The Direct was fine overall - but this announcement sucks. How can they justify charging full price for a single Wii port when they’re selling 3 Mario games for the same price?
Meanwhile, we already have 2 perfectly good remasters of substantially better 3D Zelda games, stranded on a system no one is rushing to play anytime soon.
I get why they’re doing this - Skyward Sword was the worst selling recent Zelda by a long shot and they want it to find an audience. It just should have been in a Zelda 35th Collection, instead of this really poor-value single port.
@Crockin you ask 'where's the room for a third switch model' - there's plenty of 'room' and hundreds of other companies set a precedent, including Microsoft with the Xbox One, Series S and X, and PC as their current lineup.
Considering how strong the asset quality and art style are, I’m surprising we’re managing to get 720p+ and maintaining 30fps - this game’s visuals are great, a real showcase
The outrage is perfectly justified, the line is unnecessary and shows poor foresight - I’d argue not a single individual commenting here is really in a place to decide whether it’s racist or not.
Premiere’s don’t always occur before a film’s first showing, especially in these times. Very similar to how ‘Grand Openings’ can occur weeks after a store first starts trading.
I was NOT expecting anything new from this series after the awful Switch port - the original was incredible on the DS and very well suited to the handheld.
Hopefully, if this is a new game, they'll finally built something new from the ground up! Very excited (the music usually changes every day as we get closer to the announcement on these...another reason to check back!)
@RasandeRose You're completely exaggerating and you know it - BOTW is one of my favourite games but cannot compare graphically to almost any PS4/Xbox One game, including Halo Infinite.
I mean, it kinda does. You get the multiplayer mode for purchasing the game, having it as an update doesn't mean you don't get the multiplayer mode? Maybe I'm missing the point, but I don't get why this would affect anyone's decision on whether or not the buy the game. You could say the exact same thing with 'Already own Untitled Goose Game? You don't have the multiplayer mode!'
Idk, headline seems clickbait and deliberately misleading.
You cannot possibly tell me you think the gameplay structure of WW and TP, which had fully open worlds, is at all similar to the linear direction they were heading in with SS.
Wii U players are not the majority of the market, the loudest minority rarely represent the average Switch player.
@KevvyLava So true! I suppose they could use it as an opportunity to fix some of the game's faults. In my opinion though, the issues with the game go so far to it's core design that I can't see an improved control scheme helping too much would be interesting to see how they handled it though!
If this is true, it is a complete waste of a release. They've completely pivoted the Zelda formula away from what Skyward Sword was aiming for, and no one was asking for this.
They would be better off releasing Wind Waker HD and Twilight Princess HD again, would cost them less, and they are games people actually want to play.
That’s got a great deal to do with increased household wealth, increased population, greater number of entrants in the market along with the introduction of smartphone gaming.
Does a family who bought a Pong TV game for Christmas in 1979 count as a ‘video game player’? What about if someone bought a NES and never even played it? Do they count?
Social media doesn’t create new audiences, it just reaches them differently.
Also three words for you regarding competition, especially in the US: Video Game Crash
And finally, in countries like the US and the UK, over 80% of households have a smartphone. Where you can download an almost unlimited number of free, easily accessible titles. The Switch has succeeded in the face of competition that is literally free at the point of entry.
There was also less competition, not just from other gaming companies but from other forms of entertainment including widespread internet access, which just wasn't available to most households.
Plus, the NES was supported for literally 10 years, the Switch has had less than 4
So the one thing people may be missing with this, is that while the actual cost of removing the cartridge slot is minimal, the increased profitability gained from every future game purchase being digital is a viable long-term strategy.
They could feasible charge £50 less than the original system and make that back after only a couple game purchases and a year of NSO.
@rjejr I guess Avalanche were still working on Disney Infinity 3 up until recently; at least they are giving the developers time to produce a decent quality title I suppose.

@Crockin they’ve set a precedent with DS and 3DS.

@StevenG the point being, you can play on-the-go if you so wished.
Regardless, no one is buying this game with the expectation that they don't need an internet connection.
Re: Review: Hitman 3 - Cloud Version - Not Perfect, But Perfectly Playable
@StevenG literally anywhere in your house, which is where the majority of us are spending our time rn.
Also, 4G and 5G connections are only becoming more and more commonplace.

If you've gotta get it digital, you may as well get it on Game Pass, I guess.
Re: The Wii U First Launched Eight Years Ago Today
The Wii U was a great media machine. Best way to browse the web on your TV, and had a good selection of streaming apps.
Very few other advantages - but I still passionately advocated it at the time. Gotta take the rough with the smooth I guess

@durr you mean... like the original and the previous remake?
Re: Rumour: Switch Control Options Supposedly Uncovered In Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2 Warehouse Demo
I have a sneaking suspicion it may be purely for the PC version, as Steam now has native support for the Switch Pro Controller.
Here’s hoping, though! THPS1+2 runs on Unreal Engine 4, making it an easy port!
EDIT: oh ***** they got an actual Switch in there lol nvm

Re: Rumour: Is The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword Taking To The Skies On Nintendo Switch?
@SPL64 I'll give you MM, but I don't think TP or BTOW is a fair comparison as they've released (almost) day and date with their other versions.
Regardless, the N64 sold significantly less than the Wii, so you would typically expect SS to also sell more.
Link's Crossbow Training outsold Skyward Sword, for example

Re: Rumour: Is The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword Taking To The Skies On Nintendo Switch?
@BenAV
You're right, but SS is objectively the worst-selling 3D Zelda game of all time whilst releasing on Nintendo's best-selling console of all time.
Most people, heck even most Zelda fans, were not asking for this.

@Hitman1102 to be fair, that’s a very good point. They found success while the market was left for dead!
