Re: Nintendo Lifts The Lid On Its Plans For E3 2014

@Caryslan I wholeheartedly agree. I really wish people wouldn't be so narrow-minded when looking at the game market; I own Nintendo and PlayStation products and love them both. I'm not sure why people make owning consoles a mutually exclusive proposition — play what games you like, no matter what company's box they're on. Games are games.

Re: Satoru Iwata Speaks Of The Need To "Redefine" Nintendo's Position In The Entertainment Industry

HylianJowi

I really don't know what to say other than "ugh." I'm not a fan of the direction Iwata's taken Nintendo in, and this fixation on "Quality of Life" turns my stomach. I'm well aware Nintendo is a company and doesn't owe me a damn thing, but these statements carry a strong implication that their focus will be stretched well beyond video games — an area they need some help in at the moment.

Iwata, I just want to see some more Nintendo games. :/

Re: Nintendo Provides Some Context to 2013's Tomodachi Life Same-Sex Marriage Controversy

The saddest thing about all this is that people are making huge, sweeping assumptions about gay people. We don't "choose" to be gay. We don't want to "push our agenda" on other people. We don't intrinsically hate anyone of faith. Even as you all declare yourselves free of judgment and trying to do the right thing, you refuse to look at basic facts that would otherwise help you live peaceful lives among people of all sexualities. Nobody has ever been hurt by the simple idea of two women kissing or two men standing at the altar. People — like me — have been hurt by the religious declaring my love for my fiancee an "abomination" and on par with bestiality.

@FOREST_RANGER I almost feel the same way. I'm here because I love Nintendo games, and being a writer here has shown me that this fan community has the nicest, most receptive Ninty geeks in all the Internet. I just wish issues like this weren't such a dealbreaker for some people — I want to be noted for my Zelda fanaticism, not for the fact that I happen to have a male fiancee. His gender is irrelevant and so too is the animosity coming from both sides of the argument — we're here to bask in the glory of Nintendo, man.

Re: Nintendo Provides Some Context to 2013's Tomodachi Life Same-Sex Marriage Controversy

@Pichubby That's absolutely not true. Please stop accusing us of some sort of conspiracy to push our agenda on the rest of the world. You are ABSOLUTELY entitled to your religious beliefs, and I will defend those rights until my dying day. But I will also fight for my own right to marry the man I love, even if your scripture says something else. There's no reason these ideologies can't coexist peacefully if we just agree to disagree and leave each other alone — you're not going to change my mind and I'm not going to change yours.

@Joshers744 I'm very sorry if my opinion offended you, but as a writer — particularly as a writer about the interactive entertainment business and all it encompasses — I feel it is my duty to express my opinions about things like this. It's a shame we don't share the same one, and you are absolutely 100% entitled to your beliefs, but this is a moral issue I will stand my ground on.

Re: Nintendo Provides Some Context to 2013's Tomodachi Life Same-Sex Marriage Controversy

HylianJowi

I've been pretty clear about my stance on this since yesterday: I won't be supporting this game. I'm not as angry about it as I was before, since Nintendo's explanation of the "bug" makes a lot more sense. However, that still doesn't change the fact that I'm engaged to a man in real life and I'd like to be able to see the same sort of progressive action in a game from my favorite developer. Ah well.

Re: Tomodachi Collection: New Life Tests Western Waters with Survey

HylianJowi

@Technosphile I totally believe that it has a chance with the widening acceptance of same-sex marriage in both the states and Europe. Nintendo might upset people if they include it, but there's going to be a huge backlash if they exclude it. I hope they stand on the right side of history with this one.

Re: Animal Crossing Creator Discusses How Mobile Apps Could Affect Your ''Second Home''

HylianJowi

As a supplement to the experience, this could be useful. As for microtransactions, I think it's obvious why they wouldn't be looked upon favorably. In fact, I think it's the fact that all content (including add-on content) in Animal Crossing COMES with the price of admission that serves as a main reason why people are willing to drop $35-40 on it. It's an outstanding value, a title with longevity aplenty.

Re: Ronimo Games: PS4 And Xbox One Are More Of The Same, But Wii U Is "Something New"

HylianJowi

To be honest, I strike a balance between the two positions on this one. My opinion is that Nintendo's hardware (both console and portable, especially in the last two generations) has offered developers many unique ways to take advantage of the features in its platforms. I love Nintendo games, always have and always will. At the same time, they are well behind on crucial online features and simply will not offer some fascinating third party content I can play on other systems. If I hadn't purchased a PS3, I'd never be able to play Ni no Kuni, Catherine, the Persona series... So many great games. I think it's sad that we limit ourselves to supporting one console when each one does bring something relatively different--both interface and game selection--to the table.

Re: Kiki's Koi Koi Is Coming To The Wii U eShop

HylianJowi

@Boxmonkey Somehow I just see this as succumbing to the Internet sensationalism surrounding these truly unimportant "console wars," but to each their own. I love both Nintendo and Sony and see no reason to drop one in favor of the other.

Re: Kiki's Koi Koi Is Coming To The Wii U eShop

HylianJowi

@Boxmonkey I find it pretty disheartening that the existence of an indie game would be your catalyst for a full indictment of Nintendo's game selection. I understand--news has been slow--but why must you "move on" to Sony? Do you have to offer your exclusivity to one hardware manufacturer?
