@BorderlineJon From my understanding, not generally. GameStop have been accused of all sorts of underhanded practices, I believe, which would explain our friends across the pond's opinions of it.
Game certainly isn't perfect, but I've not heard quite as much complaint about some of their practices.
Thing is, you say who wouldn't be, but it's definitely not a given that he would feel that way after so long. That's the thing though. Nintendo seems to be able to hold onto staff very well.
Yeah I can't wait for this to arrive on the Switch. I think it'll do really well on it too. It is rather annoying that an announcement is expected so long after it was released on other platforms though. Not ideal.
As far as I can see, only 3 types of people read this article (and many of the other articles I see similar comments in which are clearly marked random).
People who didn't bother to read the headline or the random category and thought this was some big breaking news story.
People who knew this was in random but wanted to come to the comments just for a moan.
People who read the headline and category, but wanted to read the story because it piqued their interest.
Now out of the first and last options, the person could come away feeling satisfied or not (the first only usually happy when they quickly realise their mistake).
I think I comfortably fall into the 3rd option, and I've got to honestly say given how clear I found the headline, I was pretty satisfied with the article.
Granted, I'd only really read stories marked random when I am in the mood for them and have some time to kill. Today? Nope. I'd not be in the mood. How fortuitous then that the categorisation on this site is so clear...
@Henmii I simply don't see this as an anti-Nintendo article.
For sure, as I think I've said if not to you, then elsewhere, there are some days I am NOT in the mood for "random" articles. However, there are some days I'm comforted that they are there. Nintendo Life is about more than just News, however much I appreciate their news articles. The clue is in the name.
The purpose of a headline, whether in news, random, or any other category is to grab the reader's attention and try to convince them to read on. You should not be satisfied by the headline alone. That's just a fact of journalism. Can these be misused? Of course. Is this one misleading? No.
I knew before going into the article that someone had sent their Switch to get repaired, it had been sent back without the joycons (oh no!), but that wasn't as bad as it seemed. I didn't get the full story from the headline. A head line is meant to be a short line at the head of a document.
When I title my videos, I don't want to mislead, but I obviously don't want people to feel they have had the full experience from the title alone.
TL;Dr If I knew what they meant, then I don't think it can be very misleading. You always have a choice to click or not. Don't expect news from the random tag.
@Henmii Didn't mention the subtitle. I mentioned the tags. NL make it pretty easy to only read articles tagged with certain categories. If you don't want to read anything in "random", then don't. I don't recall an article marked "random" being news.
This isn't a news site. It's a Nintendo centric site which quite often tells Nintendo news. Meaning, there's no reason why you should expect everything on the main page to be news. I personally quite like the random articles. Do I read them when I want to read news? No of course not. When I'm here for news, I can easily skip by them...because they have a clear tag which I can see before even clicking on them.
@roadrunner343 When I read the headline (which includes both the title and subtitle), I knew someone received a repaired console without their joycons, but it wasn't as bad as it sounded. The article, from there, expanded on this story.
I don't think the headline is misleading. It certainly doesn't tell the whole story and made me want to read more, so in that way, it was clickbait...but not with the negative connotation that word usually suggests.
I think the point of the random tag is to be able to talk about subjects, in this case customer service, in a way that's only connected to Nintendo in that it involves them in this example.
I think one needs to read the whole headline and include those tags in deciding whether one wants to read an article and to limit/expand expectations of what you can expect.
@roadrunner343 You did see the "Not as bad as it sounds" in the headline there, right? I'll say what you've probably told other people. No one made you click on the article.
I can't be the only one who is interested in articles like this. It's called Nintendo Life.
It's pretty obvious from the category tags they use roughly what tone each article will take. Looking for game announcements? It's unlikely you'll find that in Random.
I don't like every article Nintendo Life put out. Not every one was written with me in mind, funnily enough. But that isn't really their fault.
I just don't know if a Switch Pro would sell enough for devs to develop with that in mind. Perhaps they would go down the route Nintendo took when making Breath of the Wild for the Wii U (Vs the Switch) for Switch vs Switch Pro. Games will run and be playable on the Switch, but will run much smoother and better on the Switch Pro. More so though because many more people are likely to buy the game on Switch than own Breath of the Wild on the Wii U.
@kuromantic Poor wording. I apologise. The Wii had an extensive online store, for its day. The Wii Mini made the exclusive online games inaccessible. Not only removing online functionality, but also removing the SD card slot, which could have otherwise been used to transfer games onto the console somehow.
I was merely pointing out the idea that Nintendo wouldn't make a console which would make their own games incompatible doesn't take history into account. The Wii Mini I'm sure filled a corner of the market at a time when the Wii U was already out, so I don't necessarily fault them for that.
Also, not having removable joycons on the console itself doesn't mean you couldn't buy joycons or some alternative later, supposing Bluetooth connectivity would still be included, which of course is not a given.
I think he's right, but it hasn't been an instant thing. It's been one small step, then another small step, then another. Some crossover games from the Wii days onwards, a more open and friendly approach to indie developers, willingness to change up long established formats and return to long dead ones. This latest thing is just another small step in what absolutely does add up to a giant leap.
I've always seem Nintendo as either my main console or one of a couple of them. I think it comfortably sits next to consoles from "competing" companies in a way that many of them can't.
Fortnite graphic of some description was made in the same size, they duplicated the file across to work on the Kirby wallpaper and forgot to remove that layer. Actually fairly common to duplicate files like that.
Definitely seems like the most likely explanation to me!
I've always assumed him to be the shy person this interview would suggest. I like that quote from the interview you included near the end though. Not everyone is very good at heaping praise in person. I can respect that.
@RedMageLanakyn Entirely incorrectly. A drawback of a text only communication method. No part of my previous comment was sarcastic. Sarcasm meaning saying the opposite in order to mock someone. I AM sure you see the logic in their decision. You might disagree with the decision, but that doesn't prevent one from seeing the logic.
I'm honestly not sure what else I can say on the matter. You're coming across like you came into this comments section to complain about how you saw the site, using opinions instead of facts...then someone disagreed and knocked you off your stride a bit. If this is the case, I don't really see what it adds to the discussion other than your own sense of accomplishment at having vented.
For the record, I do genuinely respect that you have a difference of opinion and I can see where that opinion seems to be coming from. For all the rumours that NL choose not to cover, I respect that decision too. I'm not feeling a lot of that understanding and mutual respect back from you though, to be honest. I might be wrong of course. This is text based communication, after all.
@RedMageLanakyn I don't see this as trash, so that's an opinion.
I guess they realise that they can't please everyone and realise those who want to see articles like this can and those who don't can just pass them by. It's much better to supply a type of article some people would rather skip than not including it causing some people to go elsewhere.
It must be simply terrible being on the "wrong" side of that equation, but I'm sure you can understand the logic.
@RedMageLanakyn Rumours are often news when it comes to video games. My original point stands. If people don't want to read them, they don't have to. Whereas, their omission on this site would mean that those who want to see them would need to follow multiple sites for news and rumours. Seems like it would be far easier/faster for people who don't want to see it to just not read them than for those who do to have to hunt them down, no?
I still prefer my physical media. This wouldn't help Microsoft's bottom line, obviously, but it then wouldn't lock me out of owning a disk.
Also, I'm no expert, but I'm guessing the gamecard related components are probably going to work out cheaper and smaller (obviously smaller, which is another big reason given for the diskless Xbox) than the Blu-ray disk drive. This price is only going to decrease as time goes on and as more are made. They're also experimenting on larger and larger gamecards, which are going to have a larger capacity than Blu-ray disks. I see lots of cons to them going digital only at this stage and not a lot of pros.
People complaining about the fact that this is a rumour when it's quite clearly marked as such. If you don't want to read the rumours, then just don't, people!
@roadrunner343 As I said, context. If this was from a company which has a great reputation, it may not be as big news. You're willing to give the company the benefit of the doubt? That's fine. But you seem to be criticising people who have formed an opinion. Their opinion can change and adapt from there.
I'm just not really understanding why, because you've chosen to reserve your opinion one way or the other, everyone else should too.
@roadrunner343 "Now, did Blizzard make the right decision? I don't know. That's up for debate"
Welcome to the comments section...where we are literally able to debate what you say is up for debate.
This story is all to do with context. Yes, this could be said by any company, but in this case, it's being said by Activision. That fact adds some context to just why people feel justified in debating a topic you said yourself is "up for debate". Not really sure why you posted such a long comment telling people it was up for debate then getting cross at people debating and discussing it, to be honest, but there we go.
Reggie is a legend. You know, the fact that his name and face is so well known is testiment to that. He was out there, putting in the work. He should be an example to all of corporate America in my opinion.
Dunno what you're talking about. I've sunk so many hours into this game over the years...with the Switch version making me loose myself for a few hours. It's been one of those games that I've been like "okay, I'll play for another hour", then I emerge several hours later wondering what I've been doing all that time.
Nah, I know it's not for everyone. I'd consequently not recommend it to EVERYONE.
It did actually, but then my brain dismissed it, thinking it a coincidence. I had just been watching a friend's Let's Play of the original, with the mountain in the thumbnails.
VERY excited. To be honest, they could have announced nothing else, and this bombshell would have made it worth it. Such a good game, even in the original colourless version. Colour added so much, and now this second remake. My goodness.
To be honest, I knew a lot of the announcements this direct weren't really for me. I was fine with that. Not every game or announcement is going to appeal. However, to end on this. I just want it soon.
I was just thinking the other day that I'll need to replay this at some point soon.
The SNES online app is a copy of the one running the NES. They copied the app over and removed the opposite console from each app.
I still would love a VC though. There's a few games on all past consoles I would totally buy if given the choice. I know it doesn't seem to be in the plans at the moment, but that's that. Thing is, as small as I see the price, it feels like they are drip feeding us old games to somehow justify that price to some people, and it's a failing tactic.
If the leaks are all correct, and I have no reason to doubt them at this stage, the only logical reason to not announce it by now is because they anticipate a lot of double dipping...which is quite likely.
Double dipping from PS4/XBox One to Switch (and PC too) is more likely than between PS4 and XBox One.
I've got to say...I kinda like the amount we get with amiibo at the moment. I know that might be unpopular, but I like that I can NOT use my amiibo and eventually get the sage things, for the most part. Personally, I've only got 2 amiibo at present. One is a Peach so I could get past a few difficult bits of Super Mario Odyssey I kind of couldn't be bothered working through, frankly. Yeah, little things like that...awesome. I might collect them at some point. I've resisted pretty much so far, but can understand doing that for just the figures themselves.
