I would make a post in which I deliberately make a grammatical error, but that would be so out-of-character for me. Still, given my quirky sense of humour there's really no concrete idea of what I could be capable of.
Bulbasaur is indeed strong against the first four Gym Leaders, there's no denying that. It also has type disadvantages against Psychic, Fire and Ice-type moves, in which Sabrina, Blaine and Lorelei, respectively, specialise. But by that point you should already have other types of Pokémon to offset the Bulbasaur line's disadvantages.
And of course, Sabrina's the most overpowered Gym Leader in Gen I, giving even those who chose Squirtle a tough time (even if you had a Gastly, Haunter, Gengar or Beedrill - the only Pokémon of that time with a worthwhile Bug-type move - they all ended up with a weakness to Psychic-type moves due to being part Poison-type).
In the end, not even science can contradict peoples' opinions on which starter they prefer, which is why there's a choice in the first place. People have differing likes and dislikes, and that's what makes us all unique. Trying to scientifically prove that a person's choice is wrong is...well...wrong.
I'd probably go with a white one to match my white 3DS XL. Then, if I end up getting the LBW 3DS XL I'd just wait until I could get a normal black one. Of course, this plan would only work if these awesome Charging Cradles make it to the Downunderverse.
It's definitely something I'd consider if it makes it to Australia. Of course we'd probably end up with a PS4 bundle instead after what happened with Giants here.
When I read the title and tagline of this article, my first thought was of a quirky card game called Killer Bunnies and the Quest for the Magic Carrot rather than Angry Birds.
Great video! There's just one thing that bugs me (no, it's not Caterpie): the games that kicked off the franchise in Japan were Pocket Monsters Red and Pocket Monsters Green. Blue didn't become commercially available until about a year later, the very first "third version" of the franchise. Then, a couple of years after that marked the release of Pokémon Red Version and Pokémon Blue Version, games which combined Blue's gameplay engine, features and Pokémon sprites with the version-exclusives and in-game trades of Red and Green. In a sense, the rest of the world retroactively got FireRed and LeafGreen almost a decade before Japan, as they combine Gen III versions of Blue's features with Red and Green's Monster distribution.
My bro will be in New York, NY in a week or two, so he'll be able to check out the display.
@gamingreal: I've found a number of Electric-type Pokémon since Santalune Forest, though many of them are Pikamon (Pachirisu, Emolga and Dedenne). I did, however, catch a Helioptile on Spikes Road, which is now my primary Electric-type and Normal-type in my party.
Back in Pokémon Pearl I caught my first ever non-event Shiny Pokémon, a Psyduck, in Lake Valor. A couple of days ago I found my second during a Horde Encounter. Can you guess what it was? That's right! Another Psyduck! Needless to say I proceeded to catch it.
I was browsing the EB Games website today, and to my surprise the Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds 3DS XL bundle is coming to Australia! It would be the first time that I've had two special edition Nintendo handhelds in the same console generation (or at all, for that matter) if I asked my parents for one for Christmas.
Let's see...I had Mario Galaxy for a week and never got around to getting it...I had Mario Kart Wii but miss playing it...I adore Smash Bros. Brawl yet don't currently own a copy due to an issue with my old one...I missed out on Twilight Princess but I'm curious to try it out...and I gave my copy of Sports Resort to my bro so I could get the combo pack I never got around to buying...so any of these could be potential purchases.
@flummerfelt: The Aussie dollar is near-parity with the US dollar, and prices for newer 3DS and Wii U games have dropped compared to older DS, 3DS and Wii games...but not by much. A new copy of Mario Kart 7 is around $70 AUD, compared with Mario & Luigi: Dream Team Bros., which costs $60AUD.
The only place I save in cities and towns is inside the Pokémon Center. It's an automatic instinct I've been doing for years, so there's not too much danger of me saving outside in Lumiose City. I feel sympathetic to those who have saved outside in the City of Lights, though.
I was telling a staff member at my local Big W about how I'd like to get a Wii U, and he responded with an abrupt "Oh, I heard they're not very good though". Clearly he hadn't even played one before, which just goes to show that first-hand experience is often a good thing.
I don't know if you should be saying they're the fastest-selling 3DS games "of all time". There could be a 3DS game down the track which surpasses them in sales; it could even be another Pokémon game.
"'Hoy, Small Fry! My back's really been creaking with agony lately, so could you hit me with a small object launched by a projectile device? If you do I'll use my magic inkbrush to mark your sea chart despite not having hands!"
I ended up getting both, though Pokémon Y was a birthday gift for my brother. I can understand why Pokémon XY is doing so well, as it is a brilliant game to be sure.
Practically every first-party Nintendo release comes out on a Saturday in Australia, so it's not really too out-of-the-ordinary for me to get it today.
Me: "Ooh, Pokémon X and Y news!... Well, look at that! Ditto now has an evolved form? And it can breed eggs with Legendary Pokémon?! AND NIDOQUEEN?! Wait...this is a spoiler! Oh nuuuuuuuu!"
Well, my preorders are down, so there should be no need to worry about missing out. It's kinda weird, actually; lately I've been going all-digital to keep my games in one place, and also for the convenience of the eShop...but I just couldn't resist the packaging for Pokémon X! So I'll buy the download at a later date, but keep the boxed copy as a spare save file.
Still no word on the Legendary Triple Pack then. Also, for a while now I've assumed that LFR and LNS would be in a double pack of some kind, but I guess not. I already worked out nicknames to give them as well:
Legendary Free Ranger - Cage Fighter Legendary Night Shift - Punch Out
I see the Torchic event, as well as the cryptic comment stating that "Blazikenite cannot be obtained normally in X and Y", to be subtle clues that there may be Gen VI remakes of Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire. I also see the fact that you can choose a Kanto starter in-game to be a further nod to Gen III, specifically FireRed and LeafGreen, offering further evidence of eventual RS remakes. As for my teams in both X and Y, I'm thinking something along the lines of...
Game 1: Charmander, Froakie, Skiddo, Espeon, Fairy-type exclusive, seven others Game 2: Squirtle, Chespin, Litleo, Glaceon, Fairy-type exclusive, seven others Game 3: Bulbasaur, Fennekin, Helioptile, Vaporeon, eight others
@Superconsole: Brilliant review! It's made me all the more excited for Pokémon X and Y's launch. Hopefully I can last one more week before I reach excitement overload!
"The year is 1885, before the accolades and awards...Nintendo got its start by making Hanafuda cards!" I love that song so very much! But I digress...if it's legitimate, I would most definitely like the option to receive such a set on CN (No, not Cartoon Network! I mean Club Nintendo, silly! ).
Couldn't this same feature work for people with two or more 3DS consoles, such as being able to download two copies of the same game for multiplayer fun without having to shell-out for it? In any case this is one feature for which I've been patiently waiting since the eShop's birth over two years ago.
Dang it! My brother won't be in NY until a week later!
Pokémon Trivia: Koffing was called Ny in a prototype build of Pokémon Red and Blue, apparently named after New York. Its evolution, Weezing, was called La, after Los Angeles. This would have made them the Pokémon with the shortest English names, a title currently held by Mew, along with Weezing's counterpart, Muk.
I'm giving serious thought towards asking for one of these for my birthday. If the apparent upgrades are for a grand unified account system then it'll make me consider it all the more.
A unified account system with the possibility of cross-platform games? New Virtual Consoles in both eShops? The ability for both Wii U and 3DS to make your breakfast, fold your laundry, and walk your dog/cat/electric rodent?
We've certainly come a long way as gamers. Nowadays many Nintendo fans are eagerly awaiting the release of games on Nintendo 3DS and Wii U, such as three announced Zelda titles, two new entries in the Super Smash Bros. series, about 500 new Mario games due by Q4 2013, and of course Pokémon X and Pokémon Y.
