I think... It's because Spike Chunsoft currently owns the Super Soccer IP. And Kadokawa owns Spike Chunsoft... And now Sony owns a majority of Kadokawa.
@Don You're right. Just exile yourself from all gaming media until the thing you're excited about is announced... Which you'll miss, because you have blocked yourself from all media.
I mean... I hate this.
At the VERY LEAST the credits could have a special thanks or acknowledgement to the development staff at Retro.
Even movies based on books will say "Based on the novel "Wiffle Stir" by Marcus Wiversham" or whatever in the credits.
Saying "original development staff" seems like Nintendo are very purposely not crediting them.
Here's my final prediction: Switch successor announcement between now and early February, with just a highlight video, like the 2017 Karen video. Something Pokémon related for Pokémon Day. Official presentation or Direct in March. Release between April and July //
Man, I remember the feeling I got when I first saw that trailer: I KNEW the Switch was gonna print money for Nintendo. I wish Iwata had been here to see the hard work pay off.
I would like to know Zelda's reason then lol One of the only things I dislike about the game is Zelda went from a thoughtful, emotional character in TotK to a skin for grunting, mute Link in this game.
@wiiware It's remarkably easy to settle back into the C-Button settings provided you have a NSO 64 controller, but I know those are expensive and always sold out. I got mine by sheer luck from restock announcement on this very site.
But it does seem like if they can add online multiplayer, they'd be able to work in some remap options.
Gamers proclaiming big budget games like FFVII their game of the year are precisely why studios will continue to bank on big-budget AAA titles and chop the smaller ones.
In the meantime, Nintendo continues to go its own path realeasing tentpole and small games, and even making small games the tentpole release lol
I thought Ganon's "Health Bar" phase was the worst duel Nintendo have ever put together. Even when performing every function and technique they've taught you through the game, Ganon still either blocked or evaded them. I got so frustrated I just locked him in a corner and wailed on him until his HP was zero, eating everything in my inventory in a race to see who got to zero first.
The FINAL phase, however, was a great reward for going on that adventure, and I did cry lol
@rjejr I appreciate your reverence for the PS2 games you mentioned, but the only platformers that Sony had that came close to the same level of the N64 greats were the PS1 Spyros.
Platformers of today are mimicking Banjo and Mario, not Jak and Ratchet.
Sonic games, especially sidescrolling Sonic games, are simply not accessible enough to surpass Mario.
The speed is not easy for the casual player to grasp, and the openness of the levels (high path, middle path, low path) is overwhelming and sometimes results in levels that are all over the place.
That's not really a dig; I love Sonic games. But Mario is designed to be played by all players, hardcore and casual. Sonic's appeal lies mostly with established gamers already playing the games, not bringing in new or lapsed players that are not.
This Castlevania is not even that bad... It is not one of the best ones at all, but it's not a 'poor' game. And the candles that trigger the Trap Rooms do, in fact, look different.
If you play video games at all I can't see how you could score this anything less than 8/10. If you play video games as a serious hobby or are a Nintendophile, I feel like it's really hard to score it less than 9. It's EASILY the better than every single game in the "New" series, even if it lacks the challenge that some of them had. This game perfectly ushers in Mario and friends into modern 2D platforming and is a perfect introduction to newcomers. Every detail they've added to animations, expressions, and simple movements makes this game "click" better than any 2D Mario has since Super Mario World. Digital Foundry's review of the game is almost beat by beat how I would describe this game, and it's an instant 9/10 upon starting the game up, and by the time you're done, you'll get to the 10.
One real quick addition: I'd recommend using a Travel Medallion in the Mural Room, just in case. The travel down drained my wits and resources, but a quick warp set up from the Mural Room to Lookout Landing was great for recovery!
Couldn't disagree more. BOTW was besieged with Guardians and exploring was very dangerous and difficult for some of us. I barely explored the center of the map because of the density of the sheer amount of Guardians in Hyrule Field and around the Castle. So I like being able to fully explore every nook and cranny this time around. The Apocalyptic feeling of BOTW was cool to experience in Zelda, but I much prefer this version of a more alive Hyrule reacting and proactively involved with the overall story.
I just wish these games would get the budgets they deserve. Nickelodeon doesn't seem to be supportive at all. The two kart racers are actually very decent but the lack of polish still makes them feel unfinished. This game should be a big deal, but even with so many, it just lacks character and soul.
I am so pumped for this. I was telling my sister last night that outside of adding other modes of transportation, a la Diddy Kong Racing, I don't know what else Nintendo could do for a Mario Kart 9... So 48 new tracks for Mario Kart 8 seems rational enough to me. I just hope Peach Beach is in the lineup!
@Sveakungen As soon as the N64 controllers are available again I'm getting one though. Wielding the camera with the right stick isn't cutting it when it was built for C-Buttons. I think the XBLA version reworked the camera, but I hate the font they used in that one so this is still my preferred way to play now.
... Erhm... No, I think Rare are still arguably still best known for developing Goldeneye, Donkey Kong Country, and Banjo. Only worthwhile original IP they've created since acquired by Microsoft is Viva Piñata. And MAYBE Kameo.
I'm not making excuses for Rockstar; The remasters are messier than they should have been. It does seem like as far as the Switch goes, they could have just done straight ports from the PS2 versions, and ended up with the same result, for less work, and maybe even better performance. But, I WILL say, that having the GTA V style control options has made the games infinitely easier to handle in most cases and I haven't noticed anything too shabby outside of graphical bugs that pop up. It's clear these games were not ready to launch, and a delay or two could have done the development some good. Hopefully patches and updates can address some of the more glaring issues, but games should not launch like this.
Still over the moon to finally play these on Switch, and I'm glad Rockstar decided to put something else on Switch besides a detective game nobody cares to buy on this console.
@SwitchplayerJohn Well, I don't own a gaming PC, XBOX, or a PlayStation, so... I guess I can just go eff myself then?
Fact is, there's no reason everything up to KH III couldn't be ported to Switch, especially since some of these were on Nintendo consoles already. It's just that Square are too lazy to do it. THAT'S the fact.
I would gladly pay the "Switch Tax™" on a physical or even digital Kingdom Hearts collection or ports, but I'm not getting the cloud version of anything.
Buying a game is buying the license to use the game indefinitely. But buying the cloud version is buying a license to buy a license to use the game until the game is no longer available. No thanks, Square.
I didn't buy the Switch to stream games. I bought the Switch to take the games I love with me wherever I go. I absolutely love the Kingdom Hearts series, but I haven't played any of the Sony games because I haven't had a PlayStation since the PS2.
There's no reason that the Switch can't handle the first two remixes. I'd wager if Square weren't lazy, it could handle a version of III as well. It's just lazy, and a little deflating to be honest.
Yay! I had jokingly hoped that @ThomasBW84 would have had more influence in getting more Dark Witch content released on Switch when he first left, but it's good to have him back! Keep up the good work, Nintendo Life!
Ah, the familiar, yearly twinge of fury for EA being the laziest, greediest third party and then the relief of remembrance of f😝ck EA, I don't buy their games any more.
You know, honestly, I've seen mostly negative comments come from 'news' articles themselves. Even in comments sections like these, from game-based sites, people are mostly stoked despite (or IN spite) of Sonic's admittedly terrible design. It seems like one of those things where the media are trying to take it down, and capitalize on the negative reactions where the truth is we all still want to see it anyway.

There are too man Konami games I don't think we'll ever get: Hybrid Heaven, both Goemon games, Castlevania 64... -__-

Come on Shadowman, Conker, and Hybrid Heaven!
Maybe even Resident Evil 2?
Seriously, though, the amount of time my family and I will lose playing CTF on Conker will be significant lol
