Temtem Dev Reconfirms Switch Release After Cancelling PS4 And Xbox One Versions

This actually looks alright, I may keep an eye out for it.

But the game it's MMO, Online only and no physical release, so.....

Have it on pc. It's great fun and really well designed. It doesn't feel like a knock-off while you are playing it. Probably double dip when it comes out on switch.

How is it that this game not able to run on PS4 but had worst graphics and performance than late PS3 games?

@retro_player_77 uhhh... it probably runs fine they just decided to release it on the next gens, now that they are officially on the way.

I've played a bit on PC and ... it's not that great. It's very grindy. It's advertised as an MMO but it really isn't one, well apart from the grindy part anyway. Seeing other players is not enough to qualify as a MMO. Might aswell call Sword and Shield a MMO at that point, that one at least has raids which can be done in a group.

PS4 and XB1 releases are being cancelled BECAUSE IT IS COMING TO PS5 and Xbox Series X.

Still funny how this was one of the two "new" games announced near the end of the State of Play before spending a millennium on Godfall

And apparantly they’ve dropped their development for PS4.

@Entrr_username yeah, that state of play was a very quick mixed bag of stuff that had to be shown some day. Probably mainly to show Crash 4.

If it's coming to XSX, does that not mean it will be compatible with XB1 anyway? Or is that only Microsoft published titles?

I haven't checked up on this game since the first weeks release. A friend of mine and myself were going too buy it too co-op but when we heard how exp was given we were put off by it.

And if anyone doesn't know or forgotten how it was given. If you were playing single player and fight a trainer. lets say after the battle and you gain 500 exp. That is split between your team so you use your two temtems they both get 250 exp.

Now in co-op you you and your team mate will take down the same trainer but only control one temtem each and after the battle you gain 250 exp each. That is where the problem is. For fighting in co-op you gain half the exp you would compared to single player and you couldn't refight trainers. So by doing co-op you were nerfing yourself when you went back to single player.

Now this happened during the first week of the game when I was keeping an eye on the game and all this could have been fixed.

I don't get why they just don't use back compat. I don't have the game but it looks simple and can run on Switch, did they get paid to go next-gen only? Probably hurting their sales for what is probably a tiny bit of optimization.

@Anti-Matter honestly i'm leery of anything mmo because the realities of that structure has been so often the kiss of death of so many games and concepts already because so many of them crash as soon as they don't get the player base for them to be viable.

@Ultrasmiles I don't think any PlayStation owners thought they were getting a true Pokemon game knowing it's exclusively for Nintendo. This will be the closest any PS fans will get to Pokemon. It looks pretty good to be honest.

@Anti-Matter I agree with them being Temporary games. I have been playing FFXIV for the last 6 years and waiting for the day they stop but as far as FFXI (not played it) that still gets updates and not just bug fixes. They get items added too the game.

There last update was 2 days ago which added items and story related content.

The lack of support for PS4/Xbone is baffling when you consider BC. There's ZERO reason they couldn't have also brought this to current gen console owners.

@Coach_A That's supposed to be MS first party titles only, but judging by what they've announced recently it's probably all marketing BS anyway. Remember that E3 for X1 when we would't be able to rent or trade in games? Not quite that level, but MS does have a history of not being 100% reliable.

@Coach_A If it was developed specifically with Series X in mind then it can't be played on XB1. The Smart Delivery thing applies to first and third party titles that were released on both systems or released on XB1 prior to the next gen version. Hellblade 2 is another example of a game that doesn't have Smart Delivery because it's specifically being developed for Series X (and PC)

To be fair they said 2 years of back support, which may well indicate all those other games are beyond 2 years out. Which is fair, they just acquired the studios in the past 2 years or so, and games take 5-7 years to make these days...

I own this game on PC. It's quite cute but some of the menus and graphics remind me of a Flash Player game from the 00's. I enjoyed the battles: you spend energy on different moves, more powerful ones cost more energy so occasionally you have to 'rest' a turn to get some energy back.

But it's also incredibly grindy. I only put 10 hours in before I got bored, and I still only had about 9 or 10 different Temtem by that point. There didn't feel like there was enough variety, and the TemTem take a long time to evolve in most cases (e.g. one of the first I caught evolved super fast, but after that nothing else evolved. I then read that they don't evolve at a set level, but once you've raised them a set amount of levels, such as 36 levels up from whatever level you caught them at).

They are developing more for the game, but with a focus on higher-level areas. I kinda wish they'd go back to the earlier levels, even just to add a handful of new TemTem to encounter. It would make a big difference for me. Going through a 5-screen cavern system and only seeing the exact same Temtem as outside was pretty disappointing.

@NEStalgia I knew what MS was doing w/ the "no exclusive games" pitch, and really, if you look at PC gaming, 10 year old video cards can practically run most 2020 games, at 1 frame per second and 480x640, but they technically still work, so getting a next gen game made for 4k should still be able to run at 720p on this gen. I think where MS blew it was saying "2 years' instead of 1 year. 1 year will go by quick after we get out of lockdown, 2 years is a drag.

I never understood why they said 2 years instead of 1. I mean really, the most consoles you are going to sell year 1 is 10-12m anyway b/c they wont' manufacture any more than that, so most people will be waiting a year to get 1 anyway. Early adopters are going to early adopt, games or no games, their brains just work that way. So launch a console in Nov w/ ports, the following Nov release your heavy hitters for the holidays.

As for PS4-PS5, I've been making similar statements on about 90% of PS5 games - Why can't this run on PS4? The only standout so far is Ratchet b/c of the world hopping w/o loading screens, that's pretty nuts. I think they COULD manage it on PS4 w/ loading screens, but that could take a lot of work, so I give them that one.

God of War is worse than that, to me anyway. 1st game was only part of a game. Yeah it was great and 30 hours long just doing the story, with literally tons of side stuff to do, but it just ends w/ a cliffhanger for the second part. The Fellowship of the Ring is a great movie and book, either is long enough stand alone, but it's only the first part. The only reason it isn't currently a big deal is b/c they haven't' announced part 2 yet. And someday when all the parts are done people will be forced to admit it's 1 long game.

Squenix will be similar w/ the rest of FF7R but that wont' release until PS6 and XboxOrgy so no point talking about that now. 🤣

@Coach_A That's really weird considering both Phil Spencer at the Game Awards and Aaron Greenburg on Twitter explicitly stated it was a Series X game that was not meant to be released on XB1

@rjejr 2 years makes sense because A) Most of their exclusives were more than a year out no matter what. New studio buyouts etc. And 2 as you said, 1 year isn't much commitment.

If you have a library though next gen is a bit easier to adopt with "no games" as it's like a PC upgrade, you get all your old games running better. XSeX will enhance them to some degree, and I imagine PS5 will as well considering Pro enhanced most early PS4 games.

Yeah, what they're doing with GoW is interesting. Instead of sequels to make a trilogy they're splitting one story into a trilogy across 3 generations. Then on the PS7 they'll sell the trilogy 12k remaster.

At least with FF7 you can buy the original full story on every platform, and the remake that expands the story takes years. At least it's better than waiting 15 years for XIII-Versus. I'm hoping that the FF release schedule improves though. They don't have to design the gameplay this time so that should free up some time. I'm wondering if they'll just wait for PS exclusivity to lapse and then just start going multiplat with the others in more rapid fashion. I'm waiting for it to come out on XB to buy the first part. Squeenix stopped licking Sony's boots the moment Sony sold their stake in Squeenix....everything's been multiplat since. I imagine they signed the exclusivity at PS4 launch (Year of Dreams presentation) and regretted it after. But that probably only counts for part 1.

1 year may not be much, but 2 years is too much. They launch Nov 2020, they need new exclusive games in that dead period of Feb-August 2022. Even 18 months is a little too much. 1 year sounds nice, people will buy it and have something to look forward too. And non-early adopters can get XseX holiday 2021 when the new games launch. Everyone wins, I think.

I have it on PC and it's really fun. I love the 2 on 2 battles, the Tem Tem Designs and the overall difficulty. The dojos are really hard, and it really takes patience and strategy to win, which makes the earning the badge (I don't remember what the thing is called) worth it.
So when it comes on switch, I'll definitely be getting it on there.

Some things here definitely look better than the last pokemon games. Color me interested

PS4 and XBO aren't even dead yet and companies are already ditching them? This seems like a far cry from the days when a system was supported for roughly 5 years after its successor came along.

@MajinSoul - really no not Sword and Sheild...in Temtem you can play the whole game together including fighting bosses. Could be better MMO but it still qualifies mostly.

@lordzand Well, this might just be the closest thing to Pokémon on PS5/Xbox Series X for a long while. Besides, I'm sure new Indie games will sell on any platform. For those people who own next gen consoles, they'll probably pick it up on them and not on Switch or PC. A wide variety of games on a new console is never a bad thing.

@AnnieK Except playing in coop halfs the exp your team gets as you can only send out one Pokemon at a time compared to playing solo. The game actively discourages you from playing with others which a MMO shouldn't do ...

Too bad. PS5 and Switch is nice but Sony did hit a historic 45m PS+ users and 91m software sold for the quarter with 4/5 is 3rd party games. That is a very large potential buyer base they forgo.

Just grabbed in on PC two days ago and have already sunk in over 10 hours. The game is really good. Lots of gameplay improvements that Pokemon fans have wanted as staples for years. And the stamina system makes it unique over the PP system of Pokemon. All y’all haters in the chat should give it a chance before you comment.

Can't blame them for dropping the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Someone's gotta support the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, because every console at launch always goes through the issue of small libraries.

@retro_player_77 where did anyone say it can't run on PS4? They said it's being cancelled on PS4 and XB One and going straight to next-Gen. It has nothing to do with not being able to run on the PS4 but rather not supporting on 6 platforms and only on 4 instead since XB One and PS4 are soon to have successors on the market so why release on those 2?

Had 7 hours in the game on PC, quite thankful Steam still refunded me my money. Did not enjoy this game at all.

Don't think this is a great move. Why not make the PS4 and Xbox One versions and slap something like, OPTIMIZED WITH PS5/XBOX SERIES X! Would probably be uneccesary because both are backwards-compatible, but they didn't cancel Persona 5 on the PS3.
Edit: Forgot, there aren't any exclusives on the Series X. All of them work on the on the Xbox.

@zombi3wolf Are you aware this is not the complete game yet?? They're still developing it, but they launched it early because they decided to grow while listening to the community, directly, in order to get the best experience. By the time it comes to Switch, next year, it will be the full game, the complete experience, and then, only then, we will be able to judge it properly. Doing that right now is basically useless.

@the_beaver I don't have interest in the Switch version of this game, IMO just get pokemon for the Switch instead. For a PC-type pokemon game it just wasn't good and certainly wasn't fun, and yes I am well aware it's in very early EA since I bought it in the first week. I still didn't enjoy it at all.

You are only a blind Pokemon fan don't want anything else than the same thing year after year, doesn't matter how good it is. Fine, up to you, but some of us prefer games that intend to evolve the formula, and seeing that Gamefreak will never do it, we have to trust other devs, like these ones.

@the_beaver Why wouldn't I refund a game that I didn't enjoy? Otherwise it would be $35 wasted as I would never touch it again. Also far from a "pokemon fan", only the Switch game have I played, never touched the dlc yet and since ACNH was released haven't played anything else on my switch. Also I could just as easily call you a blind temtem fan.

I am a console gamer. I've been patiently waiting years for a current gen release on xbox. I am not going to buy a new console for temtem. I'm keeping my comment as professional as possible, but on the inside Im screaming!!
