I just can't get behind going all digital. Aside from the obvious of not having a physical product (which is extremely important), and being unable to sell/share the thing you bought and own in its entirity, digital titles are so much more expensive than their physical counterparts. Finding good retail games on sale is rare and the RRP on the e-shop is laughable - they still want £50 for wind waker HD for crying out loud. If they want to sell more digital copies it needs to be outright cheaper than a physical copy, no reward scheme is ever going to compensate for the huge difference in price.
Just give me a box - put just a download code and manual inside if you must but gimme that damn box. Hate digital at the best of times but this is too pricey for a download of a game from 1999.
Final Fantasy Explorers is getting a bad rap mainly by people who brush it off as either a bad Monster Hunter clone, or as a poor Final Fantasy title, but I think they're missing the point. FFE is more like a small co-op mmo-lite. You have your chosen roles and take down bosses with various mechanics and gimicks. it's fun to see how your classes interact with those of your friends and how you can co-operate best. To compare this to a standard RPG is misleading as it is heavily influenced by the mission based boss battles of MH while maintaining a more casual, stat based, customizable style of gameplay. It's a small-scale game (reflected in the price) but can offer up to a hundred or more hours of gameplay for a group of friends. Solo is not advisable as the substance and story line are not enough to carry the experience and random online lobbies are...tricky. Definitely worth a punt for people after a good multiplayer grindfest on the 3ds.
Ok - the one on the left IS Red, but calling him Ash is totally fine as for many, many people, the original trainer in Red and Blue was called Ash, simple as that. It's a part of their childhood and it's all they knew.
The one on the right however is Gary-Gary was here Ash is a loser-Oak.
Looking forward to playing this on release with a friend. Good review too; informative and well-written. You should see IGN's review of this game, reads like it was written by a 13 year old.
The Japanese subbed version of this show is much better than the localised one if you ask me. A lot of the japanese references are dropped and the voice acting isn't very good. And I usually prefer dubbed to subbed, but this one is definitely better in original Japanese.
Already have Hyrule Warriors on Wii U but I'll probably get a lot more play out of the handheld version, This is cheaper than I expected for the special edition (was going to grit my teeth and shell out £60) so i'm reasonaly happy. But as some people have said, i'd rather not have to go through GAME given the choice.
Pre-ordered the standard harback edition. For me, it was a toss up between buying this or a different art book which is also £25 on sale and comes with a sweet vinyl (http://www.funstockretro.co.uk/push-start-the-art-of-video-games) but i'm too much of a sucker for box art, Japanese especially, I'm sure i'll get both at some point though.
I thought this game was pretty neat when I played it, and i'd be interested to see what, if any, gamepad functionality the Wii-U version will have, or even the possibility of online multiplayer. I wrote a review for this game on PC if anyone's interested in a shameless plug http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198067507727/recommended/332250/
I'm just happy it's not Shovel Knight - though that was all but confirmed when the amiibo came out. Maybe they'll put Banjo & Kazooie in the next game...
Kid Icarus is about £16 at quite a few online stores plus it comes with the AR cards and the 3DS stand. Somewhat redundant perhaps, but nice to have for the same price or cheaper than digital.
Xenoblade on wii is the only half decent discount in the whole sale, the rest have been pretty bad. Xenoblade 3DS has been as low as £18 a number of times in the past, as has Bayonetta 2 (inc. Bayonetta 1) Overall, very poor sale, I guess Black Friday just doesn't have the same following in Europe yet. Maybe next year they'll learn.
Wow, we're getting shafted compared to the US sale. These prices are, once again, terrible. Not only that but it's only been reasonably big 1st party games on sale - no indies, no VC...very disappointing.
Nintendo Badge Arcade isn't really a free to play game at all, it's merely an extension of the 3DS themes/Home menu system but framed in a very japanese, nintendo-esque model of also being a little bit of fun. You're paying for the badges themselves first and foremost, the crane game is merely an intermediary step, so again, it's just like buying a theme as opposed to actually paying to 'progress' in a free to play game where the difficulty or tedium ramps up to try and encourage players to spend.
Standard edition is available for £23.86 from ShopTo.net, Game.co.uk is slightly more expensive at £23.99 - cheapest I could find and a pretty good price imo.
I still can't fathom all the negative backlash this game is getting. It looks pretty good, like a Mario Party/Fortune Street hybrid. seriously, we don't need another full Animal Crossing game yet, and even if you believe we do, what's the harm in spin-offs? For what it is, Amiibo Parade looks really solid, I can see young kids loving it and it seems to have a good amount of content. People need to chill - this is a spin-off, you'll still get your precious Animal Crossing in due time...
Wasn't a huge fan of this when I played it - the art style's nice enough but the game's too slow with not enough interaction or exploration to justify the slow pace. If anyone fancies trying it out still, you can get it on key sites now for like £4 which is a much fairer price for a game is this quality.
This one, Mushroom Hills: (3215-0000-0011-A1B4) seems to be the most popular for whatever reason and actually won me a competition recently, though it's not my personal fave.
"The salt is on standby" Seriously? Is there any need?
Besides, I thought the old rumour flying around was about a 3DS Twilight Princess remake? Don't see them doing both but I know which one is more likely. Would still prefer it on handheld though.
@Damo Nice, the game really deserves some attention it's so good for an indie and the developers were pretty friendly. I corresponded with them briefly and managed to (hopefully) secure a press release key - so excited
huh, must have missed this one at EGX - the best game there hands down though was Last Fight - a glorious Power Stone style brawler. Would love to see some coverage on that one.
I'm seeing a lot of negativity here, but for an electronic board game this looks really good. It's cutesy, seems to have a lot of customization options and board events all with their own little skits as well as the minigames etc. If this came out on the Wii or Gamecube people would have loved it. Mario Party is in steady decline and Fortune Street isn't that popular over here so this could be a good fit. It seems people are more opposed to the cards and amiibo than the game itself but amiibo have been pretty divisive since day one. I'm just saying, chill - this game looks neat and i'm sure kids will love it.
I must say, with all the quality levels submitted here I'm very surprised that these were the winners. Crusher Cavern was a really good course but the other two were pretty disappointing. Congrats all the same to the winners but there's some great courses on here that have sadly been passed over.
This game already exists in so many forms (many of which I already have) to even contemplate another purchase. 3D isn't enough to justify buying it for the umpteenth time...now a Sonic Adventure 3DS port with enhanced features and Chao garden, that would be something worth getting excited about.
Look nice, but in need of some polish. Love these types of games even if the market has been flooded lately. Pixel art and animations look pretty fluid - glad it's now on my radar. I wouldn't buy it on Wii-U personally as it'll inevitably be cheaper on PC, but I hope the system gets it once its in a more refined, post-kickstarter state.
These look...average, but without the standardized base these are hardly amiibo and would look really out of place among other amiibo figures. If they're only available as part of that bundle its not even an alternative to existing DK or Bowser amiibo (though these are common anyway), so really, they're just Skylanders that work on the gamepad as I see it. Disappointing.
@CharleSketch To spark outrage and sow discord among the devout Nintendo elite. In all seriousness though, IGA's statement does heavily suggest a Wii-U stretch goal. Loads of games have quite late Wii-U stretch goals, this is nothing new. I predict the campaign will go quite well so we'll probably see it sometime soon. If not, i'm still not too concerned, the only benefit of it coming to the Wii-U would be a gamepad map, so meh. Kinda bummed about no 3ds release though.
I can't honestly think of a better choice than Banjo for being representative of the N64 era in Sm4sh. This would be the perfect opportunity for Nintendo to claw back the Banjo IP too; canonise the bear and bird in Smash Bros, it may be the last chance
I loved this game! But i'll probably skip out on this new version unless it actually adds more/new content as opposed to gameplay "tweaks" and visuals. Still, glad it's resurfaced for folk to try
The remakes are disappointing to see here and probably shouldn't have been on the list at all. 3D Land is surprisingly high up, as much as I enjoy it. Dark Moon just feels kinda soulless compared to the original and the lack of circle pad support baffles me. The lack of Monster Hunter though is really quite bizarre. Fantasy Life also deserved better.
@dronesplitter I'm fully aware that it was a 3ds game first, bought it on release with the circle pad bundle and loved it,but the PC version is overall a better experience and contains new features. Its a great 3ds game, but it's hardly a must-play one anymore.
Fair amount of multi-platforms and remakes on this list, Revelations is great, but better on PC, same with Street Fighter and Castlevania. Don't think it's fair to count OOT and Majora's Mask either to be honest.
I'd add Kingdom Hearts DDD and Tales of the Abyss to this list too.
EDIT: Rune Factory 4 had physical release in the US, i'm counting it.
It's a really good game. Metroidvania style platforming and progression with zelda-esque dungeons and puzzles - great fun. It's already on steam for quite cheap, I wrote a short review for it a while back if anyone's interested http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198067507727/recommended/293440/
