At the risk of being lynched by Captain Konami... Whatever happened to taking the information a game site or game mag gave you, processing that, and then ultimately deciding for yourself whether or not you wanted to buy, rent, or try a game? The staff at VC-Reviews are providing people online with an amicable amount of detail and criticism for each game; And when I read a review online or in a mag, I always take it with a grain of salt. I for one think Splatterhouse is actually pretty boring to play, but the reviewers and readers here seem to think otherwise. And let's face it. You pretty much know what games you're willing to try by looking at or watching them anyway As far as the PAL issue goes, I do think that any issues should probably be mentioned in reviews, as slow down or any framerate change would be detrimental (That goes for any game) The point I'm trying to make is that I guess I agree with both Captain Konami and Betagam7 as far as updating each reviews with any issues regarding the port of a game; But to say that games with no differences receiving reviews based on ROMs are inaccurate is a little nit-picky. Boogerman is a game about farts and boogers no matter how you look at it, and you already know by looking at it whether or not you'll want to try it, regardless of what format it was reviewed on I feel like this is all a side effect of the staff just trying to get reviews out for us to read and look at as fast as possible. I mean, we are a pretty insatiable crowd. NA VC updates usually go up at about 9-10am EST here in America, and it usually only takes five minutes for the post to receive 30 comments
lol If they made the Vectrex an NA VC exclusive, do you think they'd have the option to play with and/or without the color overlays? ... Man the Vectrex would be lame compared to the MSX and C64... I vote NA get Apple ][ or Macintosh games!
I have no idea what's going on lol lol If they made the Vectrex an NA VC exclusive, do you think they'd have the option to play with and/or without the color overlays? ... Man the Vectrex would be lame compared to the MSX and C64... I vote NA get Apple ][ or Macintosh games!
@ firebrand and Stuffgamer1: Yeah, I agree, but my point was that they're a business, they're a business who has had success with many different avenues (Even if they have been of varying degrees), and they, as a business, can do whatever they want to make money. So if putting out, publishing, or licensing crappy shovelware makes them money, that's how they're gonna do it. I also went on to say that they would be abandoning Nintendo fans, hardcore or casual, if they moved on to something else But like I said, I agree
@ Stuffgamer1: I also agree with not just owing a Wii. I myself like to have access to all kinds of game media. Sure, I'm addicted to grabbing Power Stars and Mushrooms, but I can't wander around a post-apocalyptic Washington, DC, or wander the streets of Liberty City on Wii
I'm just sayin'... When I was a kid, I traded Wrecking Crew and Pro Wrestling for... The Bugs Bunny Crazy Castle... With one of my friends. When I was a kid, I played the Bugs Bunny to death, but when I got older I regretted it. I got Wrecking Crew back on VC, now if only they'd put out Pro Wrestling!
I haven't been on here (Except for checking weekly Monday updates, Editors =P) in a month or two now, and the last VC game I DLed was EWJ... I've just resigned myself to check the updates and if there's nothin' I like well, I have other games to play, not to mention other things to do in my life. Now I'm not knockin' anyone who sits here and complains or praises various releases; You're the consumer, you have a right to feel that way up to a certain extent, and you also have the right to wait for updates. On the other hand, I realized my whining and/or praising in the end got me nowhere with what classic games I wanted to come out. I doubt very seriously Legacy of the Wizard, Monster Party, King's Quest V, Uniracers, etc. will ever see the light of day on VC (Although I do see the first Dragon Slayer on the "Coming Soon"!). If they do, awesome. If they don't, I can't beat Nintendo into submission and make them obtain licenses Also for those of you who complain about Nintendo and it's new casual approach, I read something a month or so ago. UK's very own EDGE magazine had an article on the matter, and they made a very good point. Nintendo have been around for 120 years and they've only been developing games for about 20-23 of those years. So if they move into something else, or transform their games into something else for someone else, who are we to blame them? They've found success in many different markets over the years and who are we to tell them they can't? Sure, they'd be abandoning a unabashedly loyal yet sometimes fickle fanbase, but it's our privilege, not our right, to play Nintendo's greatest games Now, that being said, I do think we have the right to be disappointed or maybe even mad about what Nintendo do as a company I was also gonna comment on how it's funny to me how people rationalize all the time here, but I just did the same thing lol By the way to my fellow NA gamers: EDGE is an awesome game mag based in the UK. You should totally sunscribe to it... But no one covers VC like you guys, VC-Reviews lol... No offense
And with all that said... Where the Hell is Pro Wrestling?! lol
'Slightly' inferior? I DLed it this morning and was sorely disappointed in the "What The Heck?" level audio... I also have some qualms about the button layout... I would trade this MD version for the one-level-less SNES version any day... That's the one I grew up playing. However, it is still an excellent game and no one should pass it up

Hmph, I wanted Monster Party for Halloween... Haven't touched my Wii in weeks, and haven't DLed a VC game in longer... When I do get some points, at least I'll have Secret of Mana and EarthWorm Jim to get...
@ Bass XO: I actually liked Sword of Mana. And the one on the PSX wasn't too bad either. I haven't cared for the DS iterations... And I've never played Dawn of Mana for PS2... Now, better than Zelda? Nahhh...
lol @ SF II Genesis; Prepared to be over looked. Fail
DS version of Virtual console? Okay SD card slot? That's cool Bigger screens? Yes please! ... Cameras? For what?
I'd rather them just go ahead and announce the next REAL DS... One with bigger, brighter screens at a higher resolution, with multiple touch-points on the touch screens
Poop. I wanted EWJ... But this isn't a bad week... I just realized I haven't DLed anything for the VC in like... Five weeks! ... Why didn't I get Mega Man 9? O_o
Good for you who wanted it, lame for us who have the GCN compilation disc... But MM2 is definitely the better than the first... MM6 is my favorite! lol Mega Man fans, if you don't have it, DL it now!
@Mickeymac: If you like shooters, get Final Soldier, of course. Mario RPG is like a "My First Menu Based RPG" game, but if you love the Mario series than it's recommended. I love it. And Beyond Oasis is more along the lines of Zelda, Alundra, or The Illusion Of Gaia... So it really just depends on your tastes...
@ Kultist: No, it's actually an involved game with missions and things... Kinda like a pop-up book styled version of Cubivore, if you've ever played it. You can collect and upgrade different parts to evolve into bigger and more powerful things, but not nearly as customizable as the PC Spore. It's still fun tho, and since my PC will never handle Spore, it's a cool alternative. A Wii port would be cool as Hell
I'd also like to apologize for antagonizing fellow posters on this article, and taking away from the original subject matter. Kultist is right (See Post 132)
... But if this were a traditional forum or XBL, I think it'd be fair game to come down to his level and flame back and forth! That's what we do on the Internets! lol
Man Alpo, I warned ya. I told you he'd get ya almost 100 comments ago. That being said, how's that degree in accounting workin' for ya? I assume getting it didn't include any kind of typing, grammar, or English classes.... Besides, if you're so much better than everyone here, why're you tryin' to prove yourself to a bunch of invisible names? That's what we do here on the Internets: Act like the douche we can't act like in real life
And I think xSuperMariox should get some sort of flamin' medal. It's ironic there's so much flaming on the day one of the homo-erotic games is realeased. On topic, indeed
I'm agreed, but since Sonic on the SMS is the only game this site lists as a platformer (WTF, VC-Reviews?!), it's hardly fair to tell 'em to sort it out. And I'd just like everyone to know that I DID use my remaining 800 Wii Points downloading Ys Book I and II, played it for about three hours, and I gotta tell ya... I DON'T like it; I don't like the actual gameplay. Why the Hell am I just running into enemies like a drunken sailor to kill them? Someone on an earlier post compared it to Zelda, and I really just don't think they've ever played a Zelda game. I deleted Metroid and Super Metroid to make room for it!
@ Alpo: You gotta come correct every time or SuperMario (Among others) will getcha every time!
@ Rexy: I would also like to see a "real" Paper Mario sequel, instead of Mario RPG 2. If Square, they way they are now, made another Mario RPG, it'd end up having some new emo kid with spikey hair designed by Tetsuya Nomura and probably more Final Fantasy characters... Super Mario Hearts: Stars of Broken Silence
@ Rapadash: I think Square would be more likely to work on a Mario & Luigi game, since some of the the staff already did with the other two anyway; That and Square loves the DS. I also don't think Intelligent Systems and Square need to collaborate on anything. The two styles would clash
I'm glad the ESRB ratings have finally become more secretive... i actually like to be surprised. I also DLed My Aquarium... It's actually really cool, especially for the ambience. At 500 points, I think it's way worth it
I've never played the original Mana game! I'd love to get the chance. Mario Golf is... Meh... But maybe they'll release Mario Tennis soon! Forgotten Worlds is a cool shmup, but again, it's on other better valued compilations elsewhere
@Jashin: But Americans already have Rondo of Blood (Both remade and original versions) available to them on the PSP, so it's not like it's unattainable on a current console. Secret of Mana isn't available on a current console. Square have said in the past that the games they make available on the VC would be games they don't see profitable avenues from on other systems (See King's Knight, ActRaiser and countless other over-milked Taito properties including Space Invaders). This is also why we'll not see Chrono Trigger on the VC, but on the DS (Which is better, for me at least) The last few Mana games on the DS and PS2 were just okay so I figure them putting the original Mana on the VC would not only be a great way to make a little profit, but to also remember the franchise's past greatness... (And maybe retire it...)
Yay! I've been waiting for Cho Aniki! It has the weirdest shmup soundtrack ever... I for one love quirky Japanese stuff, even tho it might include strange man-love... O_o
Oh, congrats EU! I personally love SMRPG, but I feel some of you may be disappointed, especially those of craving deeper RPG fare. The soundtrack for the game, however, composed by the superb Yoko Shimomura, is well worth playing through the game for. Definitely in my Top Five favorite video game soundtracks
... And please, please, please let this be released in the US soon, in any format... I know I rant on here many weeks about leaving the past behind and discovering new games instead of craving games you've already played... But I could really use me some SMRPG game time! I guess I could hook up my Super to play it... But that would be too easy now wouldn't it?
@Stuffgamer1: I also liked XII. I liked building a party of strong characters to tear through a pseudo MMORPG landscape, leaving nothing but money and spoils in my wake. I also thought the attention to detail in environments and graphics is second to none on the PS2, not to mention the refreshingly political story... Rather than some whining piddly mess about emotional, hollow characters , or destroying some world religion. The only FF I dislike is II. VII is overrated, and VIII was cool, but the Junction system is too micromanage-y for me
Oh look at that; Already talking about SMRPG and FF! Sorry folks!
@ Kultist: I'm just saying, it's still a better value with the Collection... Of anything on the VC. The SNK, Capcom Classics, and SEGA Genesis Collections are all better values. Chances are, most of us own some games many times over any way
I'm glad Mega Man is up so you people will FINALLY be satiated; I won't be downloading it (Got the Mega Man Anniversary and Mega Man X collections for the GCN), but I'm glad to see that the people who want it got it
Maybe our kind reviewers at VC-Reviews decided to stop hyping games that may or may not come out, because regardless of how many times they "confirm" something, they just aren't the final say in the matter
By the way, Bionic Commando isn't that great. What kinda game is that? A platformer where you can't jump? Please... Next topic
Just my opinion, please keep your preaching to yourselves
@ diablos79 You're right, but the point I'm trying to make I guess is that... Third parties haven't fully taken advantage of the Wii, so we look to Nintendo to gives us games. I too am frustrated that Nintendo seem to be making games for my mother and grandfather and not me, but in the end, I have other systems to play and other things to do while I wait for awesome games to come out on ANY system. On the point of Wii Music, I posted in the Forums that that entire presentation was the first time I watched Miyamoto on stage at E3 and cringed and felt uncomfortable... Sigh...
@SuperSonic1990 Nintendo don't need any of those companies... Nintendo have enough money from Pokemon and Mario to risk losing out on business and such. The Wii can be home to only first party mediocrity and still be their most successful home console to date @ Rexy I totally agree. Nintendo is not focusing/relying on VC to make it's priority profit. That comes from their hardware and "Blue Ocean" or "Demographic Growing" or whatever they call Wii Fit and the like. Most people on this site have forgotten that the console is called the Wii and not actually the Virtual Console. The VC is a bonus; Another bullet on the features list for the main product.
I for one am tired of hearing these droves of so called Nintendo fans doing nothing but complain and bash on Nintendo knowing full well the typical behavior of the company (For the past 25 years or so, mind you), only to turn around and praise them when they get what they want. A lot like the spoiled little brats that stand in line at my job and beg their parents to buy them something, spitting fire and hate otherwise, only to coo and cuddle after the parents give in. I'm also tired of "fans" blaming Nintendo for being the only ones wrong here. Capcom, SNK, and Hudson all share part of the blame, because they forgot it's not actually their console to make the final decisions on. Just treat the VC as an added bonus for the Wii. And if a game you want doesn't come out, move on! Don't sit around WAITING week after week just for an old game you've probably already played before... They're GAMES.
And I still think you should all pick up your DSs and play the Hell outta those... That's what I've resolved to do =D
Oh and lmao @ Damo: Way to shut that criticism down! You did seem kinda emotional tho o.o
Hmm, I thought for sure that to get the most bang for their buck, the developers/companies/licensees'd just release the original version for Wii, the enhanced remake for XBLA and everyone would get a slice. Ah well, a disappointment for sure, but I don't think there were many people who were still holding their breath fro this one. At least anyone who understands business. Besides, we still got bigger VC fish to fry
Also I gotta say... Yeah it is Nintendo's fault and even the third parties' fault to some extent, but sites like this one and the gamers I think can be partly to blame. With all the hype and "confirmations," no wonder we're all disappointed. Why would you buy Wii points in anticipation of a game? Wait until you see it on the Shop Channel. Also, don't forget: It's Nintendo's Wii, not the Hudson Wii, SNK Wii, or Capcom Wii. If Nintendo doesn't say anything about a game, don't expect it to happen

@Rexy: But you still have Cho Aniki and ESWAT... I really wanna play Cho Aniki...
Okay, you're right, they aren't as cool as Ys
Re: EU VC Releases: Super Mario RPG and Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels
Re: Top 10 RPGs We Want To Come To The Virtual Console
OMG Legacy of the Wizard is one of my favorite games ever. I would love for it to come to the VC... I still have my NES copy tho =D
Re: USA VC Releases: Mega Man and Neo Turf Masters
@ Kultist:
I'm just saying, it's still a better value with the Collection... Of anything on the VC. The SNK, Capcom Classics, and SEGA Genesis Collections are all better values. Chances are, most of us own some games many times over any way
Re: USA VC Releases: Mega Man and Neo Turf Masters
I'm glad Mega Man is up so you people will FINALLY be satiated; I won't be downloading it (Got the Mega Man Anniversary and Mega Man X collections for the GCN), but I'm glad to see that the people who want it got it
Re: Bionic Commando Not Approved For Virtual Console
Maybe our kind reviewers at VC-Reviews decided to stop hyping games that may or may not come out, because regardless of how many times they "confirm" something, they just aren't the final say in the matter
By the way, Bionic Commando isn't that great. What kinda game is that? A platformer where you can't jump? Please... Next topic
Just my opinion, please keep your preaching to yourselves
Re: Bionic Commando Not Approved For Virtual Console
@ J.K.: Agreed
Besides, you can pick it up on the Capcom Classics Mini Mix for GBA if you really must play it again... Along with Mighty Final Fight and Strider
Re: USA VC Releases: Star Parodier and Break In
lol @ Bass X0: That's how it always goes
I for one love Cute 'Em Ups, but I'm actually excited about the WiiWare release, as I love Homestar Runner and Telltale Games
Re: Publishers Remain Tight-Lipped On Black Monday Debacle
@ diablos79
You're right, but the point I'm trying to make I guess is that...
Sigh...
Re: USA VC Update: Sonic (Master System) and Splatterhouse 2
The comments really should shut down after 200 lol
Re: Goldeneye Locked In Legal Limbo
@ Rapadash6
There goes another "fan" blaming things on Nintendo, where blame isn't due. It's all up to the license holders
Re: Publishers Remain Tight-Lipped On Black Monday Debacle
@SuperSonic1990
Nintendo don't need any of those companies... Nintendo have enough money from Pokemon and Mario to risk losing out on business and such. The Wii can be home to only first party mediocrity and still be their most successful home console to date
@ Rexy
I totally agree.
Re: Goldeneye Locked In Legal Limbo
Hmm, I thought for sure that to get the most bang for their buck, the developers/companies/licensees'd just release the original version for Wii, the enhanced remake for XBLA and everyone would get a slice. Ah well, a disappointment for sure, but I don't think there were many people who were still holding their breath fro this one. At least anyone who understands business. Besides, we still got bigger VC fish to fry
Re: USA VC Update: Sonic (Master System) and Splatterhouse 2
@ Virus
Agreed
Re: USA VC Update: Sonic (Master System) and Splatterhouse 2
Also I gotta say... Yeah it is Nintendo's fault and even the third parties' fault to some extent, but sites like this one and the gamers I think can be partly to blame. With all the hype and "confirmations," no wonder we're all disappointed. Why would you buy Wii points in anticipation of a game? Wait until you see it on the Shop Channel. Also, don't forget: It's Nintendo's Wii, not the Hudson Wii, SNK Wii, or Capcom Wii. If Nintendo doesn't say anything about a game, don't expect it to happen
