Re: Nintendo Switch 2 System Transfer: How To Move All Games, Saves, Profiles From Switch 1

InvisiBulbasaur

Can we transfer data from multiple old Switch/OLED/lite consoles onto one new Switch 2? For example, if I want to transfer my playtime stats from my original Switch (which I will be retiring into storage along with my older Nintendo consoles) and transfer my downloaded games and save data from my Switch OLED (which I will still keep using as a backup/second screen for multiplayer games).

Re: Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 Game Line Up Hasn't Been Decided "Yet"

InvisiBulbasaur

It feels a bit early for Konami to bundle MGSV in a collection when they can easily still sell it standalone, maybe as a "remastered" port with some bonus content, however sparse and barebones that may be. I know it's almost a decade old, but a Switch 2 port would still feel pretty current gen.
I could see them releasing MGS4, Peace Walker, and Portable Ops as the main games of volume 2, with Ghost Babel and the Acid games as the bonuses. MAYBE Rising.
I'm still waiting to see whether they'll ever port Twin Snakes, maybe as DLC, or maybe even as a Nintendo exclusive, but I'm not holding my breath.
Maybe we'll see Ground Zeroes, Phantom Pain, and Delta in some future volume 3.

Re: Poll: What Was The First Pokémon Game You Played? Nintendo Wants To Know

InvisiBulbasaur

For the first year or so after Pokémon first hit the USA, I thought it was a dumb fad and had no interest. I think my first exposure to it was the anime, which I didn't like.
The first Pokémon game I can remember playing was Snap at an N64 demo kiosk, probably at Toys R Us. Then I got Stadium, and played the multiplayer games with my brother for a couple of months until we got Red and Yellow, respectively.
I don't really remember why we got Stadium first. I think maybe it was a birthday gift, and then I got Red for Christmas?
After that, my brother and I were obsessed with Pokémon for about four or five years. The shine wore off after Ruby/Sapphire.

Re: Poll: So, How Do You Pronounce 'Live A Live'?

InvisiBulbasaur

I've always called it "liv alive" because that's what made sense to me, it makes it sound like a catch phrase, "I just try to live alive every day."
But since I heard the very deliberate pronunciation in the Direct, I've been saying it the same way the Nintendo staff do.

Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl: Duel #95 - Earthbound / Mother 2

InvisiBulbasaur

The Japanese box art is cool, but it just doesn't convey the game's lighthearted wackiness. If I knew nothing about the game and these two boxes were sitting side by side at the game store, I would think they were two completely different games. I would also assume that Mother 2 was a much more serious game than EarthBound.

Now, Mother/EarthBound Beginnings on the other hand... The mock boxart we got for NSO is hideous. The boxart for Mother is much, much, better.

Re: Random: A New Video Debunks A Long-Believed Claim About The Creator Of Pokémon

InvisiBulbasaur

My dad, who is on the spectrum and is obsessed with Pokémon, told me about this rumor at some point, which he accepts as fact. He seemed pretty excited to have something significant in common with the creator of his favorite game series, so I think I'll keep this knowledge to myself.
It seems plausible enough that Tajiri is somewhere on the spectrum, but I respect the man's privacy not to want to know more.

Re: Mother 3 Producer Would "Love To See" GBA Entry Receive A Worldwide Release

InvisiBulbasaur

I've always thought, maybe in a remake or remaster they could just replace the magypsies with Mr. Saturns or something. That way you'd still have the quirky genderless race of characters, but in a form that's more palatable to current/Western audiences. They'd already be localizing the script so rewriting some dialogue entirely wouldn't be a stretch.
I completely forgot about the mermen, but replacing them with mermaids or even non humanoid sea creatures like dolphins or pufferfish seems pretty simple.
I know this kind of so called censorship (read: localisation) would upset the purists, but A) these are akin to the kind of changes that Nintendo makes to their games all the time, and B) anyone who insists on playing the game in its original form or directly translated can easily do so and likely already has.
I'm willing to bet that the number of people who would buy a heavily localized remake, remaster or even port of this game, thanks to their familiarity with EarthBound, Smash Bros, RPGs, or the Mother 3 meme itself, is greater than the number of people who would refuse to buy it to protest censorship.
The people who would complain about it on Twitter are already complaining about Nintendo every day anyway. I think some people really overestimate the impact and influence of the vocal minority. When was the last time they accomplished anything, when Nintendo removed sombrero Mario from the Odyssey box art but not from the game itself?

And before anybody @'s me, yes, I know that localization often involves censorship, but there's a difference between the kind of censorship imposed on art by external forces, such as governments, in an effort to suppress any ideological threat to their power, and the self-censorship of localization, when companies present alternate versions of the same product to different audiences in order to maximize profits.
One of these things is authoritarianism, the other is just marketing.

Re: Random: The World's First Gamer Nut Butter Is Made For Gamers To Eat While Gaming

InvisiBulbasaur

After reading the words "Gamer Nut Butter" in the headline, I knew I had to congratulate @KateGray on discovering the worst food name of all time. After reading the article and being informed it's actually called Jobbie Pong, my soul departed my body as I realized just how little I comprehended of pain, and sank into the hitherto unfathomable abyss of existential despair.

Also I visited their website out of morbid curiosity and I'm pretty sure it gave me a virus. Not a computer virus, just a virus.

Re: Three Kirby amiibo Appear To Be Getting Reprints (North America)

InvisiBulbasaur

I wonder why they're mixing and matching the Kirby amiibo. I mean, the Smash Dedede amiibo definitely looks a lot better than the Kirby series one, but why not go ahead and reprint Smash Kirby and Meta Knight? They're all getting pretty expensive.
Also, where is Waddle Dee?

The Byleth reprint is cool, but I'm starting to think that the third party SSBU amiibo will never get reprints. Hero and especially Joker are getting harder and harder to find for a decent price these days.

Re: 'Pandemic' Will Apparently Be Removed From The Switch eShop This July

InvisiBulbasaur

@Kochambra Hey, I never said this whole thing was just a clever ruse to sell more copies.
I'm sure they would have preferred to save the most profitable version for last, as I said in the portion of my comment which you quoted, they may have reluctantly delisted the initial versions.
As you said, the different versions are most likely being delisted in the same order they were released.
There are certainly elements at play here that are outside of Asmodee's control.
All I'm saying is that in the realm of business you have to look at everything through the lense of profits vs losses. I see a business trying to generate some profits from a loss. Most likely it would have been more trouble than it was worth to keep the game listed.
Now they're making some last minute sales, because controversy sells. They don't even need to have planned it that way from the beginning for it to be true.
This is hardly a conspiracy theory.

Re: 'Pandemic' Will Apparently Be Removed From The Switch eShop This July

InvisiBulbasaur

Controversy sells.
This game was released shortly before a real global pandemic broke out, bringing more attention to a mediocre board-to-video game than it would have otherwise received.
I remember a fair amount of people were talking about this game back in 2020 for various reasons.
I haven't heard anything about this game in at least a year, and I completely forgot that it existed.
Now the game is being delisted for what are most likely very boring corporate reasons. But, there's a business opportunity here.
Rather than quietly delisting it everywhere all at once and only addressing this after the fact, Asmodee has removed (willingly or reluctantly) a few different versions of the game, and then announced the dates the remaining versions will no longer be available for purchase.
And rather than give an explanation (whether or not they are legally able to), they simply state that they cannot disclose the reasons, and allow people's imaginations to run wild with thoughts of mysterious shadowy forces swooping in to take our video games away.
Now there are articles on gaming news sites, and people are talking about Pandemic again on social media.
This gives Asmodee the opportunity to eke out some last minute sales as people panic buy the game for fear of missing out, or in protest of censorship and cancel culture.
And because they never explained why, they get to look virtuous to some (for delisting such a profitable game for vague moral reasons), and like a victim of censorship to others.

And that, my friends, is how you turn boring legal junk, like deciding not to renew your license for a game that is no longer profitable, into free publicity and viral marketing to generate sales.

Re: GoldenEye 007 Is Getting A Digital Release, But Not On A Nintendo Console

InvisiBulbasaur

But @Damo , if people stop complaining about every single article on NintendoLife, who is going to do the incredibly important, nay, absolutely vital work of holding video game journalists accountable?
After all, it weren't for these ever vigilant guardians of truth and accuracy, you lot would probably stop publishing Nintendo news altogether and just write endless articles about Sakurai's cat!

Re: Pokémon Red And Blue's "Technology Is Incredible" Guy Gets A Cameo In The Latest Pokémon Evolutions Episode

InvisiBulbasaur

Watching the timeline video makes it seem like technology in the Pokémon universe peaked around the turn of the century and has just sort of stagnated since then.
The ability to store physical items and LIVING CREATURES as data in a PC and even send them THROUGH TIME seems a lot more impressive than wireless communication, online gaming, and smartphone/game console connectivity.
Apparently this guy is just very enthusiastic about any and all technology.

Re: Video: Sonic The Hedgehog 2 Official Movie Trailer Released

InvisiBulbasaur

Great trailer. The first movie was decent, and this one is shaping up to be even better.
I played through the original Sonic trilogy for the first time about two years ago, so they're still pretty fresh in my mind. I appreciated the references, and I'm excited to see the final film. I may even see it at the cinema!

Re: A New Smash Bros. Would Need A Smaller Roster, Admits Sakurai

InvisiBulbasaur

Some thoughts...
I'd be okay with a 3D fighting game or an action RPG or adventure platformer as spin offs, but I don't want any of those to replace the traditional Smash Bros. series.

It's inevitable that Smash Bros. would have to cut down its roster at some point. I'd hate to see any of my favorites get cut, but they could always return to the roster as DLC or in a sequel.
No one would have been as excited to see Pichu and Young Link in Ultimate if they hadn't missed a game or two.

I'm not opposed to them cutting down the roster to 30-50 fighters to start out with and increasing the size with regular DLC, adding new and returning fighters and stages.
I enjoy regular updates more than unlocking everything right away, anyways.
I'm okay with paying for veterans, especially if they come with stages or are cheaper than new content.
Veterans as free DLC would be super cool, but I understand that game devs need to make a living.

Overall I actually like the idea of retooling and rebalancing the older fighters, bringing them into the modern era (Samus and DK come to mind), rather than just adding 20 new characters to the existing roster and only giving the oldest characters minor updates.

"Everyone is Here" can't last forever, sadly.
But that doesn't mean they can't eventually revisit that concept in ten years or so, when it's novel and exciting again, rather than a given.

Re: Sonic The Hedgehog 2 Movie Poster Revealed Ahead Of A First Look At The Game Awards

InvisiBulbasaur

@Hikingguy @HamatoYoshi

I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed the movie, but the first trailer set such a low bar, it wasn't hard to exceed my initial expectation that it would be a dumpster fire.
It's disappointing that, whenever a video game doesn't have a detailed plot to draw inspiration from, screenwriters always seem to default to either A. person from the "real world" is transported into a video game, or B. character from a video game ends up in the "real world."
Aside from the clichéd, generic plot, the main thing that held the movie back, for me at least, was Jim Carrey.
I dislike him as a person, and I find him bland and boring as an actor, because, with rare exceptions, he typically phones in his performances by just playing variations of his own comedic persona, whom he's been playing since his stand-up days.
I don't expect him to be Daniel Day-Lewis, but Jim Carrey was playing Jim Carrey in a mad scientist costume, not Ivo Robotnik.
I'll wait to see how he does in the sequel, but for now I think he was horribly miscast.

Complaints aside, I thought the movie was pretty okay. I got a good laugh at the crazy hermit character using infamously bad Sonic fan art as his rendition of the "blue devil" he was trying to capture.

Re: Gamers Vote Nintendo DS As The Console They'd Most Like To See Make A Modern Comeback

InvisiBulbasaur

There were things that I really liked about second screen gaming: full screen interactive maps, using portions of the touch screen as virtual buttons, and the like.
Sometimes I think it would be neat if the Switch connected to TVs wirelessly and acted as a second screen, the way the Wii U gamepad did.
But most of the time when I'm playing Switch games, I don't find myself wishing for a second screen.

I have always thought it would be cool, though, if there were some kind of DS shaped attachment with its own buttons and screen, that you could slot the Switch into, turning the Switch into the bottom screen.
It could have a DS/3DS card slot for backwards compatibility, plus Wii U ports could keep or regain their GamePad features.

I definitely do not miss having separate, dedicated home and handheld consoles. Combining them was genius and I want to see that concept continue to evolve.
If Nintendo's next console is somehow able to be more powerful yet more portable, I will be thrilled.

Heck, maybe it could have one of those fancy folding screens like some of the new smartphones have.
Now THAT would be something.

Re: Mario Movie Producer Defends Chris Pratt's Casting, Says The Voice Is "Phenomenal"

InvisiBulbasaur

They might be taking the Detective Pikachu route where they'll have some built-in story reason for a well known character having a completely different voice, or maybe the Sonic the Hedgehog route where he'll kinda sound like the character but mostly sound like the actor.
I still think they're going to reference the high-pitched stereotypical Italian accent with a throwaway gag, then Chris is just going to use his "animated character voice" we've heard in the Lego Movie and Onward. A little wink and a nod to the audience that says "we know what you were expecting but we're not doing it because it's too silly."
I love Chris Pratt's work in stuff like GotG and Parks and Rec, but I'm disappointed they passed over Charles Martinet in favor of Star Power.
Anyone who thinks listening to Martinet's Mario and Luigi voices for a full movie would just be too annoying isn't giving him enough credit as a voice actor. He wouldn't have to turn it up to 11 for the whole film. He can tone it down.
SpongeBob's voice is high pitched and annoying and Tom Kenny makes that work. SpongeBob is one of the most popular cartoon characters in the world, even among adults.
And what about Mickey Mouse? Disney has barely deviated from Walt's original take on the voice, despite the fact that it was simply a grown man's best attempt at sounding like a squeaky little mouse. Walt was no Mel Blanc. And yet that voice became an integral part of the brand. And whenever they recast, they prioritize the voice over the actor.
Mario is the video game equivalent of Mickey. I would have liked to see him treated with the same reverence.

Re: Pac-Man Museum+ Brings 14 Games In The Series To Switch

InvisiBulbasaur

Did Namco lose the rights to Ms. Pac-Man or something? I never see her anywhere anymore.

And I agree with others who lamented the absence of Pac-Man Vs, Pac-Man 2 and the Pac-Man World games. If they're going to put together an anniversary compilation, they might as well include every game they can feasibly port.
If this had the World games I would buy it.

Re: MultiVersus From Warner Bros Is A Free-To-Play Platform Fighter, Skipping Switch

InvisiBulbasaur

I think this will either come to Switch eventually, or the sequel will come to Nintendo's next console, which will hopefully have better online.
Either way, it's cool to see the platform fighter subgenre growing. I like seeing more and more companies taking an interest in crossover games in general.
I wonder how long it will take before Disney throws their hat in the ring.
Matchups like Mickey Mouse vs. Homer Simpson vs. Spider-Man vs. Darth Vader would be very entertaining.

Re: Random: Smash Bros. Director Masahiro Sakurai Just Bought An Xbox Series X

InvisiBulbasaur

@Classic603
Oh, I'm silly, alright. LIKE A FOX.

Maybe the joke went over your head. See, the joke is that people who complain about certain articles, still take the time out of their day to click and comment. Some of them do this a lot. A few seem to comment on every article just to complain. The irony is that not only are they wasting their own time to accuse the staff of that very same offense, they're actually ensuring that the kind of content they don't like only continues to get posted, because every click generates revenue for the website, which is kinda how they stay in business. And boy do these Sakurai Twitter articles get a lot of clicks!

Tldr; my comments are long because I have a lot of mockery to make of this silly, whiny, counterproductive comment section. Also, I'm at work, so I'm getting paid to sit here and write this right now. I can do this all day.

Re: Random: Smash Bros. Director Masahiro Sakurai Just Bought An Xbox Series X

InvisiBulbasaur

Oh boy, it's the Anti-Sakurai Society and the Slow News Day Brigade! Everyone loves their witty and insightful criticism!
I hope they'll let me join their club!

Wahhhh!
Stop posting silly content, Nintendo Life! You know how much I hate clicking, reading, and commenting! I can't believe how much of my time you just wasted! And you're still wasting it!
I don't find this interesting or amusing and neither should anyone else!
Wahhhh!!!
This isn't news! I want news!
From now on, I only want to see articles about major, exciting Nintendo news! There's enough of that happening that you could write about it every single day, keep the website running, and keep all your staff employed.
Wahh! Slow news day! Look at how much of my time you're wasting!
Waaaaahhhh!

And most of all, I'm so sick of you people posting articles about incredibly popular game directors! Especially Sakurai! What is this, a cult?! The man only exists to entertain me and I'm so sick of you wasting my time talking about him!
"Oh, Sakurai's arm hurts, he got a boo boo, he had to get hooked up to an IV bag, boo hoo!"
That's not gaming news!
"Yay, Sakurai is on vacation, he works so hard and we're happy to see a fellow human being enjoying his life!"
Not news! He doesn't work hard and he doesn't need a break! Anyone could do his job! I could do his job! I could do it better!
I don't want to read about him unless it's about a game he's working on and even then you'd better keep it to a minimum! I don't want to see his dumb poo poo head face! Everyone stop talking about him!
"Oh, Mr. Sakurai tweeted about a game he's playing! We love you Sakurai-sama, notice us senpai, marry us!"
Who cares?! I play games! Why don't you write an article about that? Sakurai uses the toilet, too! Are you going to write an article about that? I'm so original for saying so! I use the toilet, too! I'm on the toilet now! I've been here for an hour writing this comment! Write an article about me! Stop posting about things I'm not personally interested in! I have to read and comment on everything and you post and you're wasting so much of my time!
I hate NintendoLife! Why am I here?!
Wahh! Waaaahhhhh! WWAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!

Re: Random: Brie Larson's Back In A New Metroid Dread Instagram Ad

InvisiBulbasaur

I wish I liked Brie Larson. I honestly want to like her. She and I have enough in common that I feel like she would be interesting to talk to. But there's something about her that just rubs me the wrong way. She strikes me as being arrogant and possibly even a little narcissistic, without having the charisma to get away with it. She reminds me of teenage girls who pretend to be very confident as a way to mask their insecurities, but just come off as awkward and phony.
That said, actors in general tend to annoy me. That's why I don't pay much attention to anything they do outside of acting. I just watch the movies and leave it at that.

And I can't see her playing Samus well. She performs a lot better in dramas like Room than in action movies like Avengers. Elizabeth Olsen would be a better choice, in my opinion, or possibly even Emily Blunt, Scarlett Johansson, or Yvonne Strahovsky. All better action stars, (in my opinion).
That said, since Brie's apparently a fan of the Metroid series, that's a plus. Maybe she would actually respect the source material more than other actresses and that would make for a better movie. At least it would still be a better casting than anyone in the Super Mario movie.
