@TheFrenchiestFry The PS4 version actually holds 30 pretty well. It does dip here and there very slightly but it's mostly good. X1 version did struggle a little more though.
I'm wondering if this is going to be similar to Aliens on Switch; another cross generation game that did surprisingly well because the devs were able to take advantage of more modern tools and techniques.
@Znake So you would ask that they hold the release back on all platforms because of an issue with Nintendo's validation process? Because that then messes up their relationship with those platforms and fans. They apologized, kept fans updated, and then offered a decent discount for a few days when they got it working. Pretty class way to manage it honestly.
@TheFrenchiestFry Reminiscent of SAO but about ten thousand times better than that. Unfortunate that in the time since the last .hack game, nothing in the genre has topped it.
@Znake And again, you are continuing to assume this was an active decision made by Dotemu to delay the DLC. This has nothing to do with inappropriate actions and not being respectful and everything to do with a technical or software issue. The DLC was intended to release on Switch at the same time as other platforms. Dotemu has an excellent relationship with Nintendo and its community, going as far as revealing games for Switch before other platforms. Also, please feel free to remove the condescending attitude.
@Znake Your determination to have Dotemu burned at the stake for this is admirable. A mistake was made, the DLC was delayed a little bit but now it's here. Dotemu has no evil scheme to extort people and no vendetta or bias against Switch owners.
@Giancarlothomaz There isn't any known, written contract or agreement that mainline Persona games are Sony exclusive. It just seems to be how Atlus wants to do things.
@XenoShaun I don't think EA actually DOES much in terms of mucking about with their indies line of games. It really does seem to be just funding and advertising. So if there were any EA games to feel okay about buying, it'd be these ones.
@Ear_wiG DOOM Eternal leans into platforming in the same way that the Prime games lean into shooting. Like Prime definitely has FPS gameplay, but it's pretty clearly not the main draw.
Metroid Prime feels like an FPS in the loosest sense of the term. Like if we were to make a scale of like "how much of an FPS are you," it'd hang out fairly close to the bottom, somewhere near Mirror's Edge.
@BloodNinja "It’s 100% a first person shooter, it uses the same perspective and you shoot things. It also has some slower paced exploration."
I think this is where you've got it backwards. It's 100% a slower paced exploration game that happens to have some first person shooting involved. And yeah it's all kind of semantic, but the Prime games are pretty far from (to use your examples) Crysis and DOOM.
@Entrr_username @HammerKirby @Abeedo Skyward Sword is running at 60fps but it's also visually the exact same game as the Wii version. Sonic is getting a whole bunch of visual upgrades. It's not laziness, it's just different priorities in design.
@Whitestrider Apologies. Sarcasm doesn't always translate well and I misinterpreted.
I think LRG still has rough estimates for the arrival dates. I know the NSCollectors subreddit has a weekly (or maybe monthly) post showing when all of the boutique indie publishers will be shipping and Scott Pilgrim special editions are listed on there.
@Whitestrider Clearly I was just using personal experience as an example of the world still being screwed up. But apparently you aren't interested in having an actual discussion.
@Whitestrider From personal experience (I work in a gallery and we frame many of our artists work in house) I have had several phone calls with suppliers to order wood, mat board, and even picture hooks and the rep has straight up said they have no idea when things may come back in stock. It really sucks but it's no one's fault per say.
@Whitestrider Many manufacturers are still at limited capacity due to Covid. There is only so much that can be done. You'll get your product eventually but the world is still pretty messed up right now.
@VIIIAxel Maybe they'll do a Limited Run Games style open preorder. Let everyone who wants the game have a month long period to get it. Should cover most of the people who might be interested.
@nessisonett Yeah the GM should've let you drink it and rolled for some kind of penalty. But honestly I also don't blame him for putting a stop to it right there. Certain behaviors just don't fly for some groups and that kind of chaotic stupid nonsense gets old real fast. For the GM and for other players.
@Socar She praised the visuals. How are you somehow twisting that as a bad thing? It sounds like you didn't actually read anything, not the reviews, not the pros, maybe just the cons, and latched on to something totally without context. Which would be your fault and not the reviewer.
@Socar Dude, reread the examples she gave. There are multiple instances where you just need to repeat the same option over and over until something changes. That's not good game design. How is the player supposed to figure out that nagging an NPC ad nauseum will eventually turn a positive result. La Mulana's puzzle are weird but there are actual hints and logic behind them.
She threw in a silly comment at the very end of a mostly glowing review. It wasn't insulting towards anyone who might be interested in the game and was just a joke about the age and history behind the game.
@Socar There is a difference between cryptic and, how the heck was I supposed to know that. And it seems like Detective Club crosses that line a few times. Just because "there is little you can do in them," doesn't mean they should be filled with inane crap to waste your time. That's really pretty simple.
Kate used on the most popular modern adventure games, and one with a long history on Nintendo systems, as a frame of reference to describe how the Detective Club works. This is a common thing people do. Comparing one thing to another. Thankfully, Kate is a good writer and still describes the gameplay well enough that people like me who haven't played AA can understand how Detective Club plays out.
As several people have mentioned, it's her goofing off and having some cheeky fun. People are allowed to do that sometimes and it's done rather frequently on this site for games that have very few flaws.
Honestly it sounds like you skimmed or barely read the review and are just trying to find something to moan about.
@Socar If you read the review then you would know that Kate wrote that it can be frustrating to progress at some points and not everything is explained well. Which is mentioned in her cons list. So I don't really see where you are finding any dishonesty.
@Gs69 Stick with it. Tri on the original Wii was my first game in the series and, like you, I bought into the hype real hard but hit a wall at the literal first boss. Like near controller smashing rage. But once the lightbulb goes off and you figure it out, the whole series is gratifying in a way that few other games are.
@Woodyshoe Totally rebuilt from the ground up with new challenges and stuff. Not just straight ports. Whether that's worth 40 is up to you, but some serious work was put into this.
@FullMetalWesker You are probably right that it's due to the size of the area. Loading large spaces like that is taxing.
The decision to halve the frame rate is really surprising though. It's the first time I can think of this gen that I've seen Nintendo opt to do that rather than just let the resolution tank. Even Link's Awakening they decided to keep the 60fps and crazy v-sync rather than just capping the frame rate at 30 and using the spare power budget to lift the resolution to 1080p. And God knows Yoshi could have used an optional Graphics mode to clean up the blurry visuals.
@rushiosan As an early adopter you got to enjoy an incredibly good game for almost two and a half years longer than the people just buying it now. Is the fifteen dollars saving worth that much?
@TheFrenchiestFry If what came over as ports and remakes was just down to "a dev thought it was a cool idea," we'd be seeing every intern programmer at Square working on a port of their favourite childhood SNES and PS1 game.
Fan demand ABSOLUTELY plays a part in what gets ported over. That's why we're getting Nocturne and SMTV, rather than a Raidou port and a new game in the Devil Summoner series.
@Muddy_4_Ever I think as long as pixel art is detailed and well animated I'll be happy. Games like Hyper Light Drifter, Resolutiion, or Children of Mortal are all fantastic examples of the style being done right in this generation.
If anything, it's RPG Maker games that we need to put on the pyre.
@Friendly Nothing really. People just seem to think that the limited time preorder period is because they are greedy, rather than them being a small company that cannot afford to make large batches of games to send out into the wild.
@Razer Thankfully there is a middle ground between blockbuster hit and abject failure. These cloud games seem to be falling somewhere into that space which is apparently good enough reason for the devs to get a cloud version up and running.
@Aerona 14 or 15 year old me got it pretty much right when it came out and even then I realized how cringey a lot of the dialogue was, but the game itself was pretty solid. The combat was good and the whole monster companion system I remember being really fleshed out and deep.
Honestly the game would not be nearly so reviled if you could turn off the voicework. Or at the very least switch to Japanese. Emil is just SOOOOOO whiney.
@Ralek85 Going off of Twitter and a handful of Redditors that got the game early, the first level and Zora's Domain are the most rough areas of the game but the rest of it is much more clean. I've also seen a few comments that the first level is running a little better than the demo was.

Amazed Art of Rally is above Spelunky, or really on any top list, after they bungled the release so badly.
Also the fact that you guys missed Dreamscaper this month is almost criminal.
