Re: Random: Amazon's Gaming Pre-Order Discount Cancellation Sparks Nintendo Sale Surge

Mathieu_B

20% is pretty good. Amazon Prime Canada has been at 10% only for the past year. Prime Canada will have zero discount when the new change hits in Canada (nothing replacing the discount).

And pre-orders are terrible. I had pre-ordered Kirby Star Allies two months in advance only to be told on the release date that I would be getting it a month later. I said, but I have Prime. And they said it only guaranties that I get it two days after it ships. Well, that's one service I won't be renewing.

Re: Ubisoft CEO Believes Future Of Games Industry Is Streaming, With Potential To Reach 5 Billion Players In Ten Years

@SomeWriter13 You and me both. It's like when people were complaining so much about getting bundles of channels from cable companies when they just wanted to watch a few of them. Then came along Netflix. It's a classic example of be careful what you wish for. Now we are on the verge of being flooded by Netflix clones, and if Ubisoft is to be believed this could be coming to video games in a future near you.

@SomeWriter13 Your comment got me thinking of some kind of Netflix service for games, but where each publisher has their own service and charges 100$ or so per month. Just look at what's happening now with streaming for shows and movies, and the number of services that exist: Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu, and more. Plus Disney and DC have theirs coming. Now imagine that with video game publishers. It would be a nightmare.

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo's E3 2018 Went Big On Smash Bros. But Left Us Wanting More

Mathieu_B

Nintendo's Smash and Fire Emblem presentations were theatrical and exciting. I loved that part. But the lack of anything else substantial has left me a little disappointed. No news on Metroid Prime 4 or Yoshi, no major announcements or reveals for new entries of beloved franchises like Wario, Star Fox or Animal Crossing. I was kind of hoping for remasters of old Fire Emblem games (a la Echoes Shadows of Valentia) or maybe a Zelda Skyward Sword remaster/port or even some Super Mario Odyssey DLC.

I really liked Ubisoft's and Bethesda's presentations and I'm looking forward to Assassin's Creed Odyssey (the only game in the franchise that I'm interested in to date), Babylon's Fall and Starfield (even though the last two are not coming out soon).

Re: Poll: What Are Your Nintendo Switch Pre-Order and Launch Day Plans?

@geordie

Mmmm I'll check those out. Right now, I'm pretty busy with The Witcher 3 (which I think is a bit overrated, but pretty good) and Pokemon Sun (which is not one of my favourites in the series I must admit, at least so far). Basically, I'm killing time until Zelda Breath of the Wild and Mass Effect Andromeda

@BranJ0

Fire Emblem 7 is my favourite one (and one of my all time favourite games), but maybe because it was the first one that I played. The gameplay is not as good as the modern 3DS games (no branching promotion, item management is a bit tedious, supports are more limited, no map, no pair up), but the level design, story, music, and overall presentation and feel are absolutely excellent. I'm sure that you'll love it
I'd have to say that Awakening is my second favourite.
I haven't really played Radiant Dawn actually. I started it, thought it was too hard and then sold it. Far forward to last year and I regretted it so much that I bought on ebay for a semi-outrageous price. I still haven't had the time to play it though! But with the Zelda Breath of the Wild delay, I just might.

@BranJ0

I'm glad that you like my perspective about Awakening I hope that you really enjoy that next playthrough of yours (of course you will )

There is actually nothing to spoil about why it drags in Revelations; most of the second half is filler and so it drags. It's not even fun filler (except for some of the bosses, those were kind of fun). There just isn't enough story to carry it across 28 chapters. The first half is very interesting though, that's all I'll say. And the climax of the first half is worth it alone (Chapters 16-17). Very challenging, satisfying (both gameplay-wise and emotionally). I know that it's not exactly halfway in terms of chapter numbers, but story-wise, it is. Anyway, that's a long way of saying, yes there is filler, but it's mostly worth it

@BranJ0

Haha thanks Odin is my favourite character in Fates.

I know exactly what you mean about the story in Conquest. I was waiting for some difficult moral decisions, but that never really happened. Still fairly entertaining though! Not to spoil anything, but I thought that Revelations didn't add that much. Definitely play it though; it is very fun just the same. The story drags a lot more though, especially the second half. Conquest was my favourite path

I actually liked the Valm arc in Awakening even if it felt like it was pointless. It was like a bait and switch when the real enemy got revealed, so I liked that. When the 3rd arc came rolling out, it felt like the heroes were caught off guard and were facing a real challenge in Grima/Validar.

Re: Feature: 10 Essential 3DS RPGs

@BranJ0

Oh, I agree with almost everything you said. And I don't think that you are bashing Awakening

In fact, one of the things that I really like about Fates is the changes brought to the pair up mechanic. And I do love the map designs a lot more (for Conquest at least). It's just that I found some to be super difficult and it got my a bit frustrated once or twice. But it was super satisfying to actually win a map and not have anybody die (actually, I let one character die: Izana).

I'm not entirely sure why I like Awakening more than Fates, but I think I just like to story and characters more. I find the story makes more sense and it doesn't drag on and on like Fates (even though it has its own plot holes). It's probably very personal though. And again, I love Fates too, I just like Awakening more. And yeah, the music is fantastic in both games!

Re: Feature: 10 Essential 3DS RPGs

@Mogster

Very well said. I have to same criticisms in regards to Fire Emblem Fates. The story is just not that great and not much happens. I did enjoy Conquest the most because it was so challenging, but it was borderline frustrating on some maps. I still loved the game, but Awakening is superior in almost every way if you ask me (maybe one area it is lacking is map design and I think that I like the music in Fates just a tad more).

Re: Patent Reinforces the Prospect of Nintendo NX Having a Portable Handset

Mathieu_B

I'm not sure if I read the article correctly, but I really don't like the idea of a fully touch screen based controller (even with the add-on). At least the Wii U gamepad has buttons and analogs sticks (two!) without the need for an add-on.

I just hope that all of the rumours and speculation based on patents turns out to be wrong and that Nintendo really surprises us with a brilliant, ergonomic, and fun design.
