Re: Rare Treasures Aims to Chronicle the History of Rare

@OorWullie
Oh to have those prices again! We never had a John Menzies in our town but WH Smith sold games too. I remember buying Creatures for the C64 in there for the sum of £9.99 as it was one of those cardboard boxed games! Also Rick Dangerous (another boxed game) in Woolworths came with a free pocket calculator for some odd reason!

I really hope that this book will cover their Ultimate Play the Game years before becoming Rare. I've got so many wonderful memories of using my pocket money to buy their games for my ZX Spectrum from stores like Woolworths and Boots back in the day!

@Anti-Matter
There is nothing wrong with being irritated; that's something which happens to all of us at the best of times. Just let the harsh comments go as its not worth getting so worked up over. I used to be the same but it really serves no purpose than to annoy others and we're all better than that.

Re: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Stays on the Podium in UK Charts

@Anti-Matter
Please just stop. You are entitled to your opinion, you are entitled to enjoy whatever games you do and you are entitled to dislike whatever you want. But you need to start showing some basic respect and courtesy to other gamers on here. No one is a demon for liking mature games, it doesn't make them evil nor a criminal. Saying 'sorry' before you criticise someone doesn't make it OK and I do hope that you can learn to show the same respect to others that you expect to be shown to yourself.

You are not being quirky or funny or cute, at this stage you are slowly becoming like a troll who simply spams the same hate comments whenever they read something that they disagree with. Give it a rest and come back with a more pleasant attitude so we can ALL discuss the games that we enjoy together.

Re: Video: This is How Single Player Works in The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes

Jimtaro

As others have said, it looks incredibly tedious and dare I say awkward. The idea of the other two Links remaining stationary (and unresponsive to the world around them) when not under player control suggests a great amount of repetitive switching in order to complete even the most basic of tasks.

Not for me at all, at least I've still got the fantastic GBC Zelda games to enjoy!

Re: Hoopa Pokémon Distribution Details for X & Y and ORAS Begin to Emerge

Jimtaro

Can't understand the logic behind this since the 3DS has online capabilities. The GAME near me is prone to messing up the simplest of things such as losing pre-orders, forgetting to include advertised codes or extra content, not being aware of nationwide promotions etc. I imagine going into my local store and asking for a Pokemon code would be met with blank stares and complete confusion before they tell you that they don't know what Pokemon is.

Re: Review: Chibi-Robo!: Zip Lash (3DS)

Jimtaro

Not surprised with the score in the slightest. This game has always had the impression of being a desperate "get something on the shelves, quick" take on a misused franchise, which is a real shame. Would have loved to see a proper 3D Chibi adventure on the 3DS, and I'm still hoping that it will happen no matter how slim the chance. Oh well, onwards to Metroid Federation Force!

Re: Feature: The Biggest Wii U Games of 2015 - Q4 Edition

Jimtaro

Nothing on that list interests me, if I'm honest, but that's ok. I've got Dragon Quest Heroes, Metal Gear Solid V, Mad Max, Just Cause 3, Transformers Devastation and Star Wars Battlefront to keep me entertained on other systems. I wish some of these games would be getting released on a Nintendo console though but oh well, maybe next time.

Re: The Pokémon Company Sues Fan for Copyright Infringement, Demands $4,000 in Damages

So are TPC going to start suing kids too?

Imagine if a child has a Pokemon themed birthday party, with plates, cups and banners full of Pokemon faces. Imagine the kid sends out Pokemon themed birthday invites or adds a picture of Pikachu to his Facebook post announcing his party. Is he not also receiving 'profits' in the form of gifts from others attending the party due to Pokemon?

I can understand TPC wanting to protect their brand but a simple warning message should have been enough in this case. What about the fake Pokemon games and Pokemon adult films? Surly they make more of a profit? Sounds a lot like them going after this poor guy because he was an easy target, very malicious if you ask me.

Re: HyperPlay RPG Is A Glorious Throwback To The Pre-Internet Days Of Homemade Fanzines

Jimtaro

I used to love getting Fanzines in the post back in the 80s! There was always an air of suspicion in sending off £5 in the post to some random stranger but in all fairness, every one of them came through with the goods. I used to get Fanzines on sci-fi and horror movies, commodore games, Kamen Rider and Kung fu movies, they were all made with genuine passion for the subject and were excellent reads. I'm going to check this one out too! Thanks for the heads up NL

Re: Review: Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer (3DS)

Jimtaro

"but the knowledge that no matter how well you meet the client's needs you're going to pass anyway destroys any semblance of challenge" this right here is why I cancelled my pre-order.

At least with the regular AC games you had some sense of accomplishment in catching all the bugs, growing rare flowers, upgrading the shops etc. HHD however just feels too free and thus (to me) boring. It's a shame that there isn't an option to turn on/off requirements that needed to be adhered to in order to 'pass' each design. That way both those who want or don't want a challenge can find something in the game.

@Kage_88
No, they're not ravings of a troll, they're simply someone's opinions which anyone has the right to have. However it's the knee jerk offensive reactions of some people that do come across as ravings. By all means debate and discuss an intelligent response, but telling someone that they shouldn't be on this site simply because they don't blindly support Nintendo 100% (for example) reeks of mindless fanboy behaviour.

Instead how about asking why he thinks Nintendo is holding gaming back, or why he thinks Sony does things better? Or best of all, accept that some people have become jaded with Nintendo for perfectly valid reasons? Anything is better than the instant "you don't like Nintendo so you're stupid" response, that really doesn't help anyone.

Re: Video: Ocarina of Time's Kakariko Village Gets a HD Makeover In Unreal Engine 4

Jimtaro

@OptometristLime
What I'm saying is that it's not a tech demo and shouldn't be judged as such, despite a lot of people doing just that for some very odd reason. I've not considered whether it's impressive enough to stand against modern efforts, or that it needs to be compared to the original, simply because it wasn't intended for such a task and to do so would be illogical.

The creator has simply decided to pay homage (note: not compete with) to a video game location close to his heart, he's used the tools available to him to recreate it as best as he can and wants to share the results with fellow fans. Not to insult his skill, but it's like a child drawing a picture and the parents criticising it for not being an exact match of the real thing. It just doesn't make sense.

Re: Video: Ocarina of Time's Kakariko Village Gets a HD Makeover In Unreal Engine 4

Jimtaro

I'm not sure why people are criticising this for not being good enough or not being able to compete with their beloved Nintendo. This is at best an art project, it's someone using the tools at their disposal to create a homage to something they clearly love (and that's a good thing). He's not competing with Nintendo, nor is he trying to show them up, he's simply giving us fans a chance to see one of our favourite environments in UE4. Personally I think that it looks fantastic, sure it's not exactly how I would have done things, but part of the beauty of art is learning to appreciate the artists vision. I'd love to see more from this chap.

SMB2 Mouser Amiibo confirmed for 2016

To be honest, with all these new Nintendo patents appearing on the Gaf, I've got a feeling that someone somewhere is trolling us hard. Not to say that the patents aren't real, but there sure do seem to be a lot of them floating around at the moment. At this point I think that I'll just wait for the NX specs to be revealed for certain, as no doubt these concepts will be replaced by yet another patent next week.

@Nerevar
Oh man what have you done? How dare you voice a personal opinion about Nintendo that isn't anything other than praise! How dare you want more from the company that you've supported for years? How dare you have desires to see your hobby evolve! Won't anyone think of the children!

I do agree somewhat, I don't think that Nintendo deliberately set out to hold themselves back, but I do fear that they're growing a little lazy and relying on their reputation more than their innovation. The Wii U being dying off so early, the N3DS only utilising its power for one game (could be wrong on this) and the loss of third party support. These all suggest that they're no longer the industry leaders they used to be and are instead, reliant on repeating the same success they've had with previous products. E.g. NSMB games being near identical, the Wii U aiming for the exact same market share as Wii, no new IP's outside of Splatoon.

Though in all fairness "more of the same" is very much a Japanese concept so maybe not Nintendo exclusive, but it does influence them all the same. I agree that can be very frustrating for Nintendo fans who want more.

Re: Talking Point: Star Fox Zero's Delay Could Be The Final Nail In The Wii U's Coffin

Jimtaro

Well done to both Damien and Nintendo Life for publishing an article like this. Some of the comments on here are laughable in their zealot-like reverence for Nintendo, without realising that it's the true fans who want the company to take responsibility for their actions (or lack of) and to see it evolve and grow. People SHOULD want better, otherwise Nintendo is going to get lazy by asking us to "please understand" time after time. Having such a weak winter lineup only three years into a consoles life cycle is a stupid mistake to be making in this day and age. Despite the rough year it's had, Nintendo is a global company and it needs to start acting like one.

Re: Miyamoto: Star Fox Zero Has Been Delayed "I am very sorry"

Jimtaro

Providing that Nintendo make some genuine improvements to the game, and not just obsess over some arbitrary aspect that most people don't care about, then I'm fine with the delay. I just don't want them coming back in six months with an improved frame rate but still lacklustre gameplay.

Re: Video: Did You Know Gaming? Tackles amiibo

Jimtaro

Another interesting video from the Did You Know Gaming Team, well done! Maybe it's just me being overly critical of Nintendo's mish mash direction of recent years, but it seems to highlight how Nintendo still don't fully grasp the concept of forward planning with their products. Stock shortages, limited functionality, already attempting to swap out (or at least substitute) figures with cards etc. Nintendo seem to run with ideas on a whim when instead, perhaps some long term strategies would best be employed.

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo's Challenge With Super Mario's 2D Future

Jimtaro

Next Mario game will be Mario Paints U, whereby an AI Mario paints a random person and you have to click either "yes that's exactly what I look like" or "WTF Mario? That ain't cool" to fully confirm or deny (no in between option) if he got you right.

I'm calling it now, mark my words people.
