@sixrings "...pro would upgrade these visuals much more than a patch."
A Pro would also cost several hundred dollars and would require devs to have to build a game over potentially four different Switch power profiles. A patch is free for console owners and clearly is able to deliver an incredible amount of improvement
@Paraka Don't we already complain too much about games getting physical versions late? Now we're gonna complain that they released on time next to the digital version?
@Crono1973 Games should be finished at launch no disagreement there. But NL is dropping the ball on what seemed like a fairly high profile indie that's dropping during a pretty slow time of year. Especially considering this is a Nintendo focused site.
@The_Pixel_King Did Fabraz reach out to reviewers? I didn't know that. In that case there should at least be a mention of it.
@westman98 Other current gen games like DOOM, Wolf 2/Youngblood, Divinity 2, or Vampyr come in right above or below the 50% mark compared to the other consoles. So there is some precedence for getting file sizes down.
Either way I don't think we're gonna have to buy large format card of this ever does come to Switch.
@westman98 But the Switch version won't be anywhere near the size of the Xbox version. Going by the sizes of other current gen Switch games we'd be looking at something in the 40GB range.
This is hardly the first time Nintendo has refunded a digital game. NintendoSwitch subreddit is full of threads of people saying they got a digital game refunded, complete with screenshots.
Heck, my dad got a refund on the 3DS EShop a couple years ago after my younger brother stole his credit card to buy a Pokemon Ranger game.
@YANDMAN Ahh you are correct. I forgot about the OG WiiU release. Good call. As for the ten companies who specialize in limited releases of indie games, none of them have touched Shin'ens other two Switch releases so I'm pretty comfortable in buying the digital and not waiting for a theoretical physical game.
And to throw my hat into the "voxel vs 3d pixel" argument, voxel is literally the term for 3d pixel.
@CTmatic The game wasn't really hammered back when it first released though. It's sitting at a 79 on PS4 Metacritic which is really a solid score. There were one or two very high profile negative reviews, namely IGNs that is basically considered a meme at this point, but for the most part the game was very well regarded on release.
@VenomousAlbino @graysoncharles @Xaessya Solrock and Karp are fine. Karp especially as he's fairly fast, actually attacks, and has a Focus Sash for not dying. Helping Hand Eevee and Wobuffett can go die in a fire.
To my US based friends, I don't know if it is still applicable, but Target had a pre-order for Indivisible priced at 15 dollars yesterday. The game is supposed to be 40 when it releases. Reviews for other platforms have been really good so if it's still around it might be well worth hopping on to.
@Burning_Bacon I was super negative to most everything for a long time. Visuals, Dexit, Drednaw being another Water/Rock type...It wasn't until the datamine that I flipped and started being excited. I still have issues with the visuals and overly samey structure but I am still happy to play it.
I will be ready to lead the riot if Pokemon Spear releases next year as a 60 dollar game though.
@Yorumi VGC rules change on a per tournament basis. The 2019 World Championship allowed anything not Mythical. The only rule pertaining to the Bank was that the Pokemon had to be born or bred in Alola. So while you couldn't use the Tyranitar you've had since gen 2, you could bring it into the game, breed it, and use its son.
@Kalmaro I feel like there was a lot of pre-launch hysteria about how awful the games were going to be. And that included negatives from a gameplay perspective. Much more negativity than one would expect from a lack of effort. You would have thought that GameFreak killed all of our babies by the way some people on this site were reacting. It's weird, I definitely expect more and I also think that 60 bucks is a lot given that the leap was much smaller than it should have been, but I'm also really enjoying it. Darn you Pokemon.
@Snaplocket Definitely strong. This generation is gonna be a good one competitively.
@Kalmaro I'm speaking from a gameplay standpoint. This is my opinion from about ten hours in game, a lot of time on the SWSH Leaks Reddit pre launch, and a bunch of time in the last two days on Serebii. Almost every single new Mom has a viable stat spread/interesting ability/strong movepool. Even the Raticate equivalent has some potential in competitive play. And the designs themselves are some of the best we've ever gotten.
I agree that the game is lacking ambition and technically weak. This could have been so much more than it ended up being. I also agree that GameFreaks PR for this game was pretty horrible. But underneath all that is still a strong game.
@Kalmaro The upgrades are all gameplay based. The reduction in Pokemon gave us the most consistently well balanced and designed generation in over a decade.
Didn't realize the physical version was out so soon. Went to check it on BestBuy but it's ten bucks more than the PS4 version despite being less than 2GB. Guess I will be waiting for a sale.
@frabbit I think Casey is the most knowledgeable Pokemon player in the games journalism industry. While I think the NUMBER she attached was a little high (maybe an 8.5 would be more appropriate based on what we've seen), the actual text of her review is pretty excellent and I trust it.
It's unfortunate that we didn't get a BoTW style revamp of the series, but SwSh still look like very good classic Pokemon games.
@Ooccoo_Jr Casey is one of the most knowledgeable Pokemon fans out there. While I do acknowledge some of the issues that Sword and Shield has, if she tells me the game is good then I believe it is good.
@sixrings It could be that this scored better than Mario/Sonic because, even with its short length, it is a better game? Also in a dollars per hour equation this is still cheaper than most movie theatre trips.
@RupeeClock While I think GF should have been more upfront, I think it is also absolutely insane that this kind of culling hadn't happened sooner. Thankfully the only competitive moves removed were Hidden Power and Pursuit, and honestly I think HP should have been removed ages ago.
One the plus side, the datamine also showed us an additional 100+ mons more than we thought there would be.
@RupeeClock Do you have a source for this information? I have been all over the Sword and Shield leak Reddit page and have seen nothing about "hundreds," of moves being cut.
@JaxonH I tried messaging on their Facebook post with the announcement a little while ago. Asked why they are going SRG instead of self publishing through their Rising Star label. Hopefully some answers turn up.
@retro_player_22 Oh nice maybe it's been patched then. I remember at launch for both systems there were a ton of complaints about input lag and sound quality.
@retro_player_22 The problem with the Genesis Classic Collection is that the emulation is absolute garbage. I'd rather pay more money and have it work is intended.

@BulbasaurusRex Except these are dope crayon drawings.
Also, Defend Your Castle is an awful example of a cute and minimalist style. It's just bland and boring.

@Panopticon The PS4 version needs more work before it's ready. That's why it's launch is later and they are asking for additional funds.
