Re: Video: Retro Emulation Finally Comes To Switch Following Homebrew Hacking Efforts

GC-161

@NextWizard "Hoping the Switch becomes the next PSP in terms of homebrew."

^^^ That sure worked wonders for official PSP support from 1st party and especially, 3rd party dev support, right?

That was the kiss of death for the PSP.

I mean seriously, why bring that kind of heat to the Switch when there are plenty of other cheaper alternatives to play emulators on?

Re: New Nintendo 2DS XL Pikachu Edition is Heading to Europe

GC-161

@thesilverbrick Big budget 3DS 1st party games? Is that's your metric being used to assume they're phasing out that handheld? Because that's a lousy one to use. Considering most of the 1st party offerings by Nintendo on the 3DS were hardly of the "big budget" variety.

In fact, on the 3DS Nintendo released several "risky" games (Code Steam) and inexpensive sequels to fledgling IP's (Chibi Robo). Precisely because they could get away with it on that platform.

Never mind the fact that Nintendo itself has not even hinted at dropping support for the 3DS in 2018. They have said quite the opposite.

And like I said, there is still an E3 and several Nintendo Directs on the way that will cover 3DS games. Possibly revealing new games the same way they did this year.

One of us will eat crow. Stay tuned!

Re: New Nintendo 2DS XL Pikachu Edition is Heading to Europe

GC-161

@thesilverbrick I just don't see support losing steam any time soon despite the 3DS having peaked 2-3 years ago.

US retailers still carry it. It has not reached the same situation as when the Wii U or especially Vita was quickly dropped by them.

3DS has certainly seen better days. But I think it could possibly enjoy one more xmas season.

Especially if Nintendo released a 3DS HD

If that happens, boy... I hope not.

Re: New Nintendo 2DS XL Pikachu Edition is Heading to Europe

GC-161

@thesilverbrick LOL I wasn't implying that YOU had a "vendetta" against the 3DS.

I was just thinking out loud about how most Switch owners wished that Nintendo would pull the plug on the 3DS/2DS and instead focus entirely on the Switch. What you posted reminded me of that sentiment.

But that system is consistently selling better than the PS4 in Japan (plus the last Dragon Quest game sold better on 3DS than on the PS4) and millions still play on it worldwide. So its not an easy proposition for Ninty to just kill the dang thing. Its still a good source of $$$

And I do own a 3DS. Still play on it despite the Switch being vastly superior to it, hardware wise (still lagging waaaay behind in terms of software, tho... IMO)

Anywhoo... the 3DS/2DS still has some life in it. I expect that system to be fully replaced by the Switch as soon as said system gets proper sequels to Animal Crossing, Pokemon and any portable game that made owning a 3DS worth playing on the low res screens.

Re: New Nintendo 2DS XL Pikachu Edition is Heading to Europe

GC-161

@thesilverbrick Yeah... every Switch owner sure wishes that narrative was true.

However... it isn't...

3DS/2DS 1st/3rd party games releasing in 2018:

  • Pokemon Crystal (Nintendo)
  • Kirby Battle Royale (Nintendo/Hal Labs)
  • Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology (Atlus)
  • Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey Redux (Atlus)
  • The Alliance Alive (Atlus)
  • Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age (Square-Enix)

Plus whatever is announced in the next Nintendo Direct and E3 in 2018.

I think by 2019 the 3DS/2DS will be retired, tho.... maaaaaaybe.

Re: Review: Bloody Zombies (Switch eShop)

GC-161

Sounds like it has similar issues that Code of Princess (a beat'em up rpg) had on the 3DS.

Said game looked fairly pretty but the combat was sluggish and awkward.

Still enjoyed Code of Princess (the writing was witty and fun, so that helped). So I'll check some gameplay videos and see if it is something worth buying even with its flaws.

Re: Review: Top Hunter: Roddy & Cathy (Switch eShop / Neo Geo)

GC-161

I remember reading about this game in magazines. Being a huge fan of beat'em up type games, I had this on my radar for ages.

Then I finally played it and was seriously underwhelmed by the gameplay. It didn't click with me at all despite me wanting to like it.

I wonder if I should give it another chance... I only played a few levels and lost interest. Maybe it gets better?

Re: Review: Resident Evil Revelations Collection (Switch)

GC-161

The review implies that you can skip Revelations 1 mainly because REV2 is more "modern" (twitch gamer friendly). Do NOT follow that advice!

RAID MODE is a vastly superior experience in Revelations 1. By a country mile.

Raid mode in RE2 feels serviceable in comparison. And the stages are a lot smaller. There isn't a single stage as huge as Ghost Ship from REV1 for instance. Where you can wonder through the whole ship.

And once you beat these games, Raid Mode is where all the replay value is at with them. So again, if you want to keep playing these games, do not skip REV1.

Re: Details Emerge on Mega Man 11 Difficulty Options, a Weapon Wheel and More

GC-161

@ricklongo I disagree completely.

To claim Castlevania games and Ninja Gaiden games were only difficult because of how "cheap" they were is a ridiculous argument.

And they also had a learning curve thus why many, me included, beat those games AGAIN AND AGAIN. Not just one lucky time. There was no such thing as luck with those games. You had to GIT GUD or GTFO.

So nah, son. Get outta here with that argument. Those games were more difficult than any Mega Man game. I beat the first 3 when I was 8 ffs.

Re: Mega Man 11 Confirmed For Switch In 2018

GC-161

@Agramonte Nah, Switch is currently #1 in sales in the US too.

From the same source you posted:

https://www.cnbc.com/2017/11/21/nintendo-switch-yoga-pants-small-brands-set-to-win-holidays.html

And from GameStop. The biggest retailer in the US:

https://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/310187/GameStops_earnings_rise_thanks_to_demand_for_new_games_and_Nintendos_Switch.php

Expect to see more AAA support on Switch, mah boi.

But just look, don't touch. 😉

Re: Mega Man 11 Confirmed For Switch In 2018

GC-161

@JJ286 Maybe they can do something with the character. But they'll need to get rid of that Inafune baggage that will haunt him for eternity.

@Agramonte Again, that's just you.

You can't play on handhelds. That's a fact that applies to just you.

Don't assume that's how it is to the millions who enjoy handheld gaming just as much as home console gaming. Like in Japan for instance.

Re: Mega Man 11 Confirmed For Switch In 2018

GC-161

@Agramonte Let's not make lousy half-baked comparisons of things that do not exist and instead focus on something tangible and real.

FACT: The Switch lets you play at home and to CONTINUE playing the same game on the go.

So instead of having no choice but to spend days cooking up inside a basement playing a long arse game like Skyrim, you can do that & also take an arrow to the knee on the go. Enjoying some fresh air (and a nice drink & snack)

Untitled

So yeah... that's a big F-no to the idea of AAA skiping Switch. Maybe that only works for you, tho.

Re: WWE 2K18 Finally Arrives on Switch 'Starting December 6th'

GC-161

@Devlind How long have you been a Nintendo fan?

You should know by now that Nintendo are pros and fitting games of any size into tiny carts.

While 3rd party companies are used to Sony and MS consoles where they can release large sized games that require 50/80GB patches.

Re: Mutant Mudds Collection is Out Soon With a Nice 'Early Birds' Discount

GC-161

@Drac_Mazoku Most didn't bought Chicken Wiggle on the 3DS for three big reasons:

1. The name. Sounds like shovelware.

2. The developer's name was not visible on the eShop's image/banner advertising the game. So many had no idea that the game had been made by a competent developer. It would've helped for sure.

3. The 3DS is on its way out. Its all about the Switch.

Re: Video: Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp's Delays Reportedly Caused By Development Challenges

GC-161

So who were Liam's sources? Everyone keeps talking about this rumor but no one wants to include credible sources.

Either way, AC for mobiles was never going to be a real Animal Crossing experience. That would demolish the whole point of buying a Nintendo system to play Animal Crossing.

So I dunno why some expected AC mobile to be a full AC experience. As if we didn't already had an idea of what Nintendo wants on mobiles with their previous efforts.
