This is great news, and a huge indication of support from EA for Switch going forward. This is a significant investment in the Switch version and I hope the game is better for it!
Is this not just Outrun with extra steps? I've never understood the appeal? Would you not simply play a racing game that actually allows for control of your vehicle as opposed to an on-rails track? Feels like the side-step sections of recent 3D Sonic games.
The game is fine - the first Sonic was the first game I ever played, and I've thoroughly enjoyed playing through them all (15+ hours) without any technical issues whatsoever. it is no surprise that the Sonic community, which has been infamously vocal, are complaining about some largely minor inaccuracies.
@TheMelodiusRose whether you like it or not, it IS a handheld console that can hook into the TV.
You can take any metric you like, but the best example is the wattage. The Switch runs at 5W, whereas home consoles that have a constant power supply are around 200W.
It is a chipset made for mobile devices (NVIDIA Tegra).
It is running on ARM architecture, which is almost exclusively used by mobile devices.
I could go on. I love the Switch, and its impressively powerful, but it is a handheld system that just-so happens to connect to a TV. There is no way to deny that fact.
I'm glad this release is happening! The original would never have run on Switch, and neither would this. Good to see ongoing support even for games that likely won't drive big sales numbers, especially with a Cloud Version.
I love the Switch version, but they never released any of the post-Snowfall DLC so it became obsolete pretty quickly for me. Missed having landscaping options, too. Still a good version in my eyes, considering how heavy the game is on PC, and the state of the disappointing VR version.
@Obito_Sigma Sonic Mania had outside involvement from Head Cannon. The distinction here is that this supposed new game is developed by Sonic Team alone.
From memory, that might mean it’s the first game since the original Mega Drive games that they’ve fully developed in house. Sonic Advance, Rush etc were all developed by Dimps.
When you first start the online mode, it does explicitly specify you may be matched up against CPUs. This isn't surprising, and it certainly isn't news!
Is the source for this "rumour" one individual's opinion?
If so, I hear the Expansion Pass will become free, Switch Pro will come out next week for £149, and the next Zelda will be 3DS exclusive. Get the article out quick! It's my opinion, after all.
@gcunit you may not, but you're not the one pricing these games. In comparison to Nintendo's standard pricing of £49.99, or worse yet, £59.99, this is a budget-priced title in their eyes.
I'm not sure what everyone was expecting here! Wii Sports didn't exactly set a precedent for deep and nuanced gameplay. The game has a budget price here in the UK, and as a result this looks right in line with expectations. Cool!
The only selling point of the 360/PS3 version back in the day were the graphics and physics - they had some pretty cool effects when force lifting people, or force pushing a door open. Without any of that, I don’t see much value in this outside of the Star Wars brand… which itself is questionable as the story isn’t canon!
@Royalblues it likely wasn't a launch game as it doesn't support handheld mode. Would have been a confusing proposition soon after launch to have a game that isn't "switch-able".
@Thoughts this is entirely possible on Switch, and has been since launch. You can set your Online Status to display to no one, and your friends will be unable to see that you're online. That's all that this setting in the app does.
This is awesome news - been waiting to pick this up for a while, so hopefully the game will go on Sale following the Trial like Descenders a few weeks ago!
I mean, what success has Yuji Naka really had previously? He wasn't the original creator of Sonic as much as he may like to proclaim - am I missing something? Was Balan really expected to be great?
Pretty cool game - kinda feel burned by buying it at -10% off for them to only discount deeper and deeper in the weeks afterward. Can't imagine many have bought it.
@Ambassador_Kong by that logic, the Wii is the same generation as the Dreamcast?
Console generations refer to the period in which they are released, and their competitors. It doesn’t really have much bearing on their computing power.

Re: Random: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe's Sunset Wilds Is Missing One Key Thing
Is this not to do with how MK8's engine works? Lighting is pre-baked and can't be adjusted in realtime. Not that surprising.

@SuntannedDuck2 too long, didn't read

I don't know why everyone is surprised - they never said matchmaking would be available.

Re: Hogwarts Legacy Release Date Announced, Just Not For The Switch
This wouldn't have been delayed if it were indeed a Cloud Version.
Re: "Screw This Game" - Sonic Origins Modder Halts Development On Massive Patch
@Bunkerneath there is almost no comparison between this and the GTA Trilogy.
GTA crashed constantly, had flickering and accessibility issues, ran at sub-20 fps, had assets clipping and holes in the floor.
According to those (very detailed) patch notes, Sonic has a couple inaccurate pixels. I'm not sure how that compares.

Re: Review: Wreckfest - An Absolute Banger (In A Good Way)
This is one of those games that is technically impressive, and should be rewarded for being a strong port of a very demanding game.
But for the current price? Nah... but it is this exact logic that causes us to get awful Switch ports! I'm torn.

Looks decent enough when displayed on a TV, especially with customisable graphics modes and upscaling.
Really fun game, and I'm sure it will be further optimised going forward considering its in Open Beta. Would recommend!

Re: "Audacious" Zombie Army 4: Dead War Switch Port Has Been A "Nightmare" For Rebellion
@Degenerate_Mii it does include 4GB RAM. 0.5GB is reserved for the OS, while 3.5GB is available to developers.

A very welcome upgrade - makes it feel a little more built-out. It's a shame this wasn't available until 5 years after launch!
Download management would be a welcome addition for the next update.

Re: Nintendo Switch Just Had Its Biggest Sales Week Ever In The UK
@Grumblevolcano the Series S has an identity crisis? How so? It appears to be outselling the PS5 in this instance.
A next-gen system that supports up to 120fps and raytracing? For £250!? Seems like a pretty solid - and successful - identity to me.
