@Alpha008 I was also confused by Activision at #3. I am also not sure how Metacritic counts games. I am looking at their own list at https://www.metacritic.com/company/activision and I only see 3 games and a WoW expansion listed (CoD Warzone 2, CoD MW2, and Overwatch 2).
I really don't understand why the article claims Activision released 10 games in 22
@dew12333 the problem is Nintendo didn't print the full game onto physical media, aside from limited collector editions. This is self-inflicted
If a company doesn't make physical copies available and then delists digital copies, then said company sacrifices all moral high ground on piracy.
It's not much to expect to be able to play games 10 years from now, just as I expect to be able to watch a movie or read a book 10 years from now. And if a company takes away all legal avenues, we should all endorse emulation and piracy as the lone solution
@Immovablegamer6669 the problem is that Nintendo chose not to sell the full game, outside of limited collectors editions. And they are taking away access to the full game forever without any ability to play it on other/modern consoles.
I never played the FEs on GBA. And you better bet I am excited to get those on NSO. Similarly, you don't think that future FE fans may have missed Fates and you don't think they deserve to play the complete game in 5, 10, or 15 years?
@dew12333 A lot of people may have bought a 3DS more recently. Games need to be made available legally in perpetuity. Otherwise, new gamers will just need to pirate the game that Nintendo refuses to sell
this is literally the last opportunity to play the full game. Nintendo is making sure future gamers can't actually complete it. How slimy and trashy is that?
@OrtadragoonX that's been on my list for a while! Phantasy Star is entirely a blank spot for me, and RPGs are what I tend to look for (and what Nintendo is failing to provide on NSO)
@Aneira losing code for old games isn't that unusual. Square reportedly lost the code for FF8 and thats why it took so many years before it was ever put out again after its original release. I've also heard reports of this being an issue at Nintendo and other devs
too long spent on Pikmin, style sim, and Splatoon. Front half was super boring as I don't care about any of those
GBA launch lineup is terrible. Not a single thing to play and GBA is my favorite handheld. Where are Golden Sun, Fire Emblem, Pokemon, F Zero, and Metroid? Super disappointing
Positives:
I was super surprised and really enjoyed the direct after the first 10 minutes or so.
demos for Octopath and Sea of Stars? yes!
Metroid Prime!
Baten Kraitos!
Advance Wars! Finally!
the future knowledge I can finally play Golden Sun on a modern platform? F'ing Finally!
I am unwilling to pay $70 for most games, and Zelda isn't on that very short list. In the last year or so, really only God of War Ragnarok and Final Fantasy 16 have existed on that list for me.
@darkswabber I get that. And it does that concept badly. Everything looks and plays the in the same generic way. With no care given to the license or character. Its a giant disservice to those IPs and it actively irritates me to see Batman, who opposes guns, running around shooting people with a gun
a true toybox would put some modicum of effort into the process. Such as Disney Infinity and how it paid such respect to the various IPs it included
@Shadowkiller97 Huh? I just bought a Gamecube game the other day. What are you high on that you can't go buy a physical copy of an old out of print game? Or do you seriously think I am only talking about "new" unopened copies as if used games simply disappear after use?
A physical game has infinite uses and can be resold at any time without the need for a license. If I lose my 3DS card and cannot redownload a digital game,. then there is no way to recover it because it was tied to my account. You cannot rebuy an out of print digital game.
Its not even comparable and I don't understand why you're trying to argue otherwise. Go buy a delisted digital copy of a game 20 years from now and let me know how that goes for you. Because according to you, it'll be exactly as easy as just buying an old physical copy from ebay
@Shadowkiller97 If I lose a physical copy, I can buy a new one. If we all move to digital and physical goes away, there is no buying another copy of a game. If I lose my SD card, or it goes bad, or the game is on the internal HDD of the console and the hardware goes bad, guess what? No playing that owned game ever again. Can't just buy a new SD card with the same games and content tied to my account again.
I have a copy of Fire Emblem Fates with all three routes. Digitally, the third route is extra DLC that can only be purchased. If Nintendo hadn't sold a special edition with the DLC on the card, no new player ever again would be able to play the full game. And if I owned the DLC and lost my SD card without the ability to redownload content, I also would not be able to play it ever again.
A company should be legally required to always provide access to purchased content, period. If they are the gatekeeper. Now, if it is sold without DRM and can be easily stored/backed up locally, I have no problem. I could source another copy of a game I bought digitally in a legal method.

maybe Square is waiting for them to be in a Direct, so they can't say anything?
Re: Random: Smash Bros. Melee HD Unlikely To Happen, According To Former Nintendo Employees
...why would they? Melee doesn't need an HD remaster.

Re: Nintendo Places Outside Top Ten In Metacritic's 13th Annual Game Publisher Rankings
Its immensely (sadly) hilarious to me that Xbox doesn't even make enough games to make it onto this list. The amount of mismanagement is crazy
Re: Nintendo Places Outside Top Ten In Metacritic's 13th Annual Game Publisher Rankings
well maybe Nintendo should stop releasing low-effort shovelware sports games and maybe actually put some care into the production of Pokemon games
Re: Nintendo Download: 9th March (North America)
Nothing. But I certainly don't need a reason to buy more for a while

Re: Poll: What Did You Think Of The February 2023 Pokémon Presents, Then?
S/V DLC looks cool.
Can't say I cared about the other 20-ish minutes
Re: Scalpers Set Their Sights On Metroid Prime Remastered Physical Release
Nintendo didn't even stock pre-orders. I am still waiting for my copy from Amazon.
They don't get to understock and then play innocent

Re: Nintendo Download: 23rd February (North America)
@Zverik I assume this is a port of a game that's been out for 10 years. it would be easy enough to look up
Re: Nintendo Download: 23rd February (North America)
Octopath Traveler II, eventually
Re: Metroid Prime Remastered Physical Version Out Now (US), Will You Be Getting It?
If Amazon ever ships it. My day-of-announcement copy keeps getting delayed.
It seems Nintendo chose not to actually stock this game anywhere. Stores also don't have it

Re: Poll: Which Nintendo Switch Online Console Do You Play The Most?
Very little on NES or SNES I care about.
I have never touched Genesis
N64 probably has the most time from me and has the best selection
GB and GBA have no games I am interested in. And GBA is one of my favorite consoles of all time, so that's saying something. Where is Golden Sun!?
Re: Pokémon Presents 2023 Announced For Next Week
Scarlet and Violet DLC would be cool.
Pokemon Stadium on N64 NSO?
Re: Looks Like Pokémon Trading Already Works On Switch Online's GB & GBA Emulator
I want Soul Silver so bad
Re: Review: Octopath Traveler II - A Confident Follow-Up And One Of Switch's Finest RPGs
I'll pick this up in the future. But there is just too much to play.
And why does Square keep launching their own games on top of each other? I just got FF:Theaterythm too
Re: Nintendo Download: 16th February (North America)
THEATRHYTHM

Re: Review: Tales of Symphonia Remastered - A GameCube Classic That Shows Its Age On Switch
I loved Tales of Arise. I really struggle to enjoy older Tales games though
Re: Review: Theatrhythm Final Bar Line - A Magical Musical Romp Through Final Fantasy History
@Buizel Its only $50 instead of $60. Not a full priced release
Re: Review: Theatrhythm Final Bar Line - A Magical Musical Romp Through Final Fantasy History
@Coalescence I also prefer button controls. I always used buttons on 3DS too. Much more exact (and comfortable) than the touch controls were
Re: Review: Theatrhythm Final Bar Line - A Magical Musical Romp Through Final Fantasy History
gods, I can't wait for this.
Just wish it included DQ music. KH had its own game. This has pretty much every other major Square IP. But no love for DQ music?
Re: Soapbox: Switch Is Great, But The GBA SP Was The Pinnacle Of Public Transport Gaming
I agree. I adored the GBA SP.
new3DS XL was the only thing that came close. I love the clamshell designs so much
Re: Wait, Did Square Enix Just Tease A Final Fantasy Tactics Remaster?
I don't see how that team being busy prevents their characters from appearing in FF:T though?
Re: Video: Everything The February 2023 Nintendo Direct Didn't Tell You
I love how Japan gets better NSO selections than NA every time. There are no GB/A games I want to play. But they get TWO Fire Emblems!? So unfair

well 5pm is annoying. Right in the middle of the traffic rush to get home. Guess I won't watch live

sure won't.

Re: Feature: Our Predictions For The February 2023 Nintendo Direct
final fantasy pixel remasters date
Metroid Prime port(s)
Advance Wars date
Pikmin date
Pokemon DLC
Fire Emblem DLC
Xenoblade DLC
I hope to be surprised. But I don't expect much new news to come out.
Re: Feature: Our Predictions For The February 2023 Nintendo Direct
lets skip the boring GB games and jump straight to GBA games on NSO. The best handheld library of all time
Re: Toss A V-Buck To Your Witcher, Geralt Of Rivia Slashes Onto Fortnite Today
so, is Geralt going to run around with a gun like Batman and Spider Man do?
Such crappy treatment of the source IPs
Re: Nintendo Reconfirms Release Windows For Major Upcoming Switch Games
GBA games on NSO would be nice though. Let me play Golden Sun, you cowards
Re: Nintendo Reconfirms Release Windows For Major Upcoming Switch Games
still working on Bayo 3, so I probably won't pick up the Bayo game
I was super meh on BOTW. Not sure I care enough to pick up the sequel. Not unless the open world is less bland and boring and has more to do
Don't care about Pikmin or the 40th Kirby game this gen
I do really want Advance Wars and Metroid Prime. Dates would be nice
Aside from Fire Emblem, Nintendo is really lacking this year for me
