In the latest volume of Nintendo's 'Ask the Developer' series, an official world map for Splatoon 3 was revealed.
Inklings and Octolings have always wondered about how the world of Splatoon fits together, so this map should help. You can see all sorts of landmarks such as Splatsville, Inkopolis bay, Salmonid swim zones and more! Have a look below:
Splatoon 3 game director Shintaro Sato explains how this map was created to provide a sense of distance between the three cities (Inkopolis Plaza, Inkopolis Square and Splatsville). Fellow director, Seita Inoue, went into a bit more detail about the geography of the map:
"As you can see, Inkopolis Plaza in the first title and Inkopolis Square in the second title are both located in the heart of the city, and they are only about as far apart as Shibuya Station and Harajuku Station on the train in Tokyo. In terms of distance, it is about 1.2 kilometers (approx. 0.75 miles). However, we were discussing how we wanted Splatsville to be set in a region far away from the locations in the previous two titles and with a completely different climate. We prepared a map like this so that we could develop the game with an understanding of the geographical distances."
So, there you go - we've finally got an idea about how the world of Splatoon fits together. What do you think of this map? Notice anything else? Leave a comment below.

This is awesome! I am really curious about what "The last resort" means, I am guessing it will be relevant to the story
This is really neat!
That’s a long way to travel to play the maps set back in inkopolis.
I wonder if it will be like the map on cult of the lamb where you just instant travel between the locations on the world map. Looks quite expansive.
The important part here is that we know where Agent 4 lives.
@strollin_stu Unlike “Inkopolis.”
No wonder Agent 4 didn't know the Squid Sisters. They live way out in the boondocks!
It was kinda obvious from the Tokyo Tower-looking structure in the first game, but this world map proves that these games are set in the Kanto region of Japan It must have been one heck of an apocalyptic war for the Eifel Tower to land upside down in the Splatlands!
@LXP8 I wonder where Inkopolis/game maps from the first game are set in relation to Splatoon 3's locations.
An yeah, this does look like Kanto region of Japan, great observation!
It kind of looks like the Adriatic Sea. It's funny how the Deep Sea Metro is just in the middle of the ocean, not connecting anything to anything else. Maybe it was submerged in some tectonic event and no longer serves any purpose.
@Synecdoche @strollin_stu I think the problem is that Splatsville sounds like a small town, and Inkopolis a big city, yet Splatsville is like 10 times larger(?) It's kind of weird.
If Nintendo makes an open world Splatoon, I will cry tears of joy.
@GX_64 "Cut my calamari into pieces"
@Gryffin And this is why every franchise goes open world.
@LXP8 Personally, I feel like it looks like France, and Italy. That would explain the Effie tower. Additionally, it shows how the flooding really effected it.
@Pursuit I studied both after reading your comment and while I agree that it looks extremely similar to France/Italy, the shape and size of the land mases look more similar to Kanto to me. I think the Eiffel Tower being upside-down means it was thrown over to Japan when the apocalypse took place lol
