Re: UK Newspaper Comes Under Fire For Hinting That Video Games Are "The Next Global Pandemic"

Hyrule

"I was shocked, and indignant, that there was something out there, unregulated and freely available to our kids, which was considered highly dangerous but nobody was doing anything about it. It was like someone was coming into my son’s bedroom at night and injecting him with an addictive drug."

Translates to:

In between episodes of Love Island and Grand Designs, I looked up from behind my oversized wine glass to check if my offspring was still alive. He was suitably entertained with a videogame so I didn't bother to engage as a parent and actually converse with him. Then came the credit card bill and a £1000 charge for vbucks. What the heck are vbucks? I was incensed I now actually had to get off my backside and do some parenting and googling. I was very upset and looked for someone to blame for my own failings. Videogames seemed like the easy target. So I wrote an unresearched and educated piece for a propaganda outlet masquerading as a legitimate newspaper, to stick it to the lefties. Yay me. Back to Love Island.

Re: Rumour: Nintendo To Reveal New Switch Model With Samsung OLED Display And 4K Support

Hyrule

@Gio0207 They do indeed, more so for mobile devices/smartphones (AMOLED) as they are the current market leader. LG obviously make the majority of the larger panel OLED screens. For example, Samsung's latest S21 phone has a 6.2" 120hz OLED screen with 421 ppi. So if this rumour is even remotely true, a 7" Samsung AMOLED screen say 90 - 120hz with 400+ ppi will be amazing on this rumoured switch revision.

Re: Anniversary: Nintendo Switch Launched Four Years Ago Today

Hyrule

Four years, and four Switches later (OG switch, Pikachu let's go edition, MH edition & switch Lite), I split my time between the backlog of Switch games and PC gaming. Just finished Age of Calamity and debating whether to start Animal Crossing, Hollow Knight of Xenoblade Chronicles DE.

Re: Soapbox: The Nintendo Switch Was My Companion As I Travelled The World

Hyrule

@UltimateOtaku91
I must be the exception to that rule. I used to do over an hour rush hour commute within London for work pre-pandemic, and my switch was out on every journey from the train to the tube. Had many a interested parties asking questions, and saw maybe at least a dozen people over a year playing with their Switch on the commute. Headphones on, tune out, made the commute more bearable

Re: Review: Mortal Kombat 11 - A Satisfying Dose Of Comic Hyper-Violence Despite Loot Balance Issues

Hyrule

Didnt fancy waiting until May 10th so I ordered it from Amazon US. Arrived in the UK 2 days later. Pretty enjoyable so far. I play it mostly on the daily london commute and the PS4 version at home. Only annoying thing so far is the game constantly asking for an internet connection. Defeats the purpose of portable play. Even during the tutorial it pops up trying to connect. Hopefully they fix this in a future patch.

Re: Smash Ultimate Exceeds 12 Million Worldwide Sales, Top Ten Best-Selling Switch Games Revealed

Hyrule

That's 12 million copies in 23 days up until the 31st of December.
If we count sales for January when they are announced, it's not that much of a stretch to say nearly half the Switch user base has bought Smash Bros.
And Pokemon selling 10 million units about one and half months, considering the hate leveled at that game, shows the strategy worked. Expecting colossal Pokemon 2019 sales.
Great news all around.

Re: UK Charts: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Overtakes Splatoon 2 Lifetime Sales In UK

Hyrule

@Equinox LOL a lost cause...really. Whilst certainly not as strong as germany or france, Nintendo is doing well in the UK mate, let's not get it twisted.
Don't let facts and figures get in your way or the definition of a lost cause. Over 1.4 million consoles sold in less than two years, Smash Bros Ultimate fastest-selling Switch game in the UK and been at the top of Amazon videogames charts for weeks, Mario Odyssey & Mario kart 8 DX with over half a million sales and still holding strong in the charts, yet a lost cause. Get real.

Re: Nintendo Still Expects To Hit 100 Million Switch Software Sales This Financial Year

Hyrule

Not that different to what they mentioned at the last sales briefing. Considering Smash Bros sold over 5 million copies worldwide in 3 days, and as of September 2018, they were at 40-45% of their 100 million target, I think it's entirely within reach to sell another 40-50 million units of software by the end of March 2019, and hit or surpass that 100 million target. Great to hear the continuous train of sales records being broken and Nintendo on their way to achieving their sales goals for this financial year.

Re: Nintendo Switch Becomes The Fastest-Selling Console Of This Generation In The US

Hyrule

@Scottwood101 Yup saw one the other night advertising the game and bundle, and also seen a few here and there across various channels. I went to my nearest Smyths the other day to pick up Pokemon Let's Go Eevee for a christmas present (cheapest around), and 3 smash bundles were purchased while I was queuing. Plus some crazy lady with 3 copies of Just Dance 2019 lol.

Re: Japanese Charts: Smash Bros. Ultimate Has Already Outsold Pokémon And Zelda: Breath Of The Wild

Hyrule

@johnvboy That's the one that gets me. The switch has no games. It's like unless you are living in a cave with no electricity, on what planet does it not have games. Not every game maybe to everyone's liking but there is enough selection for everyone. But alas, people always have something to complain about

I bought 3 limited editions of Smash, one for me, two for my nephews. My youngest neph unlocked all characters in about 30 hours, he couldn't put the Switch down

Re: Random: Police Respond To Noise Complaint And End Up Playing Smash Bros. Ultimate

Hyrule

@goggles789 Not sure what planet you are living on, by stating "Most "bad" law enforcement officials get disciplined internally". More often than not, very little if anything is done to discipline their own and covering up or diminishing the actions of bad law enforcement is prevalent.
Anyway as stated by others, it's nice this story ended positively. There are countless examples of deadly encounters with the police, especially for ethnic minorities, after having them be called on people, for doing every day activities.

Re: UK Charts: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Becomes The Fastest-Selling Smash Game Of All Time

Hyrule

@westman98 Yeah just read that, Famitsu preliminary figures clock it in at 1.3million copies in Japan alone. Hopefully we will see the corresponding Switch hardware boost to go along with it.
But crikey, that pretty much much 1.45 million if count the UK sales and physical only. The numbers must be well of 1.5million if you add in digital sales and that's two countries reporting....Great news

Re: Analysts Believe Nintendo Will Fall Short Of Its Target To Ship 38 Million Switch By March 2019

Hyrule

With the hardware boost the Switch has seen just with the release of Pokemon Let's Go and Smash not even out yet, I think it's premature to say the wont hit their sales target of 20million units for the financial year 2018. Considering they do 60% of their business between November and January, and only need to shift 15 million units by end of April 2019, its doable especially with the two aforementioned heavy hitters. As for Pachter, his credentials or lack thereof, speak for themselves.
