Glad to see Monster Train acknowledged on the site. I was very disappointed that NL didn’t review it. It’s a real gem of a game that more people should play.
@Brumblescope Glad you’re enjoying it too. Yeah, it feels like every run on the lowest level is beatable, which is a huge change from Slay the Spire or most roguelikes in general. I am one win away from having beaten every single combination of clans including the 6th clan that is DLC. I have only beaten Covenant Level 1 so far, but it is a notable increase in difficultly even just going up to that level. My next focus will be on beating all covenant levels. After that I will try to beat the full DLC with the extra boss after Seraph. It will occupy me for well over 100 hours. Money well spent to me.
@geshem Mitch Vogel told me he asked to review it but was told there wasn’t enough interest to do a review… It’s a $30 game that made it to #21 on the US Charts without going on sale and with no reviews. Clearly there is interest
@Shadeon_Koopa I agree. It’s not just NL ignoring this game too. Check Metacritic. 2 reviews. Maybe it’s because it is exactly the same as the XB and Steam versions, but still…
@P3nguinpris0N That’s where I played it first too. Once I beat it for the first time it was announced it was coming to switch, so I purposely waited to play it again until it came to switch. If you like Slay the Spire you will like it a lot. It’s faster paced and takes some time to learn the buffing systems, but it’s pretty amazing. I can’t stop playing it.
Why is it that Nintendo Life is operating as if Monster Train doesn’t exist? It is incredible, and I’m completely confused about why it hasn’t been reviewed or included on this list.
@SwitchVogel That’s pretty surprising. I’m not sure if the titular train runs on steam, but I do hope can get a review sometime. It is charting well on the eShop (digital only) as well, so I’m kind of surprised at the perceived lack of interest or momentum. Thanks for letting me know though. I guess I’ll stop hoping for it. 😜
@SwitchVogel Excellent point about how games can evolve and improve post launch. Random question, but are you guys working on a Monster Train review? I am obsessed with that game.
I’m personally just waiting for the review of Monster Train… Seems like it is flying totally under the radar judging by the lack of reviews on Metacritic.
I think one problem I have with the way a game like Stardew Valley handles this sort is issue is this.
When you choose who you want to court (regardless of gender), they will be happy to oblige regardless of whatever their own personal preference may be. It’s as if everyone is bisexual and simply waiting for you to give them guidance as to which direction to tip the scales. In reality, if another man approached me with romantic interest, I would politely inform him that I am heterosexual.
I know it’s just a game, but the fluidity of sexual preference in that game in particular struck me as odd.
Yeah… don’t care at all about this. I play games to be entertained. That’s all. What I would love to see is inclusion of a review for Monster Train First Class on this site!
This game was such a huge disappointment. Playing through the Mario 3D All-Stars Collection helped me realize why. Getting a star used to feel like a real accomplishment, and it was the fruit of determination through very challenging tasks. In SMO, there were so many moons that required zero effort (pounding the ground when the controller rumbles for instance) that it cheapened the entire experience for me. Also, the music was so incredible in former Mario games, and it all fit so well. Mario Galaxy’s soundtrack is a masterpiece. I found that I had to play SMO muted because the music grated on me. I know there are mercilessly hard moons to collect, but SMO was the most disappointing game I can remember in my gaming life.
@Kalmaro I love roguelike games and this is the best roguelike I have ever played. Losing is a part of the story, rather than just an inevitable element of this type of game. The dialogue and gameplay cycle make it hard to stop playing. Do yourself a favor and give it a try. If you like Dead Cells or Bastion you’ll love it.
I didn’t like Splatoon on Wii U but fell in love with Splatoon 2. I wondered if the same thing would happen for me with Smash Ultimate. But alas, I’m right there with you Gavin. I don’t get it...
As someone who bought a second switch for my kids this Christmas, I would say the biggest issue is the inability to share digital purchases between the two switches. I can re-download games I bought on the second switch, but they can only be played if the game is launched with my profile. The second issue is that some games don’t support cloud saves, so I had to start a second Splatoon 2 account on the second switch to play with my kids. If they adopt the iOS model of purchase sharing, this could be HUGE. Right now having 2 switches is a big hassle.
That was the most fun Splatfest ever for me, and I’ve played all of them. I won 80% of my rounds (Team Knight) and I loved this Shifty Station. Such a great game.
I just want Nintendo to allow game sharing across your family plan. It caused a lot of problems when I incorporated two Switches into our home at Christmas that could have been avoided completely if they simply let me play games I purchased on my primary switch on my secondary. Technically “I” can, but my kids would have to re-purchase games like Minecraft if they don’t want to be forced to play on my profile. It’s just unnecessarily complicated. Allow for game sharing within your family plan, make the mini version sans dock and it will sell like the DS. I know it’s selling well now, but I feel like most sales thus far have been purchased as “household consoles” rather than “personal consoles”. This would make that incredibly tempting.
If this is available as a digital game I will buy it. I am very intrigued, but don’t want a toys-to-life thing, even if it is... an... Arwing... Never mind, if this is even half decent I’m getting this game!
I would pick this up for maybe $10. I'm still shocked thinking how they could price this so badly. I hope it sells terribly at that price point and gets put on regular, significant discounts. With all of the other indie games priced below my "impulse buy" threshold of $15 though, I doubt I'll ever buy this game.
This is one of my favorite games for the Switch and I will definitely be getting into this new chapter. I hope it is designed for the high levels that your characters have reached at this point. If they don't, I'll just have to start a new file and play it on the new one I guess. I really was hoping they would put the PvP battles online, and I'm not sure why they haven't really...
Does Koei Tecmo make anything other Warriors games? None of those has ever interested me, and this wouldn't move the needle at all for me either. I don't enjoy games where you simply spam the attack button for hours on end.
This is another game that looks fun, but they priced it completely wrong.
$10 - $15 seems about right for this style of game, but even if they put it on sale I can't ever see it reaching that price point. It'll be interesting to see how it does.
Got mine pre-ordered already. Just the game though. Can't wait to play this game. It was the game I was most psyched about during the January 2017 reveal presentation.
I’m not feeling it. Reminds me too much of the worst levels of Contra 3. But I hope it does well. Glad to see a company produce an exclusive for Switch.
@Captain_Gonru Very nice. I play Rocket League a little bit most nights. It's a great game for sure, but there's a pretty long learning curve to it. Splatoon 2 is the only other game I play online.
@Captain_Gonru Very nice. Baseball season is always great. I usually make it to safeco field for a few games a year. Enjoy the season! Do you play any games on Switch online?
@Shiryu Love the Metallica reference. Great song, great band. I loved the NES version of this game, but never played the arcade version. Might pick this up.
@DM666 When you say annoying, do you mean that it registers the wrong input regularly? I have that problem too. I bought 5 and took them all home just to check and they all have the same issue. I returned 4 of them though and overall have been fine with it. Playing Tetris is nearly impossible with the Switch Pro controller though...
If you buy a digital game on sale I assume you still get your gold coins based on the full retail price. If so, it’ll just help me be more patient with eShop game purchases.
