Back in February, it was revealed that one of 2020's biggest gaming hits, Fall Guys, was headed to Switch. It was originally going to launch for Nintendo's platform this summer, but the folks at Mediatonic have now announced that the game will be delayed.
In a statement shared on the official Fall Guys website, the developer notes that the expected summer release window is "unfortunately just too soon" for the team to make the Switch edition as good as it can be. No new release window has been provided, but you can read the full message on the delay below:
"With so many new opportunities now in our hands, we've realised that our previously announced Summer 2021 Switch and Xbox release schedule is unfortunately just too soon for us to include all of the tasty new features we're working on.
"While we want to launch on these platforms as quickly as possible, we believe the Switch and Xbox releases are really going to be worth waiting for and we’re super grateful for your patience. This delay gives our team some time to add features like crossplay, so when we add new platforms, players will be able to stumble in harmony with their pals, regardless of their platform of choice."
As you can see, it's not all bad news – the delay means that the Switch version should launch with features players would want to see like crossplay with other platforms.
Were you looking forward to playing Fall Guys on your Switch this summer? Are you happy to wait a little longer? Share your thoughts with us in the comments.

@ZeldaFanboy78
In fairness, there'll probably be an influx of players who never played the game on PC or PS4.
But just that, an influx.
I thought it already came out. Huh.
It's a port. I honestly don't feel like it's that difficult to port it by Summer.
Plenty of people still play this. I can get a match pretty quick.
@ZeldaFanboy78 Hey! I resemble that remark!
For everyone saying it's dead: it still has 10k daily players on Steam. Not trying to defend it, i too thought Among Us completely killed it, but apparently it didn't. It's just as popular as Phasmaphobia or Hunt: Showdown.
Hmm how much will it cost I really want to try it
@Hero-of-WiiU if it doesn't go free to play, it'll most likely be $20 (like how the ps4 and PC versions are).
I can wait if it mean's it will be a good port.
This game would have been significantly less successful without cross play, so probably wise to include it.
This game lived for like a week.
Oof, considering summer lasts until late September that means we will be waiting until the end of the year or possibly early 2022 before this hits switch.
Mediatonic once again doing things in a timely manner lol
@RandomGamesAndStuff you a developer, yeah?
Dang it. That sucks.
@1ofUs @ZeldaFanboy78 I don't understand why do you people say this. Some influencer or someone on the internet claims this and then a lot of people start repeating it like parrots as if you were paid a dollar for every time that you do it.
@1ofUs I can literally boot the game up right now and get into a game with 59 others in less than 10 seconds.
The trend of saying that a game is "dead" as soon as it's no longer constantly in the public spotlight is one of the most annoying things I've seen in the past few years. Mediatonic releases a big update every 1-2 months with plenty of new, quality content.
Does anyone still play this game? It was a thing last Aug but then died off.
@Ttimer5 it was free on PS4.
Faster matchmaking than mario kart 8 and splatoon 2 so must be a lot of players still playing and takes less than 10 seconds to find a game with 60 people, people on here must be really salty.
This ain't an Unreal Engine port we're talking about. It's a Unity port. What's so difficult about porting a game like this if other Unity games weren't so difficult? Once again, this makes me worry if it's gonna end up looking, and more importantly, running like Fortnite on the Switch - minimally good.
@ZeldaFanboy78 People who say games are dead just want games to be dead. Just because certain people don’t like the game doesn’t mean other people don’t.
@UltimateOtaku91 Yes exactly
"With so many new opportunities now in our hands"
Like another bulk sum of money from Sony to keep it exclusive?
@BabyYoda71 Not always true. When I go on COD WW2 now and look for a game, I can't find anything. The game outside of single player is dead.
This game however is far from that, just saying if a game has no one playing it (for real) it can be dead.
I still don't get why this game is still being developed for the Switch, they missed the hype train for this game by like a whole year.
@ZeldaFanboy78 I'm one of those people so yeah I think it'll be worth the wait
@Drake that is my definition of a game being dead
@doctorhino Yeah I agree with that. But most games that are ‘dead’ were never really that popular to begin with. Any game that was as popular as this won’t be dead for a very very very long time.
@1ofUs What the heck does that even mean? How do you get better than 60 players in 10 seconds!!??
@DAHstroy By that logic they shouldn't port any game after that time has passed and the Switch is loaded with way older and less relevant ones.
A game doesn't have to be on it's highest point to be profitable and it also gives the chance for another rise in popularity. Then again, as of now, the game is still popular and by having crossplay it allows Switch users to enjoy it without worrying about the popularity of it on the console.
I'm probably not gonna play it on switch, but I'm excited for it to release so it's easier to find matches
@jcboyer515 Okay if 60 people in 10 seconds means “dead”, what does an “alive” game mean to you?
Man, that sucks, this was the one switch release I was hyped for other than Mario golf. Is tempting to just get it on my ps4, and just buy ps plus to.
@BabyYoda71 I'm very curious, I'm going to put a dollar on bots
I just wanna know when it's going to come out so I can play it. I really like the game and would wish to be able to play it soon.
@roy130390 I guess that makes sence. .......kind of.
@YusseiWarrior3000
Yeah, my comment is a bit outdated if you haven't noticed. They really improved the stability of the fps by a lot.
@YusseiWarrior3000
Yeah, I've played it occasionally and it's MUCH better than I remember it being. Funny thing is, it has a more stable frame rate than my gaming PC, because of some weird bug with Steam Big Picture mode.
