Re: Nintendo Download: 30th November (North America)

There is a demo up for Nine Parchments. I played the heck out of it. 2 characters and the first level are available. The game is damn nice looking and has a unique pace to the combat/magic. Playable in co-op too with 4 players.

If the Mrs likes it, it will be one to get.

Oh, stay away from the edges.
You can fall and die easily!

Re: New Electronics Ban on Certain UK and US Flights Includes the Nintendo Switch

Kamalot

Many of my flights take me through one of these countries as layovers. This means that I will have to keep my electronics in checked luggage for TWO 13 hour flights.

Also, I see a lot of people saying, "Won't affect me..." Well that is dandy, but what has that got to do with anything? Imagine you were on a flight that took you through one of these countries, and now all your entertainment is locked away. Think about reading the in flight magazine for 13-26 hours.

Have a little sympathy for those people who lose their freedoms due to paranoia and racism.

Re: Nintendo Switch Lacks A Web Browser Because It's A "Dedicated Video Game Platform"

@NEStalgia "I just don't put faith in browsers on a console to be up to date (because they're not.) And as a general consumer, I actually do like the idea of a return to purpose made machines that do what they're supposed to do well rather than the Sony model of throwing every single feature at it, with half of them broken. "

Well put.
I would rather Nintendo expend their energy on making creative and fun forms of entertainment instead of chasing HTML standards and browser bugs.

Leave the browsers to companies already invested in maintaining browsers. They do it better than you do Nintendo. And likewise, Nintendo makes better games that browser teams.

Re: Nintendo Switch Lacks A Web Browser Because It's A "Dedicated Video Game Platform"

I used to design sites for gaming system browsers, all the way back to the days of the Dreamcast. Making Nintendo DSi-specific sites was much fun and a lot of creativity can be accomplished by living in the limitations of game system web browsers.

Even though I am a huge fan of these alternate browsers, never have I had a browsing experience on a gaming device that came close to surfing on my mobile phone or PC. Gaming system browsers are ALWAYS lacking. The WiiU browser is great, for a gaming system browser, but compared to anything else, it is super-terrible.

I would much rather companies like Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft focus their resources on gaming, and not trying to half-ass what my other devices already do.

One could complain that the Switch lacks a camera, a component in every other gaming handheld since 2008! Almost 10 years!

But I already have other devices that take better photos than my gaming system. I already have other devices that offer a better web browsing experience. I already have other devices that offer better streaming video experiences. I already have devices that offer fantastic voice and video chat.

What I don't have is a device that plays console-quality games in a handheld format. I don't have a device that lets me split the controller and let friends play with me on the tabletop.

Nintendo, please stay focused on making great game experiences. Leave the social media platforms and web browsers to those that already do it well.

Oh, and to those who say the WiiU browser is the only way to read on your tablet while video plays on your TV, check out a Chromecast. With it, your tablet, or mobile, or PC, can stream things to your TV while you continue to use the device. It is much better than the WiiU browsing experience.

Re: Review: Legend of Kay Anniversary (Wii U)

I got this while it was on sale over the holidays and just recently got around to playing. It is surprisingly good! There are some primitive camera issues and the voice acting is wildly uneven, but it is far better in other areas than it has any right being.
The exploration factor and combat end up having a great zen to them. The best part is that the story of a bunch of bully gorillas and manipulative rats who are building a wall to segregate and control the other species is too reflective of our current political climate.

Re: Denis Dyack: X-Men Destiny Accusations Affecting Shadow Of The Eternals Development

Dennis:

If your friends and coworkers continue to run into this wall, this block people have about trusting you, then a little YouTube video isn't going to help.

At this point, step aside. Lots of people would love to give Shadow of the Eternals a chance, including the team looking forward to building it. Your presence is rapidly turning you into boat anchor instead of a buoy. Don't sink this project due to your ego. Step aside. Maybe stay on as a consultant instead of a director. If the game is successful, you'll have another laurel to add to your crown. If it isn't successful, well at least it won't be due to the distrust many people have about you.

In my own humble opinion, the way you publicly aired dirty laundry on previous occasions makes me skeptical of your ability to lead a team. Your rants and broadcast role as a victim to the will of others shows a lack of personal and professional responsibility. I myself loved Eternal Darkness and would adore more in the same universe. Yet with your past behaviors I will not give a dime to any project on which you are associated until a product is released and it achieves glowing press from my trusted sources.

I wish you luck, but don't play the role of victim. It isn't becoming of anyone.

Edit: Plus, work on your 'reading-out-loud' skills. Seriously! It is a fantastic skill to have and will help improve people's confidence of you when speaking publicly.

Re: The Wii U Nintendo Network Will Connect to EA's Origin

Kamalot

I downloaded an EA demo on the 360 once YEARS ago. As part of the setup process, I had to click a few 'I Agree' checkboxes. Instantly I was bombarded with emails from EA.

Just playing a demo automatically set me up on a bunch of their spam lists.

Over the next two months I kept trying to unsubscribe, and eventually had a long, drawn-out conversation via email with a number of their techs. I wanted to be removed from their accounts FOREVER. I eventually got them to remove me from all their BS email 'marketing' lists, but as a result of my experience I am NEVER buying or even playing another EA game.

EA's practice of 'trapping' players into their marketing machine is downright evil, and I refuse to take part in it.

Ugh. This was my least favorite Vitrual Console purchase. I tried playing it with my wife and daughter, and it is so brutally unforgiving that it simply isn't fun.
