Nintendo has released a fresh system update for the 3DS today, and it’s guaranteed to enhance the overall experience. So what exactly does it do? Well, not all that much according to the description below, but it’s presumably been issued to iron out any possible exploits and make a few background adjustments.
Update 10.0.0-27 is a quick download that will make your system that much more stable. Here is the official information from Nintendo:
Further improvements to overall system stability and other minor adjustments have been made to enhance the user experience
Your 3DS should prompt you to update or else you can activate it manually. Let us know in the comments how much you’re enjoying the sweet stability.
Thanks to Ryan Millar for the heads up.

Nah, I'll stay on my current software version with Tubehax. Maybe I'll grab the update once the exploit is updated, but I'm enjoying region-free gaming far too much.
What is Nintendo planning on doing with all of this stability? Are they trying to make the system Tonka Tough or something?
Better than the flimsy software they had on the DS that was easily cracked.
If it fixed freezing that I been getting a couple times lately then that would be great.
Also good to know that I got 2 3DS's
Stable, Ponyboy.
Wow, they finally get to version 10.0, and it's an underwhelming stability update. You'd think there would be more fanfare involving some crazy new enhancements or something.
Let the stability jokes commence!
Cool, I'll update my JP New 3DS. My hacked 2DS is happy on whatever version it's on.
@ReshiramZekrom physically tough?
My 3DS is now more stable than my relationship.
How many times has NL used that paper mario picture now?
Using the paper mario picture shows how stable NL is.
Stability. Because we didn't have that the last million updates.
...Why doesn't the Wii U get crap ton of updates like this thing does? lol
@Megumi I guess the 3DS is still trying to catch up to the Wii U in terms of stability!
the stability is too much for my eyes!!!
Awesome. Extra stability and a bowl of cereal is a great way to start the day.
Just wondering, do you need the latest update to use the eShop and play online?
@TheRaginSteak eShop, yes, play online - no. Unless it's for Smash Bros, because you can't play it online without its own updates, which are on the eShop.
Why is this €170 device more stable than any €500+ smartphone out there?
Not that I mind, most phones are ridiculously overpriced...
This is so stable I could raise a horse on it.
"Is the 3DS now more stable than the PS4?" (which also has a ton of stability updates) is the question we need answered. Let the Stability Wars commence!
@Trikeboy the DS software itself was never cracked. (its only a BIOS file)
The flashcards simply fooled the DS thinking it was an original cart.
Haven't played my 3DS in a while, so I've missed the last few updates I believe... I hope my mind and body will be able to adjust to the intense levels of stability I'll experience once I've updated my system!
Stable over here, Stable over there, Stable in front and Stable from behind!
XD
We got an update today for a more stable 3DS, and a future update for less right-angled wheels in Gunman Clive! Life is good.
After the update my 3ds xl feels to be more stable in my hands.
It's a running joke!
Super stable. My 3ds has been on the table for 10 minutes now and it hasn't moved.
I had a quick look around about this.
Seems like this update did fix one particular security flaw in the 3DS firmware, but otherwise it's still possible to use tubehax, ninjhax and ironhax.
Although the ironhax installer will evidently need a new installer to accommodate the new firmware version.
I guess I'll wait for Smealum to update ironhax, admittedly I've been using a homebrew play coin setter so I can progress on the Streetpass Mii Plaza games.
@RupeeClock yep https://twitter.com/smealum/status/641466481486663680 I will wait also until its necessary to update.5:53 am need coffe
I never notice anything, load times and such for starting up the 3DS are pretty long. Takes a while to load all the icons.
Does that now mean I could balance it on it's corner?
So our 3ds are radioactive cause if we don't update they might go nuclear cause of instability?
the homebrew scene is slow on 3ds,wish there was more into it than just gbc and snes emulation.
Version 10 now just for added stability? There must be something else under the hood that Nintendo isn't revealing yet.
I can just feel the stability surging through my fingers as I clutch my Nintendo 3DS!
@Spyke lol!
So... STABLE😣
@ROBLOGNICK All those updates are purely to update new ways people found to try and circumvent region lock, but they call it "Stability" to imply anything is actually being improved...
If any actual features are being added, Nintendo will be sure to get the word out about that, but "Stability" is just code for "Anti-hacking measures", Nintendo brought this on themselves with using region-lock for 3DS.
But a new version number just to circumvent hacking? It's odd, I think.
@JeffreyG And THAT is why I want a Nintendo phone. $500 Samsung, $40 LG0 both crash frequently and shatter if dropped a foot. my $90 2DS falls in the river, gets knocked into the pool, falls 10 feet onto a hard floor, and still doesn't have a mark on it. Can you imagine a Nintendo phone
Ironhax is still working for me....guess it's not for that.
@MysticX not really. the DSlite was region free, as was the wii, and people still bent over backwards to hack both and get $5 Mario games for free. If anything, the 3DS is the least hacked of any of their consoles.
@russellohh Nope, the Wii was region locked.
Well this isn't for Ironfall, apparently.
the 3ds has become so stable, I can easily stand on it while on the public city bus, eyes closed, in a curves at 140 km/h.

Wow, at some point, the stability radiating from the 3DS might destabilize the fabric of existence around it!
My theory
This is for cross buy,or
SNES coming to 3ds vc
Or club Nintendo replacement.
Or a ground work for in game post on miiverse.
Nintendo direct is becoming more likely yes.
@russellohh The DSi could take firmware-updates (Never had a Wii, can't say anything about the situation there), but DSi didn't have them nearly as often as the 3DS does, i also stand by my "Stability is code for anti-hacking"-claim, if those updates did anything else, Nintendo would be more direct about it, but "We're fighting a losing battle against hacking" is bad PR to put into patch notes.
MORE stability update!
How about instead of adding "stability", give us something interesting!
Someone claimed it jumped up the friends limit to 250. I'm guessing that was a lie? I haven't looked.
Does TubeHax still work?
I ain't updating. Now that I can play games from different regions via Tubehax, I'm never gonna update.
@Chaotic_Eevee I really want to play Miles Edgeworth 2, but it's in Japanese. Would there be a way for me to play it in English using Tubehax?
@russellohh Yeah, I remember seeing some drop tests on YouTube, pretty much every phone got destroyed, but the 3DS XL and Wii U GamePad only got a few scratches. I also saw a video of someone trying to break open his Wii U to get a disc out (it broke due to water damage), and it took a very, very long time to do it. These things are strong.
@JeffreyG I have an army of puppies, and tend to pace while playing. I also live next to a beach. Although I'm MOSTLY careful, it has been dropped into a few liquids, and never had a problem. I can barely look at an Android or iJiggy without it snapping...
I like the Eshop to much to worry about installing Tubehax.
You sure this is a stability update? As soon as the update was complete, the 3DS started bucking like a horse and wouldn't calm down until I fed it hay.
Sweet Sweet Stability
So previus updates keep unestable my 3DS until "now" that is stable. I don´t think so. Search another words to do the update Nintendo, because you are saying us we bought an unestabe system.
Too stable for me. Can't handle it! !!
@Chaotic_Eevee i know im am enjoy im pal ver of inazuma 11 go
I tried balancing my 3DS on a trapeze but it wasn't stable enough. We still need more stability updates.
