Following on from an update in April - revealing Akihito Tsukushi's long-running anime and manga series Made in Abyss would be coming to the Nintendo Switch this Fall, Spike Chunsoft has now locked in a date.
This game will be arriving on Switch, PlayStation 4 and Steam in both North America and Europe on 2nd September 2022. In addition to the digital release, there'll also be standard and collector's edition physical copies up for grabs. Pre-orders are now live in North America.
And here's a bit about the game, in case you've missed our previous coverage (warning - trailers contain strong violence):
Made in Abyss is a fantasy manga by Akihito Tsukushi, published on WEB Comic Gamma (Takeshobo) since 2012. The unique juxtaposition of its gentle art style with a dark, brutal storyline captured the hearts of many fans. A TV anime version aired in 2017 followed by a compilation movie in 2019 and a completely new theatrical movie in January 2020. A sequel to the anime series was also announced in January 2020, promising to provide fans with more exciting content in addition to the manga series.
Made in Abyss: Binary Star Falling into Darkness is an Action RPG in which players themselves descend into the world of the Abyss and grow through their experience in its depths. The game, supervised by original series author Akihito Tsukushi, recreates the world of the Abyss in 3D, including battles with creatures, collecting relics, and “The Curse of the Abyss”. Fans are sure to enjoy the dark fantasy that remains true to the unique flavor of the original work.
The game offers two game modes. “HELLO ABYSS” is a story mode in which players can relive the story of the anime while learning the basic system and how to progress in the game. In “DEEP IN ABYSS,” players can enjoy an original story of a new Cave Raider, who takes on the challenge of exploring the depths of the Abyss. Many characters from Made in Abyss appear, and event scenes are fully-voiced by the cast of the anime.

I hope this game does well. Watched the anime about a month ago, it was amazing!
I just hope they can translate it well into game form, and TBH, it could if done right. But its a anime game, so my hopes are not high.
This, Berserk and Attack on Titan are the unholy trifecta for me of anime that I loathed despite knowing that they’re probably good.
@nessisonett I adored this and Berserk. I'm not crazy about AoT, but I think a lot of that is the fanbase praising it as the second coming.
Pretty good time to release. Aside from Splatoon, September's still pretty empty at this stage. Planning to pick up a standard physical copy.
@nessisonett the anime berserk have a bad ending because for some reason they decided to not include the real end and omitting some scenes that will have made more sense from the manga golden age arc. Berserk manga have, imo, the best quality in writing and art. It’s a shame Berserk could not be finished because of the premature death of kentaro miura.
Cool, may check it out sometime.
@Liam_Doolan The headline and opening paragraph of this article makes it sound like the manga and anime will come to Switch, not a game.
"Anime And Manga Series 'Made In Abyss' Locks In September Release For Switch"
"Following on from an update in April - revealing Akihito Tsukushi's long-running anime and manga series Made in Abyss would be coming to the Nintendo Switch this Fall, Spike Chunsoft has now locked in a date."
Is it a manga/anime or a game? A bit confusing.
Loved the anime with its deceptive cuteness combined with gore. The english dub sounds horrid and makes this sound like a kiddie show when it really isn’t.
@Quarth What it’s saying is that the anime that is also a manga series, is getting a game on the switch.
The game is the same name of the series, so everyone knows it’s the game.
Absolutely amazing show that had such an emotional ending to its first season that I was left crying.
@Snatcher Yeah, in the second paragraph of the article it mentions it being a game, but both the headline and the first paragraph is saying that the manga and the anime series will be coming to Switch. I've never heard of this series and first thought when reading the headline that they were releasing the manga and the anime on the Switch. Clicking the article and scrolling down a bit on the page revealed it was a game. I just think it should be clearer in the headline that it is a game.
"The game is the same name of the series, so everyone knows it’s the game."
Sorry, but I didn't know that.
@Quarth It’s fine, in all fairness they could have put the other name the game has, under the main name, probably didn’t because it’s too long.
But you got confused by it, and just gave a suggestion for other who might have gotten confused like you, which you weren’t really wrong about, it can be confusing.
@Snatcher Yeah, we'll see if Liam, the article writer, responds.
Came to this page intrigued and optimistic...
...leaving shuddering at the voice work.
@gcunit Yeah, I'm not sure why JRPG US dubs haven't really improved since the early 2000s. Even titans of the genre have wooden and unconvincing acting, like FFXV, though that's a lot better than this game's acting. Thank god for Japanese language support.
Still salty that this gets a Western release yet The Quintessential Quintuplets visual novel doesn't even receive English subtitles because then I could at least import it.
It looks interesting but the blonde girl's voice is so annoying, it feels like my eardrums are being worked on with a cheese grater.
I look forward to the game!
Absolutely love the anime! This game looks terrible tho. The animations, the graphics, the voice acting.
I enjoyed the anime because of its deceiving attractiveness mixed with gore. The English dub is terrible, making this sound like a kiddie program when it isn't.
