We've got just a little over a month to go until Splatoon 3 makes a splat on the Switch, and after a little bit of concern from fans, Nintendo has announced a Splatoon 3-themed Nintendo Direct.
Kicking off on 10th August 10th at 6am PDT / 9am EDT / 2pm BST / 3pm CET, we're expecting around 30 minutes of colourful Splatoon 3 goodness.
Some have been commenting online about the lack of new and unique features for the third entry in this hugely popular shooter, and this is hopefully the spot that Nintendo will show off what Splatoon 3 has on offer for long-term fans and potential newcomers.
We've already been drip-fed lots of little pieces of info on the upcoming game, including a few new stages, new and returning weapons, customisable eyebrows and hairstyles, music, and more. Many also think that Nintendo has hinted that apartments might be coming to the game, so your inklings and squid kids can have a little home of their own!
But there are a few things we haven't heard anything about yet. When will the Global Testfire be? Will there be DLC like the Octo Expansion? And what amiibo will we be getting? And last week, both Nintendo's German and Dutch Twitter accounts potentially teased that "new modes" would be coming to the game.
We'll soon find out! In the meantime, why not let us know what you want to see by voting in the polls below and leaving a comment to share your excitement about the game (and this Direct)!

Pearl, we need more Pearl!
I am extremely excited for this game to release. I think the Direct will help with a lots of worries that people have been sharing, myself included. I would like to see a testfire date, some new modes, and a few more story mode details
Salmon run. Salmon run.
Even if it is just more of the same, if Splatoon 3 is a refinement of everything that came before that alone constitutes grounds for a sequel.
Plus it gives a good chance for newcomers to enter the Splatoon environment at the same entry for the professionals leveling the playing field.
I couldn't care less if it's not a full Direct featuring first-party games. Splatoon has its fans, but I'm not one of them, and I still think Nintendo's 4th quarter offerings look mighty thin right now.
Honestly I doubt I'll even be convinced to even consider this game but it all boils down to the game feeling less like an expansion advertised as a sequel and more like an actual sequel.
Considering even 2 felt this way to some people I don't expect that trend to end soon.
Information
I'll probably be very satisfied with whatever's shown off in the Direct (so long as it isn't just the same information we've seen on the Twitter accounts for the past few months) but there's only really one thing I desperately want to see: brand new main weapons. I think the Bow is wonderful, but as the only brand new main weapon we've seen so far, I'm pining for a bit more variety, you know? If we could get just one or two more weapons revealed, I'd be more than grand. Oh, and new modes and a Testfire are also high up on my wants
@Rika_Yoshitake PREACH.
What do you want to see from the Splatoon 3 Direct? Yes. All of the above.
Just don’t whiff this game please Nintendo.
Oh! And I really want a multiplayer family pass. Some way to buy multiple copies that is discounted in some meaningful way.
I'm excited! I can't wait to see the direct. Then the media who tried to stir up trouble where is none, will go back into their cave to figure out what false narrative they need to make up next.
Another co-op mode that isn’t salmon run. That’s good and it’s cool that’s it’s returning but being a sequel having a brand new mode would help warm me too it. And I hope I do warm to it because Splatoon 2 is one of my favourite switch games.
A test fire would also be awesome!
I really hope Splatoon 3 will offer a single player campaign like Ratchet and Clank games. This would be a dealbreaker for me.
Single player campaign. More like Octo Expansion please. Open-world or adventure mode would be awesome.
What do I want to see from this very specific Splatoon Direct??
Smash Bros character reveal and BOTW2 news, OBVIOUSLY!
just show us WHY it's it deserves to be a sequel and not just be Splatoon 2 DLC
I'm hoping for some more news on the single player as well as any new multiplayer modes. The reveal trailer in February 2021 hinted that the campaign might be something more this time around, so I want to see the direction they went in.
News about literally any other game.
A new trailer with some maps and modes shown which will make you think your watching splatoon 2.
Seriously though a brand new mode would be nice, co op especially
I love love love the polls. I love seeing people's differing opinions and seeing them explain in the comments.
Not the game I was expecting a direct for but I’m happy those that like Splatoon are getting one.
Now how about a Advance Wars Direct with a new release date.
Still really want the option to save weapon and gear loadouts. That would be slick! Other than that I want to see what new modes they'll have.
Also the option to just choose what you want to play without having to wait for it to come around in the rotation. Also full time Salmon Run.
I want to see squids.
Therefore, it's a high likelihood I'll walk away pleased.
I want more. And I know I shouldn't.
Obviously new modes, but more so I’m wondering if the apartments thing is real. Who’s the idol/s? Any other new weapon types? What is going on with the single player? I feel like it’s more than just basic obstacle courses this time
What I mostly want to see is some kind of confirmation that we'll have more control over what modes we want to play when we want to play them, and having access to more than two stages at a time for any given mode.
Played some Splatoon 2 earlier this week, and ended up playing the same stage 10 times in a row during one of the mode rotations, from the already limited selection of only 2 stages...
And I was trying to work towards bumping up a couple of my mode rankings back up to X before 3's release, only to close the game evening after evening because the mode I wanted to play wasn't active/available during the times I checked.
It would also be nice if we could just outright choose what specials and sub-items we wanted to use for any given weapon, rather than having so many of them set in stone.
Really, re-visiting Splatoon 2 has been killing my enthusiasm for playing Splatoon 3, so it would be nice to know they're aware of and trying to iron out the wrinkles in the sequel to get me hyped up for it. Feeling like I might just wait to see some raw gameplay footage from other people playing after release to see if it's worth it.
@Rika_Yoshitake no we need more marina
(dissent will not be tolerated 🔫)
This seems like an Overwatch 2 situation. Why aren't these multiplayer-focused games just updated? Selling another $60 boxed copy just seems like a way for them to make easy money
and/or
No matter what this game shows on 1000 directs, i´ll only buy it if the game has one of these 2 (or both).
I don´t feel sad if i don´t buy this game. I won´t miss anything, because only these 2 conditions interest me about this game. Without it...i miss nothing.
Anything except Splatoon 4
The only thing that could possibly get me to buy this game would be if it has an incredible single player campaign. I got my fill of Splatoon multiplayer back on the Wii U.
The Octo Expansion of Splatoon 2 is something I really would love to play, but I'm not gonna pay $80 for it. Wish I could buy it as a standalone.
I was about to jump on Splatoon 2 and then they announced 3 so I've been chomping at the bit to play this one! Couldn't be more excited!
Great! So...the usual September schedule is open for a full Direct after Splatoon 3 releases...perhaps with the big reveal of the Untitled Sequel to the Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Game for the Nintendo Switch Family of Systems Game™...?
A bonus reveal of the Switch successor at the end of the Direct, so I can finally get RE2make, RE Village on a handheld (I don't trust the Steam Deck to really deliver on that front).
But of course it's not gonna happen. Maybe later this year though.
If the game has a worthwhile single-player campaign, that might pique my interest, just like with Smash Bros.
Excited for all of it. New campaign details, maps, modes etc. This Direct will be a fun watch.
Something that actually entices me. Every trailer until now just screams Splatoon 2+ to me. I want new modes, story details, a single player that feels different to the main story of the previous two games...
Game modes! The more game modes the better!
I only played 2 and enjoyed the single player campaign in the base game without dabbling much in the online multiplayer, but sold it before the DLC was announced 😭 So really, 3 doesn't feel like a retread at all to me and I'm all in.
Link's Crossbow Training > Splatoon.
... Wun can only hope.
I'm fully committed to the game - it will be my first one.
I have such a show internet connection, it literally doesn't load any online multilayer! (Thank God for the free test weekend! 😳)
And only playing Splatoon for single player seems wrong! So this is a series I would love, but can't live right now!
As a big Splatoon fan since 2, I should be excited for the Direct! Nintendo’s been so tight-lipped about brand-new info, and tweeting about old things like the return of weapons and fashion brands doesn’t help, but I’m not worried at all about this being more of the same. Chaos is about change, so I don’t expect Splatoon to just get change in aesthetics but gameplay too. New modes should be a given.
One thing I want to see that’s not listed in the poll is the new pop star duo. I want to see a new pair not seen before. They could be a duo of Octoling girls like how Off the Hook was originally envisioned in Splatoon 2 concept art. They could even be a boy band! Splatsville should be very different from Inkopolis in how they do things, and this would be nicely symbolic of that.
Only ONE Thing: lock motion controls to the Y-axis only. Like in the original. That's what made motion controls finally work and was the best first person aiming system on console that I've ever used.
Anything new. It just looks like Splatoon 2.5 and we need to see what's different. Especially in terms of new modes. All of the modes shown so far are just what we got in Splatoon 2.
amiibos(probably) and apartments(if it happens) meh. the rest is a YES PLEASE!
Would rather see more info and footage from BotW2 and Metroid Prime 4. Or even a new F-Zero game. Or Wind Waker and Twilight Princess HD coming out on Switch.
For them to take steps to make the online comparable to any other team based online shooter. Stopped playing when me and friends. Couldn't play together as a group of 3 and pick a side to play on
i'm wondering if the story mode is going to be Open World or Platformer just like 1 and 2 we're, i'm cool with either one. but curious to see what there doing in Story Mode.
It's no Breath of the Wild 2 Direct or a normal full-fat 40 minute Direct, I guess we'll have to wait early December or next year for it
@FawfulDX That's a long, yet funny title
I hope to see some more Salmon Run. New mechanics and jobs and such. I'm itchin' to work for Grizzco!
I want them to pull the rug out from under us and have the whole Direct be about more and more sweet, sweet JRPGs.
I like Splatoon a lot, and I love Splatoon 2. But nothing I've seen so far has me excited for Splatoon 3. Nintendo will have to show an awful lot of brand-new modes and other surprises to convince me that this shouldn't have just been another expansion to Splatoon 2.
A true local multiplayer mode. 🤷🏾♂️
No. NSO. Required.
I could rant on about Splatoon 2, but to sum it up, you can only truly experience the game with NSO.
My two main hopes are more modes to play in casual play and a way to make sure you always play on the same team as your friends. Apart from that, I really want new amiibo and apartments.
I wasnt to much into 2 and I actually sold it later on. I loved the first game and thought the second was fine but perhaps it was more of the same, thus why I sold it. Think they’ll need to give this the Mario Kart 8 treatment and just give about a good 5 years of updates.
No clam blitz. More modes. Not so dang restrictive on what we play and when. Better and easier friend connectivity.
All we need is more info on MK8D Wave 3
Give me split screen.
I'd like to see a Xenoblade 3 Direct from this week's Splatoon 3 Direct! Oh wait that already happened once.
It needs to let you group up with friends and be on the same team. I hate how you can play with friends but it's a roll of the dice if you get to play together.
@AtlanteanMan Pokemon is being released this year, they aren't worried.
@Gryffin saying y axis is meaningless unless you provide a graph to show what you mean, just say vertical or horizontal plane
Offline bots are what's going to sell it to me. Otherwise, not interested
