Re: Rumour: SEGA And Retro-Bit Might Actually Be Working On A Secret Retro Console

GC-161

@cleveland124 I know that the truth upsets you but the fact is that Breath of the Wild is basically a Wii U game. Period.

The awards were given to the game itself. Not the platforms. Still, it was a Wii U game developed with that console in mind.

So yes, the Wii U has a GOTY awarded game while the Dreamcast never had that and will never have that.

Re: Rumour: SEGA And Retro-Bit Might Actually Be Working On A Secret Retro Console

GC-161

@cleveland124 First of all, the Dreamcast did NOT sell "nearly 10 million" it sold nearly 9 million units of hardware. By comparison, the Wii U sold "nearly 14 million" units (using your own arbitrary measure of sales).

Second, in terms of software, the Wii U sold 102 million units of software. The Dreamcast didn't even came close to those numbers.

And third, a Wii U game won the most GOTY awards in 2017, beating out games from other platforms. Which the Dreamcast never achieve in its own time.

Sorry dude, but even the Wii U beats the absolute crap out of the Dreamcast. Try comparing it to the Atari Jaguar next time.

Re: Chose Your Own Adventure And Solve The Case As Late Shift Arrives On Switch This Month

GC-161

@sillygostly Barely any downloads and its at 25% ??? You got some extra stuff stored in that card not related to the Switch?

I did that with my 2nd 3DS. I didn't download anything to it beside demos and used most of the SD card memory to save videos and family pics.

Are you making a stealthy request for retail versions of these games? Just say it dewd. How else are these devs going to get that message.

Re: Zelda And Nintendo Win Big At The 2018 D.I.C.E. Awards

GC-161

@Bunkerneath "Mario Kart 8 Deluxe - Racing Game of the Year? Poor old Gran Turismo, beaten by a port"

Poor GT? Nah! Poor all the current gen games that were beaten by a 'last-gen game'

Zelda is a Wii U game. It beat them all.

Let that sink in.... a Wii U game is 2017's GOTY.

Re: The Nintendo Switch News Channel Took Almost A Year To Create

GC-161

@alasdair91 There was no news feed on the 3DS, breh. I call #FakeNews on that one.

@shani A lackluster device that is still the best selling gaming hardware for months.

Imagine when superfluous features come out to eat the Switch's battery. It will surpass the Wii or maybe even the DS in sales.

Re: Guide: Bayonetta 2 - How The Combat Scoring System Works And How To Get A Platinum Trophy In Every Battle

GC-161

@peeks Naw, trophies are for those that need an incentive to play games. No such thing is needed for most Nintendo games. Especially when many of them already have collectable items.

"Given that basically no one bought a Wii U (sorry, Wii U!) chances are you've never played this excellent hack and slasher."

Most never played Bayo 2 because most retail copies were bought by scalpers that were selling the game for hundreds of dollars

Re: Lots Of Developers At Square Enix Want To Make Games For Switch, Says President And CEO

GC-161

I hope to see more Dragon Quest, Bravely Default and Secret of Mana. Maybe a Chrono Trigger HD remake?

Don't care for Kingdom Hearts. Never found the series appealing. The gameplay was always a mayor issue with me. Didn't help that I also don't care for Disney characters that much. But Square Enix made it a point to keep the mainline games on PlayStation systems. And as far as I am concerned, it can stay there this gen as well.

I think Square Enix will also keep mainline Final Fantasy on PS4 as to not fracture the fanbase. Again, I got no problems with that.

Just give us proper Dragon Quest games and some new experimental JRPGs like Project Octopath

Re: Ubisoft Is the Leading Third-Party Publisher on Nintendo Switch

GC-161

@KryptoKrunch Those dismissive type of comments are pretty predictable, actually.

Nintendo can't win. Like, not ever with these people.

I mean, Nintendo Life just posted a video dealing with 9 Mario games that need to be erased from existance.

Which proved that just handing the Mario license to a 3rd party dev does not guarantee success.

Re: Ubisoft Is the Leading Third-Party Publisher on Nintendo Switch

GC-161

Nintendoomer reads:

>> Third party company achieves success on Switch <<

(Moves goal posts)

"Yeah but that was an exclusive 3rd party game that used Nintendo characters. So it doesn't count as a 3rd party success"

Wait for it...

Edit: LOL And like clockwork someone said something like that to take away some credit from the game:

"Well, no wonder. It has Mario in the name and on the box art.

Not saying that's the only reason it sold so well, but there's no way that that wasn't a massive helping hand."

Re: Video: 9 Mario Games We Wish had Never Existed

GC-161

But 3rd party Mario games are currently meme generators.

I've yet to see a Tumblr timeline without a Hotel Mario meme on it

P.S. Besides, the worse Mario game is still better than any Sonic game (oh no he didn't!!!! Oh yes I did. I went there)

Re: Soapbox: What Happened To All The Great Baseball Games On Nintendo Consoles?

GC-161

@Nygiantz17 The stats are real. Studies were made just last year about it. They found out most active & dedicated fans are generally around age 55+.

So the solution would be to get more young people involved in the sport. Unfortunately, there isn't a big draw for that at the moment. No huge star or something making headlines. And playing the sport as a kid requires having a certain amount of peeps and field (big enough area). By comparison, basketball is easy af to pick up and play. You only need 2 people to have a decent session. Even playing alone is fun. But baseball? Not as easy.

A good way to introduce young ppl inti baseball would be video games. But devs probably look at the numbers and go: "baseball is only popular with old decrepit fossils". So they instead do something else that they think kids would like.

@ekwcll Ok let me take that back about baseball being boring. But only in part. Its boring to watch. But it's a joy to play for real.

In regards to the age thing. Those numbers are real. But that's not to say younger ppl don't like baseball.

Re: Soapbox: What Happened To All The Great Baseball Games On Nintendo Consoles?

GC-161

To put it bluntly, its mostly because baseball is boring.

And currently, most fans of the sport are of the older variety (50 and over mostly). Which means that they're well beyond the videogame optimal demographic.

Doesn't help that ticket prices have gone up but player's performance has gone down. Nobody exciting on any field.

Maybe Nintendo will port Wii Sports to the Switch, tho.

Re: Donkey Kong Scorekeeper Rubbishes Billy Mitchell's Claims Of Fabricated Footage

GC-161

@Mr_Pepperami LOL I knew it!... you are quick to lose your temper. Look at you get vapors over a few letters spelling "BREH"

The point is that if I did that to you, you would certainly get all bent out of shape about it.

So you trying to shame gamers that think achieving records as something irrelevant and insignificant sure sounds hypocritical.

What say YOU now, breh?

Re: Donkey Kong Scorekeeper Rubbishes Billy Mitchell's Claims Of Fabricated Footage

GC-161

@Mr_Pepperami But that's your FLESH AND BLOOD, son. Not the same thing at all.

So let me change the scenario a bit... what would you do if you AND your son were playing a game. Bonding by beating a near impossible boss. Achieving a near impossible trophy together. Something that would stay in your son's memory banks well after you're gone.... and then just as you both are going to win... I, a complete stranger, pull the plug.

"ITS JUST A GAME, BREHS!"

Re: Daruk Voice Actor Had No Idea That He Was Auditioning For Breath of the Wild

GC-161

@Pnkr0cker The way Voice Actors perform is entirely up to the voice director (s).

In this case, none of the actors had any idea what the real context was. They only had the director(s) as a guide. Maybe even the director himself/herself was in the dark about the context of the scenes. And only had a superficial guideline to follow.

That's the problem with projects where they cannot share a lot of info. A lot of guess work.

Re: Random: Counting The Screws In NES Cartridges Is A Big Deal For Collectors

GC-161

@youkoaoshi Yard sales are still a viable option tho. I bought several NES games at one of them. Including a mint Castlevania III copy & Startropics. The woman that sold them to me had ZERO clue what they were (she thought they were PC games and had placed them in the same box as real PC games). She said those were from his son who left them after he went to college a decade or so prior. So whenever I see a yard sale, I'm there looking to get lucky again.

Re: Rumour: A New Perfect Dark Game Is In Development, But Rare Isn't Involved

GC-161

Man, I remember when Rare Ltd. was heavily involved with KINECT projects. But that ship sailed into an iceberg. Who would've thunk it.

Now some of their best IP's (Killer Instinct, Perfect Dark) are not even being developed by them.

Rare should just drop the name and start over with a new one. Make new IPs and make a new for themselves.

Re: Random: Counting The Screws In NES Cartridges Is A Big Deal For Collectors

GC-161

@MarcelRguez Well when it comes to hobbies that depend almost entirely on NOSTALGIA you can't really expect for them to be very casual friendly. I mean let's be real here.

Even when nostalgia is not a factor you find similar hurdles, like... I'm not gonna casually go into coin/stamp collecting and expect the best coins/stamps to be affordable or easy to get a hold of. That's not how it works. Otherwise why collect stuff like that.

In a perfect world, sure... everyone would have easy access to everything. But collectors have set things up so that hunting for items is fun for THEM not casuals.

@youkoaoshi Which games are you looking for? Are you trying to find rare NES carts? I doubt those will see a price drop any time soon.

Regular NES carts are not THAT expensive, IMO. I mean some will go from $3-$5 bucks while a game like Zelda (gold cart) will go for $30. Unless you are looking for boxed carts, then sure. But then you're in collector's territory if you want that.

Re: Indie Dev Talks About Having Switch Proposals Turned Down By Nintendo Five Times

GC-161

@mike_intv I mean it might be easier for indies dealing with NOE than NOA.

However, the biggest hurdle after that is dealing with the European ratings board. Which is a lot more finicky (and expensive) than their American counterpart. Since they ask for a fee and a working demo before giving them a pass.

So yeah, releasing videogames isn't an easy thing (unless you stick to Steam and deal with getting buried with a gazillion half-baked "games"). Instead of complaining, they should do more networking and making contacts (friends).

Re: Random: Counting The Screws In NES Cartridges Is A Big Deal For Collectors

GC-161

@MarcelRguez What rare carts are you looking for on eBay that you cannot afford? The ones that have screws like the ones collectors want them to have?

Just look for the cheaper options and avoid the expensive ones. Simple.

Flea markets are still a cheaper alternative too. eBay is for suckers looking to spend too much money anyways.

Re: Random: Counting The Screws In NES Cartridges Is A Big Deal For Collectors

GC-161

@MarcelRguez But it doesn't affect a non serious collector like YOU, tho.

Why would someone who doesn't collect care if collectors are so anal about the stuff they collect? If they wanna go hardcore with their hobby, seems to me that they can place as many arbitrary rules or demands about what they spend their money on. Go nuts, I say.

Live and let live.
