@Moistnado "I apologise as my words could be interpreted as insinuating that our beloved Nintendo had a hand in this. I will rephrase- and Nintendo is selling for $60, on behalf of a third party developer. Either way, Bioshock collection was being given away for 'free' by Sony, I assume with support of the same developer just last month." Yes, I think that it's a safe to assume that 2K agreed to add the 'Bioshock Collection' to the PS Plus payed subscription service. As it's safe to assume that 2K set the price of the 'Bioshock Collection' on Steam: Currently $59.99. You know, more or less the same price that they set for the collection on the eShop. 2K made all these decisions, not Nintendo, Sony or Valve.
@Moistnado "It has happened a few times where I realise I already have an old game on PSPlus, that Nintendo is selling for $60" You are aware that Nintendo doesn't set the price for third party games, right?
@TimboSlice No, it wasn't free. You could play it without paying any money, but in that case, you got a deliberately restricted version of the game. If that's good enough for you, fair enough, but you didn't get the same experience that paying customers get.
@HeroOfCybertron Try updating your game. Mine just got updated to version 2.0.0
@TimboSlice "This game is/was free on iOS"
No, the game was not free on iOS. It was free to start, but it had microtransactions, as is par of the course for the mobile market.
So I gladly payed to play the game in a proper gaming platform, without artificial restrictions or microtransactions.
@tendonerd Of course, releasing free DLC is the sure sign of a developer's "willingness for a cash grab".
Like those fellows who developed Shovel Knight, right? They also released free DLC that more than doubled the size of the game, so following your faultless reasoning, that's "a sure sign of the lack of effort it takes to make it and their willingness for a cash grab".
Yes, I can't look it up right now, but I'm pretty sure that both Dandy Dungeon and Shovel Knight are universally considered as lazy "cash grabs" by the people who have actually played them.
@LegendOfPokemon Doom and Doom2 play pretty well on Switch, so those two should be okay too, because if I remember correctly, the Dark Forces games where also 2D games disguised as 3D (i.e. there was no need for vertical aiming).
@GrandScribe Personally, I wouldn't trust many developers besides Obsidian themselves to do a proper job remaking/finishing the game. And now that they have been assimilated into the Microsoft blob, I'm afraid that them taking the job seems pretty unlikely
@Dezzy If you liked KOTOR, it's well worth a try. It was rushed to release before it was finished and it shows, but it's still very enjoyable and it features one of the most fascinating characters I have found in a videogame. You can get the game really cheap on GOG and it'll probably run perfectly on any PC made the last 15 years.
@SolarisPolaris "Thankfully the Museum lets you multi-donate after the main building is completed" But do you still get to hear what Blathers has to say about each of your donations? Because if you don't, then I'll have to stick to single donations. I love his ramblings way too much!
@JayJ Could you please provide some links where I can read, in her own words and in the original context, all those "prejudiced things" and her supposed "pushing sexism and racism"? Just to form my opinion based on what she actually said. Anyway, isn't it funny how none of these "crusaders against sexism" appears to have any objection to make to comments such as this one, made in this very thread?: "That said, she's a truly mediocre/awful actress and must have really impressed the Harvey Weinstein's of Hollywood to get where she is, if you know what I mean." Yeah, no trolling or sexism in this thread. None at all.
And by the way, addressing your previous concern: "I don't know why they keep pushing articles about her." This is just another article about "celebrity X has mentioned a Nintendo property", the likes of which NintendoLife has been publishing for quite some time now. If any Hollywood star professes love for a Nintendo property and tweets about it, it's very likely that they will get a NintendoLife article.
@Heavyarms55 And why should NintendoLife bow to the whims of internet trolls? If they get so upset by an article about a celebrity that plays Nintendo games -the kind of article that this site has been doing for a long time now with quite a few different celebrities, btw- that's their problem.
Does anyone know what's the deal with Night Slashers in the European eShop? I added it to my wishlist the week it was released, but shortly after that, it was marked as 'unavailable', and it has stayed that way since.
This game looked intriguing to me back when it was released on PC. Maybe I'll give it a go, now that it's on Switch.
@KitsuneNight Yes a port/remaster of Bloodlines seems extremely unlikely. Particularly because Troika Games was forced to release it in an unfinished state, and the company went down a few months later. The version you can play now on PC is the result of years of work by a dedicated fan community, improving what was originally a highly ambitious but obviously unfinished game. If some company decided to port the game to a current platform, they would have a lot of work to do, to get the code to the level of polish achieved by the fan patches... and that's assuming the source code and other assets from the original development process are still available.
As other commenters already said, this game is a perfect fit for Switch. Hopefully, it won't get lost in the deluge of games flooding the eShop these days.
I'm mainly a Nintendo gamer nowadays. I bought both Bayonetta games on Wii U, I bought them again on Switch and I just began a new Bayonetta 2 playthrough.
And you know what? I wouldn't mind this amazing game being released on more platforms, so that more people can enjoy it.
Where's the option for Devil Survivor? Those two games where really great and would fit the Switch like a glove. As someone else has commented, I would also like to see a new Etrian Odyssey, but that series was such a great fit for the DS/3DS hardware, that it's hard to imagine how a single screen iteration would work.
@YANDMAN As in "we really would have liked to see some of the other home ports included". This release includes just the original arcade game, apparently.
I know we've gradually come to accept that almost every game has to have some kind of DLC, to the point that people complain about Nintendo "not supporting their games" if they don't provide DLC after launch, but... Isn't part of the point of these re-releases to have both the main game and any subsequent DLC on the cartridge/disc? Why do we have to buy DLC for a frigging remaster? What's the point of it all?
@Kalmaro I bought it again on Switch, just for the pleasure of revisiting the story. Yes, it's the same story that I already played a few years ago, but it was such a memorable experience that, for me, it's worth double dipping. It may not work for everyone, no story does. But in my case, it turned out to be one of my favorite game stories ever.
Ugh! With the vast array of X-Men characters at their disposal, they had to go and choose two of the worst examples of 90s darker and edgier drivel. Well, at least we also got Phoenix and Ice Man, which is nice. If they don't screw up the Fantastic Four DLC, I'll probably get the expansion pack, to give the game another spin.
@Bizzyb I'd say its actually better than the previous two MUA games, but I basically agree with what you said. It's funny, because I think that there are at least two branches that "grew" from the 2d brawler tree: the MUA/X-men Legends one and the DMC/Bayonetta one. The second one gave us better games with more engrossing gameplay, but the first one can still be very enjoyable when done right, as in MUA 3. Come to think of it, maybe musou games could also be considered an evolution of 2d brawlers?
I think that Dragon Quest XI should be way higher, by virtue of it being hands down the best version of the game available. Also, as other have pointed out, Divinity Original Sin 2 should be on the list. Anyway, nice list and thank you for giving us the opportunity to grumble about what is or what should be in it
@Agramonte "Sure it is important, why they specified "...until Origins and Odyssey" in the first place" Because that's the difference between a summary and the full review you didn't bother to read before commenting. Yet again: Summary: "a brief account of the main points of something" Notice that "main points" bit. The point of that sentence in the "cons" column is that the two games being reviewed have control problems. "What control problems?" Sticky parkour and messy hand to hand combat. "How severe are these problems?" They're just the usual problems in this series. Do you see how those two questions i just mentioned are tightly bound to the main point of the sentence and provide substantial information about the games being reviewed? That's two things you can't say about the question: "But wait, are there any games in this series without those problems?" If you want that kind of accessory information, just read the full review, as you should had done before commenting.
@Agramonte "It needs a time reference just like in the main article to be "a concise summery" of what is above" Excuse me if I repeat myself: Summary: "a brief account of the main points of something" Did you read the "main points" part? A summary under the header "Cons" definitely needs to include a brief sentence about one of the main complaints that the reviewer expounded on in the main text. Mentioning that those control problems are just the usual in the series, adds a lot of information that is relevant to the point of the sentence: Those control problems are not specific to these two particular games or to their Switch port; they're just the usual in the series. On the other hand, adding any single word to signify that there are two games in this series of eleven, that don't have these control problems, would add absolutely nothing to the point of the sentence. It's extraneous information that says nothing about the cons that the reviewer found in the games actually being reviewed, and so it would have no purpose in a brief summary, other than having spared you of making a comment stating something that was already stated in the review you were commenting on, but decided not to read first. It would have been a good idea to read the whole review before commenting, pal.
@Agramonte "Conclusion here is a recap of what is mentioned in the article" Recap/Recapitulation: "A summary or concise review." Summary: "a brief account of the main points of something" Note the words "concise" and "brief" there. If they had to include a word to satisfy every nitpicker who doesn't even bother to read the article before nitpicking, they might as well repeat the whole text again, which would defeat the point of having a summary since you're not summarizing but repeating and would be quite tedious to read. No matter how you try to spin it, it doesn't disguise the fact that you commented without having read the whole article.
@Agramonte Conclusion: "the end or close; final part:" The conclusion is part of the article. Having to detail again what they mean by "usual in the series" in the conclusion after having stated it plain and clear in the article would make for rather tedious reading and defeat the point of having a conclusion in the first place. In any case, you really should have read the whole review before commenting.
@Agramonte From this very same review: "It's all part of these game really; stuff that didn't ever really get properly ironed out until Origins and Odyssey" Maybe you should read the full article before commenting?
@gloom When do you feel that it has "slowed down"'? I'm still trying to catch up with all the great games released in the last couple of months! If you mean that there are not many "big" releases slated for December (other than Alien Asolation), that's just the usual Christmas lull: Companies usually release their big holiday games in the previous weeks or months, to give their distribution and promotion branches enough time to get the product to the stores and into the wish list of potential buyers. Same with the Nintendo Direct: Why tell your customers now about future releases, when you want them to spend their Christmas money in your products? As far as I can remember, Nintendo has never done a Christmas Direct, which makes total commercial sense. What they usually do is begining-of-the-year Directs; after the Christmas spending spree is done, they tell their costumers what's coming in the following months.
"much like Firaxis Games’ seminal series" While this sentence is basically true, it may give the wrong impression that Firaxis Games created the X-Com series, which they didn't. It was Julian Gollop (with his brother Nick and the team at Mythos Games) who created the X-Com series and with it, he more or less codified this genre. While Firaxis Games' entries in the X-Com series have been very well received, they are relatively new comers to the genre. Also, some mention to the Jagged Alliance series and how this game compares to those, would have been nice. But I think that's more than enough nitpicking for a day
@diwdiws Cool! I had never been called a corporate shill by some random internet person. That's another thing I can check off my bucket list
Speaking a bit more seriously, I don't think a "corporate shill" would say that microtransactions spoil game progression mechanics, or that mobile gamers are just getting what they deserve, because they seem to prefer to be scammed with "free" games rather than paying a single time for a full game. So no, I don't think your theory holds water.
@YozenFroghurt Thank you, but I'm aware of that. As I said, that's what that particular market seems to demand: "free" games that do their best to coax users to pay microtransactions. It's basically a poisoned market.
That poisoning has expanded to the console and PC gaming market too, and not just in the shape of "free-to-start" games. If you read the comment section of any NL article about a game that has also been released on mobile, 9 out of 10 times you'll find someone calling the Switch version a scam, because they have the "same" game on mobile for "free". Apparently, that's what some people want in consoles too, as baffling as it may seem.
I give Nintendo some credit because they tried a proper game release with Super Mario Run. But mobile gamers spoke with their wallets: apparently, they would rather spend their money on a "free" game with gacha mechanics like that Fire Emblem one. That's what they asked for and that's what they're getting.
Personally, I mostly stay away from mobile gaming and the only "free" games I remember trying on console are Pokemon Picross and Super Kirby Clash Deluxe. The first one I played because a I love Picross, but I found it annoying and muddled with unnecessary mechanics, and the second one I played because I love Kirby games, and I've enjoyed it for over 45 hours without paying a cent. I'm actually considering buying the single payment package just to be fair with the makers of the game (because people deserve payment for their work) and also to send Nintendo the message that I would rather pay full price for a game than get into that microtransaction nonsense.
@MichaelHarvey They are using exactly the monetization practices that the mobile market - and particularly mobile customers, with their purchasing habits - dictates. If a company wants to operate in that market, it HAS to use these practices. Nintendo tried to use different, more traditional practices and mobile gamers complained to no end.
AC Pocket Camp is not a game aimed exclusively at young children, but at people of all ages. Even if there actually were young children expending money on microtransactions in the game, who would be responsible here? Nintendo or maybe those hypotetical kids' parents, who give them money to spend and let them loose in the toxic mobile market without proper supervision?
"Of course, some of the overzealous Nintendo fanboys will defend this. "
Anyway, after reading this sentence, it seems to me that you're not interested in having an actual conversation about this topic, so I'll just leave it here.
@gamer89 "I don't care if game is fair or not fair, disgusting practice is disgusting practice, you aim at people knowing some of them won't resist paying no matter what the reason behind it, they are knowingly implementing such mechanics, if you want to be fair don't implement it at all and charge a entry price and that's it."
As I told you, they ALSO give you the option to "pay an entry price and that's it". So you can pay that price and completely forget about microtransactions, or you can pay microtransactions, or you can endure a few inconveniences and play the game for free.
Personally, I've enjoyed AC Pocket Camp for what it is, but I'll rather wait for the upcoming -and hopefully microtransaction free- AC on Switch.
@gamer89 To be fair, Super Kirby Clash Deluxe is perfectly enjoyable without paying a cent, and they also offer a single purchase package for the price of a regular game, that makes all microtransactions irrelevant. I'm not a fan of microtransaction based games, as they always spoil game progression mechanics, but SKCD is one of the most fair ones I've played.
@MichaelHarvey Why should they be ashamed of trying to make money from their work? AC Pocket Camp costs money to develop and support so why should they give it away for free? Nintendo tried a more traditional monetization system with Super Mario Run and most mobile gamers complained about that. It seems that they'd rather be scammed with "free" games instead of making a single payment for the whole experience, so Nintendo is just trying to give them what they asked for. Which, in my opinion, is exactly what they deserve.
@OorWullie I had the exact opposite reaction to Limbo and Gone Home. I found Limbo to be a pretty mediocre game, mostly based on trial and error, with underused gameplay mechanics, pointlessly dark and vapidly pretentious. Gone Home on the other hand, felt like a revelatory experience. To me, it showed how good a purely narrative game could work. Different strokes for different folks, I guess.
@Iwao Planescape Torment, which NL reviewed after I posted my comment. I was half joking, because I don't really think it's necessarily a better game than BG 2 or Witcher 3 (although some RPG fans may have some good reasons to think so). What I meant to convey is that right now, Switch RPG fans are spoiled for choice, with many of the genre's all time greats being ported to the little machine left and right. Good times!

Summary: "a brief account of the main points of something"
Note the words "concise" and "brief" there.
Re: Review: Assassin's Creed: The Rebel Collection - A Pair Of Brilliant Seafaring Adventures, And More Besides
@Agramonte Conclusion: "the end or close; final part:"
The conclusion is part of the article. Having to detail again what they mean by "usual in the series" in the conclusion after having stated it plain and clear in the article would make for rather tedious reading and defeat the point of having a conclusion in the first place.
In any case, you really should have read the whole review before commenting.
Re: Review: Assassin's Creed: The Rebel Collection - A Pair Of Brilliant Seafaring Adventures, And More Besides
@Agramonte From this very same review:
"It's all part of these game really; stuff that didn't ever really get properly ironed out until Origins and Odyssey"
Maybe you should read the full article before commenting?
Re: Rumour: Ridge Racer 8 Might Not Be Drifting Onto The Nintendo Switch After All
@gloom When do you feel that it has "slowed down"'?

Re: Review: Narcos: Rise Of The Cartels - An XCOM-Style Outing That Doesn't Live Up To The Show
"much like Firaxis Games’ seminal series"
While this sentence is basically true, it may give the wrong impression that Firaxis Games created the X-Com series, which they didn't.

@YozenFroghurt No apologies needed, you caused no offense
Re: A New Paid Membership Service Is Being Added To Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp
Re: A New Paid Membership Service Is Being Added To Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp
Re: A New Paid Membership Service Is Being Added To Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp
Re: Feature: Best Nintendo Switch Short Games
@OorWullie I had the exact opposite reaction to Limbo and Gone Home. I found Limbo to be a pretty mediocre game, mostly based on trial and error, with underused gameplay mechanics, pointlessly dark and vapidly pretentious.
Gone Home on the other hand, felt like a revelatory experience. To me, it showed how good a purely narrative game could work.
Different strokes for different folks, I guess.
Re: Review: The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Complete Edition - An Incredible Action-RPG Stands Strong On Switch
Good times!
