for a PC version bundled with the cloud version.
@Mii_duck
SAme for me I find control uncontrollable the lag was unbearable
It’s pathetic to see people cry over cloud gaming, which is totally avoidable. The choice should be here for people who want to try cloud gaming.
No thank you. No thank you.
I would have preferred a port of an older one, such as Absolution. Not wild about playing in the cloud, plus the financial fleecing that may occur with it.
I’m sure there’s no way Hitman 3 could run natively on the current Switch, so I’m guessing they want to cash on the base while it’s white hot. Maybe a generation or two down the road, I’ll be enjoying a Hitman collection on the Switch someday. In the meantime, it’ll be a game to purchase on my Series X when it’s on sale. Too many good games coming up with Mario 3D World, Bravely Default II and Persona 5 Scramble.
Don't understand why they don't just do a proper port. I refuse to support any of this cloud nonsense! I'm voting with my wallet.
@Guest88 the industry wants to get rid of local gaming and move 100% to the cloud though and if enough of us refuse it then they won't be able to do it.
Stuff like Hitman I don't mind. But if Smash or a Mario games goes on Cloud then I am done with gaming. Those games I need to somehow keep either physicl or digital.

For full price, I'd rather get it physical. With psnow/xcloud, Nintendo wanted some of that streaming action. But going about it, in an individual basis, isn't the way. Those other services work, cause it's subscription based.
@Kimyonaakuma just make sure when you get the barcode tat, it doesn't scan as a tin of beans
@russell-marlow what's wrong with a streaming service on Switch?
I'm not a fan of this pay to stream per game, but £10 a month to stream a constantly evolving library of games on Switch (like gamepass) - sign me up
@Mr-Fuggles777
“ what's wrong with a streaming service on Switch?”
Some people hate change I guess.
I have a data cap, so this is a hard pass for me.
Hitman cloud! Meh...
@iulis84 I don’t think you can compare W3 and hitman 3. Try running them both on a pc and you’ll notice W3 runs on a patato.
I'm excited as my pc struggled with Hitman 2 so being able to play it on a system other than that I own is nice (I may have to eventually upgrade the pc, but it's not feesable right now) I hope my potato Internet connection will let me stream it!
@Shinden unless more games want to stream onto the switch, they probably won't. Atm there's not enough to justify a full service
I see they've got Control discounted to £24.99 already, just a month or so after release, so I guess that most consumers aren't as easily duped as they'd hoped.
Knock another tenner off to make it £14.99 (the actual value) and a few more might bite.
The last 2 hitman games are up there with the best games I have played. All about the replayability and working out how to kill the targets in the most clever ways.
Not into the cloud games though - have a series x - which is a sensational console - EVERYTHING plays faster and better on it - so getting it on that. Also it updates the previous 2 games to next gen apparently.
@nessisonett as it would, most people truly wouldn't like it to come at all, like me. I understand most people only have Switch, yada, yada, but a Ps4 now, second hand or not, is way cheaper and easier to find than a Switch. Secondly, this means more devs will take this route, because it can't "natively" run on the system, even when so many other games that weren't supposed to, like Sniper Elite 4, could, and so many others. With cuts, true, but -that- is better than nothing, not this thing they're trying to do, once again going over ownership of property by a consumer.
@Guest88 if it means not owning what you bought with your hard earned cash, yes, i guess some people do hate change. And some years ago, as now, rights were being taken left or right, and those who were taking them thought the same.
-Why are people so angry? We're just taking ownership of their property.
-Some people hate change, i guess.
@CarlosM87 Ah yes. “Ownership “.
Again Cloud. What gives and then you pay $60 for no physical game right. This is even worse then Digital games. First you have to have a ISP to get internet before even getting to Cloud access. That's what they aren't telling you. Not to mention Cloud gaming has lags if there are too many users accessing it. And some user internet may not be up to speed as well for Cloud gaming. So by the time you get the game your looking at close to $200usd to begin playing. So tell me again how smart are you.
Here's another educational video from a GameStore owner explaining why having a Physical Game is your benefit.
Digital Distribution Vs Physical Media and True Ownership

@Mr-Fuggles777 You're just supporting a practice that these companies try to lure you into so that they can give the average consumer less options later down in the future for purchasing physical games and eventually not being able to keep even digital purchases. Console gaming is looking to be going down hill once they try convince everyone that cloud gaming is better. No thanks, I'd rather not spend money to "rent" a game for an unspecified amount of time.
@russell-marlow as a subscriber to Xbox Game Pass I strongly disagree.
I'm not particularly bothered that I don't "own" a game, I have a constantly expanding library of titles to play - including all Xbox exclusives on day 1.
I personally don't see the infatuation with having to "have" a game, I've always traded a game after I've completed it anyway for something new - I already spend around £100 a month on games (and comics), I would dread to think what it would go up to if I didn't trade in.
With gamepass I can play more for less, as well as try games I didn't want to risk wasting money on - I've recently 100% both Ori games and absolutely loved every second but can hand on heart say they wouldn't have been worth the £70 entry price (£35 each) if I had to pay for them.
