It's been a while since we got an update about the Sonic the Hedgehog 2 movie, but today we've got some exciting news.
Tails' voice actor has been officially confirmed as Colleen O'Shaughnessey. The talent has already been voicing the character for many years and will now also be voicing him in Sonic's second movie outing. She'll join Ben Schwartz as Sonic, and Idris Elba as Knuckles.
Following the announcement, Sonic's big screen voice actor and the director gave her a warm welcome via social media:
Ben Schwartz - THE LEGEND @VOColleen WILL BE VOICING TAILS IN #SonicMovie2!!! She is incredible in this movie! Can’t wait for everyone to see! HOORRAYYY!!!!!!
Jeff Fowler - Welcome back Colleen! We could not be more lucky to have you!! #SonicMovie2
As previously noted, O’Shaughnessey started out as the voice of Tails in 2014 - working on the Sonic Boom animated series. She also appeared as Tails' in the Sonic the Hedgehog film, but until now it had not been confirmed she would reprise her role in the follow-up.
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is currently scheduled to arrive in cinemas on 8th April 2022. Will you be watching? Tell us below.

Awe....
I was hoping Chris Pratt would voice him
Imagine she plays him in the end credit of 1 and it's just a different person in 2, that would've sucked
This is awesome!
@Blooper987 I was hoping it was brie 😃
@NintendoByNature The cheese? (JK)
@FroZtedFlakerZz Maybe it was signed already back then, but unannounced for "spoilers reasons" ?
YESSS! I had such high hopes she would be voicing him.
Why aren't the other characters being voiced by their real VAs?
Glad to see they want to preserve some of the voice talent! Very much looking forward to this movie!
Love that Sonic 2 music!
@Aurumonado Because VA's don't sell well as hollywood actors. I mean it's sad but that's Hollywood for ya. Better to find a A or B list celeb with little to no experience to sell tickets, than people who are pros in the field.
LETS FREAKING GOOOOOO!!!
Wanted to see the first film at the cinema but missed it. Just watched it on Netflix and loved it, can't wait for 2!
And the fact Tails AND Knuckles is in it well that's awesome.
Can’t wait for paramount to announce Dwayne Johnson voicing Amy
@Blooper987 He's so cool!
I hate that there was any uncertainty about this. Saw a lot of comments online suggesting that she might be replaced with a celebrity. Maybe that was the plan but I'm glad it didn't happen.
If you read the article's title out of context it sounds like "VA that voices this character will voice the very same character" which would boggle the mind of the average Joe who has no idea what a "Tails" is.
All that to say, I'm glad for the choice and very happy for the voice actress
I have never watched Sonic Boom but I appreciate the continuity of using the same voice actor for this movie, it is always weird when the keep changing up voice actors, especially if the previous one was beloved by fans. I am curious as to how the Mario movie will turn out because of that.
Hell yes i will!! The first movie was pretty great. Can't wait for the 2nd!
@Bobb Came here to say something similar. "It's Official, Tails' Voice Actor Is Voicing The Character In Sonic's Second Movie". As if any alternative is an option. Whoever voices Tails is his voice actor, whether they have voiced him in the past or not. It'd be newsworthy if that somehow didn't happen. The headline needs an adjective. Tails' Longtime Voice Actress or something like that.
Well, this is the best video game movie casting I've seen in... ever?
I figured they'd cast Finn Wolfhard or Jojo Siwa or something like that.
Ben Schwartz was a decent choice. At least he sounds like Sonic.
Can't wait to hear the hilariously ill fitting voices coming out of the Super Mario characters next year...
@Aurumonado @Vexx234
Actually Ben Schwartz is an actual voice actor who also does the voice of Dewy Duck in the new DuckTales reboot and Leonardo in the Rise of TMNT series, his voicing experience and personality made for an excellent fitting for this version of Sonic in contrast to the more serious and sarcastic version that is Roger Craig Smith so i think this was an excellent well made decision that had nothing to do with selecting a Hollywood actor. However, the ssme cannot be said about Knuckles... Idris Elba was probably picked because of the Hollywood reason, and possibly other reasons. I've heard his voice and it is very different to the Knuckles we know so this will probably be the same case as the Super Mario movie in which we have to wait and see how it turns out.
@Onett I agree!
I enjoyed the first movie, this looks like it could be a lot of fun as well.
