@Jakejm79 Sorry, I should have been more clear. I figured that saying the "current design" would get across that this new product was doing something different.
@Meehanuk_1987 With the current design for sticks, all controllers will drift eventually. Standard controllers like the Pro Controller, Xbox, and DualShock are just more durable due to size allowing for more durable materials.
@Serpenterror Both Octopath and Triangle Strategy push the Switch pretty hard. While they have a pixel aesthetic, everything is rendered in 3d and there are a lot of very taxing modern effects used. Octopath runs at subnative resolution and Triangle has framerate drops when there is a lot happening on screen. It's not unreasonable that a small studio making a game funded through Kickstarter doesn't have the capacity to do a proper Switch port.
@GrailUK It's kinda nutty, everyone acts like the series is being milked and released too quickly but seven years is a long time and it's not uncommon in the industry.
If we're talking Nintendo, both Zelda and Mario were even faster.
If we're talking more modern games, the entire Mass Effect trilogy and Tomb Raider reboot trilogy took five years, the Uncharted Trilogy was only four years.
@AndyC_MK111 GamePass' offering is head and shoulders more expansive than NSO+, but the yearly cost for it is significantly higher. Even accounting for the price difference I'd still say that Gasspass is a better value but it does seem an unfair comparison considering Microsoft is marketing the Xbox entirely around the service.
I will say that I appreciate NSO+ more than PS+. I haven't gotten anything good out of PS+ in what feels like ages.
@gaga64 NPD did a study about five or six years ago showing that something like 26% of people playing videogames buy DLC. Obviously the numbers have gone up in recent years, and the rise in games as a service has changed how we consume our gaming content but the purchase rate for single player DLC hasn't gone up in the same way. So there is probably still a fairly significant portion of the Splatoon 2 audience that may benefit from this.
@AndyC_MK111 I agree in preferring to pay for it. But if you are already paying for NSO+ then this is nice to sample them before purchasing or checking out one of lesser interest.
@rjejr No worries. Yeah I've been here for a while but I have been a lot less active as of late which I think is why you saying your kid is in college surprised me. I just remembering you posting about them being much smaller.
I got over having Covid last week. Thankfully I was pretty mild. Hopefully your case is pretty easy going as well.
@zool What an individual retailer decides to do once the game is on their shelves is a totally different matter. If Curry's decided to knock 10£ off the MSRP off the game three days after it comes out that's up to them.
A handful of developers have actually discussed this before. Most notably Grey Box/Tequila Works with the release of Rime on Switch.
@EarthboundBenjy Educated guess, something to do with maintaining a relationship with brick and mortar businesses. Game pricing is hamstrung by the cost of manufacturing (which is notoriously expensive for Switch games) and the fact that stores want to see price parity for digital and physical releases. Releasing a 40 dollar physical version at GameStop/Bestbuy/Walmart would force them to release the EShop version at the same price.
Releasing only on Play-Asia, a site that caters pretty heavily towards collectors and importers, allows them to charge what they need to in order to make a profit on physical sales while also not potentially pricing themselves out of the digital market.
@moodycat Launching a physical game is significantly more costly than a digital release. It's not, "taking advantage of collectors." There's a reason you don't see any physical games whatsoever launching for less than 30 or 40USD.
Need to remember to order the physical version as this game has been on my list for a while. But I do still have to finish Triangle Strategy and I just bought Tunic last night.
If anyone here has an Xbox or a moderately capable PC, I cannot recommend Tunic highly enough.
@Specter_of-the_OLED The developers very straight up said it won't be coming to Switch. It would seem an odd thing to lie about if it was in fact still in the pipeline.
@twicesmt Is it though? I'm seeing a lot of scores in the 4/5/6 range. And all of the complaints in the reviews I've actually read through have been pretty much the same.
Unfortunate as I was looking forward to this but it seems like more time in the oven would've been wise.
@RupeeClock I've had luck placing two separate orders with Fangamer and then emailing their customer service to mash them both up into one shipment before. They've been super cool and just refunded the shipping cost for one of them.
@Kimyonaakuma I don't think the visuals are going to be more detailed in the final release, but I imagine the resolution and framerate will be cleaned up a bit similarly to Arceus' reveal vs the final product.
@Lizuka I agree with this view. I get in hindsight that the raunchy behavior Date showed was supposed to be hinting at something, but there really were much better ways that could've been shown.
The secretary ending is one of the funniest things I've ever seen in a game though. I was dying when I found that.
@blindsquarel Saving changes could be a give or take, I'll give you that. But the Bombers Notebook opening and playing the whole animation every single time you talked to someone was infuriating, really no different than the rupee pickup complaints from Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword. It's just an unnecessary break in the action. Also dear God the Bomber kids chasing after Link to give unneeded hints and then interrupting cutscenes in Clocktown. Like WHY does that need to be a thing.
Deku mask form lost the ability to fast hop between lillypads by spinning which completely breaks the flow of the forest. And also makes it incredibly difficult to leave the maze race under the Deku Palace.
The bosses may not have been super difficult in the original, but the remake makes them worse.
I'm not saying the remake is a bad game by any means, but the original is definitely the best way to play it still. For every thing that was improved in the remake something else that didn't need to be changed was negatively impacted.
@KimBread Changes to certain mechanics just don't feel very good. I don't want to go through and list them all, but movement mechanics for the Zora, Deku, and Goron were all changed to be slower.
Boss fights are also redone for "clarity" but this also removes some of the more open ended aspects of boss fights. Odolwa for instance could be attacked and damaged in a few different patterns in the original. In the remake you HAVE to use the Deku flower in the room to fly up on the air and drop Deku Nuts to stun him.
There are more things, changes to the bombers notebook the save system, and some of the visual changes for instance but the first two parts are the big ones.
@Mattock1987 Agreed. Thankfully Nintendo is pretty good about getting review copies out in time for journalists to post impressions before the games actually release.
@Jango-Forest Motion controls ARE an option if you are playing on the TV. Just need to turn them on in the settings. I tried them for the first time last night and they work pretty well.
@Aurumonado Well one of them is Yasuo. Who is basically the Charizard of League of Legends. Can't NOT slap him in the game somewhere, even if canonically he's got nothing to do with Bilgewater. (This all applies to Ahri as well. But with boobs.)
Braum is just there for some good himbo representation.
@jancotianno FIFA got a 2/10 on Switch for being the literal same game it has been for the last five years. EA has been charging at minimum 40USD for a roster swap of a 360 game. That's why it got the score it has. It's why there are only two reviews from major publications listed on Metacritic. It's why last year's version has a Metacritic average of 33.
Metroid is by all accounts really freaking good. You might not like how Dread looks but others think it's clean and stylish, Eurogamer went as far as to call it one of the best looking games on Switch. And (no offense to NL) I trust their reviews more than the ones written here. Also a short length is not necessarily a bad thing. A short but well paced game is better than one with unneeded padding.
@the_beaver I haven't seen a single Lost In Random review anywhere which I find concerning. Eurogamer posted their Eastward review this morning though and we're quite fond of it which is all I needed to see.

Also just popping in to verify that the game is absolutely fantastic. Would have no qualms purchasing a second time to have it on Switch.

@dimi She's not involved but she does still hold the rights to the Harry Potter IP which means she's still getting paid.

@Browny It's been five years now. That's much longer than the gap between the first and second games and long time for any game series.
Re: Review: Chicory: A Colorful Tale - A Masterful Marriage Of Mechanics, Themes And Visuals
@OorWullie Looked like it was Joy Con only. When I turned it on, the game immediately asked me to place the right Joy Con on a flat surface.
Motion on TV actually works really well. I found it to be very comfortable.
Re: Review: Chicory: A Colorful Tale - A Masterful Marriage Of Mechanics, Themes And Visuals

@Ventilator I think you might have responded to the wrong comment originally. Cause the first comment I posted in here was about FIFA.
For what it's worth, I'd also prefer to be an early adopter. Waiting a year or two to save a few bucks isn't worth it for something I want.
Re: Review: Metroid Dread - Quite Possibly The Best Metroid Game Ever Made

@Ventilator I'll be totally straight, I'm not actually sure what you're getting at here.
Re: Review: Metroid Dread - Quite Possibly The Best Metroid Game Ever Made
@jancotianno Did...did you...read the Fifa review? Because while it may look and play well, there are very valid reasons to give it a 2/10.
Re: Three Kingdom Hearts Games Are Coming To Switch, But They're All Cloud Versions

Re: Video: We've Actually Played Metroid Dread, Does It Meet Our Expectations?
@BloodNinja It wasn't a new game. It's literally a remake of a nearly thirty year old game.
Re: Video: We've Actually Played Metroid Dread, Does It Meet Our Expectations?
@BloodNinja They're calling attention to Fusion because it was the last original 2D game. And obviously Dread is pulling a lot from that game.
Pretty sure your copy of Samus Returns had a "new" sticker on it because it was an unopened copy.
Re: Video: We've Actually Played Metroid Dread, Does It Meet Our Expectations?
@BloodNinja They've said it's the first new game in fifteen years. No one is discounting Samus Returns but it's a remake, not an actual new game.
