Happy for those who haven’t played it yet, but honestly I’m hoping for a bit more from Nintendo. It feels like new releases have slowed to a trickle and while I understand COVID is impacting things, surely they had a pipeline of games long in place. I would’ve much preferred seeing a Pikmin 4 announcement alongside this, even if the release date is TBD or uncertain.

@Yorumi It would certainly be nice to see more original content, wouldn’t it?

I don’t know why all the Platinum non-news lately, but we don’t need a Nintendo Life article every time Platinum says something. None of this is news.

Let us know when it’s done, otherwise I don’t need a story every few weeks about how it’s “still progressing.”

@BAN I wholeheartedly agree, and thank you for providing such an excellent example of why basic customization options (like difficulty) are always a good thing.

Sadly, some people lack the imagination to think of people like your brother whom would benefit from these features! Hopefully that changes!

Actually, I take this note as surprisingly positive. They said this year’s releases aren’t impacted, which is great!

I think this is less a statement on Nintendo individually and more typical of Japanese companies in general. Most Japanese companies — even the massive multinationals — have a relatively flat pay curve; few if any Japanese executives make the tens or even hundreds of millions of dollars per year you see in US companies.

This game had a lot of missed potential IMHO. The search/discovery tools didn’t make it easier to find quality courses and they didn’t add any course styles despite the label. I loved SMM1 but will think long and hard before buying the next one.

I don’t see how this fixes negative review bombing. Sure, it slows it down very slightly in some ways, but that’s it.

Why did they even bother hosting a video? This should’ve just been a press release on their website. What a waste of everyone’s time.

I would kill for another Rayman game. Seriously some of the best platforming I’ve ever seen.

If it doesn’t spread their attention or resources too thin, they should of course continue to invest in smartphone games. Look how many billion dollar companies have been created through various app crazes — it’d be business malpractice not to go after a slice of that market.

Sometimes I just want to play some games and forget about politics and culture wars...

That means no more discounts on e-shop purchases unless it’s an official Nintendo sale. I expect physical sales to go up as a result of this, given that the competition will remain for physical games.

Looks exciting — I’m hoping the writing makes for a fun show and is on the quality level of Rick & Morty, Futurama, Aqua Teen, etc. If so, they’ll have a real winner here.

@GrandScribe It was definitely a very different game from the Zeldas of today! I didn’t know until recently that the original came with a map and was designed to be played with it. Knowing that, I wish I’d had it for my first play through! Spent hours getting lost and trying to remember where everything was.

Hopefully we’ll see a real one soon. Sure, I have a huge backlog of games already, but there’s something to be said for having something to get excited about, especially in this day and age.

I love Star Wars, but not microtransactions and shady businesses. Hard pass, EA.

Didn’t plan on buying anything from EA anyway, but that list just reaffirms that decision. EA can go pound sand — they’ll never get any money from me.

That’s great but hope we can also get news of other games soon too! I gotta know whether these Mario rumors are true!

I stopped buying EA games back during the many broken promises of Wii U. Honestly haven’t missed them one bit — they’ve only gotten worse with their shady business tactics. Won’t be getting any of my money.

Glad I picked some up back during the doom and gloom of the Wii U days. Just wish I’d bought more

Never understood the draw of Fortnite, but I always got bored quickly with FPS games. To each their own — looks like a fun theme and hope people enjoy it!

Hard pass for me. They lied to their own supporters. And sure, if Wii U was no longer feasible then at least carry it over to Switch. Instead they’re taking a bag of money from Sony for a timed exclusive and laughing in everyone’s face. Plenty of other games out there to spend my money on — ones that don’t rip off their own fans.

Same thing I’ve done every day for the last 2 months: slowly explore the delicious world of BOTW. In no hurry to finish that game — brilliant piece of work.

People laughed when some on this site predicted 75m+ lifetime sales. Now that’s looking like it’ll be a low estimate.

Great work, Nintendo! You’ve proven once again you’re the king of gaming.

Sad sight to see. Regardless of how you feel about the cause of the protests, now of all times we need games and fun in our lives. Hoping they’ll be back up and running soon.

@Coach_A Well, I won’t argue semantics, but I’m just hoping we get more than just a port with very minor updates and little visual improvement (some companies call those remasters, some don’t). I’m never one to obsess over pixels and frame rates, but if they’re going to bring Wii-era games to Switch, I want it to look good on a modern TV.

If this is a straight port, I’ll pass, but if we’re talking full on remake a la Wind Waker HD, I’m in on day one.

I love Directs for the excitement and sheer entertainment, so I'll be sad not to see them, but hopefully they'll return soon. And at the end of the day, the games are still great.

I think this will be a pass for me. I couldn’t get into the original game when I played the Wii U demo. With so many issues left unaddressed, I think I’ll spend my coin elsewhere.

I find these rumors about “ready to go” games a bit hard to believe in this day and age. I’m set on games, but many people are craving them while they sit at home, so any games that are “ready to go” I imagine would be announced and quickly launched. They may be far along, but there’s something holding them back if they exist at all.

I’ve been playing Civilization games since Civ 3 — easily one of the best gaming franchises. That said, it’s the only game I don’t play on my Switch — I prefer having a mouse and keyboard, but thankfully it’s available and cheap on Mac and PC.

I also don’t know how anyone could possibly play all of this DLC.

@Dreamcast2Turbo I have the “base” original Civ 6 and have played easily 150 hours and could easily play more. It’s definitely a complete game even without the DLC. I’m like you and detest half-baked games that abuse DLC but this isn’t one of them

Due to a number of factors, I wouldn’t be surprised if this becomes an 8+ year console. Those factors include:

• Great sales of hardware
• Great sales of software
• COVID slowing down the development cycle
• The console’s hybrid nature
• A short Wii U cycle that preceded the Switch

Of course, we’ll see more variations along the way, just like we now have the Lite.

Very happy for the AC fans out there. I never quite understood the games myself. I played New Leaf for a couple hours then got confused about what I should be doing — the only way I could find to earn bells was catch bugs... got really boring. What was I doing wrong?

That’s cool. I’m honestly more excited for the reveal than the actual games right now — I have a crazy backlog of games to finish, not to mention Xenoblade coming out soon, plus Luigi’s Mansion 3, which I haven’t picked up yet. So yeah, even if there’s a delay, not a big issue.

I won’t be buying them, but happy for anyone who does.

I hope the official remaster is a better upgrade than this. I played and loved Mario 64, but those polygonal graphics have not aged well. Time for an engine overhaul.

That’s cool. I don’t mind waiting a bit of time while they figure out their schedule given the new paradigm.

That said, it would be lovely to hear some kind of update soon. Even if it isn’t grand, I don’t think I’m alone in looking for something fun to look forward to.

I’ve yet to wrap my head around Animal Crossing, but fun to see people with such cute ideas enjoying the platform!

One of my least fulfilling purchases. I bought it to play against friends with a Switch, but it didn’t justify the price. I owned the Wii U version so very little marginal benefit for me. Was really hoping for some DLC.

I’m surprised no new game styles were announced. The wording/phrasing has always implied more were on the way.

Totally — very good point. I'm curious how much things will evolve from BOTW, which changed so many elements and introduced a ton of new concepts. Either way it'll be interesting to see!

@Ralizah I don’t dispute most people associate it with Switch. Just that Nintendo usually does one major Zelda per console, and BOTW was Wii U’s (it was originally designed for that platform, and was the only “new” Zelda it got). It’d be uncharacteristic of Nintendo to not give Switch another Zelda (much like they did Skyward Sword for Wii even though it already had TP, which was also on GCN)
