Re: Reminder: Today Is Your Last Chance To Get Fire Emblem Fates On 3DS eShop

@dew12333 the problem is Nintendo didn't print the full game onto physical media, aside from limited collector editions. This is self-inflicted

If a company doesn't make physical copies available and then delists digital copies, then said company sacrifices all moral high ground on piracy.

It's not much to expect to be able to play games 10 years from now, just as I expect to be able to watch a movie or read a book 10 years from now. And if a company takes away all legal avenues, we should all endorse emulation and piracy as the lone solution

@Immovablegamer6669 the problem is that Nintendo chose not to sell the full game, outside of limited collectors editions. And they are taking away access to the full game forever without any ability to play it on other/modern consoles.

I never played the FEs on GBA. And you better bet I am excited to get those on NSO. Similarly, you don't think that future FE fans may have missed Fates and you don't think they deserve to play the complete game in 5, 10, or 15 years?

Re: Poll: What Did You Think Of The February 2023 Nintendo Direct?

Mando44646

negatives:

  • too long spent on Pikmin, style sim, and Splatoon. Front half was super boring as I don't care about any of those
  • GBA launch lineup is terrible. Not a single thing to play and GBA is my favorite handheld. Where are Golden Sun, Fire Emblem, Pokemon, F Zero, and Metroid? Super disappointing

Positives:

  • I was super surprised and really enjoyed the direct after the first 10 minutes or so.
  • demos for Octopath and Sea of Stars? yes!
  • Metroid Prime!
  • Baten Kraitos!
  • Advance Wars! Finally!
  • the future knowledge I can finally play Golden Sun on a modern platform? F'ing Finally!

@darkswabber I get that. And it does that concept badly. Everything looks and plays the in the same generic way. With no care given to the license or character. Its a giant disservice to those IPs and it actively irritates me to see Batman, who opposes guns, running around shooting people with a gun

a true toybox would put some modicum of effort into the process. Such as Disney Infinity and how it paid such respect to the various IPs it included

still working on Bayo 3, so I probably won't pick up the Bayo game

I was super meh on BOTW. Not sure I care enough to pick up the sequel. Not unless the open world is less bland and boring and has more to do

Don't care about Pikmin or the 40th Kirby game this gen

I do really want Advance Wars and Metroid Prime. Dates would be nice

Aside from Fire Emblem, Nintendo is really lacking this year for me

@Shadowkiller97 Huh? I just bought a Gamecube game the other day. What are you high on that you can't go buy a physical copy of an old out of print game? Or do you seriously think I am only talking about "new" unopened copies as if used games simply disappear after use?

A physical game has infinite uses and can be resold at any time without the need for a license. If I lose my 3DS card and cannot redownload a digital game,. then there is no way to recover it because it was tied to my account. You cannot rebuy an out of print digital game.

Its not even comparable and I don't understand why you're trying to argue otherwise. Go buy a delisted digital copy of a game 20 years from now and let me know how that goes for you. Because according to you, it'll be exactly as easy as just buying an old physical copy from ebay

@Shadowkiller97 If I lose a physical copy, I can buy a new one. If we all move to digital and physical goes away, there is no buying another copy of a game. If I lose my SD card, or it goes bad, or the game is on the internal HDD of the console and the hardware goes bad, guess what? No playing that owned game ever again. Can't just buy a new SD card with the same games and content tied to my account again.

I have a copy of Fire Emblem Fates with all three routes. Digitally, the third route is extra DLC that can only be purchased. If Nintendo hadn't sold a special edition with the DLC on the card, no new player ever again would be able to play the full game. And if I owned the DLC and lost my SD card without the ability to redownload content, I also would not be able to play it ever again.

A company should be legally required to always provide access to purchased content, period. If they are the gatekeeper. Now, if it is sold without DRM and can be easily stored/backed up locally, I have no problem. I could source another copy of a game I bought digitally in a legal method.
