Re: Data Says - Choose Squirtle in Pokémon Red & Blue

GamerZack87

Bulbasaur is indeed strong against the first four Gym Leaders, there's no denying that. It also has type disadvantages against Psychic, Fire and Ice-type moves, in which Sabrina, Blaine and Lorelei, respectively, specialise. But by that point you should already have other types of Pokémon to offset the Bulbasaur line's disadvantages.

And of course, Sabrina's the most overpowered Gym Leader in Gen I, giving even those who chose Squirtle a tough time (even if you had a Gastly, Haunter, Gengar or Beedrill - the only Pokémon of that time with a worthwhile Bug-type move - they all ended up with a weakness to Psychic-type moves due to being part Poison-type).

In the end, not even science can contradict peoples' opinions on which starter they prefer, which is why there's a choice in the first place. People have differing likes and dislikes, and that's what makes us all unique. Trying to scientifically prove that a person's choice is wrong is...well...wrong.

Re: Video: Nintendo Releases a Pokémon Series Showcase For You to Enjoy

GamerZack87

Great video! There's just one thing that bugs me (no, it's not Caterpie): the games that kicked off the franchise in Japan were Pocket Monsters Red and Pocket Monsters Green. Blue didn't become commercially available until about a year later, the very first "third version" of the franchise. Then, a couple of years after that marked the release of Pokémon Red Version and Pokémon Blue Version, games which combined Blue's gameplay engine, features and Pokémon sprites with the version-exclusives and in-game trades of Red and Green. In a sense, the rest of the world retroactively got FireRed and LeafGreen almost a decade before Japan, as they combine Gen III versions of Blue's features with Red and Green's Monster distribution.

My bro will be in New York, NY in a week or two, so he'll be able to check out the display.

@dumedum: Not everybody has a smartphone.

Re: New Nintendo Selects Titles Coming to Australia and New Zealand

GamerZack87

Let's see...I had Mario Galaxy for a week and never got around to getting it...I had Mario Kart Wii but miss playing it...I adore Smash Bros. Brawl yet don't currently own a copy due to an issue with my old one...I missed out on Twilight Princess but I'm curious to try it out...and I gave my copy of Sports Resort to my bro so I could get the combo pack I never got around to buying...so any of these could be potential purchases.

@flummerfelt: The Aussie dollar is near-parity with the US dollar, and prices for newer 3DS and Wii U games have dropped compared to older DS, 3DS and Wii games...but not by much. A new copy of Mario Kart 7 is around $70 AUD, compared with Mario & Luigi: Dream Team Bros., which costs $60AUD.

Re: Pokémon X & Y Sells Out in Japan Before It Even Launches

GamerZack87

Well, my preorders are down, so there should be no need to worry about missing out. It's kinda weird, actually; lately I've been going all-digital to keep my games in one place, and also for the convenience of the eShop...but I just couldn't resist the packaging for Pokémon X! So I'll buy the download at a later date, but keep the boxed copy as a spare save file.

Re: Pokémon X & Y Torchic Distribution Announced

GamerZack87

I see the Torchic event, as well as the cryptic comment stating that "Blazikenite cannot be obtained normally in X and Y", to be subtle clues that there may be Gen VI remakes of Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire. I also see the fact that you can choose a Kanto starter in-game to be a further nod to Gen III, specifically FireRed and LeafGreen, offering further evidence of eventual RS remakes. As for my teams in both X and Y, I'm thinking something along the lines of...

Game 1: Charmander, Froakie, Skiddo, Espeon, Fairy-type exclusive, seven others
Game 2: Squirtle, Chespin, Litleo, Glaceon, Fairy-type exclusive, seven others
Game 3: Bulbasaur, Fennekin, Helioptile, Vaporeon, eight others

@Superconsole: Brilliant review! It's made me all the more excited for Pokémon X and Y's launch. Hopefully I can last one more week before I reach excitement overload!

Re: Pokémon Hanafuda Playing Cards Hitting Japan This Month

GamerZack87

"The year is 1885, before the accolades and awards...Nintendo got its start by making Hanafuda cards!"
I love that song so very much! But I digress...if it's legitimate, I would most definitely like the option to receive such a set on CN (No, not Cartoon Network! I mean Club Nintendo, silly! ).

Re: Celebrate the launch of Pokémon X & Y at Nintendo World in New York

GamerZack87

Dang it! My brother won't be in NY until a week later!

Pokémon Trivia: Koffing was called Ny in a prototype build of Pokémon Red and Blue, apparently named after New York. Its evolution, Weezing, was called La, after Los Angeles. This would have made them the Pokémon with the shortest English names, a title currently held by Mew, along with Weezing's counterpart, Muk.

Re: Hardware Review: Nintendo 2DS

I'm giving serious thought towards asking for one of these for my birthday. If the apparent upgrades are for a grand unified account system then it'll make me consider it all the more.
