Re: Feature: Zelda: The Wind Waker Proved We Don't Always Know What We Want

It's true that we don't always know what we want, but like you said, sometimes devs take risks and we end up with games like Metroid Other M, Star Fox Zero, Sonic Boom or Final Fantasy XIII. It's always a gamble.

Personally I've always loved the graphics of Wind Waker...but I prefer the darker realistic graphics and tone of Twilight Princess even if it didn't aged as well. TP feels more epic. It also doesn't feel unfinished like WW but that's an other argument

@BulbasaurusRex I don't know about that. I'm not an expert of upscaling and emulation, but I've seen DS, PSP and 3DS games being played on big screen through emulation and it looks fine. Emulators don't "redo" any graphics, it's simply upscaling and it looks good.

I also had a lot of fun with my DS games on Wii U, so I don't see any problem with 3DS on Switch.

@jamesthemagi It can't be that hard for most 3DS games I imagine, at least for the games I want ported. I haven't played much of the 3DS, but the second screen is often used for maps like in A Link Between Worlds, Samus Returns, Bravely Default and Second. Of course alterations will have to be done for all the touch controls and stuff, but it can be done, it's been done already

Heck all those Wii U games that were ported to Switch also had dual screen, so it's clearly not an issue

Re: Poll: What's The Best 2D Mario Game?

Isaix

Either SMB3 or SMW, the New Super Mario bros games are too easy to be the best.

Mario Maker is awesome, but loses a few point for the mispotential. Too many missing enemies and stuff

Re: Mini Review: Timothy And The Mysterious Forest - Imitates Zelda's Visuals But Not Its Gameplay

Isaix

Not to bash the game, it could be an ok game, but it's not surprising to see such a low score. If a game basically steal graphics from another game, it shows how the devs are willing to cut corners. If they are lazy making the graphics of the game they'll be lazy with the gameplay mechanics and the game's design in general too just like that Hollow Knight rip off.

You can take inspiration from other games that's fine, but you have to give it a unique identity like that indie game with the octopus that's clearly inspired by Kirby Dream Land. That game was fun.

Re: Soapbox: Grinding Is Poor Gameplay Design That Doesn’t Respect Your Time

Isaix

In most RPGs, the amount of grinding you need depends on your skill level I'd say. Someone who's not good at Final Fantasy might need to grind to lv 99 to beat the final boss, but a good player could beat it at lv 20.

In the case of the old Final Fantasy games, the game don't force you to grind unless you consider exploring a cave grinding. I don't remember needing much extra grinding to beat any of the old FF games(In the remakes at least. 1,2 and 3 on NES might be something else in terms of difficulty)

Re: Yes, Bowser's Fury Really Is Its Own Standalone Mode In Super Mario 3D World On Switch

Isaix

@Averagewriter It would be better for Mario too. In Super Mario 64 DS, they've added a seventh star in every world and the Castle is full of extra missions you do alongside the old levels. It's fun to go through the extra levels to unlock Mario, Luigi and Wario. Those levels could have been seperate from the main game too but they're not. In Yoshi's Island on GBA they've added 1 or 2 levels I believe in every world. In DKC Returns 3DS the extra levels are post game.

So it can be done with Mario games too

Re: Yes, Bowser's Fury Really Is Its Own Standalone Mode In Super Mario 3D World On Switch

Isaix

@Varkster But wouldn't it be more fun in Xenoblade if you could tackle the Bionis Shoulder at your own pace alongside the post game? In Kingdom Hearts 2 Final Mix, the extra content has a lot of new abilities you can use thoughout the entire game. It's fun to fight Sephiroth with Limit Form that wasn't available in the original verison.

If the Final Mix content was seperate it would still be cool to fight Lingering Will and Data Org. with the new abilities, but it wouldn't be as organic for the entire expirence, it would feel like some kind of underwhelming demo

Re: Yes, Bowser's Fury Really Is Its Own Standalone Mode In Super Mario 3D World On Switch

Isaix

It's weird how they keep making those remasters/ports expensions, like Xenoblade Future Connected, Bowser's Minions, etc. seperate from the main game. It would feel more organic if it was added to the main game after the final world maybe. When you play the Final Mix versions of the Kingdom Hearts games, the extra content was add for the post game, Super Mario 64 DS has extra content spread throughout, the 3DS version of Donkey Kong Country Returns expends the world 9, Pokemon FireRed has a post game, the Color Dungeon of Link's Awakening DX was added in the graveyard of the overworld, etc.

Not that Bowser's Fury will be bad or anything, but personally I think it would have been cooler if Bowser's Fury was unlock after the main game with a new requirement like hidden coins in every levels or simply after the Champion's Road, I don't know
