Re: Nintendo Switch Online Game Vouchers Might Be Returning To North America

@Shadowkiller97 Huh? I just bought a Gamecube game the other day. What are you high on that you can't go buy a physical copy of an old out of print game? Or do you seriously think I am only talking about "new" unopened copies as if used games simply disappear after use?

A physical game has infinite uses and can be resold at any time without the need for a license. If I lose my 3DS card and cannot redownload a digital game,. then there is no way to recover it because it was tied to my account. You cannot rebuy an out of print digital game.

Its not even comparable and I don't understand why you're trying to argue otherwise. Go buy a delisted digital copy of a game 20 years from now and let me know how that goes for you. Because according to you, it'll be exactly as easy as just buying an old physical copy from ebay

@Shadowkiller97 If I lose a physical copy, I can buy a new one. If we all move to digital and physical goes away, there is no buying another copy of a game. If I lose my SD card, or it goes bad, or the game is on the internal HDD of the console and the hardware goes bad, guess what? No playing that owned game ever again. Can't just buy a new SD card with the same games and content tied to my account again.

I have a copy of Fire Emblem Fates with all three routes. Digitally, the third route is extra DLC that can only be purchased. If Nintendo hadn't sold a special edition with the DLC on the card, no new player ever again would be able to play the full game. And if I owned the DLC and lost my SD card without the ability to redownload content, I also would not be able to play it ever again.

A company should be legally required to always provide access to purchased content, period. If they are the gatekeeper. Now, if it is sold without DRM and can be easily stored/backed up locally, I have no problem. I could source another copy of a game I bought digitally in a legal method.

@Shadowkiller97 because the ability to download will also eventually disappear. This was on top of Sony cutting access to the PS3 and Vita PS Stores as well. The Wii eshop help page explicitly says that downloading owned content is not guaranteed in the future (https://en-americas-support.nintendo.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/27560/~/wii-shop-channel-discontinuation)

Physical games can be stored and saved, or even repaired. Digital games have no consumer protection. Corporations can steal them back at any time for any reason. And if Sony and Nintendo won't honor past purchases, I have no faith in the digital ecosystem.

Re: Video: One Month In, What Are Your Predictions For The Switch's 2023?

Mando44646

After Fire Emblem, Advance Wars is the only 1st party game I am excited for. I hope it actually releases.

I'm not a big Zelda fan. I'll play the new one; BOTW was fun if a bit uninspired. Maybe this time the open world will be more compelling.

Here's hoping for Pokemon DLC, either for Arceus or S/V

Otherwise, some Metroid would be great. GBA games on NSO? I can dream of Golden Sun, right?

Not sure what else Nintendo has that I would be excited for. But its certainly not the 25th Kirby game released in 3 years, and Mario platformers don't do much for me.

Re: Talking Point: Does Nintendo's Next Console Have To Be 'Another' Switch?

The only reason I play most games on Switch, even when they run worse, is because it is portable. If Nintendo does not make another portable, then why would I ever choose to play non-1st party games on the platform? It would go back to a Wii U situation, where I'd always play all 3rd party releases on PS/Xbox and only turn on the Nintendo console 2 or 3 times a year for 1st party releases.

I cannot imagine Nintendo would be that short sighted. I can't be the only one like that
