Re: Random: Counting The Screws In NES Cartridges Is A Big Deal For Collectors

GC-161

@MarcelRguez I mean, I wouldn't care about screws on a cartridge but then again I'm not a serious collector who would notice such a thing.

If you are a collector of anything, you're suppose to know every detail of what you're collecting. Otherwise you're just a casual hobbyist that is not very knowledgeable about what you're buying.

Re: Dark Horror Platformer Dream Alone Will Spook Its Way Onto Switch Soon

GC-161

@Deathwalka Ah yes, I forgot about Corpse Party. And I guess the SMT games are on the creepy side too.

But man, if it wasn't for Steam, I would've missed out on a ton of horror games.

I really hope Switch gets a lot of them. I might double dip with Outlast on Switch. And especially if ALIEN ISOLATION gets released on it.

Re: Dark Horror Platformer Dream Alone Will Spook Its Way Onto Switch Soon

GC-161

I mainly played on a handheld when it came to Nintendo platforms in gen 8. That means that I had almost zero to play in terms of horror games on the 3DS.

I mean there was Resident Evil Revelations (not scary except for the Maydaaaaay! part) & Dementium Remastered (it was OK but a bit too old school to be scary). And I think that was it on the 3DS.

Hopefully we get more quality horror games on Switch.

Re: Super Meat Boy's Day One Switch Sales Almost As High As Its Xbox 360 Debut

GC-161

@KryptoKrunch Especially the salty responses from users who haven't touched their Switch "in years and years". Those are a nice.

Indies having success on the Switch... nah we can't have that.

Gotta love the armchair Nostradamus who claim Nintendo has nothing prepared for the Switch in 2018, tho. No Metroid, no Smash and no Animal Crossing (3DS version outsold THE LAST OF US so its not an insignificant IP).

Re: Nintendo Kicks Off A Big Sale on the North American 3DS eShop

GC-161

@patbacknitro That user is VERY resistant to the idea that the 3DS can have a relevant life at retail in 2018.

But the facts are that the 3DS didn't have a bad a year in 2017 as many had predicted. Especially after they pushed the narrative that the Switch would replace that handheld. It didn't.

And we have the numbers to prove it. Here's how many units the 3DS sold in the US market alone by year.

2011 - 4.1 million
2012 - 3.6 million
2013 - 3.8 million
2014 - 2.6 million
2015 - 2.4 million
2016 - 2.5 million
2017 - 2 million

The drop in sales has not been as huge as many thought it sould be. Fact is, the 3DS is still a healthy platform (especially in Japan). And Nintendo will support it with new games in 2018 and beyond.

Re: Super Meat Boy's Day One Switch Sales Almost As High As Its Xbox 360 Debut

GC-161

@Alikan My PC is at a point where it will be soon obsolete for modern gaming. And looking at how much it will cost to replace or update it... yeah, costs went up a LOT lately. Apparently thanks the cryptocurrency craze. So my gaming options might suffer a bit if things do not change on that front.

Anyway... yeah the Switch is a lifesaver for sure.

Re: Rumour: SEGA And Retro-Bit Might Actually Be Working On A Secret Retro Console

GC-161

@UmbreonsPapa But you could say the same about uber popular platforms like NES and Snes that are infamous for having emulators running on just about anything with a screen or a cpu. And you can also find NES, SNES games on eshop, ios and on android devices.

And yet Nintendo can still make bank on them (see NES/SNES minis). With no problems or issues about the market being saturated with them at all.

IMO, ppl are selling the Mega Drive/Genesis short. Some dude here even said to me that its library of games was basically unimpressive because you could play many of its games on the SNES. Which is an inane argument since that logic also could apply to the SNES, and yet that didn't stop said platform from being such a magnet for gamers with the SNES mini.

Re: Rumour: SEGA And Retro-Bit Might Actually Be Working On A Secret Retro Console

GC-161

@ThanosReXXX Well form factor is subjective. The Dreamcast's control pad wasn't exactly very ergonomical. But again, subjective stuff.

What is not fanfiction tho, is that the Wii U had games that were not only as good as anything produced for the Dreamcast but even better games as well.

Hell, one of its games is currently GOTY for over 150 gaming/non-gaming publications.

But yeah, DC was one of the greats of its generation BECAUSE OF ITS GAMES.

Hey! Like the Wii U. 😁

Re: Rumour: SEGA And Retro-Bit Might Actually Be Working On A Secret Retro Console

GC-161

@ThanosReXXX Well I wasn't implying that the Dreamcast had the exact same problems and issues that plagued the Wii U. Only that they both failed to catch on.

I was a gamer back then and I remember the excitement the Dreamcast generated around my friends. Similar to when the Wii U first hit. I then saw both consoles quickly fall from grace. Each for different reasons, of course.

I do remember how everyone thought the DC would beat the PlayStation 2. Since it had amazing games. But then the PS2 became a Dreamcast port station (at least initially). So much for that.

In regards to what could've been for Dreamcast... well, that's fanfiction territory. Its the same as going "if Nintendo and Sony had joined forces, we would be playing Mario on a Playstation at present". We just don't know for sure.

Re: Nintendo Switch Is Seeing Record Sales In Both France And Italy

GC-161

@JasmineDragon Well that may be true. But we're not seeing the UK being replaced as 'the face of Europe' any time soon in the videogame scene (politically or economically that's a whole 'nother ballgame).

The reason for that is that a good chunk of the videogames industry was born in the UK. No one can erase that. And I doubt that it will change soon.

Not unless the gaming markets in Germany, France or Italy get better organized in making themselves known. You barely hear about them unless its about how x game wasn't translated or because it was censored.

In terms of Nintendo, I think said company has better support in most European countries. Better than in the UK. Since retail stores in the UK traditionally ignore Nintendo products.

Re: Praise The Sun! Dark Souls: Remastered Is Coming To Switch This May

GC-161

@thesilverbrick I think current Nintendo fans are of the older variety, actually.

Kids these days? They won't play on Nintendo consoles. They want GTA, Overwatch and all the M rated games.

Meanwhile, older gamers are coming back to Nintendo. We see it with the Switch and especially with the success of retro consoles like the NES/SNES minis. And even Pokemon. Kids that grew up with that are in their mid 20's or even older.

I mean iconic Ninty IP's are all in their 25/30's such as Metroid, Mario and Zelda. Who plays these games? Mostly adults. Because kids want some of that sweet mahture action.

So yeah, I do think most of the gamers that are called "Nintendo fans" these days will gravitate to something like Dark Souls.

Re: Nintendo's French Boss Says We Should Expect More Switch Announcements From EA

GC-161

@Gorbash333 That game by Viseral was scrapped and cancelled because it was too focused on being a single player experience. EA demanded that it be more online multiplayer friendly. But that forced the dev team to spread itself too thin trying to make two games at the same time.

The one you're talking about is an open world game. A game that will be more of what EA demanded from Viseral.

Re: Soapbox: Dark Souls’ Ruthless Recipe Perfectly Suits Switch’s Evolving Audience

GC-161

@KIRO Well if you have a HUGE backlog of games, maybe investing time GETTIN' GUD with a game like this might not be fer you.

But its something you can talk about your grandkids about, tho.

I mean old Nintendo gamers are already telling their grandkids that only play GTA of how it was back in the days for them. When they only had enough money to buy ONE game every 3-6 months. Because cartridge base games were sold for as much as $80 bucks. So they had to get as much mileage as possible from every game.

Thus why buying a hard as nails game in the NES era was the best option to get more bang from yer money.

Re: Praise The Sun! Dark Souls: Remastered Is Coming To Switch This May

GC-161

@thesilverbrick Name calling?

I called you an armchair psychologist because that's exactly how you were behaving.

Anyway my main point: because of you missing out on that specific period of time (NES at its peak) you obviously didn't get why Dark Souls would be something old Nintendo gamers would find it attractive.

Re: Nintendo Switch Is Seeing Record Sales In Both France And Italy

GC-161

@clvr aw, c'mon... vgchartz? Seriously?

That site has the reputation of Breitbart, the National Enquirer and Buzzfeed.

But I will say that thanks to the Switch's eShop best seller lists from specific countries, that we're now getting a better idea what sells outside of the main 3 videogame markets.

Re: Praise The Sun! Dark Souls: Remastered Is Coming To Switch This May

GC-161

@thesilverbrick Ah, so you weren't yet fully "operational" when Nintendo fans were playing those h@rdc0r3 games. Thus you were too young to understand how DS would be something THOSE type of Nintendo fans would probably like to play.

Got ya.

@Agramonte There's always time to play Tetris or Pac-Man. It's not like you have to set aside even an hour for it. A couple of minutes is usually enough to get a quick fix.

You'll still have a ton of time to play Battlefront II or OW.

Re: Praise The Sun! Dark Souls: Remastered Is Coming To Switch This May

GC-161

@thesilverbrick Nintendo fans have been around before you were given form.

So it could be something for OLD SCHOOL Nintendo fans that grew up on Ninja Gaiden, (non Metroidvania) Castlevania games and other "cheap" games that made AVGN throw his controllers against a wall or blow up a cartridge. That's what they probably meant.

@Agramonte - Souls on Switch... another reason not to turn on your PS4.
