Re: Review: Plenty of Fishies (Wii U eShop)

@TylerTreese I wouldn't mind if it was occasional, but it is absolutely unrelenting. I know there's going to be a patch, but this trend in gaming — products being released half-baked and then getting put back in the oven a couple minutes at a time — needs to stop.

Re: Iwata Saw Miyamoto As A Rival When He First Started Out

Iwata talked about this rivalry in a few of his GDC keynotes; it actually helped form some of his most solid philosophies on game development at Nintendo. Iwata had quite the chip on his shoulder when he was younger, and thought his genius programming would guarantee his software higher sales than that of Miyamoto. He goes on to describe the "painful lesson" of Miyamoto's software outselling his by an enormous margin, and how it helped him identify that technology alone is not enough to make a good game.

Totally worth checking out, especially to see Iwata laughing. It's infectious.

Re: Professional Super Smash Bros. Melee Player Talks Smash 4

@Turbo857 Tier lists take a long time to compile, so that's more a credit to the number of characters in the game than its balance.

As for the casual vs. pro garbage, both sides have their share of infantile whiners who are insecure about the way they play the game and feel the need to get defensive every time it comes up in conversation. Play what you like, how you like it, with no reservations. Stop telling others how best to enjoy their entertainment.

@BearClaus I would agree, except I believe that developers who truly enjoy making games always try to bring something of their own to the table. This doesn't guarantee their game will be a masterpiece, but they try nevertheless. With this recent influx of shovelware, I feel there's absolutely no effort involved at all. These are, at best, C-grade homework assignments from a beginner's class in game design.

I firmly believe that the worst game driven by passion will always be more interesting than the best cynical cash-in. At least then you're given the opportunity to wonder what motivated the creation. Here, I know pretty much exactly what motivated it — the need for attention and the chance to make a quick buck off of someone else's idea.

Re: Talking Point: The amiibo Range Grows, Yet Key Questions Remain

HylianJowi

This really articulates every single concern I've had about amiibo since day one. I like to remain cautiously optimistic, but I feel like we're seeing a Wii U 2.0 here; too many questions and not enough answers. As a hardcore fan, I'm sure I'll get the answers — but there's no way casual fans are going to dedicate themselves enough to finding such information. :c

Re: Bravely Second Shows Off New City and Job Outfits

While I think the first one was a deeply flawed experience, it showed enough potential — and I got enough enjoyment out of it — to more than warrant continued interest in the series. I'm looking forward to seeing how they update the experience in this game.
